Any terms mentioned in anywhere other than labor contract, has no meaning in the court of law. However, if the employer has a case of significant loss of business due to your knowledge of their business info which is out of public domain and you joining a clear competitor, they have a option to file a case in labor for ban. If they don't, its their choice but labor won't put ban anymore by default. Assuming your labor cancellation happens without any challenge, your new employer can apply for your labor approval. And can apply for your Employment visa, once your old visa is cancelled. You don;t have to be out of the country. Most banks bind employer to advise bank in the event of cancellation and all EOB to go to specific account only. The account gets inactive and bank chases you for closure. I have heard both cases, where people with loan were either held or traveled without any hassle. so no clarity. Usually only in the event of mutual understanding, transiting from one job to another is uneventful. Mostly it is full of stress. Good luck.

I feel a similarity in what happened in UK and whats going on in US. There is a surge in sentiment to separate people on one ground or the other. Tag as it is convenient to suit your gains. I feel sorry for the increasing divide among societies.

With current rules, anyone can change their job and there is no ban. Only if employer has a serious complaint which is with evidence etc, employer can submit a request in labor department before cancelling. You have got tricky situation. No option is safe in itself. I would let her stay as normal. You can't guard 24x7, if a maid wishes to cheat. Good luck.

Wait till you will hear, France & Germany, right wing people asking for referendum. In my opinion, mortal leaders sometime make there choices for selfish path to power but generations will carry the burden of it, This event will encourage the sentiment to divide instead of unite. We as human race, Divided we fall and united we can face any challenge. We still don't feel the threat to existence of our species. We may not see much but our children will face strong natural limitations. Its just this far.

Hi Woweyes, Sponsoring on your visa is cost effective in fact. However risk are higher if the candidate does not turn out as expected. For any reason, your's or her's, the whole cost paid goes down the drain. No Refund or any respite. However if you go agency route, its more expensive but with replacement clause. Good luck.

Hi unsourire, I will share what I believe to be true for UAE legally. in UAE, you can only work for your sponsor, nobody else. Own visa is illegal way. For a maid to be working at your home, you have to hire her on your personal sponsorship and not of the company. If, of the company, depending on license and activity, it may or may not be permitted to work other than office premise. On personal sponsorship, you can do the cancellation, New visa issued and status change, within the country. It is a bit expensive though. With last line what I understand is this: there is a lady, who is on her husband sponsorship and wishes to work as maid in your house. If you have NOC from her husband, will it be a legal status for her to work at your home? No it won't be. Maid has to be on your personal sponsorship or on an agency sponsorship. In case of maid, there is no labor department involved. Had she applied for an office job, her husband's NOC and labor approval was sufficient for her to work. But your need is for home hence not applicable. Hope this helps.

Here are my few pence. 1. Cut cost as much you can. 2. Don't take new loan 3. Try to reach out to someone who can trust you and lend money without interest, to help you out. 4. Approach your employer for possible loan or Leave Salary Advance. 5. Try of you can get a credit card - no don't do that. To use credit card to your advantage, you need to be good with numbers and details which does not seem like the case. 6. Join a group for pooling money monthly basis. They pool an amount per person per month, as group and one of them picks the whole amount one month. 7. Try to earn extra if overtime is possible. Good luck.

Resident on account of Spouse visa, is only for living legally in the country. It is not a permit to work. In the event they wish to work legally, the employer will need to take a labor approval for specific candidate which in turn, makes the contract legal and binding. This brings the protection for the employee, in the event they need it. Since you have spouse sponsored visa, residency formalities by company are not required. Employer sponsorship puts all related costs on their account. Rest all is same. Hope this helps.

It is a difficult choice to make as there are several if/then case scenarios. For there is no residents to make choice of employment on their own, you will have to choose between sponsoring yourself or through a company. Legally of course. Cost is very important factor. If I were to hire on my sponsorship and truns out unfit, its a big loss. If I hire through agency, usually they are live-in with reasonable cost. Since there is no cost of living on account of the Nanny, overall cost is low. Call this Cost A. For Live-out, If you add cost of accommodation (monthly) & transport (daily up & down) for the nanny, you will see this can no more be anywhere close to the Cost A. You may check with some of the reliable cleaning company if they have someone with experience of Nanny, on board with them and that may work out. Good luck.

My contract states that i am entitled of 30days paid annual leave against the whole term of the contract What does this mean? Need answers please.... What is period of your contract? Is it one year? is it 6 months? Is it 2 years? For maids sponsored by expats, generally standard contract CAN be 12 month. It is not same for Emarati sponsoring a maid. If you are sponsored by an agency/company, it is a third category and can be interpreted differently. In all cases, leave is taken on mutual agreement of both parties.

