I echo what Missy Moo said. Thank goodness we are renters and not owners. We are leaving this summer as soon as our lease is up. The neighbourhood is a big dusty building site, all the palm trees are dead, there are very few amenities and parks, there are creepy men harassing women out walking, and the build quality is appalling even by Dubai standards. If I were looking to buy, I'd be keeping my money as far away from JVC as possible

Ours never tried to kick us out, but he tried to raise the rent well above RERA guidelines with 6 weeks' notice. We fought it and he backed down, but then he made it so difficult to live there that we gave up and left after the second year. When we first moved in the place was so unbelievably filthy that we had to get a team of cleaners and pest control in for an entire day before it was liveable. The AC broke every 5 minutes, and it would often take 2-3 weeks before we could even get the agent to call us back to schedule maintenance. Then he tried to get us to pay for the maintenance, even though it was broken long before we moved in. While we were there, we spend AED 5,000 on making the garden really nice (was a wasteland full of rubbish when we moved in) and made sure every maintenance issue was taken care of, and before we left we had a proper move-out clean done. We then had to spend the next 3 weeks fighting to get our deposit back, and never did manage to get all of it. I do feel bad for whomever is in there now, but I'm glad to be done with that nonsense!

We used to live in Al Reem 2. We loved our place, but we left because our LL was unbearable to deal with and continuously tried to scam us for more rent. I know he also owned the villa next door, so chances are he owns a few. Who knows, might be the same LL.

I used to have the same issue. I had horrible cravings and overate like crazy. Due to some health issues, I started reading a lot about nutrition and made some huge adjustments in my diet. I lost a lot of weight and the cravings stopped. The reason a lot of people have cravings is because their body is missing nutrients. You can eat and eat and eat all you want, but unless you're consuming the nutrients that your body needs, you will continue to crave until you fill that nutrient deficit. If you focus on eating healthy, nutrient-dense foods then your body will send a message to your brain that it's got what it needs, and your hunger and cravings will subside. For decades now, "experts" have been recommending a high-carb, low-fat diet. THIS IS NOT HEALTHY! A high-carb diet fills you with empty calories, which pack on the weight and make cravings worse. You need dietary fat to aid digestion and keep your organs healthy, and it will make you feel full! You also need to ensure you are eating plenty of veggies and some fruits so that you're getting all your vital nutrients and plenty of fibre. And as Beebers pointed out, drink more water! Suggested meal plan: Breakfast: Stay away from the oats and cereal and stick to the eggs. If you have time, make an omelette with veggies and have some fruit on the side. Try to get used to black coffee. Lunch: Big salad with chopped up veggies and/or fruits and some protein (chicken, nuts, seeds, etc.) Dinner: Meat/fish and veg. I like to make a big stir-fry with a bunch of chopped up veggies and some chicken, and I season it with lots of garlic and some sesame oil or hot sauce or something. Snacks: stay away from the trail bars. Those are full of sugar and other junk. Have fresh fruit or a handful of nuts. That's a typical day for me, and I never struggle with cravings anymore. I've maintained a very healthy weight for years, and I have more energy and better sleep. One more thing: stay away from processed food! It's designed to make you want more and more, and it's full of horrible chemicals!

An update for those who are interested. Ive lost 7.9kgs as of this morning, the last 7 days on juices made at home from raw veg and some raw fruit. Im following a 28 day nutritionally balanced programme. My Dr is impressed and is now reading up, my BP has reduced, my heart rate also, clothes are getting looser, and the daily weekly photos show a vast improvement to my skin, face shape and colour of my eyes - Ive been told I look 10 years younger. FYI, Im not on any processed juices or detox tablets or other fad diets, this is just raw plant based food into juices. I havent been hungry, drank lots of water and taking some walking or gym exercise 3-4 times in a week. Getting lots of fresh air and sunshine walking home during the week to the metro and at weekends. Good luck to those on a new year regime - Im telling myself its not a new year resolution its a new way of life. Its good to be organised to be successful :) I do hope you're listening to those who have told you how unhealthy this is. It's great that you're seeing results, but there are ways to see results without damaging your health. Your body needs protein and fats in order to function. You are actually damaging your organs by eliminating protein and fat from your diet. If you add some meat, fish, eggs and good healthy oils to your diet you will still lose weight, and you will not be putting your health at risk. What you are doing now is unsustainable and dangerous.

Some schools do 2 year contracts, some do 3. Both are common. If she only wants a 2 year contract she may be able to negotiate for it. Otherwise, the repercussions will depend on the school.

Good for you for getting out. That takes a lot of courage. As for the guilt, I suggest you read your post and pretend it was written by someone else. Does this abuser sound like someone worthy of your guilt? As others have said, the best thing for you to do is to cut off all contact with him and his family. Hopefully he will find a way to fix his issues before he thinks about getting into another relationship.

