Hi ladies, just got round to having another look on the Feb board. Glad to see everything is going well so far with you all. I just had my 20 week scan recently and all seems well, so that's always a relief. I had been referred by Dr Britt to Genesis for the scan, but after realising my insurance doesnt include Genesis, I decided to go with City Hospital for the scan as I have direct billing there & my friend had had her scan there recently with no issues. Big blue, thanks for your info about the scan, I also was sceptical wondering why the City Hospital doctors prefer to refer the patients to Genesis, so I decided to keep my appointment at Genesis as a back up incase I wasn't happy with the City scan. However, I am pleased to advise that the City scan was great, the doctor doing the scan was very professional & was EXTREMELY thorough, good equipment and there was nothing she didn't measure/check & I got a Cd with all the images and 4D also. I don't know what else I could have gained from a scan to be honest, the main reason for the scan is for them to thoroughly check the baby & that was definitely achieved. I had my sons scan in the UK and I can tell you that City was way better than the NHS scans. I would definitely recommend City for the anatomy scans. I ended up cancelling my Genesis scan as there was really no need. I havent made it to any coffee mornings yet, Just don't seem to have the time at the moment, always running from one thing to the next! I think the only one I could go to is Dubai Mall at 10 am as I need to be back to pick my son from school. Sparkly - I can totally sympathise with you, I have been feeling rubbish this pregnancy & slowly starting to feel better. Gaining weight rapidly, 4 kgs in past 4 weeks so I may need to do the gestational diabetes test earlier than planned. Nothing seems to agree with me, I am having stomach issues, bloated, feel sick, or just feel generally unwell. I'm slowly realising I cannot eat out at all as it makes me worse and certain foods are not agreeing with me. A diet of toast & eggs & toasted cheese & tomato are my lifelines at the minute. I started a pregnancy exercise class last month, it's circuits, really enjoy it. Guess I just need to feel that I am doing something to curb the huge weight gain as I don't want to be unhealthy. I will probably start yoga or Pilates also soon. Are there any crafters in the group? Just bought a sewing machine and going to tackle making a nursing cover soon, got some lovely light fabric and some great tutorials on Pinterest.

Congrats to all on the upcoming Feb babies! Tootypy, I agree with Coffee Mates great advice as well. I am with Dr Britt, and after my first appointment last week, I am very confident I made the right choice. The appointment was quick as she had a baby to deliver but I could tell from the get-go that she is definitely the right doctor for me. I went back to the UK last time to have my son and was a bit wary on delivering here to be honest, but I am very at ease with it all now after selecting the right doctor and hospital. I did initially want to go to Al Zahra mainly because they have a pool to labour in that sounds great & more midwife led, but my insurance doesn't cover it & non reimbursable out of network. If you aren't restricted by insurance then I would definitely consider choosing either City or Al Zahra, both seem to be popular with western expats and meet with our UK type expectations (or even better). Norts, I know someone with Dr Ibrahim and she is very happy with him. Oh your so lucky you escaped the morning sickness! Thank god we are all getting over that stage though and progressing on to the next. So ladies, I guess the next milestone for us is the 20 wk scan. Where are you all booked in? I got a referral for Dr George but realised after making my appointment that my insurance doesn't cover his clinic, so I asked to be referred within City instead. Not sure why the doctors at City seem to prefer their patients to go to Dr George for the scan. I am sure he is great, but I don't see the point to pay out of pocket when I can get what I need from within City and have it fully covered. Do you all know what you are having? or is anyone keeping it a surprise? The Dr is pretty sure this one is a girl but it was a very quick scan last week as she was in a rush so we need to have it reconfirmed at the 20 wk scan. However, I am 99.9% sure it is a girl as I saw my sons scan at this stage and it was glaringly obvious that he was a boy, this time there was a major lack of boy parts!

