Sorry gardengirl. Yes 60dhs is 10quid and not 5. What I was trying to say was that 60dhs is split between 2 teachers, so 30dhs (a fiver) for each gift. With 23 mums contributing thats 690dhs for each gift.

Quite a few of the money exchanges sell the bonds like Ansari. Also you don't have to be a resident to buy or win. As for not winning anything, I have had 20,000dhs of bonds for 18 months and have only won twice and 100 each time, both times during the past 6 weeks. Your turn will come ;)

Hi, I just wanted to add that yes, we are buying our class teacher and t/a a Pandora bracelet each. BUT, a silver bracelet costs 350dhs and the charms vary between 100 and 200dhs. Each of us are contributing 60dhs so 30 for each gift and with 23 kids thats 690dhs to spend on each of them. Therefore we are able to buy a bracelet and a couple of charms to start it off. I know it sounds like an extravagant gift but all the mums are very happy. 60dhs buys 2 peoples gifts without the choosing/shopping hassles. That's only 5 UKpounds each!! Some of us have 2 or 3 kids all with teachers to buy for, so doing these collections makes life easy for us mums and the teachers get something special that they wouldn't necessarily buy themselves. I know of one teacher last Xmas who received 14 baskets of M&S toiletries and 8 boxes of chocolates. Yes very nice gifts, but all cost alot more than 30dhs and she'll never use all the toiletries. For our class its a win win situation all round. edited by TJC on 05/06/2011

I think it's only muslim boys under 11 go to the father. 11 year old boys and older have the choice then. Daughters always stay with their mother.

You and your fiance must keep all your sms' from him. Do not reply to any of them. Make sure that any you have replied to, do not contain any "bad" language. If I were you and your fiance, both of you go to your repsective embassies and report what's been happening. They will advise and possibly put you in touch with a lawyer. He sounds unhinged and I certainly wouldn't want my kids anywhere near him while he's like this. You have nothing to fear going to the police if you're not living together. Let them see all the text messages. Death threats have to be taken seriously especially when kids are involved. We read every day about honour killings especially in India and your ex probably can't stand the thought of another man being a father figure to his children. The police can certainly warn him off. But if as I said earlier you have replied using foul language, they can prosecute you for that. All the very best for a good outcome and a wonderful new life.

You should contact KHDA yourselves. Its 5% as per their ruling of Feb 2009. The only exceptions are nursery schools. Here is one of KHDA's online statements......." As per Article 52.1 of the Private Education bylaw from the Ministry of Education this is illegal and not permissible. The article clearly states that schools can only collect school fees at the beginning of each semester or month and cannot force the parents to pay any fees in advance. However schools seem to be invoicing the parents ahead of the new calendar year to address the issue they face of students switching schools and not returning after the summer break. As a result schools are unable to offer these vacant seats to other children on the waiting list as they have no confirmation from the children leaving. To resolve this issue Article 52.2 allows the school to take a small deposit or registration fee. This deposit or registration fee should not be more than five per cent of the total fees with a maximum of AED500 per child. This means that a school can charge either five per cent of the school fees or AED500 – whichever is lower. This deposit is then subtracted from the school fees if the child returns, but is not refunded if the student does not join the school. Some schools have also asked parents to pay a refundable cautionary deposit to cover any losses or damages incurred by the student. Article 52.7 states that no school can collect a financial guarantee or financial deposit from parents. Mohammed Darwish, Chief of Licensing and Customer Relations for KHDA, said: “Our laws are here to protect both parents and school owners and we expect everyone to respect and abide by them. We ask erring schools to set right the situation and inform the parents accordingly so that we can update their files at KHDA.”. edited by TJC on 04/05/2011

I know it's 2 hrs since your post, but just want to add The Rashid Hospital in Oud Metha A&E dept are first class. I've been to City Hospital...excellent, the American...excellent but I needed serious help last October and was taken to the Rashid. The care and treatment were second to none! Was there all day, xray, ct scan, pain relief, blood tests and when they transferred me by ambulance to Dubai Hospital for surgery, my husband went to pay the Rashid and they said no, no charge. We were flabbergasted. Hope your little cherub's ok x

You will all enjoy Al Ain zoo. They have quite a few different baby animals at the moment too. That in itself shows that the animals are happy and well cared for, it has a very successful breeding programme. Dubai on the otherhand deserves to be in the Guinness book of records for one of the worst zoos in the world. I really can't believe it's still open. It would be kinder to put the poor animals out of their misery. So sad.

The mosque will be louder than the planes. Now the Russian cargo planes have moved to Jebel Ali, we really don't find the planes a problem anymore. All the best for your move. You'll love Mirdif. We do, been here 10 years now.

I use Photobox.co.uk and upload relevant photos. Their cards are gorgeous, plus photo magnets, coasters, calendars etc etc. Excellent quality. Also Asda have great cards that you personalise and can also upload photos on some of them. Last night the kids and I created 2 A5 cards on photobox for Mother's Day, both with photos on, personalised text, total 6.99 inc postage. (42dhs)
