Hi, we will be in a similar situation in that my husband has been made redundant, but may have another job to start right away. We were told that my visa and my daughters visa will have to be cancelled before they can cancel my husbands visa. Could this be why they aren't cancelling your husbands yet and have not told you?

I stayed in Duangjitt resort & spa over Christmas and I highly recommend it. It´s 2 minutes away from Patong beach by foot, they have 3 big pools, they also have a huge garden that makes you forget that you are located in the middle of the busy Patong. Shops, bars and restaurants are all within walking distance from the hotel. We also stayed in the Duangjitt resort and spa last easter and we had a great time, within easy walking distance to patong beach and the night life.

But the photo part on the form, has to be signed by whoever is signing the photos. It's very awkward!!!! I thought, if it was a renewal, and the person hasn't changed much in looks, then the photos don't need to be signed.

I have also seen rotary lines in Carrefour. I put all of my washing out on the line, normally dry within three - four hours.

Only thing that works for us is as soon as they are home they sit at the table with snack and homework. Nothing happens until it's done. No playing with toys, tv, park, swim etc Some people have a little down time first but that just prolongs the agony in our house. After a while kids just do it automatically and it's like a habit now. Zoom through it so they are free for the rest of the day. That's exactly what i do, home, homework, food or sometimes if her dinner is ready, i'll let her have that and then straight back to homework, once its done, its done, then the rest of the time is hers. She is 11, so it has taken some time to get her to this.

I just joined this forum as me and my husband most certainly will have to relocate to Dubai during next year. I read this thread as we want to be able to save money and my question is if you think we are able to do so with a total yearly salary of approx. 530.000 Dirham(that is the total with basic salary, housing- and car allowance). The company will also pay our health insurances and 1 yearly trip home. As we now live in Switzerland I assume that the daily costs will be less than here as food and services are extremly pricy in CH. I think it will be possible, our annual salary is less than that, have one child (so school fees), do not get housing but do get medical insurance and flight for my husband back to the uk each year and I do not work and we manage to save around 40% of wages. Admittedly, we have been here two years now and started saving that much this year.

Do they actually check the meters every month, or do they just decide an average for the property type and area? My consumption hasn't altered at all over the last 2 months, yet the two bills are different by hundreds of dirhams. It would also explain why my bill for the month when we were away on hol for 3 weeks was the highest of the year, despite obviously using no elec or water during that time... Any other experiences would be appreciated, thanks :) Hi, DEWA do check our meters every month around the 20/21st of the month, but I try to remember to check mine every day as we have had problems in the past with the bills. I have a spreadsheet that I put my readings onto, this helps to keep an eye on how much its going to cost each month and also I can see if the usage goes up drastically, I can look to see if I can find any problems before they get too bad.

Hi, when i was about 13/14, I started to get migranes. The doctor did prescribe tablets, but they didn't really work that well. With me it was a case of certain foods triggered it, cheese, chocolate, ice-cream, oranges, tomato puree - what i found though, was that chocolate was the worse, within 20 min of eating chocolate, my eyes would start to go funny (could only see half of everything) and then I would be holed up in a dark room for 24 - 48 hours whilst also vomitting. With the other foods it took a build up over time before I would have a migrane. I no longer eat chocolate (haven't since I was 14 when I realised). I eat all the other foods now, do still sometimes get migranes but not half as severe (well not even 1/4 severe), my eyes just go funny now (but only for about an hour), and have a really bad headache for a few hours, but can carry on as normal. I do think a food diary would be a really good idea to see if it is food that triggers them, also, I've heard that not drinking enough water can add to a migrane coming on. I'm now 45. Valerie

Sorry to gate crash your thread. Can you fly straight in to Phuket from here or do all the airlines just go to Bangkok ? Then transfer. crash as much as u want :) your questions are mine probably.. also no u cant go direct! You can go direct from Abu Dhabi, we are doing this at Easter ;) I looked at etihad from AD they were also going Bangkok first? What airlines are u travelling? Ta it's 'Etihad Airways 1996 Operated By: AIR BERLIN GMBH / CO. LUFTVERKEHRS KG' (I just copied and pasted it from my travel confirmation). The flight takes 6hrs 50 mins. I was quite surprised that they go there direct.

I had that when I moved into my villa, and got in touch with DEWA, they told me that they pro-rata it as it doesn't cover a whole month. so for example two weeks, the top of the slab would be 1000 rather than 2000, so after 1000 it would go to the next slab rate. Hope this makes sense.