Hi! I was in same situation as you 1 & half years ago. My son had just turned 2 and was babbling but not saying a single word, I started to realise it when other kids his age were super talkers. With him being my first child, I went into panic mode & started to worry about what may be wrong with him. Of course, Google made me even more paranoid even though he wasn't showing any other suspicious symptoms. I went to an appointment at a a hospital to start the process of having his hearing checked, in the waiting room I happened to get chatting to a speech therapist. She had overheard me say he wasn't talking yet and was very quick to advise that she had been watching him for 10 mins & it was very clear that there was nothing actually wrong with him, more than likely a typical boy. I then scheduled an appointment at her centre, there was a waiting list but I did get called back within 1 month. She said he was a little young for a proper assessment so instead just basically taught us (the parents) how to help him more. She really gave us great tools to encourage talking & we continued weekly appointments with her for a few months. She was certain that he would be talking in no time. I also started him at nursery as heard that can help. Sure enough, after a few months, he started speaking, not clearly, but speaking. He was progressing with each day, so I didn't continue with the speech therapy. Fast forward 1 year and he has now completely caught up to kids his age, it is amazing to see the difference, 1 year ago I couldn't imagine him talking like he is now. So, for us, I guess it probably was a case of 'boys will be boys' and it turned out my husband had same issue as a child....hopefully it will be the same reason for your son also. The centre is Kalimati near Uptown Mirdif area and the therapists name was Catherine. I am sure the cost was between 350-450 dhs, can't remember exactly. Since we only continued with the speech therapy on & off for a few months, it really didn't cost that much in the end. Sorry, can't give you advise on an actual early intervention centre though. Most places prefer you to get hearing checked as a starting point, even if you think their hearing is fine, sometimes something can be off balance. My son did have enlarged adenoids, but not so enlarged that he needed urgent surgery, this may also have affected his hearing when he had a cold for example as they became more enlarged then. Good luck!

Thanks for the info coffee mate, that's really good to know. I thought she was on leave now as couldn't get my 1st appointment until start Sept even though I booked it last month. Are you happy with Dr Britt? I am sure once I got over the initial weirdness of a male doctor I'd be fine, main thing is that you feel you have a good doctor I guess, that's all that matters. Not used to a doctor led pregnancy/birth at all as I only saw a midwife for my first child and even all the way through to the delivery I never saw a doctor once until being discharged from the hospital, so even the doctor concept is strange to me, feel like it's all new to me even though I already had a baby lol. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and hope you have a smooth birth!

Congrats to you too! I have an appointment with Dr Britt Clausson at City once I'm back in Dubai. Wasn't sure what doctor to go for so just took an appointment with whoever was available, but City does seem the best option. Although, someone mentioned that Dr Britt may be going on leave in Jan sometime and I think she recommends Dr George in case she is not there. I still feel bit strange about a male doctor though, I know it's silly and I definitely won't care on the big day anyway, but I would rather have female doctor. I'm with you on the nausea and indigestion, also dealing with a horrible taste after I eat, brushing my teeth a lot these days! I'm struggling a bit with this pregnancy compared to my first. I have gained a lot of weight, but I was slightly below my average weight to start with, I'm not overly happy about such a weight gain so early on but I don't feel it's something to worry about too much as I'm sure it will even out. I am showing way earlier compared to my first and I also am having some stomach issues. However, trying not to moan too much, I knew what I signed up for this time! Did you do any sort of NT tests or the blood tests? I am in the UK at the min so I done the combined blood test and scan, waiting on the results coming out in the post, but if I was in Dubai I would have done the other blood tests that can detect the baby's cells and even tell you the gender as those seem more accurate, but they don't offer them in UK. Are you finding out gender? I am desperately waiting till my appointment at City to find out. I am planning a big clean out/refurb as soon as I get home to Dubai and if this baby is a girl then I have a ton of boy things I need to get rid of ASAP so I can make space for the new stuff! Maybe it's because I am not working at the moment, but I just feel a major need to be super organised!!
