You could try al asalla spa at Dubai Ladies Club--it was great (however, I haven't had a hammam there in a couple of years, so not sure what it is like now!). Enjoy!

I'm just gonna put it out there. We don't have the hoses at home. I'm loving them; I think they're great. But what's the proper procedure? Are you supposed to spray from the back or through the front and in between your legs? I didn't grow up with them, so no one has ever taught me. I also clearly am not going to ask my co-workers. Please assist. By far, my favorite thread this year! We don't have them where I am from either and now obsessed/love them! I had one installed in my house back home--the contractors were like "huh?" But they did it! By the way, I think it is kind of funny that your name is Wizzy and you started a thread about the toilet....

Hello, I just moved to Dubai for the States in December. I am here on my own and the work at my company is not the environment I expected. I have a chronic history of depression and anxiety and am on medication, however since coming here the stress of a new place and my work environment has made it all very worse. Does anyone know of any community support groups for anxiety and depression? I tried the German Neuroscience center and they dont have them anymore. I do not have much money so hence why I am looking for a support group rather than one on one sessions. Thanks! Welcome to Dubai! The transition here can be tough. You could try the churches in Jebel Ali, the might have some groups or someone you could talk to. I know St. Mary's in Oud Metha and St. Francis have some competent folks--it's charity based, open to non-parishioners and doesn't have to be religious. I hope you find something that helps!

Does Anybody have Idea how I can order from sephora usa? We've shipped using MYUS.com and it has worked really well! However, I might exercise a bit of caution with beauty products... in fact, the handling procedures in Dubai may not the best (meaning that your lipstick, mascara, etc, could be sitting on the back of a delivery vehicle with in the sun with no aircon). So, I stopped using it for beauty products (or only order during winter months). Had a lipstick that was DOA (melted)....

We went to Disney Land Orlando. Fantastic time but then DH reversed our 4x4 into a palm tree. As we pulled forward we could see the mark the tyre on the back of the car had made in the tree. Worse still we couldn't open the rear door. Oh well we thought these things happen. So we come to our second last day and off we went in the morning but our eldest son was suffering from the heat. We headed back to our apartment but the keys wouldn't work. DH went off to see reception but then I began to have a very sneaky feeling about the actual date of our departure because we had changed it a few times. DH returned and yes we should have checked out and our flight was leaving in 3 hours. Panic set in. We phoned the airline and not surprisingly they told us to get to the airport immediately to see if there was any chance of getting on the plane. Everything got chucked into suitcases, our boys who at the time were 8 and 6, thought it great. The suitcases were threaded through the front doors and off we went. We screeched to a halt at the car hire place and trying to look as though it was the most natural thing in the world to remove our suitcases through the passenger door ran for the airport. Check in was closed but they managed to get us on the plane and we had to take our cases with us. So not a disaster but DH and I aged 10 years. And yes I am paranoid about checking our departure date now. This is a reoccuring nightmare of mine! Literally! Except in my dreams, someone keeps taking stuff out of the suitcase as I am frantically trying to pack it! Thanks for sharing this....

...Thank you so much!!! I had ordered a sandwich, after which I realized I had forgotten my wallet and did not have a single dirham to pay for my food. As I was fumbling with my purse, trying to think of where my wallet could be, she piped up and paid for my sandwich. Wow! Thank you--what a kind gesture. May good things come back to you 10-fold.

