Thanks for all recommendations...furniture shopping this week. A friend also mentioned IDdesign...fingers crossed I find what I am looking for. Daza can't agree with u more...i buy things that I like...fashion changes from year to year, and I do not renovate my rooms annually. Zohra I love IKEA for certain furniture but not in my main lounge/bedroom, I like things to be a little more unique in those rooms

Sorry you didn't have a good experience there. I used an online deal there months ago. The manager/owner was pleasant and friendly enough but I could see her manner could be seen as quite sharp at times. JLT can be quite confusing the 1st you visit but really it is quite simple...each cluster is allocated a letter of alphabet...so A to Z, if driving you follow the road around until you get to the letter u need. The distances between clusters are quite far so if walking it sounds like it would a nightmare. There have been times I have missed my letter and had to drive right around the one way system again!! The salon should have given you their cluster letter to help you out

Usually don't have to book but turn up a little early so you can buy your ticket and book place on boat. Remember this mini cruise is in the family Entertainer book so buy one ticket get another ticket free. Enjoy. Been on it several times and has always been a great activity for an hour.

cckl I've seen a lot of things I like in the store so was thinking it would be sensible to save some $ and wait for the sale. However totally agree with JJBAUS, perhaps not worth waiting for sale if I miss out on the items I like. I know that The One's stock system is fab and they can quickly tell you how many items are available. I will probably just go into the store this week and ask about any discount if I buying a few things...always worth a try...

After loads of research used Gulf Air. It was even cheaper than the dreaded China Air Cathay Pacific was the cheapest by a few hundred dirhams but arrival times were around midnight in Manila. As in previous years my maid admitted she was a little afraid of arriving that late so I ended up paying just a couple more hundred dhs for a flight with Gulf Air. That flight arrives around noon. Stop off time in Bahrain is minimal overall, total flight time low, cheap flight for us but convenient flight for our maids. So win win.

2nd Decathalon...Nice ballet shoes there and only 69AED. Unfortunately the ballet outfits were for older girls (around age 10 and my daughter is only age 3). If anyone has been to Decathalon recently and seen younger girls ballet tutu's etc then please post. Thanks

I recommend you contact Groupon customer service and explain that you are unable to use the offer as they can only offer a male. Even though I think you should have researched the offer properly before buying I do think Groupon will listen and think your point is valid. PS I recently received a full refund of an offer I had purchased but was unable to use. I found Groupon very understanding and efficient in processing my refund. Good luck

If you want to buy it perhaps look at getting the National newspaper subscription for 300 AED as this entitles you to a free Entertainer book...so in effect you get the Entertainer book for 300 AED. I always get the Family one. We definitely get our moneys worth as we go to the waterparks and have many casual family lunches/dinners. Also I noticed the Ferrari World is in this years book - perfect for visitors.

I spend 4K to 5K per month on groceries alone sometimes more if we are entertaining. Please share your menu planner..what kind of food do you eat? Less expensive meat and fish and more veg...would love some of your recipes to cut my costs. I am in middle of printing off some budget meal ideas off netmums...but not sure if my husband will be that keen on these recipes all the time. Thanks

I live in Meadows and a couple of my neighbours have moved out recently. Both due to the landlord wanting more rent. One lady said her LL wanted to increase her rent from around 240K to 280K for her 4 bed villa (which is in its original state...ie not been renovated or improved since it was built so older kitchen/floor tiles/bathroom fittings now). She said no thanks and moved to a brand new 5 bed with pool. Now the bit about me feeling a bit mean....the villa is still sitting empty 3 months on...perhaps 60K lost rent for the LL (at the old rent price!!) Am I being mean for having a chuckle at the landlord for being so greedy and now being left with an empty villa?? Yes I am sure it will be filled soon enough but at least the landlord has been given a reality check. I think rents are going up but not as much as what landlords are hoping for.

Thanks for all replies ladies. I will speak to my husband to see what he wants to do. Wiggy not sure if rules have changed recently or not...I spoke to Medcare earlier today and the nurse clearly knew what I was asking but she said vasectomy's definitely not done there (or officially anyway!)

