Would be watching this thread closely... never been to exclusively Emirati restaurant...i always wondered what original Emirati food is like... initially i used to think Middle eastern food is something common they shared in the region... but with time I realize Lebanese, Syrian, Irani, Turkish all are different cuisines ... btw which restaurant are you planning to go to? That's exactly me. We are going to try Al Fanar. Me 3 ... i thought it was all the same too ... btw just checked Al Fanar on zomato.. they have 26 reviews with even pics of dishes by reviewers... you will get a good idea from there... I think I will be trying this soon... all this time in UAE and never having tasted their cuisine... sacrilegious... :\:

Aren't all meat items halal in UAE? I was under the impression we were not suppose to watch out for halal labels here as far as meat items were concerned...!

love creek park... so sad to hear about the cable car though... real shame... although we never really go there due to the distance i really liked National park sharjah when i visited there some years back... it has really old old trees, soo beautiful and original.. its like stepping into another world... looks like real woods rather than a man made landscaped park... they had bbq pits all over and we had a lovely bbq, the weather was perfect.. !

permanently delete your FB account, make a new one where you can add your family and friends... out of site out of mind... i am sure it will make their day if they provoke you enough to retaliate openly... dont give them that satisfaction...!!

Thanks Are Mac's easy to use? Get your head around? I dont have one ... but when my laptop broke down for a while and needed one badly one of my friends lend me her Mac... initially i was very nervous about even getting started at it... but by the end of that week (when i had to return it) i felt so forlorn... i got used to it within that time and really missed it for a few days... it is amazing... but the only thing i really operated on it was browsers and Ms Word... and since i worked on an already up and running system i dont know any other intricacies of the system if there are any,...!

Thank you stix and SueB. Great advice :) [b'>I did in fact try this week to go to bed an hour earlier but ahe just wasn't tired. She just stayed in bed awake all until 8 something.[/b'> Anyway I suppose yes it is gradual and I should be a little more patient for results. Thanks again. my DD would do the same if i tried to make her sleep earlier... she is 4 now but even at 3 she would sleep only 10 hours... i couldn't make her sleep longer than that... 10-12 hours sleep is normal for 3 year old... maybe some children are just made for less sleep... if she is looks rested, fresh and stays active i dont think you have anything to worry about... !

DIETS DONT WORK !! CHANGING EATING HABITS AND LIFESTYLE DO. [b'>Agree, that is what 12 hour eating is about, its not a food restricted diet, its a lifestyle change that involves eating your usual foods, preferably healthy balanced meals, in a 12 hour period instead of freely over the day and night.[/b'> In my case it will only involve having my last meal one hour earlier than usual, hardly a diet! edited by Di@DXB on 05/12/2014 Without knowing its been proven by research..it has been my lifestyle since a long time (i instinctively felt its the thing to do.. wow!!)... i have been trying to convince DH to do the same but he wont listen... and i am afraid showing him the scientific proof wont help either... :(

If one can only afford to share in international city (first sharing is the cheap alternative, second sharing as one needs cheaper than the next to nothing rate in international city), then I'd tell my friend not to come here. International City is not an area I would recommend to any friend I care about. Maybe other people have different feedback but the reviews I have heard are as the PP - f[b'>ull of bachelors, lots of home massage service business cards slipping under the door... [/b'> Silicon Oasis would be the best choice. Well priced and in her area. i have heard the same ... someone told me Nakheel is trying to make it family friendly and putting up outdoor play areas around the blocs... and many families have come to the place... also access card system has also been introduced to discourage the 6 in a room bachelor sharing... but i believe it has a long way to go before becoming an ideal place for a single woman to move in to...

Hello ladies I want to start my own business and have lots of ideas. I was just wondering who has their own business on here and what do you do? Also any tips on having a business in Dubai? You need to have really strong nerves, patience, [b'>backup money[/b'>, knowledge of laws & if you are "all in one" entrepreneur, you need to be mentally prepared for tough time for 6-12 months. Dubai is kind of battle field for most of small businesses. Above all, ever changing corporates supporting government polices, and increasing number of your competitors is making business really tough. When I look around, specially some businesses on daily deal sites, I wonder how much more lower they will go....such sites have done a lot damage to business. To offer competitve prices, mostly businesses will deteriorate quality of service/products and how much lower they can go? For example, I can imagine offering a buffet of 100 dhs in 50 dhs, but how do I expect one buffet of 100 dhs in just 20 dhs and still expect same quality? Businesses are for profit, not a free entertainment or charity work....unless you can deal with all these things...you should not jump into business market. So many people lose money, in TRYING to do business.....they come with money to dubai, but leave under debt. Good luck !!!! Totally agree... about the backup money...my brother in law started business about one and a half year back... for the initial year they just paid out of their pocket ... even now the profit doesn't really seem worth it... but they hope to develop their company name well enough to be able to earn a decent profit soon.... so strong nerves and patience is also very important...good luck with your venture.... :) edited by twirl1 on 01/12/2014

might be an idea to check thyroid... I googled a bit ...maybe I should check out with a doc. That's a great idea... all the while reading the thread i was thinking the same thing as I know many really young ppl with this issue... it seems thyroid is a very common problem nowadays... hopefully you don't have it but if you do and you start treating it asap it would be of great help...!

Fairydust is right, your diet is dreadful. Start the day with a small meal to kickstart your digestive system and metabolism, even if it is just a yoghurt and banana your body needs fuel. What is your salad made of? I cant eat lettuce or leaves as it upsets my stomach and makes me bloated, you may have a similar problem. Introduce other raw vegetables and increase your lean protein, the protein will help your body turn fat into fuel. Exercise is a NECESSITY, even if it is a 20 minute walk or a swim you need to increase your heart rate to help burn more calories, as the weather gets better it should be easier to get outside and get moving. You don't need to jog or run but you do need to do something. Agreed... maybe you should let your knee rest for a few days before you start exercising earnestly but than do your best... really there are no short cuts to be fit...

I'm a little surprised that you are surprised - you must know that there are hundreds if not thousands of babies are left to die each day all over the world - just less dramatic circumstances of rescue As for this case - who knows? as the details are unclear - mental health issues and post-partum psychosis can lead people to do very strange things - if the baby is the result of some sort of attack/abuse - I also read that this was a concealed preganancy of a woman from an ultra religious family so perhaps this has some influence Perhaps more countries should have places where people can abandon babies in safety - no questions asked would reduce these cases I am not surprised... i know babies are abandoned all the time all around the world... just could not stop thinking about it due to the drastic circumstances ... but you are right... never thought of the possible reasons you mentioned... just so sad though... especially because now there are chances this baby will never to normal due to the ordeal it suffered...

As most people said.. it all depends on condition... i agree that keeping the cost of moving in mind it is better to pay the hike in rent... unless the difference is drastic... don't foresee any such need in near future but with Dubai you never know...!!

if you're looking for very cheap and friendly (almost disposable) have a look at Day to Day Centre (a discount store with branches in deira, karama, bur dubai, etc.) they sell the more popular board games at 1/10th the price... limited selection though but they always have Monopoly, Ludo, Scrabble, Snakes & Ladders, Chess and UNO edited by HorizonMum2 on 20/11/2014 I was mainly looking for Cludo, Scrabble and Mad Magazine... maybe i can get scrabble from Day to Day Centre at least, if others are only available at expensive places... thanks everyone for the help...this has given me an action route at least... what a lovely forum this is... :D

Not complaining... life is good here materialistically ... but miss home and family.... i guess for expats it can never be a real home as you cant really claim anything as your own... one can move out anytime and that remains a fact at the back of your mind while you go through everyday life...
