Hi everyone,
I'm 38 and expecting my first baby in August. I'd love to meet a few others with babes on the way...most of my friends are already moms of toddlers+ or happy child-frees. I've been very career and travel focused in my 20's and 30's, and was a long-time fence-sitter on motherhood, so this is a big leap. I'm excited of course, and grateful...and also freaked out and way behind the curve in terms of pregnancy and baby knowledge. It'd be great to meet a few others in the same boat!
Look forward to hearing from you :)
Hi Pepito,
I had a really tough time starting my working life in Dubai - it took me 8 months to get my first job! So, you're not alone. I agree with the idea of taking something that may not be well paid just to get some local experience on your CV. My first position was at a nasty PR firm that worked us like crazy and paid peanuts. But I stuck it out and kept my CV current on all the online recruitment sites, and after a few months, I was contacted for a position with a great company at a much higher salary.
While I was actively searching, I went to a lot of networking coffees and even joined one of those companies that hire out teams to work at events. You'll meet a lot of people doing this sort of thing, and you may get a break.
I found a good way to get interviews was to regularly "refresh" my CV on all the online job sites (Bayt, Monster, Gulftalent, Nadia-ME, etc.); to methodically check several recruitment company sites daily for possible leads (Charterhouse, Hays, Clarendon Parker, Kershaw Leonard, etc.); and to create tailored cover letters for particularly appealing opportunities. I suggest emphasizing, at the top of your CV, that you're on your husband's sponsorship - as far as I know, not having to sponsor an employee directly saves a company some money. And, if you feel an interview has gone well, I don't think it hurts to create some buzz around yourself by politely but confidently asking when you might hear back regarding their decision, since you have another offer on the table that you need to respond to by X date. Of course, their company is your first choice, but.... :)
Best of luck and don't give up!
Hi everyone, I used to live in Millennium Tower and for the longest time, access to that roundabout was closed. I finally phoned the RTA complaint line and insisted (politely) on being called back by a manager. A very pleasant fellow rang me and I explained how unfair it was that we were being forced to pay Salik in order to exit our building. He promised to look into the matter. Not long afterward, they opened the road. It was probably a complete coincidence but...you never know!