OK I phoned several hospitals today and they all said a definite NO! So now looking for some advice ladies...does my husband just book an appt with an urologist in Dubai and ask him about it? My issue with the urologist's here is that it sounds like they may not do many vasectomy's so their skills might not be up to scratch?? Also which hospital to choose? Otherwise it needs to be a trip back to the UK. Anyone got any recommendations there? Thanks

Hi I don't live in Ranches...was just in that area.Today I ended up calling the police..but they can't do much without proof of who was responsible. Perhaps I should report to the closest security guards thou just in case they saw anything. btw on Saturday I did clean the egg off the car or so I thought...the egg left a residue that has attached to the paint...it is this residue that I was trying to remove today. Heard vinegar and washing detergent was good but in my case hasn't worked. It might be a respray of bonnet so gutted as car new and respray will prob cost a fortune!

I left my car over the holiday weekend near Jess school Arabian Ranches. I thought Ranches was safe so had no concerns. Unfortunately someone threw an egg (or 2) on the car. I didn't think much about it until I tried to get the egg off! It doesn't come off easily as it is damaging to car paint work. Did anyone else get their house/car etc damaged with eggs over the weekend?!! Did you report it to the police? Is it worth reporting to the police? Thanks for any advice...now back to trying to scrub this egg off the car!

My usual dry cleaners (Champion?) do not dry clean black out curtains (due to that plastic looking material on the back of them). Anyone know which companies do? New Dubai end of town if possible. Thanks

Nice of you to post cymraes so you make more people aware. When ID cards were first introduced (3 odd ago??) I registered my child. All you had to do at that time was fill out a form for them. And it was only about 6 months ago that I found out rules have changed for kids under 15 (I personally do not think there was enough public info available for this particular rule change) I went to register my child last month and it was a very quick and easy process but it did cost 270 AED!

I know of 2 branches, Burj Al Arab and Umm Suqeim. From what I understand the Burj Al Arab branch is moving to a new location a few minutes away in the Al Thania direction so probably in Umm Suqeim 2 area. I don't know if one better than the other. I would assume quality of teaching very similar. Best to visit both branches to see which one you like.

Would recommend Children's Oasis especially due to quality of teachers. Had my 1st child at Oasis for a few years and we were happy. We were at "old" premises so outdoor space small but still we were satisfied other things made up for it. Can't wait to see new premises thou. With 2nd child I decided to visit alternative nurseries in case there was an amazing nursery I was missing out on....I did not find such nursery even after months of searching. I was especially not interested in brand new nurseries...I believe there are always teething problems. Plus did not like idea of child starting in one class with certain teacher then having to move class/teacher once more children had joined the nursery mid term (this happened in new "green' nursery when they were not at full capacity)

i booked gulf air- 1500dhs with a 45 mins turnaround in bahrain- flight times work out perfect too. she wasnt overly impressed that i booked gulf air but thats another story :) Why was she not impressed with Gulf Air??? I mentioned Gulf Air to my maid and she said fine but could I watch out the stop over times (her last employer had booked a flight that had 8 hours stop over in Bahrain!!) and time she arrives in Manila (last flight I bought her was Qatar and she arrived really late at night so was bit concerned about safety). I've had look at flights with Gulf Air and got ones without these issues. Stopovers 1 and 2 hours and arrival time 5pm...perfect. Also cost 1600 AED! Would rather give her a cash bonus rather than pay money on airline tickets! Eden/Alimart..sorry flights seem expensive on March dates. Is it because you are not booking enough in advance? I assume my Gulf Air price of 1600AED is a special deal as booking so far in advance and no changes/cancellation allowed on ticket

You're right Chocs01...when I researched it said only fines received up to I think Sept 2011 would be discounted. My husband got his speeding fine Nov so unfort no discount for us. This is applicable in Dubai. I checked Abu Dhabi and they are still offering 50% discount on all current speeding fines. Going to pay those asap in case they retract this 50% discount

I got to the payment page of their website but the full fine amount was showing (not the discount amount). I am scared to go further or else I will end up paying full amount..and not getting the 40% discount. Anyone paid a fine recently? Was the discount given?

Crystil thanks for that. I did notice some stores made a comment that the sofa contains some 'fake' leather (sorry can't remember the word they used) but what about buying from company like The One, Q etc how can we tell if real? Also do you think buying from Dragon mart would be risky as leather could be fake?

Anyone know if The One on Beach road has different/more stock than the branch in Mall of Emirates? I tried Q at Oasis Centre, unfort did not like the style of any brown ones but seemed good enough quality and very reasonable prices. Also tried Homes R Us but definitely not what I am looking for. Want a quality piece that will last some years. Here prices very cheap. If anyone else knows of any more stores please let me know, Thanks
