tkoshy, different nationalities have certain ways of doing things, and that is fact. Agree that different nationalities have different ways of doing things, but when it comes to a business in this region, how the said Indian national runs his company is pretty much on par with other businesses run by other nationals.

Or maybe the nationality does have some bearing.....it all depends. On what? on the way the owner does business. So, again, how does his nationality have a bearing?

Indian owners make the fiscal decsions behind the scenes. edited by Little Poppet on 01/02/2011 I know i'm going to be jumped on, but out of sheer curiosity, how does the owners nationality have any relevance to the matter? Are his business decisions. in your opinion, any different from any other businesses run by other nationals who run a business for profit?

tkoshy what did you like about it? My liking the movie has to a lot with the fact that I generally watch thrillers/scifi/adventure/comedy. Anything with sad/ ambiguous endings really gets me down. And a lot of movies released in the last 3 months of the year tend to be gritty dramas with said endings. So the Black Swan was more than a pleasant surprise. No long pauses, no slow dialogue delivery, no ambiguous ending. The story and plot move along fast, and while it is a drama, it is also a thriller. Even horrorish ( made up that word, sorry) at times! The story is simple but very well scripted and well visualised. The movie revolves around just 4 people and what a cast they make. It's a Natalie Portman movie throughout but I like Mila Kunis's expressive eyes and natural grace, Vincent Cassels portrayal of the slightly sleazy perfectionist and Barbara Hershey's role as a domineering, repressed , unsuccessful mother. I had no expectations for the movie and it surprised me.That is a sign of a good movie for me.

Orchids get their nutrients and water from the air, so they need to be hung in baskets/ kept off the ground, that allow their roots to go through. Other than that a humid environment and some occasional fertilizer is all that they need in terms of care. My mum uses coconut husk and red brick pieces to keep moisture in. She also says there needs to be temperature differences for orchids to flower? Not sure about that. Best of luck

As of 25th December 2010, Qatar has new visa rules for GCC residents. Previously, male GCC residents, that are not citizens of the 33 countries that could get visas on arrival, could get visas on arrival provided they had a job title that said manager or above. Female residents had to apply beforehand or had to be accompanying husband to get visa on arrival. As of the 25th of last month, this has changed. If you are not a citizen of the aforementioned 33 countries, then you have to apply for a visa beforehand. If your residency says development manger in any form, expect reluctance/refusal at the visa counters. My husband, an Indian citizen, was boarding an Emirates flight to Doha when he was told he could no longer fly without getting a visa beforehand. He and about 30 other people were turned away at the boarding gates a week back. Indians and other Arab nationals now have to apply and procure visas prior to travel. My first horror movies were Nightmare on Elm Street and Jaws. Both scared me so much that I was well nto my twenties before I saw a horror movie again. Wolf's Creek is another movie that was really, really scary ( Australia became the last place on earth I wanted to visit).

I think the place you're looking for is the MBK Mall ( National Stadium BTS stop). There are a lot of pirated game shops, however, quality is not guaranteed. http://www.thebangkokshoppingguide.com/MBK_mahboonkrong_bangkok MBK has a lot of general shopping and less of the pirated software kind, a better option is Pantip Plaza which is an IT mall ( Ratchathewi BTS station, then taxi or walking). Again quality is not guaranteed. http://thebangkokshoppingguide.com/Pantip_plaza_bangkok HTH

thats a lot of liqueur in a cake....normally you would just add a couple of tablespoons, do you not have any coffee?you would be better to mix up instant I think..... That much alcohol could do something weird in the baking process.... edited by Mrs Laughan on 25/01/2011 Just what I was thinking! The original recipe just calls for brewed coffee. Aargh! Will tell DH to drink the liqueur and leave me in peace!

Thanks Freckles .It's a chocolate cake, so guessing the coffee is supposed to help the chocolate flavor? DH ( mistake letting him into the kitchen) insists on alcohol in his cake, even though he knows there's not going to be any left after baking!!

I had my driving lessons from Emirates Driving School. Can recommend them, though it all depends on the instructor you get. Since you already know how to drive, it should be fine. Refresher classes cost 100 dhs/hour and have a minimum of 8 classes. If you don't like your instructor, you can always request a change. Best of luck.

t my scalp is starting to get very itchy, flakes when i unfortunately itch and gets oily after 3 days of washing..b4 it would not get oily... I have seen threads on shampoos but not similar case to mine.. can someone recommend me a good, natural shampoo and conditioner (not 2 in one) (or a at least a good brand shampoo with less chemicals) [b'>for oilier scalp, dry ends, and itchy flaky, sensitive, scalp..[/b'>.my scalp might jus be sensitive as i have noticed it looks slightly red.. I dont mind paying a lot of money but i dont want anything to damage my hair so nothing high in chemicals or medicinal.. . I have scalp and hair that sounds exactly like you're describing. It was discussed in an earlier thread. Sorry for being lazy but the link's below: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=122125 Hope that helps

So many familiar questions! I have an arranged marriage. My DH was the 4th guy that I saw that my parents chose, we talked for over a month and married soon after. Both DH and I were very surprised that we met they way we did ( we both were very adamant about choosing our own partners and had our fair share of relationships prior to meeting each other). So I would say give it a try. You just have to be sure of the reasons that you want to get married for. Dubai can be an incredibly lonely place for a woman. You're surrounded by married couples and families and just seeing that makes you feel like you are alone, especially when you have problems. Love and passion are not the only things in a marriage. Being able to adjust/compromise on a lot of things, which as an independent working woman you take for granted in your life, is essential. You will have to put up with his family, have to live with another human being in your space, have to factor their opinions/likes in decisions, money issues, issues with s e x, pick up after them, be nurse and mother, etc. It's a lot of work for both parties and other couples will never tell you about them. Best of luck