Hi ladies, Wondering how many of you are second timers to Dubai? Ie moved back to your home country after a stint in Dubai and then back to Dubai again? How have you found things second time around and what were your reasons for returning? We've been back in the uk 18m (after 7yrs in Dubai) and still not settled properly, major itchy feet but don't want to jump back into moving again in case it's a rose tinted glasses scenario :-/ Any regretters who wish they'd stuck the original decision to move back to home country out? Thank you xx We just moved back after three years of being in home country! Have to say, like gretaDBX, we LOVE being back. I eventually got to a place where I was pretty good with being home, but I always longed for Dubai... I will add a bit more backstory though, I hated Dubai for the first couple of years and ultimately forced myself to love it (which I ended up doing, for REAL!). Like you, we were in Dubai close to seven years. So, after that very difficult adjustment process, I finally found myself at home in Dubai and loving what was good about it and keeping the not-so-good in perspective. So, my heart goes out to you. It's so easy to look back... So, no, don't regret it moving back to Dubai at all! Having said that, I am also SO THANKFUL for the time I had in my home country. I did some awesome soul-searching and career-wise it was a FANTASTIC decision to get more training and re-group professionally. Best of both worlds! Good luck and it does get easier (and more enjoyable).

Thanks Whysayno and SueB, Really links are very helpful. What about clothing? What type of clothes we can take with us. I don't want to take all the junk with us if it is not suitable in US. If I am not wrong most of the warm clothing is required? Soryy for so many questions cause we have never been in US. Thanks for your guidance. You will DEFINITELY need four-season clothing (winter, summer, spring, fall--yes, think wardrobe expansion in all the best ways! I am desperately missing my knee-high boots--can't bring myself to wear them as it just doesn't feel right...) But, clothes are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in the US and typically better quality (or should I say, you get more bang for your buck). Wait for the clearance sales and you will LOVE the outlet malls! Oh, the outlet malls. If you're up for it, Delaware, a US state not far from NY has tons of outlet malls and no Sales Tax. If you like designer stuff, Nordstrom Rack and Filene's Basement (both have websites) have great bargains at times (it is a bit like a jumble/garage sale--it's the thrill of the hunt!) As for Dubizzle, my goodness, hmm.... I would say the only thing comparable is Craig's list (but I am drawing a blanket). HOWEVER, I AVOID craigs list. It's gotten a bit of a bad rap these days and IMHO, rightly so. One thing that is super fun (and dare I say it, "hip") is going to garage sales. You can find adverts for them, but you will have to drive out of the city. I LOVE them--it feels environmentally helpful, I don't have to worry as much (I have children), and it's a fun way to see different neighbor hoods and interact with the locals. I will admit, that I usually keep my purchases confined to those things I can bleach (so no clothes or stuffed animals :) Good luck--it will be a big adjustment, but it will be fantastic!

Hi, Our family is moving to NYC. please give me suggestion for a good but reasonable mover and packers. what do you suggest for furniture? Is it cheap in NY or no? If it is reasonable then we can buy over there, instead of shipping from Dubai. we are moving to Brooklyn. Is there any specific living communities / areas for families? Thanks in advance HI Mama! I can't give you specific guidance on NY, but what I can say is that it is VERY easy and affordable to buy furniture is the US. We just moved from the US (west coast) and it was cheaper to buy in US and ship to Dubai than buy locally (in terms of quality--you can find inexpensive furniture in Dubai, but it is MDF as opposed to solid wood). Here are some great websites (furniture-wise) to give you an idea (I have ordered from all of them and they are really good). Of course, there are tons of local outlets, but this should give you a variety of price so you can decide to pack it up or not (IKEA is also way cheaper in the US than here). Also if you do order, google the stores name and coupon (websites like retailmeknot etc will often have coupons (esp for places like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel) www.ballarddesigns.com (we've done custom orders through them--wait for a sale!) www.wayfair.com (they have EVERYTHING and all budgets--the also mention where the item is made, which I appreciate) www.amazon.com (everything, and I mean EVERYTHING can be ordered from Amazon... from tampons, to baby cribs, to astro turf, to milk...) Here's a great article with loads of online outlets that will keep you busy for weeks: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/08/18/best-websites-furniture-home-goods_n_3881090.html NY as I understand is definitely not cheap, but coming from Dubai, you may find it comparable (food and fresh produce will likely be cheaper, and certainly eating out--particularly if alcohol is involved). There's also things like Amazon Fresh and other stores that deliver fab produce from local sources right to your door. We had good friends that moved from Brooklyn and by far the biggest issues were housing and schools (but I can't advise on that as I have no experience). Good luck! Oh, and as for moving companies, DEFINITELY go for long-established recommended companies in Dubai. We had a horrible experience moving to the US from Dubai years ago. Basically, the Dubai company defaulted and our stuff was stuck in a US port for WEEKS and about to be auctioned. We had to pay thousands of dollars to get it out.