Seeing as you are on his sponsorship, he has to renew his visa, then do yours. Thanks FD, that's what I thought. Probably easier to go on the company's visa then.

Hmmm I feel this won't go down well, but I will say it anyway. You husband is the one out working his bo**ocks off to keep you happy and in the style that you may have become accustomed to. While you are not working, I feel you should not be out at the beauty salon every week, or out lunching twice a week or having coffee mornings twice a week. There is no need for a trip to the hair dressers every week. Unless you are desperately trying to fit in to the Jumeirah Jane lifestyle. Yes marriage is a partnership but at the moment you are not contributing to that partnership. I would not have felt comfortable asking my husband to support me when I first came here. He worked hard for his money, as do I, so it just wouldn't have been an issue. I'm not saying 1000aed is enough, however maybe look at what you are spending it on and what and why you need more money. Sorry if this offends anyone. Bouncy, that is pretty unfair. The OP clearly stated that they have just moved here and she is still looking for work. She left a career back home to follow him here, so of course it is reasonable to expect him to support her for the time being. She did not mention going to the salon every week, only that the budget given must cover all personal expenses. I am very low maintenance and I would struggle on that budget. Her husband is being a tightwad. End of.

When people/adverts etc talk about items being 'on sale' - (instead of 'in the sale') - of course these items are on sale - you couldn't buy them otherwise. I had never heard "in the sale" before moving here, and I'm a native English speaker. Where I'm from, "on sale" means reduced and "for sale" means you can buy it. My personal peeve is "to know more..."

Thanks for the replies! I'm not sure I would want to leave my child with a maid without any qualifications, doesn't seem ideal to me but I guess it's cheap... Regarding where to live: my husband will be working in Saudi Arabia in the week but I would hopefully be working in Media city so somewhere that's commutable there? We have a budget of 150.000 - 180.000 AED and would like somewhere with a pool and maybe a garden. Arabian ranches look ok but I hear traffic is really bad? Thanks! What type of accommodation are you looking for? Apartment? Villa? Number of bedrooms? Arabian Ranches would be about a 25 to 35 minute commute depending on exact location and traffic. You could get a 2-bed villa within your budget.

1. There is a huge demand for part-time roles and not much supply, so it will be difficult to find one. Getting a job here is 90% about who you know, so once you've been here a while it will become easier. 2. Sorry, can't answer this one. 3. Not usually, but totally depends on the employer. A lot of working ladies hire a live-in nanny if their working hours aren't conducive to nursery drop-off and pick-up. 4. There are too many to list. You'll want to wait until you know where your husband will be working before you decide which area to live in.

Admittedly, it is easier to gain weight here than elsewhere - the immediate availability of pretty much anything, the relentless advertising of junk food, the weather, etc. - but it all comes down to choices. There is nothing in the air here that inflates our fat cells beyond our control. If you make healthy food choices, say no to the garbage that is everywhere, exercise a few times a week and drink plenty of water you will not gain weight. Simple as that. I have actually lost weight during my 2 years here... *ducks for cover*

Too many people focus on losing weight rather than living well and eating for optimal health. OP, I highly suggest you read "It Starts With Food." It is an excellent book which explains the science and psychology of food. The main takeaway is that a healthy lifestyle (which will naturally lead to weight loss if you are overweight) does not have to be a struggle of cravings, guilt, deprivation, etc. If you eliminate foods which create an unhealthy psychological response, you will eventually (usually within 2-4 weeks) stop craving them and start craving foods which contribute to good health. You won't have to count calories, as your body and brain will begin to communicate more effectively and you won't feel compelled to overeat. I have been following this lifestyle for a few years, and it works. I am healthier than I have ever been, I'm lean and strong, and I still enjoy food very much. I don't eat junk, and I don't miss it. In fact, I look forward to eating vegetables! Good luck whatever you choose to do.

Two things have worked very well for me: 1. Curb the carbs. They will make you hungrier and your cravings worse. 2. Acupuncture. I did this years ago to deal with my overeating and one session cured me.

I'm not very convinced but as my DH prepares for his yearly one next month, he is insisting my DS and I also go for it. To be fair, since he took his for the first time last year, he's not fallen sick, whereas before that he used to have this severe throat infection at least twice a year, where he used to lose his voice for a couple of days and had to [b'>go through an antibiotic course to get better[/b'>. We are as it is a healthy family with little or no sick days, unfortunately, my DS is currently down with a soar throat and fever which has kind of brought this discussion to fore. I would like to hear from you lovely ladies your views and experiences, before I make a decision on this. Slight tangent, but I feel the need to point out that viruses and bacterial infections are entirely different things. Vaccines are used to prevent viruses (such as the flu) whereas antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. Vaccines [i'>cannot[/i'> prevent bacterial infections and antibiotics [i'>cannot[/i'> treat viruses. I am amazed by how many doctors here are so quick to prescribe antibiotics for every little sniffle and sore throat, especially when there is no evidence of a bacterial infection. Antibiotics are harmful and should only be taken when there is evidence of a bacterial infection that won't go away on its own.