If you're doing the cleaning yourself then it's pointless her being there. Speak to her company. Ask if they could send someone else. If there is still no improvement then best change your cleaning company again. Very frustrating and a waste of money. bye: I agree.

Depends what sort of work sector. Plenty of people have freelance visas these days and work self-employed for others, I do, certainly nothing wrong in that. There are also companies that offer visas, they do it legally and above board and arrange everything for you, have several friends who have done that. The traditional 'sponsor' visa route doesn't always apply these days, as there are many other options. Simple rule for UAE residence visas - Work visa, dependent visa, Partner/investor visa. You can work, if it is a work visa, for the party issuing the visa - nobody else, unless employed by labor supply company. @Amy - by what you mentioned, its illegal.

She'll need a family member to sponsor her visit visa. You can then start the resident visa application process without her having to leave the country. The problem lies with the Philipine government, not UAE. Note that this will be a temporary solution. Once she travels to PHP on holiday, she will not allowed to return as this employment will be against their law.

Whats done is done and can't be changed but learn a lesson from there. Had you Informed your madam about you being late, situation would be different. Its not clear who is your sponsor. If your employer is sponsoring you and has two homes, they can ask you to go to other home. If you are working through an agency, agency has the choice to assign you another client. Obviously you have a choice to accept to quit.

There are so many aspects involved in this process that any estimate will be only a wild guess. To find a maid that you wish to hire and she wishes to join you - How are you planning to find her or you have already somebody sorted? What is the visa status for this person when you intend to begin the process. It could be tourist, employment or cancelled status. Depending on nationality, formalities could be different hence time taken will be different. Start as soon you can, it can take few weeks to several months.

One thing that most overlook in VAT discussions is that many items are already priced much higher than in other countries, sometimes being double the price. I was thinking the same thing, Arch. I will certainly be doing more online shopping once this tax is introduced. We already pay 20-30% more on average for most things in the shops, and that's compared to countries that have taxes! Dubai has this tag of "shoppers paradise", and while that was true 10 years ago, I don't think I know a single person who believes this anymore. Most of my friends have switched from going shopping or to the mall for fun, to shopping only for what you need and getting as much as you can during sales or online. If you walk through any major shopping mall these days you see lots of walkers and people watchers, but hardly anyone in the shops buying things. I always find it amusing that the big malls report these huge "footfall" numbers and then charge the shops rents based on that, when in reality the "footfall" is exactly that - people just walking because there's nowhere else to go in the heat! So the mall tells the shop they'll increase the rent this year because of a gazzillion visitors (not shoppers!), the shop passes on the rent increase to the customer via higher prices, and even fewer people shop as a result. And now with the lack of tourists, it's hurting even more. Last year at this time, I counted one Saudi license plate for every four cars parked at MoE. This year, I think I saw a couple over two days. Did anyone pay attention when they said focus on Non-oil economy & Human Capital development? My professor at Columbia university tough me to read the different news in the paper and see the thread running in them for a larger picture. It helped me to understand but it still hurts nonetheless :(

The website can only show the number plate for free. I had considered asking for full picture few years back once, they had advised a cost of aed 50, which must have gone up by now ;) Once you have full picture, you can see full car front view. I don't think in UAE you can duplicate number plates like movies But worth the effort i think:biggrin: You certainly can duplicate number plates here and it happens A LOT. I remember it was getting so common a few years ago that the press picked up on it. Given what has been said in this thread, I'd bet that this is what has happened in this particular case. Definitely pay for the photo! I am surprised if that is possible. With camera's on everything that stands tall , I wounder how could that be. Well, info received.;)

Yes it's happened to me a few times. All I do is keep the texts and then check my bank statement online to make sure I haven't been charged twice. So far it's been fine. I do the same as Geordi. Now I check my statement anyways, since it has become a drain hole for unwatched fees or transactions. I check my Phone bills too as I find charges that are incorrectly added to the bill. I am glad i could get some them reversed but some just don't. They charge you nonetheless. For example, I get a call from telecom company to upgrade without any extra fee. After several phone calls, I agreed. Later I saw my billing amount changed. I called and registered complaint and it was corrected. Had I not seen the details, I would have paid just down the drain ;)

I had a great experience with a maid service here, got lucky with a great maid out of the gate. It is a 4 hour minimum with this particular company, and I think she allocated the time perfectly. As time wore on, said maid in particular was getting booked up and it was harder to get appointments when I needed them, so I accepted an appointment with 2 maids who cleaned for 2 hours. Result was not good as the cleaning was not up to par and worse, they didn't listen when told to leave certain things alone. I spoke to the manager about it and he was determined to make it right; I think this is the difference, when the manager actually cares about customer service and satisfaction. He took the feedback seriously and wants all of his maids to be as good as they can be. Now when I call to book, he knows the level of cleaning that I expect and which maid(s) I would be happy with. If no one is available that day, he will tell me so, or, he will send someone and advise me to show them everything, not take for granted they will know what to do. It's just a fact that not all maids in the same service company are equally good. If you are able to find a service where the manager is frank about this, I believe this is the difference. But if you switch services every time you have a bad experience you can't really develop that rapport with the manager. I think that makes the difference. Clear communication and willingness to give good customer service is really the key. There are not many around though.

