You can also try the Crystal House in Al Hana centre (near Satwa roundabout. Tel. 04-3989380). They've got a good selection of Swarovksi crystal beads and also regular glass/plastic beads plus all findings and threads, wires, etc.

You'll get fresh coconut water in most of the small groceries and cafes in Karama, Bur Dubai, Satwa, etc.... it's usually Dhs. 4 per coconut. And I agree with the others, avoid the bottled ones and go for the fresh.

queenbee, I suggest you do the whole celiac blood profile.... because you can have a negative result in one test and positive in the others. Also, there are many cases of "false negatives" with celiac blood tests. There are many people who have had negative blood tests and also nothing showing up in the biopsy - but when they do eliminate gluten from their diet, they experience major improvements. Again, I'm not saying you are gluten intolerant or have celiac disease.... just think you should do the whole bloodwork.

queenbee, have you been tested for celiac disease? It's one of the possible reasosns for leaky gut syndrome. I know you've been through all possible tests, but just checking.... "Just IBS" - this is something that loads of celiac disease patients have heard for years before being diagnosed. I'm not saying you have it, but no harm getting the celiac blood test (total of 5 tests) done - if you have not been tested already. I was listening to Dubai Eye couple of weeks back and there was a "functional medicine practitioner" who was talking on all things nutrition, exercise, etc. He mentioned how most of health issues can be related to your gut. So the first thing he does is check on the nutrition aspect of the patient. Of course, he isn't a doctor, but if you're looking for a more holistic approach... I don't know anyone who has been treated by him, in fact, that was the first time I heard of functional medicine. It's just that he seemed to know what he was talking about. Hope you get the right advice and diagnosis.

Just want to add that you can get diabetes at any age.... Like pinks said, first stop should be your GP. If everything is fine, then you may want to go to a nutritionist.

Thanks ladies!! amandashaks, Giordano used to be a favourite, but I haven't been there for quite some time as most of their tops are usually the same. Will have a look there and in H&M, new look. captainjacky, I had a look in BHS last week and liked some of their stuff, but most of the necklines were a bit too deep for me. Princess_I, I've never heard of Reiss, Hobbs..... will check them out. I just hope they're not too expensive! Any other shops I can check out?

I'm looking for t-shirts and casual tops (not plain, but with some design) - preferably with short sleeves. Most of the stuff in shops here are either sleeveless or with plunging necklines! Also don't want to buy anything that will shrink or stretch after the first wash. I've checked the usual Mango, Zara, Promod, etc.... and can't seem to find anything. Maybe I'm too picky! Would love to get your suggestions. Thanks!!

nazia23, I assume you have an underactive thyroid? If yes, you are probably on medication. Like Chocs01 said, get the thyroid function test done. Ideally, you should be getting this test done every 3 months (or every 6 months if your levels are stable). The symptoms you've described could be because of changes in your TSH, T3 or T4 levels. If that's the case, then you may need a change of dose. Or it could be something else. It's best you get the test done and consult with your GP.

You can get the non-stick pans for making dosas in Lulu. I can't remember if they also have the Idli stand (the one in which you pour the batter and then place it in a pressure cooker) - I've seen these in Khiara store though. Khiara store is on Al fahidi street in Bur Dubai. Their website: http://www.khiarastores.com/products.htm Regarding teaching Indian cooking, I don't know.... you may get more replies if you put up another thread asking for Indian cooking classes.

I have always loved the look of Salwar Kameez (how do you say it in plural?). And I've always wondered...could a western woman wear one without offending the people for whom it is a traditional dress? I mean, outside the boundaries of an Indian celebration like a wedding. For example, an evening out to dinner with friends? Sorry, hope the question hasn't offended anyone, I've just never known anyone I could ask, and this thread seemed the ideal opportunity... Sure, you can wear one :) No one would be offended.

For material, check out Regal, Rivoli and Ratti (all in Bur Dubai). I think Regal (or Rivoli) is on sale now. Also, have a look at some of stores behind the main street (in the [i'>[/i'> gulleys[i'>[/i'> - prices are usually a lot less there compared to the main road shops. Can't help with tailors - I've tried a few and they're all the same - always need multiple alterations! For ready made dresses, check out Princess, Tia, and there are quite a few new stores in Bur Dubai.

Irooni, just wanted to add that if you are going to get the celiac profile / gluten intolerance testing done, make sure you're still eating gluten regularly.... or else, you'll get a false negative. If you do a search on the forum here for gluten/celiac, you'll find many threads with loads of suggestions. And we're slowly finding more gluten free options around the supermarkets and restaurants here. If you're non-vegetarian, it's quite easy to manage... Have a look at the www.celiac.com site and look for the list of safe and unsafe ingredients - take a print out and whenever you decide to buy anything processed, look at the ingredients. Good luck and check the gluten free - UAE facebook page. I believe they even organised a gluten free meet recently and will have more such events.

