Well, I tried to think what I would do, if in such situation. It totally depends on how I value this relationship. Its lot of stress to get involved so it better be worth the agony. If you value this relation: Are you sure of this? Sometime we understand things differently. If this is confirmed - go and let your friend face the truth.

UAE law is pretty simple. If she is not employed (in legal terms, sponsored her visa) by you, its illegal for her to work for you. Irrespective of which other visa she may be on. Her own visa usually means so many illegal options. Just to put it in perspective, security guard at my community can not cleans my car or waters my garden, legally. The other side of the coin is this. Lot goes on which is not strictly as per law but in case of any untoward event, you can not even take it to police. It is not safe.

Dear All, We are currently looking at hiring a live out maid. Do anybody know what is the procedure to process her visa and what is the cost associated to that? Also, we had a couple of ladies mentioning that they are currently on their husband sponsorship. Is that legal to let her on her husband visa? Looking forward to your replies. Taking a job from other than than your sponsor is illegal. In case sponsored by spouse, labor permit is obtained and it becomes lawful. Fine of 50K to hiring party if found employing someone without correct papers. edited by touimi on 03/05/2015

Rules on Ban in UAE are much softer than what they were in history. Anyone, almost, can change a job after having completed 1 year in contract. There are few fine details such as Limited or unlimited contract and educational level etc. But its cake walk in comparison to past. In case you have a ban, new employer pays a fee to the government and gets it removed. I wouldn't believe it few years back. But now, its happening. WLO had put certain conditions for UAE to fulfill and free manpower movement was one of them.

My husband issued a health card for our housemaid. It costed around 300 dhs. I'm not sure if he issued it at dubai hospital or at the local clinic near our house, but now our housemaid can visit the clinic near home. The card you mentioned gives her access. You pay for everything like you would in private clinic or hospital. I recollect, several years (10 or more) old reference where they charged AED 200 for consultation and wrote the medicines to be purchased outside. I have seen more benevolent healthcare system in Dubai. I have lost hope in government health system several years back.

You probably don't want to hear this, but as her employer your required by law to provide her with health insurance. For now take her to Iranian Hospital, pay the fee and hope it's nothing serious. I would like to understand this requirement correctly. As for what I know, this is applicable for companies and not individuals. But if you have any resource online to clarify this matter I would appreciate. I am infact looking for an health insurance for my maid and every one of the proposal is over AED 3,000. Is that what everyone is paying or have I missed some plan. Laws have changed and you now have to submit proof of health insurance for your maid. Here's a recent quite I received from Dubai National Insurance Company and Orient Insurance Company.: DNIRC (Gold) 2106 DNIRC (Silver) 1959 AOIC (Green) 3847 AOIC (Silk Road) 3546 We used to have Noor Takaful insurance, but hey don't provide plans for domestic servants anymore. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 27/04/2015 Thanks for the info. Any employment is legal if it has gone through the procedural requirement with Local Labor department. Even for those who are on spouse visa, and wish to take up a job in the market, will need an NOC from Sponsor, in this case, spouse and Labor approval. Visa in this case remains same. Unfortunately, this does not apply on Maids. To be legal, she has to be on your visa. Cost of total procedure depends on nationality of the maid. Dubai government fees are approximately below AED 6K. Live-out is more of your own agreement. edited by touimi on 26/04/2015

Labor contract is part of visa issuing process. Usually as you will submit your papers at DNRD counter, they will ask few details such as salary & print few copies of the standard contract. You would need to have the maid sign it, on spot or come back later. Submit and you are done. During renewal, they may just ask, any changes to contract. And if not, no process required.

Couldn't agree more. Its mutual and its personal. Flow with what makes sense. It's up to your employer and it should be mutually agreed between you and your madam when you're hired. I provide my maid with sets of matching single colored trousers and shirts to wear around the house while cleaning. I didn't like her original cleaning clothes because they were worn and rather tacky such as t-shirts with cartoonish imagery, but I didn't want her to wear her nice clothes either. So I went to Carrefour and bought new clothes for her to clean in, and I replace them as needed.

Usually a local sponsor is expected to partner in business or charge for formalities sake. If someone is doing it for you without a fee, they are helping you. As for obligations for sponsors, only POA can help. Other best step to take is form company as Civil Partnership where local emarati is only service agent and not partner. Hope this helps.

In case of family, which is usually sponsored by either of the parent. Before parent can cancel their visa, dependent must be cancelled or in case of another job offer, put on hold with a deposit of AED 5000. This ho;d is valid for 1 month and sponsoring parent must get his/her visa stamped on [passport in 30 days. This way no need to cancel dependent visa. HTH.

