Hello 49M&Ms, We are looking for a live-out maid and what you describe sounds just right for us. We are totally flexible with the starting date as I am a SAHM. How could we talk to her? If you prefer getting in touch with us, my email address is [email protected]. Thank you!

Thanks you Ladies, very helpful! I was thinking of a reshoot but did not want to seem unreasonable. Kiwispiers, you are worth your weight in gold on EW :) Saggi, I really would not like to post any names on here. It is none of the names you have short listed, if that helps. If you really want to know, I can send you a note offline.

I am sure I have seen recycling boxes at the counters of electronics shops. Can't remember which one specifically I saw it at, but pretty sure they do accept them.

I feel rude coming back to thank you all, weeks after you all took the time to respond. Many thanks for your words of support and the feedback on the NICU - feel much more comfortable about it now but it also appears that they tend to be full, so let's see how things go... I have found some of your stories so very touching and have had a few tears rolling down my cheeks. I hope you all have beautiful, healthy and smart babies by now! Thank you very much, once again xxx

We got ours at ELC. They don't sell them in the emirate of Dubai due to 'safety laws' as they claim the magnets can come off, but they can ask to have them brought across from one of their shops in a different emirate. We have had ours (number and letters) for over a year and have been dropped many times but the magnets have never fallen off. If they don't do them anymore (not sure if they may have stopped them altogether, so best if to check their ME brochure) I would probably try Borders and ToysRUs. edited by twin_butterfly on 04/12/2013

Congratulations! I am sure you are super excited to have little bub home with you. I remember the day I managed to get DS out - the most magical day of my life! Did you manage to talk to the neonatologist? The main issue I had at Welcare was that in five days of being at the NICU every minute of the day we were allowed to be in there (although I was recovering from a CS) I did not manage to see or talk to the neonatologist who was caring for my son. They always said that he had either already been there (outside visiting hours, so parents didn't have access to him) or would come for example at midday (which did not happen as I was there patiently waiting for his majesty), or would come in the evening outside visiting hours (?!). Until I complained to the medical director and I got a call from the neonatologist in person within five minutes :) anyway, I was not impressed with the follow up visit and we moved to a paed outside the hospital as soon as DS was discharged. Unfortunately the team at the NICU was also unable to tell me what was being done to my son and what was the progress - kept totally in the dark with vague comments like: 'he just needs to be in here a few more days to make sure he is fine'. For any further questions I had I was always referred to the neonatologist who never showed up at the time they said he would! As you say, it felt like an eternity but even more so when you don't know and understand why your newborn is being kept away from you and you are no given an indication of how many more days or weeks it will last! I just want to make sure there is someone on duty who can discuss with the parents in detail the condition of the newborn, treatment followed and progress. Also, do they have breast feeding support? There was none of that at my hospital. But have read that they are very pro-kangaroo care and I suspect this could mean they also have good BF support. Many thanks! :)

Ha ha ha ... I see I am not the only one for whom weeks are flying by. I have a little chart on my fridge telling me how many weeks I am each Saturday so that I realise how much I need to fit in in that little (less every day) time left! Dubaibambino, I think you and I are pretty much the same (26 weeks and two days now). Doing my glucose test next weekend and also freaking out about the not eating until mid-morning. I am planning to go in as soon as they open at 7.30am so that I can have my hearty breakfast by 10am - yep, eating for two, alright :) Can't say much about the weight gain as I tend to gain very little - was the same with number one - although I feel huge and always afraid my back will suffer with the extra weight on my belly. And yes, Little Missy can kick too! I can't remember my first one being this active :) Would like to join the Thursday meet-ups at Marina Mall but not sure how kid-friendly they are - I have a 30 month-old and highly active toddler :)

Am in the middle (26 weeks) of a high risk pregnancy and after a first preterm delivery, my OB/gyn is closely watching this pregnancy. Taking it very easy but chances are I might need to have number two put in NICU again. We are not in City but my doctor has agreed to do delivery there, where she has privileges, given that she does not have another delivery happening at the same time at Welcare where she is based. After a bad experience with NICU at Welcare, I am now looking for feedback on the one at City. Have read wonderful things on the link they have on this page on preterm deliveries so my expectations are high :)

Today's cleaning session has been ... Let's say eventful. I asked her to start with the ironing and in one and a half hours she only ironed 5 of my husband's shirts and three pairs of trousers as well as 6 of my son's (toddler) tops which take me about a minute each because they are so tiny. After the first hour I asked her to finish the pile within ten minutes as she still had the flat to clean. But after spending another hour and a half in our bedroom, bathroom and my son's bathroom (again with very little in it) I told her she only had one hour left to do living/dining room, guest toilet, balcony and kitchen and she snapped saying she cleans every day and she doesn't have time to do it all. Later on I spotted she was still wearing the gloves I gave her to clean the bathroom while dusting the living room and asked her to wear those for cleaning the bathroom only as I don't like the idea of having the same gloves used to clean the toilet bowl to clean the area where we eat and my son plays. Little madam then said that if she can't wear gloves, she will not clean (WTF?!). I stood next to her for the following hour and realised how erratic she is in her carrying of the tasks so was guiding her in how to do it more efficiently. Trust you me, she finished all the remaining jobs well in time - she managed to leave five minutes before she was due. Needless to say, she is not coming back to this house ...

