Discovered Balance cafe yesterday (up on 3rd floor near Fitness First). They have a menu based on Ayurvedic principles and clearly labelled items which cater for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free etc. the food was delish, service was great and prices are not too bad....it was such a relief as I had thought my friend and I would have to get something from the food court. Yoga/massage centre opening upstairs also and WH Smiths on its way (ground floor) so may have to head back there soon to blow the budget on maggies!;)

Have great memories of both L'pool and Chester...love Chester at Xmas...tried to get a glass of mulled wine at Alexander's jazz bar last summer but they thought I was mad! So many changes to both places last time I was there..loved the Hoole canal area with the wine bars and new accomo in Chester. Was more of a Love's gal than a Rosie's myself but remember the queues for both. Saw L'pool One last year and the new Bluecoat Chambers...didn't have nearly long enough there but made it t my all time fave-the Everyman Bistro... Great thread...don't have to feel so homesick on my own!

So popular it can be hard to get a table in A D so I hope it's got plenty of seating. Yummy rustic style food, something for everyone. Some fresh products, deli, kitchenware, teas, chutneys etc, a fromagerie, fresh juices and a sandwich bar with delicious breads, soya milk available (at least in A D). Can't wait for it to open! ;)

Just been grocery shopping. Walked past the back entrance of Sys. Pallets of yoghurt, sour cream etc unloaded...walked past 45 minutes later..[u'>same [/u'>pallets still sitting there, baking in the sun. :\: I am begining to wonder about people saying they are having problems with food.I have lived a very long time in this part of the world and have not had any problems with supermarkets and if concerned about an item that is visibling not looking ok I don't purchase it. I wonder too. I've lived in various parts of UAE for the past 15 years and shopped from different supermarkets. We have a fairly balanced diet and buy veggies, meat [fresh and processed'>, seafood, cheese and dairy. And I've only had a problem with the food ONCE. A lot of the issues that people are recounting could have been prevented if they checked the production dates [as opposed to the expiration dates'> of the packaged foods [i'>and[/i'> visually assessed the physical appearance of the fresh food. I do check the production dates on everything I buy, I'm meticulous about it, but in my case, you can't open a pot of sour cream in the middle of the supermarket to check if it's off or not. I do look at the packaging to see if it's blown, I shake it to see if it sounds ok, but without actually opening it in the shop how do I know? And if the expiration date hasn't passed, and indeed is into the future, why shouldn't I expect it to be edible? Cream (sour and otherwise) is my only example, everything else I've had has seemed to be fine. But maybe that's because I'm the crazy woman in the fresh aisles assessing every packet of meat before I buy it.

crystalsindubai replied : Also available at Elves and Fairies in the Jumeirah Center, 1st floor. They also have plenty of stamps, stencils and other materials for card-making. Elves and Fairies closing down soon so on the negative you may have to get there asap but on the positive-massive discounts. Try Dubai Library Distributors on SZR also for some great colours. Borders/Paperchase at MOE have a great range. Art Stop is having a massive sale at the moment too!

just found this thread roflmao at "britishers" can't wait to tell DH that one! As for "Tell me" I don't really get my panties in a twist when non-native english speakers say something I find odd. Maybe they are translating literally. In Miami, a lot of spanish speakers answer the phone "dime" which means tell me so I can see where this could happen - I am more impressed that others are making the effort to speak english in the first place ;) So glad to read your post ccdoha.....I lived in Japan for a couple of years and was blessed that no one really laughed or rolled their eyes at some of the RIDICULOUS things I was saying! ;)

when you wash it try keeping it in sun for some time. I always find that washing the board in a paste of white vinegar & bicarb of soda first works really well. :)

Well said Blue Skies. I have nothing against people having a good time and was there with a large group of friends myself-it's the Rugby 7's type behaviour which resulted in beer sloshed in my face and a trampled on foot that leave me cold but am not going to let that detract from Stevie's magnificence!

Enjoyed Stevie .... so much talent and joy but got fedup of being trampled on by people who couldn't care less whether or not there was someone on the stage and were just wandering around aimlessly...often drunk and aggressive or constantly taking photographs of themselves and their overdressed friends in various inane poses or talking on their mobiles loudly...seems like enjoying the present moment is difficult for some! PS SORRY to whine...often frustrated by the crowds at these events...of course I'm PERFECT!;)

There is an art fair on there at the moment which hasn't been promoted particularly well....apparently some amazing spaces to look at and you can wander in and out of several wind towers/houses...It isn't the Bastakiya Art Fair of previous years but is worth visiting all the same and apparently there is live music in the evenings. XVA is a must (as is Basta)and they have a fantastic menu and a lovely seating area too!

Hey Nobbles! I have seen all of series 1 and am desperately looking for a copy of season 2 with decent English subtitles...yes, I am addicted! :\: ENJOY...it is truely brilliant and such an antidote to all the shows featuring preened and manicured 'actors'...! Have you checked out the fantastic Forbrydelsen blog on the Guardian website?

There was a kiosk at Deira City Centre (somewhere on the ground floor, near the main entrance) where they could make stamps and cut keys etc...no idea if it's still there. You can buy rubber pads which you can use to make stamps at Daiso, if you need an alternative solution!

Mrs Laughan replied : So is lush only available at Mercato There's only one other store here in Dubai and that's at Deira City centre opposite Virgin Megastore. Items are cheaper in the UK and in my opinion, the stores here don't seem to have understood the ethos behind the products and there is little of the vibe that I have experienced in Europe. On one of my visits to the Deira store, the shop assistant was smoking behind the counter! :\: edited by veganprincess on 05/02/2011

I originally got Joseph's details from this forum but he has been in India for several months so some of you may not be aware of him or may have been trying to get hold of him. Basically, Joseph is an excellent taxi driver who is happy to do visa runs. He used to live in Oman and is familiar with every step of the process. He speaks good English and is punctual. If you are stressed about doing a border run, do call him on 050 676 1218 and he will help you through every step. He charges 550 dirhams so it is good if you can get a couple of others to share, now that the price in Oman has gone up to 200!
