What a great thread. Lulu hypermarket has a small selection of goodies (incl. chocolate) from the UK and the US. Both Lulu and Geant stock [i'>some[/i'> Iceland frozen products. You never know what you might find if you have a look around. Recently I've found Glebe Farm gluten free oats and cassava chips at Geant; Stonewall Kitchen Roast Garlic Bread Spread at Al Madina and Virginity Soap (!) at Swiss Mart, Wasl Square ;)

Hi OP, I've been 'no poo' for about 2 years now and doubt I would never switch back. I addition to the basic instructions which can be found on the link you posted, I followed a few other blogs and looked at comments and forums. I currently 'wash' my hair every 4-5 days and use the ACV rinse ever other wash. Every wash, I massage my scalp with a few drops of essential oil (usually rosemary, lavender or tea tree). I also do an oil treatment once every couple of weeks and use the LUSH henna. It would be difficult to say whether it is any one of the above that has made the difference but I [i'>can[/i'> say that my hair is in better condition and stronger than it used to be. Last time I went for a haircut, the hairdresser used a lot of products (despite my protests-should have been paying attention) although I had explained to her that I prefer as natural as possible. My hair felt horribly sticky for the rest of the day and I developed a rash behind my ears and on my neck. I am hoping to find a hairdresser who is more accommodating in future but I've yet to find someone who i doesn't try to sell their wares! Sounds like I spend a lot of time on my hair but I really don't...I have the bottles ready in the shower-as your link lady suggested. Saves money to boot! :rainbow: edited by veganprincess on 12/03/2015

Resurrecting an old post as I'm on the lookout for these now-kitchen is a tad pokey and could do with an extra usable work surface. I'd prefer this sort of thing:http://www.hobcover.co.uk/products.php but covers for the individual hobs might do for now. Anyone seen either product recently? TIA! :rainbow:

Hello. Has anyone done a visa trip recently? Unfortunately I have to do another one in the next few days. I've used GoTours for the past few trips and that has certainly made things easier. I've just spotted this: http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_how_to_Apply_for_visit_visa_5449.aspx and as I'm a few days into the grace period, I wondered if anyone knew whether or not they have withdrawn this extension. This page: http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_faqs_Hatta_Oman_Visa_Run_10396.aspx suggests not. TIA!

harrimayne1965, I am sorry to hear our recent experiences ring true with yours. Despite it all, I hope you can find pockets of happiness and joy in the midst of the challenges. Thank you for sharing. It may sound strange but sometimes it helps to learn one isn't alone. I hope that viable options present themselves to us at the right time. Onward and upward. :sun:

Lovely reply Tattie Bogle. We've had a horrible week so forgive me if my post doesn't live up to my username! Hopefully, I'll be back to my 'rainbows and unicorns' self tomorrow! After approximately 15 years here, we feel quite 'broken' by the current state of affairs. To start with, we have to move again and the process has been a nightmare-agents that never reply to calls or texts and make us wonder what they get paid for. Online property ads not updated or containing incorrect information. And I don't even want to get started on the hikes in rent: 95 thousand for 300 sq. feet????? To quote TV's [i'>Miranda[/i'>, "Even the notion!" Apologies for my w'end rant. We generally believe that the spirit of gratitude does wonders and we do count our blessings in many ways. It just seems like we're 'stuck' here for the foreseeable future when we would dearly love to be able to return to Europe. Where once we could reassure family and friends in the UK that we would be closer to home one day soon, we're not saving any money these days and have had to place such things as basic dental treatment much further down the list of priorities than we would like. We can't afford to have children here. My inlaws were here in the 70's and the difference between their standard of living then and ours now, is incredible. With the increasing difficulty in terms of getting from A to B we are struggling to find the light at the end of the tunnel. Yesterday we went to look at properties in Bur Dubai. It wouldn't be our preferred area-we lived there for 8 years when we first arrived, but DH works on SZR close to WTC and we are determined to minimise his commuting time. I was shocked to see the amount of construction and destruction that had taken place and so many of these new residential buildings looked small and ugly. The air was thick with dust and the traffic was horrendous. DH is owed a great deal of money from his last employer and this not the first time we have found ourselves in this predicament-it took 2 years and a court case to fight for the last lot. As I said earlier, no doubt I'll be ready to take on the world again soon but to refer back to the OP, 'new' Dubai isn't really working out for us so far - we much preferred things how they were and will miss the parts of Dubai that seem to be rapidly disappearing.

http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic123501-sayings-you-cant-stand.aspx?Page=2 The word 'riddled' always makes me feel slightly queasy! I agree with Sandfly. I am an English teacher and have also done some freelance writing, editing etc so naturally my work requires that I teach Standard English and proper grammar. However, language is a constantly evolving, unique human experience. 'Your good name' is intended to mark respect. I am currently attempting to learn Dutch and hope to be fluent one day but time constraints (plus advancing years) have meant that I am struggling to build momentum. We consider ourselves lucky that English is widely spoken or even attempted by so many non-native speakers. I had a very different experience in Japan and just about got by with a smattering of Japanese and the many linguistic joys of the hybrid Japlish! Steven Pinker makes some interesting points about language and grammar here: http://www.newrepublic.com/article/77732/grammar-puss-steven-pinker-language-william-safire edited by veganprincess on 20/11/2014

Just in case anyone else is interested in Al Maskan 2, Jafliya, they no longer accepts pets and are giving existing tenants with pets notice.. We lived there for 2 and a half years and were hoping to return but found out yesterday (10 days before we were due to move back) the new ruling on pets.

Di@DXB and Beebers, thankyou ladies for your replies. DH went + sorted it today...shame they only count the last visa run as 30 days ( I had availed of the 10-day grace) and so the extension isn't really that long. We were due to move in 10 days but have just been told that the building we were to return to no longer accepts pets and is giving existing tenants with pets notice...SIGH..it all happens at once! Still, I'm covered for a few more days! :\: edited by veganprincess on 13/11/2014

Can anyone advise the best way to sell a complete kitchen? Basically, my MIL has returned to the UK and we are organising her freight and selling some items. The villa where she was living is to be demolished to make way for the new canal project. When she moved in a few years ago, the existing kitchen was in no fit state to use and subsequently she installed a new kitchen at great expense. Not sure if anyone has any experience of trying to sell this sort of thing. There are a few ads on Dubizzle. The units and counters are in excellent condition. Anyone who is interested would have to arrange dismantling and removal. TIA! edited by veganprincess on 19/10/2014 edited by veganprincess on 19/10/2014 edited by veganprincess on 19/10/2014

Hello Tazz911! Sorry I have only just seen your post. Thanks for thinking of me! We're in the middle of packing (for a move) and organising a freight for a relative so I don't have a great deal of free time at the moment. Could you tell me how long the document is? Would you say that the paper basically needs proof reading with a small amount of editing? Looking forward to hearing from you...if I can't help then there are a few other people I can ask. Have a great day! :)

Hi there, Pretty Paper Studio (online store that delivers) is much cheaper than Paperlane and has a good range of washi tape. I've also bought some at Daiso and Muji. I would imagine it's available here though I haven't checked: http://www.culturecodubai.net/ Hope you find what you're looking for.