My oldest daughter used to be like this, no matter what I did, she was so sore. Years later, I found out that in babies, tonsilitis can sometimes cause this. If you go back to the doctor, get them to check her throat to rule this out. I ended up using the towelling nappies, bathing her almost everytime when I changed her, just a quick dip in a bath of water and just took the nappy off whenever I could and laid her on the floor on a blanket/towel. I found it heartbreaking to here her cry, because it was the sort of cry that you know that they are hurting. Good luck and I hope you find a solution .

Is this the crossing that is near the car park, if so it is horrible. I have been on the crossing where a car has stopped to let me cross and so has started crossing as there wasn't a car coming the other way and you get half way, a car comes and doesn't bother stopping. I have also seen it happen to a lot of others too.

There is usually a tap on the meter that you can turn the water off that comes into the house, I've used this lots of times!!

Vat - I lived in Dalston - off Queensland Road - we had security bars on the windows and it was scary when there was a football match on! If I ran out of milk after dark, I would definitely think twice about walking to the shops on my own. Black tea for breakfast was preferable. But I loved the Brick Lane scene - used to go the Flower Market almost every Sunday. And those bagels.. mmmmm! Chickchick, I lived off of Mare Street, (Brenthouse Road) not far from Well Street and Morning Lane. I think I used to work in a hairdressers in Queensland Road, Charlie's Angels. Its a small world isn't it :-)

For me, I will eventually go back to the UK because that is where I'm from, but hopefully that won't be for a long time as I really enjoy living here at the moment, and at this moment in time, Dubai is my home. On a different note, Chickchick, whereabouts in Hackney did you come from. I lived in Hackney for most of my life :-), and have to agree with you, you do feel safer over here, that why Qater had such and appeal for me also, I just felt so safe, for the first time in years!!!

We originally moved out to Qatar, it wasn't all for the money, although that did have some bearing, we wanted a change, something different. Then, in Qater, after a year, my husband was made redundant and Dubai was where he happened to get a job next, so we came to Dubai.

Yes we've done that too. Our kitchen is dotted with white powder everywhere. In fact, we've placed it in some corners of the living room too but like you say, they seems to always find another way in! At least i'm not alone but still don't know if pest control could get rid of the problem. do you think it's worth looking for a 'nest'?? I also tried these gel things that the ants are supposed to like, take the gel stuff back to the nest and its supposed to kill the queen, can't see that it has helped much though!! I've tried looking for nests and there seem to be so many of them that you get one then another will spring up in its place!!!

[b'>Can you see where they are getting in? If so sprinkle talcum powder as they won't cross over it-simple but it works and is harmless to pets etc [/b'> We use the powder that kills ants as we have no pets, but will maybe get talcum powder next time if it works just as well :-)

We live in Al Barsha 2 and have problems with ants, very similar to you especially the kitchen, now matter how many times you wash the surfaces down, they are there. I have tried to find out where they are coming form and put powder on the holes, this does help slightly but they seem to find other places to come in. at the moment all parts of my kitchen are dotted with powder!!

Oh don't get me started on DEWA bill, we have been trying since last Sept (2010) to get our bill sorted out. They had the wrong address for us, the wrong meter numbers, and even we managed to get the electric meter the to the righ number, they still managed to take the wrong meter reading!! I have take the meter readings since about nov and have managed to work out what my bill should cost using excell, which would usually come to something like just over 1000 per month and they send bill for about 9000 per month, although the last one was for 29000. Needless the say we haven't paid them!! We are in 4 bed villa with just my husband, myself and our daughter. we have been to the dewa office numerous times and they still manage to get everything wrong!!!

Our contract runs out end of August, it is a four bedroom plus maids room, so technically a 5 bedroom. I really like the house, very big, lots of space but as there are only 3 of us, just a little bit big!!

Hi, we live in Al Barsha 2, about 5 mins drive away from MOE. We are out of all the traffic but close enough to get to the shops easily. We are quite central to everything, 20 mins from husbands work (he works in JLT) and 20 mins from daughers school, she goes to school in Al Safa. I quite enjoy living here. Although, saying that we are looking to move as the villa we have is too big (was trying to persuade my other children to come out here and live with us, but they prefer to stay in the UK). Hope this helps.