If you are waiting to get a PS4, then the Xbox is the only other alternative for a serious gamer. Great titles with online support and network, HD capable , onboard storage and with the new Kinect, just better than anything else in the market right now. For family fun, the Wii has better games. HTH

Regarding scams, here are a couple of links http://www.bangkokscams.com/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8154497.stm We fell for the " attraction" closed for the day scam. With due respect, we had arrived when the King's sister had just died and there was a period of mourning going on. .We were surrounded by Thais in black and assumed the info from the "tout" was true. Got into a tuk tuk and got shown around some really pushy shops. Ultimately we got angry and made a scene and the tuk tuk guy took us where we wanted to go free of charge. We had taken the river boat to the Grand Palace and the landing was just a few minutes walk down, we should have checked. We got there and found out, there was indeed mourning going on but only a small part of the complex was blocked off. The rest was open to tourists. So always check and be careful. The first site I've listed lists all the do's and don'ts and all the signs of scams. The second link is an indication that even government officials are not immune to ripping tourists off. HTH

Don't know about the concept mentioned here, but am following a guy who works out for 20 minutes at a time 3 times a week. He's moved on since but maybe the concept below is similar? http://www.248am.com/mark/kuwait/7-weeks-later/ Edited, didn't know h e l l was a bad word!! <em>edited by tkoshy on 12/01/2011</em>

Try the Chao Phraya river boat for tourists - use it to get to Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), and the Old City (Grand palace and Wat Pho ( Reclining Buddha temple)) and several other sights. Near the Grand Palace is the National Museum. The Saphan Taksin metro station is quite close to your hotel, which is where the river boat starts. http://www.tour-bangkok-legacies.com/chao-phraya-river-tourist-boat.html Jim Thompson's house was the best part of our trip. Absolutely beautiful house and soo peaceful. Great shopping there too. http://www.jimthompsonhouse.com/ http://www.tour-bangkok-legacies.com/jim-thompson-house.html Traditional Thai puppet show - Joe Louis Puppet Theater - we went for an evening show and then did dinner and shopping in the Suan Lim night market, that the theater is in the middle of. It was a beautiful show, a great night http://www.thaipuppet.com/core/ If you have shopping, then MBK for cheap shopping, Paragon for more upscale ( Siam Paragon also has an aquarium in the lowest level which is one of the biggest I've seen - they claim to be the biggest in Asia) and Siam Square for the quirky, artsy stuff. Chatuchak is a weekend open air market that is so huge that they have sections for various types of goods. You can, very easily, get lost and can spend a day there. If you don't like hawker food, then the food courts in the malls are your best bet for variety and quality. Nightlife - plenty of British, Irish, Aussie pubs and bars. Lots of clubs and restaurants.Nightlife of the racier variety is in Sukhumvit and Nana. Don't fall prey to scams, of which there are plenty in Bangkok. Please read up before you go, it happens not just in the streets but also in the airport. We fell for one and it ruined a whole day for us. A guide to the sights in the city with respect to the metro stops: http://tinyurl.com/5vvee5s Hope you have a lovely time. <em>edited by tkoshy on 12/01/2011</em>

The Aussie dollar is strong...hovering around 1 for 1 with the US dollar. Makes me wonder why we pay more than double the price of goods in the US. My recent Christmas whine was about Nintendo DS games - in the US, $19.99; same game in Australia $58.75. *stamp foot* (whinge over ;) ) If you don't mind pirated games, you could download games and use them on an NDS/NDSi/NDSi XL, by using a mod chip. There is an recommended online retailer of these slot cards in Australia http://www.ozmodchips.com/dsi-and-dsi-xl-c-47.html Just wanted to let you know of an option.;) Sorry for going offtopic

Is anyone familiar with options to ship things to the US? We have to move in a couple of months and are not taking any furniture or large items, but have art, rugs, books and personal items that are more than excess baggage will allow. The extra amount we are trying to ship would probably fit in about 8 large suitcase. We tried using Air Cargo (Delta) and they told us they are no longer allowed to ship personal items TO the US, they can only carry new items with invoices from one company to another. I'm assuming this would be an across-the-board rule with other airlines air cargo. So.... does anyone know any other options? Do fedex/aramex/ups do this? TIA We had to go through this problem in December, when we were shipping a couple of coffee tables for a friend ( a gift, so wanted cheap freight) to the US. Went to Cargo Village, did the rounds of the airlines and agents, and other than Emirates, nobody ships personal items anymore. Emirates Sky cargo does provide the service, however their rates were very high and they would carry only to the airports they fly into. Local partners would then be responsible for delivery. Emirates SkyCargo (UAE Sales) Dubai Cargo Village Cargo Mega Terminal P.O. Box: 686, Dubai United Arab Emirates Tel.: +971 4 2184218 Fax +971 4 2834266 Email: [email protected] If time is not a problem for you, we went through a sea freight company called CSS Llc. They do consolidated shipping. They were way cheaper than air freight. Our contact was Shatus Satheesan - 050 5599573. A bit bureaucratic but not too bad. We managed to finish paperwork and delivery of goods in 2 days ( we took the tables to them as that saved us about $100 ). It cost us, including documentation and other charges, 936 dhs for 0.5 cbm.
