POLO have no ladies that are ready for 'release'. They weren't very helpful... said their girls go to an agency when they are ready but she wouldn't give me any agency details... just told me there are hundreds to choose from! Well Im still looking!

My daughter is going into year 7 at DBS in September... ;) she has completed year 6 there and settled really easily! Where are you coming from? I would happily meet for coffee/ grape juice. Just reluctant to put my contact details on here! Hmmm will think of a way around it and get back to you!

Hi I was just wondering if anyone can advise me of housemaid agencies and contact numbers. (the ones on here are not up to date) Having been ripped off big style by one agency if I can call it that... I'm now desperate to find a housemaid or I cant go to work! If anyone knows of anyone looking to transfer housemaid visa please consider me. Lovely UK family with 2 girls :O) :O) [b'>HELP![/b'> x [b'>[/b'>

Hi Ami Not so close to DESS but take a look at Beverley Hills Al Raayan and Ein Khalid Gate, they are both large compounds with apartments, lots of facilities for the children, If you aren't lucky enough to get a DESS place, there are a few schools close to these compounds. Good Luck!

Hi ladies, reading your post with interest.... ive been here nearly 3 months and have just brought my family over on a tourist visa because my family visa was rejected. I work for another government hospital in Doha and was employed on a married contract. There appears to be a big problem with family visa's being issued to women.... apparently women are no longer allowed to sponsor their husbands!!! (This was from the Captain in immigration) For me no visa= no family benefits (education etc) I may even have to go home! If anyone has any experience of this and has overcome it I would love to hear. Im currently making daily trips to immigration to fight my case and hoping they will make an allowance. If I do have to go home I will be seriously out of pocket and seriously disappointed. Im not ready to go home yet!

Hello Everyone! My little girl arrived in Doha a week ago and will be celebrating her 6th birthday next week before the school term starts. Back home in the UK we always made such a fuss, birthday party for classmates etc but here I have no idea what to do! Im presently battling with guilt as I don't want her to feel sad (she probably wont even be bothered, but I am!) because we aren't celebrating her birthday in the way she is used to! I would welcome ANY ideas of nice things to do...... I might even arrange a party for later in the month when she is settled at school so if anyone can think of party venues please let me know. Thank you :O) xx p.S Birthday cake shops?!

I understand beverley hills 10 to be full, not sure about y village but i dont think they will go as low as 13k!! Broker took me to a place called leewan gardens today, seemed a long way out but he assured me it wasnt! Spoke to a UK mum who said there was lots of children.... villa was huge and a good price. Maybe in the next few days I will try bev hills 10 again, see if anyone is leaving.

I was hoping to hear good things because the villa itself was okay, very clean and the compound was much cleaner than some I have viewed! If anyone else could throw a few decent compound names at me i'd be grateful!

Hi everyone, thank you for your helpful replies, I arrived in Qatar on Sunday. What an experience! Nothing is as I had expected with regards to what I had been told prior to arriving! I think that may be commonplace! Finding a villa is proving to be a very daunting experience, I would welcome any recommendations of western compounds near DBS /Al Waab/ aspire zone or anywhere else close by, seriously I dont know where to start! xx The sooner I find a villa, the sooner my babies can come! xx

Regarding assessment, my daughter sat an admission test a few weeks back, here in the UK, the school emailed it over to her current school and they ensured exam conditions!! Current school scanned paper back to Doha same day.... thankfully she met the criteria and this secured the place and she will start in September! I think we were VERY lucky :O) Im not sure if all schools do this but it's worth asking. x

Had success with DBS last week (entrance test results permitting) so hang in there, I was on the verge of giving up. I applied for 4 schools and was told to contact them early June as they were awaiting feedback from existing students who may not require places in September. Good luck!

Thanks Gail, will google Crown now, and call them tomorrow. Did you do your own packing? Im starting to put things in boxes now, but if they need to wrap etc for insurance purposes I wont go crazy with the bubble wrap! I will also definately check out New House complex, sounds good..... but oh so pleased that there is a next/bhs and M&s home dept, however small it may be :O) Thanks again ladies.

Thanks ladies for your advice. We have decided to ship a bit more over than originally intended! ust need to look into shipping companies now... any recommendations (shipping from UK) I suppose it is wishful thinking that Next may have a homeware department..... lol.
