With regard to your car seat you could take it on board - put it in the overhead locker or if there is a spare seat you can place it on that (I was lucky the flight was empty) check in on line 24 hours prior to flight to ensure you get the bassinet seat as there are sometimes over 20 babies on board!! and check your seat - this will also make checkin smoother! With regards to using the bassinet your baby will have to come out during turbulance and when the seat belt sign comes on but it is very handy! I was travelling alone, so had my hands full - used a front carrier for my son and carried the car seat, using trolley's where available. If you take say 4 bottles you take on prepared for take off and during boarding get one of the lovely crew to fill the others with boiling water, these will then be cooled for when you want to use them, they will also warm them up - don't suggest using bottled water as these are quite high in sodium. The crew will also clean these for you or give you the facilities to do so. And use the pre messured tubs or just take a new tub of formula as you will need it at the other end!!! Re your pram - if you have a pram bag then I would check it in (these are not weighed so excellent for the odd item which won't fit in you suit case!! :) There are guys to help with your bags at 20 dhs per trolley you may find this worth while if travelling alone! (this is only for your bags from car to check in or from baggage claim to your car.

I am still BF and Bottle Feeding - started bottle first with EBM but introduced Formula as he did not thrive - since 2 weeks bottle and 4 weeks formula - but DS won't take a dummy or suck his fingers! He was very sucky and I gave in and ended up buying every different style and size of pacifier - he would just spit them out!!! :) We've never had a problem with confusion. But each baby is different - Do what you feel is best for you and baby and try not to feel guilty if you choose a Pacifier - baby may not like it! edited by vixster on 16/06/2011

What we did is supply welcome champange, wine, beer and toasting champange and soft drinks - spirts were available if guests wanted to purchase them! :) Would like to add that we had over £500 behind the bar so no-one paid for anything - that was for our English wedding - 120 guests all day event - champange welcome drinks - free flowing for 2 hours, wine, beer and champange for the main meal and toast and a bar (with cash behind it) for the evening receiption (my parents paid) - for our Dubai wedding we had Wine, Beer and soft drinks free flowing for 4 hours as we were only having a short receiption - it is not cheap - IMHO - we paid 40,000 for a 4 hour receiption in dubai for our friends - if they want vodka or Jack - they can BTO! This was with 30 guests with canapes! (OH paid for this) I would like to think that no one who i invited to my wedding would think that I was "CHEAP" because they had to pay for Vodka, Gin etc, i have never been offended at a cash bar - its an honor that you "friend" has invited you - and as a friend one should appreciate their financial situation and not judge them by it! edited by vixster on 16/06/2011

Try Boiled water with a teaspoon of fresh Orange Juice (no pulp!) should get things moving - if you google it you will see that it seems quite successful! :)

It depends on time of day - 40-50 mins no traffic - I do it regularly! There are many many families here - depends on the age of children and what apt you are looking at - the 2 beds rentable from nakheel are very big, some with maid/storage and a laundry room. Med and Zen are the biggest 1 and studio apts. It has got a lot better recently - my husband bought and we now have a lo - in a one bed - its 1200sqft so we cope! There are lots of playgrounds, lots of children running around, lovely grassed areas and wonderful swimming pools (without water! - still). Its lovely to walk around with lo in the pram - birds singing in the morning and evening. Hope this helps. :)

Ok - will you try one last thing??? Do you have: Mop? Dishwasher tabs/washing powder Bolided water Marigolds bag (to put the mop head in) Remove as much water as posse (if you can) pop two dishwasher tabs down the loo, washing powder should work - then boiling water (I used 2 kettles worth) leave for about 20 mins - longer the better - than use the mop as you would a plunger - plunge away and (hopefully) within seconds - an unblocked loo!! Chuck out the mop head! I was on the verge a few weeks ago of being mortally embarrassed by having to get a plumber - tried everything - this worked (got it off the internet!) Good luck! edited by vixster on 28/04/2011

Thanks Kermi - Will get the card! Lucy - not at all - helps with the budgeting (if only we had known!!!) the LO insurance is just shy of 4000dhs - Shocking hey! - but my premium is rated so not sure if that is high or normal - best get a quote! :) Its been an expensive year! FYI when doing claims for LO make sure you fill in the claim form correctly as they are not paying one set of DR's fees - 500dhs as it was on the same day as Vacs and it is not stipulated that Dr was to check baby not give Vacs - I am not impressed! but ho hum! Good luck with everything!

Re Insureance - Child does need to be on Adults - so you need to weigh up costs - do you or husband have insurance - if so add child on which ever policy you want - if they cover vacs will only be to 500dhs (depending on policy and company) I am with AXA regional 1 (we plan to have a baby again within 2 years and I didn't have insurance) and my lo is on mine (silly error as DH doesn't have ins and we could have done LO and DH together and be cheaper - RG1 covers 500dhs per year vacs - as the first lot cost 1100+ and 500dhs dr fee! - still arguing about claim as they only paid 500 for vacs and not the 500 drs fee (400 as -100dhs excess)! I also have a health card so could someone please explain? can I get LO vacs free with that? what is the process? x edited by vixster on 21/04/2011

re; formula Newborn babies may take quite small amounts of infant formula to start with. However, by the end of their first week, most will need approximately 150 to 200ml per kg of the baby’s weight per day until they are six months old. This amount will vary from baby to baby. taken from http://www.nhs.uk/Planners/birthtofive/Pages/formula-feeding-information.aspx Hope that helps! :) Similac is what I use, recommend by the hospital - I combination feed - I tried a few others when I felt that lo was getting wind and he ended up with constipation so back on the similac just use a smaller teat with an advent bottle and a happy baby! - MAM are meant to be very good for colic/wind. Just remember your lo may be out of sorts afterwards as his tummy will not be used to it! :) edited by vixster on 15/04/2011

Can I suggest the following - Hire a professional grade pump before buying one - I have the details of Suzi - who is lovely, I hired one of her for a few weeks - its 60dhs per week with a 2000dhs refundable deposit! I only say this because you don't know if you will get on with pumping or not and they are expensive - so if you only need to pump to increase your supply that I think this would be the most cost effective option - you could hire for a few weeks then buy your own once everything is going well :) let me know if you want her details!

I have my little one in the middle with a mirror so I can see him in the Rear view mirror - apparently it is recommended the safest as lots of cars now have side airbags in the rear! I am also using a family fix maxi-cosi base for extra safety. :)

I have just read about adding a teaspoon of fresh smooth orange juice with water (boiled) and that is meant to assist in getting things moving - it seems that some dr.'s and HV are recommending it in the UK. That or Sugared water - half a teaspoon of sugar in 120ml of water! :)

Had my baby there in January - All baby items were supplied I bought everything ie nappies etc but never used them - you can bring your own baby clothes and perhaps a few large fluffy towels for you! :) The less you bring the less you have to take home!

Congratulations, as you said Dr Elsa is wonderful - I would like to add that I think the staffing issues depends on how many deliveries happen that day - I was there for 5 days, they had 4/5 the first day and 10 the next (plus all the ladies in already) the following day they only had 2 deliveries (I think) etc... I did notice an absence of the nurses on the second day - all of whom popped in to visit me prior to their shift ending to apologise and see if they could help me with anything. I think that most hospitals would struggle with double the normal amount of births and understand that there is just no controlling when a baby decides to come! Again Congratulations on you LO!