Hi Crystyna "because we are from Romania they don't want to give us resident visa" - Whom are you referring to as They? If you mean employer then where is the point to come to Dubai? If you mean UAE authorities then Romanians are allowed in UAE as most European citizens are. I am attaching a link for UAE Ministry of Foreign affairs for your easy read. As they are allowing visa on arrival, it is unlikely to have any restriction to take a residence visa on Job basis. http://www.mofa.gov.ae/EN/ConsularServices/Pages/Visa-Information.aspx Hope this helps.

I love my maid, she is very trustworthy, takes great care of my kid, she is very clean and polite. Long story short, ever since my kid started nursery and she is left alone almost all day, I could tell she became a bit irritated than usual and in the past two weeks I feel she has been slagging in her job a bit. Then all of a sudden she came to me one morning and told me that she will not renew her contract this year and that is her final decision. When I asked her about the reason, she told me the stupidest story ever (Family fight and they know where she works and so she wants to move to another employer IN DUBAI so that they cant find her as she doesn't wanna be bothered by them cuz they know where she works!). I am extremely confused. I have been nothing but so generous with this woman, treated her like an absolute family member, gave her frequent bonuses, bought her generous gifts, paid vacations whenever we travel (which is a lot), I have only one child and the house is relatively small so its not that the job is this overly tiring for her. I had a talk with her yesterday and told her that she shouldnt leave for this reason and that she should leave only if she is unhappy or similar (where she said that she is VERY happy). I def sense something fishy but really worried about going through the cycle of getting a new maid...etc especially that I work for long hours and my husband is barely here. Any advises? Let her go? Negotiate with her to stay? If she is adamant that she wants to leave then you have no choice but to put her on a plane and let her go. Her story sounds very fishy and you may never get the bottom of it. You could try and talk to her again however if he mind is made up then sadly there isn't anything you can do as she is entitled to leave. If she does finish up with you I would make sure she gets on the plane and doesn't hang around Dubai trying to find another role I agree. I think her story was crafted so she has a blessing from me to find another employer in Dubai/UAE after her contract is done, which I shut down immediately. While I know letting her go is the right thing to do, I am also dreading searching for a new one especially with my very demanding job. :-( I also think she will def resist getting on a plane after I cancel her visa. I think her plan is to stay and work for someone else so I am also worried about this whole phase of cancellation/her trying to persuade me to keep her in Dubai...etc. Any useful advises? She is a live out. Give immigration a call or go and meet with them, they will give you the correct advice. Legally as she on a maids contract she is allowed to stay here and look for work, when her cancellation is done You will have her PP to do the cancellation and you have to take her to the airport and make sure she leaves if she doesn't she is still your responsibility until she has a new visa. I do not think she has a choice in this matter legally Does she have a maids contract with you? Once the cancellation is done, employee can demand the passport and you have no way to ensure their travel. I was also believing like Sarah mentioned. Any employee can go to the Dubai court, report that their passport is held up. They will issue a letter by the court to the employer to release the passport immediately. This letter is then taken to local police station. Police then calls the sponsor and asks them to come to police station and handover the passport to its owner with due procedure. I asked the same question. Am I not responsible for her till she exits? or where she travels to? Police said NO. How will I know she left the country or not? They said, take her passport copy and get status report from any DNRD office. If she has overstayed, ONLY then you report her absconding. There is a cost involved in reporting absconding as well. Which I didn't have to do, luckily. Hope this helps.

The new fuel price is expected between AED 2.3 to 2.5 rest the time will tell. Once upon a time there were benefits to live in Gulf States. State would keep several services for free for residents. Now it won't be surprising if we will be paying TAX as well in near future. How can you justify the 3 piece suit in a desert land? Likewise how can you adopt methods of societies which are built of different models. A society grows to a certain law & order structure. Importing them elsewhere won't be wise.

So don't worry. Just keep the details of the event written down as you might, jyst in case, need them later. The finer print here is this. Do you know, by law, you need to have labor approval, even if you are on your husband sponsorship. In fact it is illegal to work without such approval. Once you have labor approval, you are at par with anyone else in the company, for Law. But law has limited conditions that they can enforce. While there are several other benefits that are upto the employer to offer / employee to negotiate. As long as it is in your offer letter and labor contract, you have your right to those benefits. If one is working without labor approval, such individual will have no rights in the eyes of Law as they have engaged in illegal activity. Hope this helps.