Your landlord cannot increase the rent at all if he has not given you 90 days notice. Even if he did send you an email it is not a registered certified notice which is required. The rental committee does not recognise emails. Don't let your landlord push you around. I have the worst landlord ever and if he refuses to allow you to stay or sign a contract with the same terms the rental committee told me to give the cheque/s to them with the signed contract (from the current year or the year previous) and leave it with them. They call the owner and tell him he can collect the cheques from them. Sends a pretty direct message he can't increase the rent if he gets a call from RERA directly. Perfect option, just that rental committee procedures and crowed is discouraging. I went through once, got my rights but it was very time taking.

Well, it depends how convenient is the alternate :-) What nationality is candidate? All don't have same recruitment challenges. What I know, If they are on visit visa (not tourist) they won't need to go out. You can pay the status change while they are in the country. If she has tourist visa, you could get the pink visa first, book A to A service with any travel agent and they will be flying in & out in 1 day. Cost about Aed 600 tops. Hope it helps.

Not being able to multi-task? More like, not house-broken by the right woman yet. My dad was firmly entrenched in the awesomely golden trappings of the older generation, wouldn't lift a finger around the house. My mum worked full time, looked after the children and cooked. It does not stem from not being able to think through tasks, its just one spouse taking another for granted and not doing his/her fair share. I have a male friend who works full-time and has to use his lunch break to pick up his daughter from school and drop her home, to her SAHM who refuses to do it, doesn't want to get a job and wont keep the house tidy. I called my friend one day and he was using his day off to vacuum the carpeting (this is in another country). He is miserable and the marriage is breaking down. No matter who does it, when one spouse pulls more weight consistently with little support it will breed resentment and the family life balance suffers. The key to this is to leave emotions out of it and just state clearly if you need help and expect to have it done, without him thinking he deserves a medal for it (even if he thinks it, that's his business). In this day and age when both spouses work true value for a marriage comes through when both feel supported and appreciated. Well stated. Most couples have this imbalance to some degree. Do what you like or like what you do or don't do it at all - is my mantra. Life is too short for regrets. Would it be wrong to say this IS a serious problem in today's time. And no solution would be found in future too since we, as society, have not yet accepted this as requiring formal attention.

DS school asked for 10,000 either in cash or current dated check to be paid before 27 March. They sent us a letter mid feb, if we decide not to enrol him before the start of the academic year, AED 500 will be deducted from the amount and they will refund the remaining 9500 edited by wickedangel_78 on 18/03/2015 When you say current dated check, I'm assuming they are cashing it right away then? 10k...per child...that's a lot of money! That certainly is a lot of money. I wonder how to balance the two sides though?

Hi Ladies, I joined the forum recently, I am 6 months pregnant and wondering how and where can I apply to have a full time maid/nanny sponsored. I need her to be available by the last week of July maximum. your help and feedback are much appreciated! thanx edited by MAB on 18/03/2015 Your question is not clear. Are you asking where to find maid or where to apply for a maid that you like to hire. Well, applying visa for a maid is easier part through DNRD (Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department). It costs a lot, Manara center is usually less crowded. Finding a maid that suits your needs is the bigger challenge these days, in my opinion.

Well, you make me think. When I look back, why did I not face this situation? My maid's holidays are not linked with her visa renewal. She plans ahead to suit her family events and usually extends over 1 year and in effect takes longer holiday. Come to think of it, I would have lost all the visa cost, if she choose to not come back. Cost is same every year. Just that the deposit that you make on first instance remain valid.

If I was in your shoes, I would take a map of Dubai, locate the where I am and where I wish to visit. And see Metro / Tram etc located around. Gold NOL card is best suited for most cases as it gets crowded in regular section. Cab can be replace with Uber service. https://www.uber.com/cities/dubai cab can be reported if not on meter.

If staying behind while you are away than ticket is not due. If she stays behind whilst you are away, is not holiday for maid. I would stock the necessary and leave sufficient cash for general day-to-day requirements. What is Maid's nationality? If she is Filipina and you hire her locally, she wouldn't want to go back home for technical challenges their government procedures pose. (Don't ask the details, you will faint). Well, as for medical insurance - there is no health insurance as much i know from Government as such. When you do medical, they would give her a yellow card with some vaccination. You will need to keep that card safe as this is her immunization record for dose. If you like to avoid any high risk consequence, take an insurance like anyone would for him or herself. Its expensive, I know. The low cost insurance that the Government declared is yet only available to companies and that too with large number of head count only. I am also looking for solution to cover this aspect. Hope this helps.

Well, no other Doctor would give you back dated medical certificate. As Polly said correctly, the best bet is the same doctor who was treating you as they have the record and no chance of that being untrue. Medical issued by doctor and medical issued by Ministry is two different documents. With above suggestion, you could get only the GP recommendation for rest a medical certificate in back date. Ministry certificate, legal by law, is not possible in back date. Good Luck.