Many moons back we got addicted to some Pakistani serials. Cant remember the name but it was about a young doctor called Zoya or something. I think she went on to marry the lead singer of some Pakistani rock band. But these serials can get a bit heavy and depressing. Which ones in particular are you recommending, whats the title of the serial? Ooooh, I think I know that one... [i'>Dhoop Kinarey[/i'>? Or was Zoya one of the protagonists in [i'>Tanhayiyaan[/i'>, with a really good looking guy called Zain? We were really young at the time... but my late-teen-hormone-hit sister was a huge fan. I think there was another hilarious one called [i'>Sona Chandi[/i'>? Oh yes, loved Dhoop kinarey. Marina Khan is the actress that played the role of Zoya in it. She was also in Tanhaiyaan - another great serial. Couple of other good Pakistani serials were Ankahee and Uroosa.

all the Indian series are awful..... I also only watch Saas Bina sasural - it's the only one that makes me laugh. I keep track of Balika vadhu (don't know why) - which is going from bad to worse! The X factor on Sony TV is quite disappointing - barring a couple of contestants, they're all pretty ordinary. But I like Sonu Nigam and Shreya, so will be watching it. And I just hate the ads we get to watch here - they're the same ones on all the channels. Prefer watching the news channels to see the Indian ads - so much more creative! Like Izzy said, I'll be watching the WI vs IND test series and maybe Wimbledon (still have to check if I'm getting it or not).

Have you tried Lulu? They have quite a few Indian / Pakistani suits and I'm quite sure you may get something for your daughter. Another option is Karama centre - located behind the old Lulu supermarket in Karama. Again, they're all Indian shops, but I'd think Indian and Pakistani suits would be quite similar.

It worked for me! What I did was: put Suresh Raina is god onto my google homepage search box, THEN clicked on 'More' and then Google 'translate' and then picked English to Serbian. Then I dragged my mouse over the Serbian translation, then chose Serbian to English and immediately, Sachin Tendulkar is God appeared on the right-hand side of the screen. Fiddly but fun. And it still worked when I did it [again'> just now. :) Thanks WM! I'm still not getting the "Sachin is God" translation. I'm obviously technologically challenged!

rumnraisin, is the demo of the water filter the one where they ask you for a glass of water and place couple of electrodes in the glass and soon you'll see black residue? And do they call their brand Eureka forbbes and is the price over 3000 dhs.? If yes, please don't buy this one. There was even an article in the local newspapers about how these companies scare potential customers using this test, which essentially is electrolysis. Here's the article: http://www.khaleejtimes.com/DisplayArticle09.asp?xfile=data/theuae/2010/September/theuae_September386.xml&section=theuae Check this earlier thread: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=90721 I've bought the Aqua guard water filter from Better Life for approximately Dhs. 850 and it's good.

terrible_twos: Chanel recently introduced a dark circle corrector which I've been using for over three months now and do think it works. I've been using it every night and it has made a difference for sure. Also it has a rollerball and you simply draw three circles around your eye, which prevents excess usage of the product. Just be careful of the bottle though - its made of ceramic and my first bottle broke by simply falling into the sink. Its cost around 250. Thanks NadiaA. Not sure I want to spend Dhs. 250, but will keep this in mind if nothing else works out!

FloridaGirl, in my experience, 75% of the people do not haggle - they know it's all handmade and understand the time and effort the artisans put into making everything. The remaining 25% - well it's up to you. Earlier, I'd never sell at a discount. But over the past 2 years, there has been a decline in sales (result of the economy maybe) and I usually give up to 10% discount, if somebody insists. Or if something's been unsold for a long time and a person wants a discount on that, then again I may relent! There's no rule as such... sorry if I've just confused you more! There have been days when I haven't recovered the 200 dhs. table cost and there have been days when I've made a profit... so it evens out in the end. I'm yet to meet someone at the ARTE soukh who has done extremely well each month. Since you plan on sharing a table, I suggest you try it out. The June markets are usually good since people look to buy gifts to take back home during the summer holidays.

There's a restaurant in Oasis called Balance cafe where they have some gluten free options. There are a few other places as well.... make sure you call the chef couple of hours before going to find out more. Naked Pizza may have some gluten free pizzas http://www.nakedpizza.biz/locations/dubai-marina1 Again, call them for more information. And of course, the organic supermarket at Dubai mall has loads of gluten free flours, pasta, pizza (frozen) and also ice cream!