I've been to both twice and much prefer Hawaii. As Northern Lights pointed out, Cancun is soulless. There are also safety issues in Mexico, not to mention you have to be so careful about the water. I stayed at 5 star resorts both times I went and was very careful, and I still managed to get sick both times. Hawaii, on the other hand, is clean and safe and there is lots to do. If you go, make sure to venture outside of Honolulu as it is very "American" and touristy. Maui is beautiful, the big Island is awesome (particularly Kona - I wasn't so fond of Hilo) and if you're looking for a quiet, non-touristy getaway then Kauai is perfect. Good luck!

rera calculator reads .. Rent is lower by 8% of the average rent for the type of unit you have chosen . According to the law governing change, your rating category is 10% So you are not entitled to any increase of rent. Then regardless of the 90 day notice period, you write back and simply state that according to the RERA rent calculator and the LAW, you are not entitled to any increase and therefore your contract shall be renewed under the current terms and conditions and at the current rate - end of story. If he has a problem with that, then HE must go to the rent committee. a property management company !!!! i hate hate dealing with them ...its a fight every single day !! they insists that they have a case as my neighbours are paying a lot higher than me , they moved in a few months after !! Tough T###y just because your neighbours pay more isn't your fault I imagine most people in apartments and villas pay different prices Let them open a case, the RC is very firm on this and the rent calculator is law. If this wasn't the case then why do they have this in place I would stand firm and only respond to them with the law which is on your side thanks ladies ... i am at my wits end !! as it is i have been given eviction notice to move out by 12th march 2015 as the building is being sold !! When did you receive the notice? They legally have to give you a year, so unless you received the notice in March they are breaking the law and you can fight it.

My list is a mile long, but I'll stick to one thing for the sake of brevity: If I have to send my hubby to the grocery store, which is rare, I have to do the following: -Hand write a list and place it in his wallet -Text him the same list -Email him the same list -Carefully read the list to him verbally at least 3 times prior to his departure and make him repeat it back -Call him while he's at the store and go over the list again, begging to him check it before he goes to the cash register It's a miracle if he comes home with more than 50% of what's on the list, even if there are only 4 or 5 things on it. But I love him.

Oh thanks :)...could you send the pictures to me at [email protected] and i will send it on. Is there any chance that your husband could take him to a vet for a chip check? what part of AR are you in? we have lots of people there who are looking for someone who lost Jack :)....he could of course been taken from somewhere else in dubai and dumped there...but with his name and phone number attached I doubt it would be his owners .....and he probably has a chip :) Thanks Plum2...if you could send me the poster if possible? take a pic with your iPad then forward to me? Unfortunately hubby and I have insane work commitments for the next few days, but we will see if a friend can take him to the vet. In the meantime I will email you a photo. Hopefully he's the same Jack that people are looking for! Oh and we're in Al Reem 2.

Sorry ladies, was out all day yesterday and only got back to the computer now. He's an older black cat and very friendly. He seems quite affectionate, but unfortunately I can't pet him due to my allergies. Hubby is feeding him right now and will take a photo. I've got to leave in a few minutes but will try to post the photo before I go. I did text the phone number yesterday, and nobody has replied :(

I would be very surprised if any schools offer this. KHDA does not allow schools to sponsor TA's which means they are all on local contracts...meaning a (low) salary and possibly health insurance (self only) and nothing else. Any idea where I might find the rules on KHDA not allowing sponsoring of TAs? I've looked on the KHDA website but can't find anything. Thanks It's not on their website. I worked in a school (until recently) and we were told we weren't allowed to sponsor TA's. I know that some schools do, but not all schools follow the rules.

A hungry, dirty black cat with minor injuries made his way into our back garden in Al Reem. He's got a name tag with a phone number, but the owner isn't answering. If anyone knows who he is please tell the owner to check their phone as I'm allergic and can't bring him inside. I've fed him but that's all I can do.

The parking is this area is so inadequate it's absurd. I can't count the number of times I've attempted to do my shopping after work only to give up after 45 minutes of circling and go home and order a takeaway. This is why Spinneys have an undercover car park…. The undercover parking is hot, smelly, cramped, and more often than not, hard to find a space in as well. Exactly. I usually can't get anywhere near the undercover car park after work. Hopeless.

My favourite argument in the whole BF debate is "but it's perfectly natural." Er...so are several other bodily functions, but we have private rooms for those. Not that I'm advocating for private rooms for BFing - as long as you're discreet it's fine. I just think it's a strange argument.

You may need to be a bit more specific. Both are huge countries geographically with entirely different cultures, standards of living, industries, etc., depending on which part of the country you're in. What line of work are you in? Do you both plan to work? Do you have children? What do you value? What are your hobbies? What type of weather do you prefer? Etc...
