Might be a dumb question but until what age one can use cloth nappies? Is it ok to use until bub has been potty trained?

There is a party shop opposite LuLu supermarket in Barsha (the one behind MOE). Try there - they had sweets when I went so you may find the sugared almonds there.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at STAY in the One and Only The Palm - I am very critical when it comes to restaurants but this one did impress me. We actually we trying to book at Atmosphere on Burj Khalifa but apparently you need to book a couple of weeks in advance. Happy anniversary in advance :)

If you are looking at doing your Emirates ID, the EIDA in Barsha can also do it and you save yourself the driving around and do everything in the same place. The only downside is that when I went, I had to wait for 2 hours for the typing bit alone!!! Mind you, that was in September when they probably had the big rush with everyone trying to process before the deadline, so maybe things are a bit calmer now.

Hmmm ... Was that over their web page or did you call them? In Europe that could be classed as 'discrimination' edited by twin_butterfly on 23/01/2012

Brilliant - never managed to make it before my trip home for Xmas but now checking for the names of the places again, I am oh so delighted to read someone has seen the actual thing in Global Village and the Persian place in Barsha! Thank you, thank you, thank you DubaiGirl and unsourire! Still wanting to pay a visit to the Antique Museum so you are more than welcome to join Irooni ... Or did you mean join on the drive to Sharjah? ;)

This year Vienna is celebrating Klimt's 150th birthday so there are events and exhibitions planned throughout the city. If you want to just see his main pieces then go to the Belvedere Museum. Also there is the impressive Schoenbrunn Palace, which is where the Imperial Family had their summer residence. Do make sure you pack your baby carrier - Vienna is a city to be enjoyed on foot. The one thing I would probably try and do though is take one of those horse-drawn carriages to absorb the romanticism of the city. And if you do like horses, make sure you visit the Spanish Riding School. As for Salzburg, the obvious is Mozart's house but I am sue you knew that already :) I cannot recommend on Prague as I never visited. Enjoy!!!

Of dear Green-ish ... So so so sorry to read these news :( you told people about your pregnancy because you were excited - that is only normal! Now you have told the people that need to know right now about your loss and anyone else can wait until you are ready. Don't put pressure on yourself to tell anyone else if you are not up to it right now - you don't owe them any explanations. I am not sure if this is going to help but my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 7.5 weeks and I know how painful it is although you never met the little angel. My thoughts are with you - I know that whatever all of us say and write on here cannot take the pain away but still, as you can see we are all with you. Big hugs going your way xxx BTW what a beautiful post, Gatta Matta edited by twin_butterfly on 22/01/2012

If your insurance covers maternity I would just look for a good Dr, the driving is only a minor matter. I also live in Marina area and drove to Garhoud for my check ups - in my mind, well worth it. If you are looking for a very good doctor, Dr Jennifer at Welcare did my emergency CS for DS and I can honestly say I have seen very few doctors take their job more seriously. edited by twin_butterfly on 11/01/2012

Could well be the teething. Our 8.5 month old spent the whole of Xmas not wanting to go to sleep til very late and then would wake up several times at night. By the end of Dec he had 2 teeth and on 3rd Jan his 3rd popped out. Maybe you can try and give her Panadol at sleep time or use Bonjela on the gums.

There is one in MOE (one row in from C4, towards the Babyshop end) and one in Ibn Battuta. Not sure if there are others.

Yes he is and sometimes he pinches the ear too! Was at the paediatrician yesterday for a final follow-up visit on the cold he has just had, and dr did check his ears but said it all looked good. I did mention the head hitting but she did not give it much importance ...

Stopped going to Tips & Toes aaaaaages ago for the same reasons as many already addressed: poor service/attitude including the area manager who, when I complained said: 'we have received an award for the best nail spa and have many happy customers'. Well, unless you are ready to listen to your customers you will never know you have (many) unhappy (now) ex-customers. Moved to NBar around the corner who have fab, professional and properly trained staff and use good quality products. Saying that you go there because it is convenient does not make any sense - if you are not happy, leave. We are in the land where there is a nail bar around every corner.

Antiques Museum might be a good place to look and it's closer to me. Have tried several of the Iranian/Arabic souvenir shops at MOE but nothing there - maybe Souk Al Bahar is worth a try. Failing that I am afraid I might have to drive to Sharjah ... dreading it already! Thanks Ladies!

Agree - Geant is not good for anything fresh whether veg, fruit, meat or fish. Service is appaling too. I swapped to C4 long ago although a bit of a drive for me too + Salik and parking hassle, but it is worth it. Curious to see the Coop in Barsha - is this the same as Union Coop? You mean the Emirates bank lights as in Emirates NBD?

Thanks roseo284 - I was actually reading about RIPE this morning and planning a trip there on Sat :) Only thing is that we want the organic veggies & fruit mainly for our weaning DS so not sure the box will also have what we need for him - checked their website and they do seem to have boxes for kids coming up soon No harm in checking though :)

DS also started weaning 2 weeks ago and last week we tried roasted banana which is what made his bum raw after 3 poos within the same day which got more and more runny. I know doc already suggested what to do but thought I would share what worked for DS last week - lots of air too and I just used talcum powder for the nappy time which worked wonders. edited by twin_butterfly on 02/11/2011

Thanks Nostal. The products that come from Africa, India etc do not have a stamp or any information. As I am using some of these produce to feed DS now that we have started weaning, I would like to know what type of controls these fruits/vegs that come from developing countries have to go through before they are sold here as organic. Hoping someone here might know ...

After a thread on here about chickens in the UAE I tried the chicken at Carrefour and you do taste the difference. Someone also recommended the Al Reghalal which apparently is not frozen - around AED 60 per piece. Where do the chickens in the Organic shop come from? This reminds me a thread I wanted to create a couple of day ago ...

Forgot ... there is a new shop at Times Square called Adventure HQ (or HQ Adventure) as you go in, on your left. They have anything and everything for outdoor activities. Have not noticed ski stuff but probably the most likely place to find it.

you never get to prepare a snack just for yourself or get to eat a whole apple etc When I go into to the kitchen to make myself tea or get a snack the kids always want something too and if they dont ask then they'll want a slice of the apple or whatever I've cut up. I guess when I'm older and they are living away from home, I'll wish they were around to share with me. Never thought about this day yet - when DS leaves home... sniff, sniff ...

Sugarbeach, I am not sure about the sponsorship for you and LO - this will probably depend on how willing his current employer is to keep his visa open. But the bank account should not be closed when his visa is cancelled. My account was never cancelled when I left my employment (full time mum now, so not working). What you have to be careful with though is: when his current company does the full & final payment, if they do a transfer the bank could freeze his account until it is established that he does not owe money - so a solution to this could be paying the last 3 months of rent before he goes to KL, or ask his company for a cheque with the full & final settlement rather than doing a bank transfer. edited by twin_butterfly on 31/10/2011 edited by twin_butterfly on 31/10/2011
