Hi Beachbum British Schools: Kellet School and many of the English Schools Foundation (ESF) schools. It depends on where you will live though because traffic can be/ is a nightmare. Dogs: Parkview, Stanley, Shek O, Tai Tam, Shouson Hill, Southside, Pokfulam - all on HK Island and dog-friendly. On Kowloon side/ New Territories, Clearwater Bay and Sai Kung. Discovery Bay is a lovely community, a 30-minute ferry ride from Central. I am not sure about British secondary schools in Discovery Bay though. Also not sure about quarantine and pets per visa. Housing prices: varies widely depending on the area. Also bear in mind some 3-beds are under 1,000 sq ft whereas some 2-beds are over 2,000 sq ft. It is impossible to find similar sized properties for similar rent as in Dubai. For reference, take a look here: http://www.househunters.com.hk/ Riding lessons: I rode at the Pokfulam Public Riding School and the Tuen Mun Public Riding School, information provided in Metro's reply. There could be a long waiting list though depending on the abilities of the rider (beginners on 2-year waitlist). There is also the Clearwater Bay Equestrian Center and the Lowu Saddle Club, both lovely and a little more expensive. At the top end is the Hong Kong Jockey Club in Fanling, HKD1,200 for 50-minute private lessons. Sailing, yes very easy to access. We had a hobie in Tai Tam, there is also a club in Deepwater Bay and in Causeway Bay. Running clubs: http://www.hkrunners.com/node/18 There is a ladies tennis league and many youth leagues. Most private recreational clubs also run their own tennis leagues and running clubs. HTH, if you have any questions, feel free to ask I might be able to help.

Hi Mariah, Gulf Montessori offers courses that would lead to the recognized certification you are looking for and yes I know nurseries hire graduates from them. Google for contact information. HTH

From Choithram's at your left, Go straight until you see the big Spinney's on your right, make a right immediately pass the Spinney's, continue till the end of the road, you will be at a roundabout with a water fountain. Turn right at the roundabout, Montgomerie is straight ahead.

If you are interested in Makaton, contact Prit Chouhan, she is the Makaton Regional Trainer Tel: 050 774 0734 [email protected] I know she runs baby sign language classes at Favourite Things in Dubai, she can let you know if she runs classes in AD. Prit also sells the Something Special CD's. We had some private lessons with her but ended up choosing ASL for our son. If you are interested in ASL, perhaps consider Baby Signing Time by Rachel Coleman? You can google this program, or look on YouTube for some sample videos. HTH!

Hi hilsbils, I think you're referring to the NT scan, which is done between 11-14 weeks. It's a screening test and not a diagnostic test - the only way to ascertain if your baby has DS is to get CVS or an amnio. Yes - children/ individuals with DS have a wide range of abilities but regardless of ability, having a child (DS or not) is a rewarding experience. IMHO, all children, whether they are typical or have additional needs, present challenges - which is what makes parenting such an exciting journey! If you do find out you are expecting a child with DS, it makes a lot of sense to speak to a doctor and a support group. What you might find most helpful is to meet other children with DS! There is also quite a bit (on the web) written by fathers of children with DS - I assure you, all of them unconditionally love their child and are proud of their achievements! If you have any questions, I'm also happy to help:)

Hi Homeward Bound - I also saw Terrespin (4 inch figurine?) in Geant (Ibn Battuta) the toys aisle about an hour ago. They had 5 pieces, I'm pretty sure it was under AED50. HTH

Agree Dr Loubser is great - my son sees him too. He told me if I wanted to get a same-day appointment, I should call when the reception desk opens at 8am. I've not had problems getting same-day appointments if DS needed to see him urgently. But I usually schedule a few weeks in advance.

We're moving and need to have some curtains refitted. I used Joseph several times in the past and was very pleased with his service. I tried calling his mobile number - which has been cut off, and the fixed line on the old invoices - no answer. Does anyone know where he is, whether Aleena Curtains still exist or if in fact, he is still in Dubai and in the same business? Thanks in advance, ladies.

Hi Mizpah - I gave my son Vaxigrip in early October - he ended up running a fever of 38.3 the night he received the vaccine and was generally not feeling great the day of the jab. He was 12 months when he received the vaccine. How old is your baby? Be sure you check with your pedia that your baby will receive the pediatric dose of the Vaxigrip, which is one 0.25ml dose of 7.5 micrograms for each of the 3 strains recommended by the WHO for 2011/2012. This is the dosage recommended from 6 months to 35 months, and if your baby has not previously vaccinated against flu, a second dose should be given after 4 weeks. I was not able to find the pediatric dose in Dubai (my son got the pediatric dose while we were in Asia), our pedia here offered the Vaxigrip but at 15 micrograms for each of the 3 strains. Common side effects for vaccines are headaches, sweating, fever, redness, swelling etc. where the vaccine is injected, though babies react differently to jabs. These usually go away in a day or 2 without treatment. Don't give the vaccine to your baby if she's allergic to eggs. Hope this helps. Turnip

plumie - have you tried keeping a food diary to see if it's what she's having for lunch or dinner? the exact same thing happened to DS (now 13 months) recently and it also only happened with the formula feed right before bedtime. I couldn't figure it out until I started tracking what he was having for lunch and dinner (down to individual ingredient). After a few weeks I thought it might have been difficulty digesting lentils and beans - it was causing a lot of wind and trapped gas. I cut those out and it hasn't happened again. Might be worth trying?

Hi twinbutterfly I have 13 cans of Neocate that have an expiry date of 02/2012. DS could not tolerate any cow's milk or soy-based formula so the paediatrician advised us to give him Neocate. We brought a big supply back to Dubai as I wasn't sure if we could regularly find Neocate here. Now DS seems to have outgrown the soy intolerance and no longer takes Neocate (although still cow's milk intolerant). And yes, as lemondrops said, it tastes awful, especially for DS who was coming off being EBF. It took him a while to get used to it. Let me know if you are interested.