I get quite a few calls from African numbers in the middle of the night. Read somewhere that they just let the phone ring once and wait for you to call back and then the attempt to convince you to send money somewhere starts ... Now I always put the phone on silent when I go to sleep

Thank you Ladies. That is what I thought. They do very well then they arrive and then they just seem to slow down - being first thing in the morning i find it very hard to believe they are that tired, so I think it might be their strategy to make sure they do the very basics so that they can leave on time and don't have to do any extra tasks which I ask them to try and fit in (e.g. ironing & balcony). Your truly fills up the dishwasher before they arrive so all they have to do in the kitchen as far as washing up goes is a couple of pans from the previous night's dinner, wipe all surfaces and clean the floor. I wish I had had the luxury to have had a full 4 hours without being interrupted by a toddler, so am afraid I have nothing to compare against other than me being able to do one of the largest and more 'complex' rooms in 30 minutes to a very high standard (I am a perfectionist unfortunately for some). My son's bedroom takes me five minutes to clean and she does not need to do the study which I clean myself as we keep the more private stuff in there. Think I will now ask her to start with the ironing and then make sure she does not spend longer than needed in each room. Thank you for taking the time to answer.

How much should they be able to do in 4 hours? I have had 2 different ladies so far and they seem to struggle cleaning our flat: 3 bedrooms out of which they only need to clean two (one with just toddler bed and no furniture as it is all built-in or any toys on the way) , two bathrooms, guests toilet, smallish kitchen and living/dining room. Flat is not particularly large and we have the basic furniture and very few trinkets. I would like them to make space for 30-45 min ironing but this seems to be a real challenge!

Ladies, in case you have not read my posts, I do blame my husband ... Just wish there was less dishonest folk out there. And Sakhifa, yes it is dishonesty - by my and many others' standards. This is not a post against dubizzle, it is precisely warning other potential buyers on dubizzle to do their homework before jumping into forking out the cash.

Dusha, had I been there - trust me - I would have walked away. But hubby went alone bc he thought he would need the space in the car for the bed. KH, after having checked a few shops (not BabyShop) and after seeing the prices for toddler beds, AED 400 seemed like a reasonable price for a second-hand one (based on what we had seen, clearly better quality). But my darling hubby who is always in a rush to buy things, just went with what the Arabic lady told him. I would have normally checked what was the brand and the originally paid price, and stop at the shop on the way to this house to double check. I think this is the end if us buying on dubizzle - sorry for all those honest people who are trying to sell things at a reasonable price, but this has put me off completely. As Kelly says, it's barely worth it. I always say that life pays you back at one point or another for everything you do, and I am sure these people will find this too ;)

AnonDubai, girl for us :) Already have a boy and both grandmas wanted a girl the first time around so great news for them when we tell them over the weekend. At 13wks we were told it s 75% girl so can relate to some mums on here that it does not mean very much, but got confirmation through a DNA-based test for abnormalities that can also pick up on the gender :) This week starting to clear away tight-fitting non stretch clothes from my wardrobe so hopefully I can see what clothes I have and avoid those 'nothing to wear' crises :) Elderflower, how old is your first?

We also have a Pearl here and although there is great head support, DS always manages to get his arms out which is hard to monitor when you are driving alone. Also have a Tobi back home that we have been using over the summer and somehow he did not try to slip the arms out.

Amy, this has been the story of a few years now and I really find it quite hard to feel sorry for these people who have lost touch with reality and lived the life of luxury without any boundaries. But what I read from the original post is that this debt could be from their mortgage and in this case, it is something that could possibly happen to anyone. I have always been very wary of any debt, ever since my uni years and have been lucky enough not to be in such situation (and i have never had any debt other than my mortgage) but things like this do make you think and realise that it could also happen to you if you are the 'owner' of property that is still on a mortgage... edited by twin_butterfly on 30/08/2013

As far as I understand, you can't adopt in the UAE. You would need to see if it is possible to adopt elsewhere (your country of origin might be easier), register the child as your son/daughter and then bring them in under your sponsorship.

Humous, why should a doctor (especially a gynae) wear fake nails? Back home all medical staff have to have short unvarnished nails and i am pretty sure this is the same everywhere, so I was super shocked first to hear she was even allowed to wear them, second of what she did with them and third that she had no issues doing this in front of your husband! I don't think you want her have her nails falling off while you are delivering or if she has to perform a c-section. So first I would report her to the medical director of the hospital and secondly, yes DO change doctors. There are plenty of good doctors in Dubai so you may want to see another one while you wait for your appointment with Dr Elsa. My doctor is Dr Jennifer Karsisky at the Welcare Mediclinic in Garhoud who also delivered my first baby and I must say she is one of the most professional doctors I have seen in Dubai but she also has the ability of talking to you 'woman to woman' which is lovely.

Thank you lleeaa for the note re: whooping cough - i had no idea, so will definitely check with my Dr once she is back from her holiday! I hope you are feeling better now? 12-week scan also went really well so I was all smiles when I left the hospital, as I had been very worried. Still debating whether to do further tests as I fall in the high risk segment due to age :( How did you 12-wk scan for star*fish? Hope well too ... Humous, with pregnancy number one I had quite a bit of nausea as well, so was always carrying crackers with me to snack on - that always helped. Oh, before I forget: I seem to have a huge belly already compared to pregnancy number one where I barely showed up to the fourth month. Now I forever look as if I have just had a huge lunch and considering how small the baby still is, just does not seem normal. Has anyone of the other non-new mums also experienced this? Is it bloating or the pregnancy itself? Congrats again to all the mums-to-be on this group! It seems to be going really well for everyone xx edited by twin_butterfly on 12/08/2013