Thanks for the recommendation Sarahlou! AlisonT--I'd be curious to hear about your experience (selection of shows and streaming quality). Choice isn't as good as the US site. No buffering at all, just like watching the TV at home :-) "Darn" to the selection, "yay" to the viewability! Many thanks!

Hia! We just moved back and no issues but it is a MAJOR pain in the you-know-where. Since July, though?!?!?! That is excessive. I know for us, the major issues where that import requirements changed a bit and that there are a few vaccines/shots or something that MUST be done in the last 10 days before travel, and then be sent to USDA. We worked with Dubai Cattery and Kennels and I was in the US at the time to do the legwork. It was super annoying, though. It is easier to export a child than a dog! If you have not already, I would recommend contacting Dubai Cattery and Kennels here--the lady there is super helpful! Good luck!

Portland, OR is where the food truck craze started and is a cool city. An ideal trip would start in Seattle, WA and with a day trip to the San Juan Islands to see the Orcas, drive to Portland and down the coast of Oregon (must, must, must stop at Cannon Beach for a night) to northern CA. Stick to US 1 for the spectacular scenery, hit San Fran, Pebble Beach etc and go as far south as Big Sur. Dogntow is right--Cannon beach is pretty spectacular!!!

Seattle is FABULOUS for food--amazing quality, really inventive and an emphasis on local produce. It's a fun compact city and easy to navigate and there is lots of fun and funky shopping! You could check out the neighborhoods of Ballard and Fremont; take ferries to Orcas Island or San Juan-there is so much to do! Portland is ok (it definitely has some fun amenities but I'm not keen on it and if you have only 2.5 weeks, I would spend the rest of in CA!). As for CA, San Francisco is wonderful and definitely go to Alcatraz. If you rent a car, Muir Woods is worth the short drive. We LOVE Monterey, too. Laid-back and gorgeous with a pretty great aquarium (which even grown-ups like:) SoCal: Ahh... where do I begin! Universal Studios is so awesome and fantastic for the kids and adults of all ages (I think my hubby enjoyed more than any of us!). LA also has some fun neighborhoods as well depending on your interests. There's Santa Monica, Venice Beach (if that's your thing), Newport Beach is very nice. San Diego is fun too and has a great downtown urban center with some of the most fabulous Mexican food. Sounds like a wonderful trip--you WILL have a great time!

Fantastically useful thread! We will be moving and I was stressed about this issue. Last time in Dubai we went to curtainland in Oud Metha and they were a FORTUNE. Beautiful work, but painfully expensive (we were new to Dubai and had no idea...). Now, I know better :) thank you for all of these great options. Q for you ladies--do any of you have experience with them doing the curtains but you supply your own fabric? I am bring loads of quality black-out fabric and I would want them to use this. Of course, I can always call when I get to Dubai, but thought I would ask! Many thanks!

My DD was doing the same every day for about a month after she had started to pee in to the potty. I was very stressed especially when we were somewhere outside. Just continue with your rewarding program, eventually he'll start to do the right thing more and more often. I agree! I just stayed consistent and also started reinforcing his "trying." So, for every poop in the toilet he got two small cookies or two M&Ms or two Jelly Beans (I had to rotate the rewards to keep 'em fresh!). But, if he would just "try" to go to the potty but didn't "produce" then he got one treat. My goal was getting him just to "try" at certain intervals of time. It did take time, though... Good luck--I also think he will be even more motivated when he starts FS1 and sees other children wearing undies.

Thank you for this! We will be moving back to Dubai in the next few months and I will definitely miss online shopping (I have little ones and it is the only way I get to really "go shopping!") So, a BIG thanks to know that it is still possible
