Hi hun. DS had his teeth one week after his birthday & he had 3 teeth on the same day & the 4th after 2 days. Now at 17 months he has 6 teeth (2 teeth are still missing) but he started to have molars 2 months back & he already have 4. He started to crawl at around 9.5 months & he also started to cruise but he was very cautious. We were surprised when he finally let go & took few steps few days before his birthday. He wasnt interested in solids & until now at I have to spoon feed him as he will not hold his own food. He started to show interest in food at 15 months but he doesnt eat any types of snacks like biscuits, cookies, cakes or crisps. He still not so interested in fresh fruits but he will eat some fruit pots with lots of distractions. He eats one main meal at lunch & 2 snack meals with 2-3 milk feeds. He also started to climb & act like a normal toddler few days back. He was soo laid back & lazy & used to spend hours reading books & taking lay-ins intread of playing. Now he doesnt stop moving, jumping & playing. But he's an early talker & he started to talk using proper words at 8 months. Now he talks in sentences in English & Arabic & he can recognise few letters & numbers. Babies are different hun xx edited by wickedangel_78 on 21/04/2011

If she's fine with stage one & taking enough milk for her age you dont need to switch. My DS was suffering from reflux & we introduced Aptamil 2 at 7.5 months mixed with his Aptamil AR formula & he was fine with it. At 12 months when we switched to Aptamil 3 he was sicky at 1st so we had to mix it with Aptamil 2 then we started to reduce the amount of it slowly until he was taking Aptamil 3 only.

Cow milk & dairy is fine in food & cereals at 6+ months. I introduced cow milk in food & cereals at 6.5 months when we started weaning. DS was fine & although he was suffering from reflux it didnt upset his tummy. He was eating from what we'r eating & I always use yoghurt, milk, cream & cheese in my cooking & it didnt give him any gases or tummy problems.

I'm a native arabic speaker & English is my second language. DS is now 14.5 months old & he understands both languages. He speaks very well for his age (Arabic, English & baby talk). I read & sing for him in English & I use simple English words when I talk to him, but I use arabic in daily conversation as it's more difficult to learn than English. We use English with our maid so he's exposed to both languages on daily basis. I'm planning (Inshallah)to send him to a nursery with native English tutors when he's 2.5 years old as I want him to pick up a good English accent at an early age. When he goes to school, I'm planning to choose an English school that teaches a second language (French or Spanish).

DS is 14 months, I honestly wanted him to go to a nursery. He's a smart toddler & can already count to 3, he speaks in English & Arabic & uses some sign language. My concern wasnt learning, as I have all the time to sit with him & teach him new things. I live in Shrjah & there are no decent baby/toddlers groups here, & going to Dubai to go to a group is not easy due to traffic. I wanted him to socialize with other kids as he's my 1st & we dont have many friends with kids. But I was told they dont usually play with kids their age before the age of 18-24 months, this is why I changed my mind. I take him to different play areas every other day to see more kids. I might send him to a nursery when he's 2.5 yrs old & only for 2-3 hrs 2-3 time a week but not full time.

Do you mean Aptamil 3 UK or Aptamil 3 UAE? In the UK follow on formula (i.e after 6months) is called Aptamil 3, but here in the tins follow on formula (for 6-12months) is called Aptamil 2 and then Aptamil 3 is for after 12months. NO idea what the difference is between Aptamil 2 and 3 UAE is. Anyway - saw both in Spinneys Motor City but only in smaller tins. HTH. There is no Aptamil 3 UAE, it's Milupa 3. The same tin of Aptamil 2 but it's called Milupa 3 (toddlers milk)

I live in Sharjah (Buhairah). I'm born here & never had issues with living in Sharjah even when I was working in Dubai. I'm a SAHM mom, I have 1 son 14 months old. We'r thinking seriously to move to Dubai as you cant find decent nurseries, play areas or groups in Sharjah. Travelling to Dubai is not easy esp during the rush hrs. When we take DS out in the afternoon, we cant come back home before 8:30 - 9 pm because of the traffic which is a big issue.

& it doesnt get easier :( DS is 14 monhts & he's hard work at the moment. He's all over the place & needs attention 24/7. He's not sleeping through anymore, he's not interested in solids or his milk, he's stubborn, & whiney. I enjoy my time with him, but it's sooo exhausting. I think it's easier for younger mums, as my friends who are in their 20s dont feel the same lik eI do. DS was an easy going baby up until he was 8.5 months then he started to change. We have a maid but I dont let her help with DS. She doesnt baby sit (my choice), or feed him. She might change his nappy from time to time if I'm occupied, or keep an eye on him if I'm taking a shower, but other than that I dont like her to help. But If I'm given the choice to go back to work & leave him, I will never do it, I cant imagine being away from him for 10+ hrs everyday. He's my life & whe he says "habeebi mamma" I really forget all the exhaustion & lack of sleep. He's sooo cheeky & cute :D

DS was the same when I was pregnant, moving non-stop esp at night. He moves alot while sleeping since he was a newborn & we had to move him to his cot from moses at 6 weeks as he kept bumping his face into the sides of the moses. He's 14 months now, & he still moves nonstop while sleeping, but he sleeps well for long hours since he was a newborn.

Happy 1st birthday small candles & a huge no.1 candle. Looked amazing & tasted yummy, & I was sooooo proud as I made his 1st birthday cake :D

sweet... I wont be buying those little teeny pots that are like 26 dirham for 6 anymore (squirms after buying 2 lots today). DOH. I have plain yoghurt every day for my breakfast anyway so that will work well :D I bought loads of those tiny pots when we started weaning, then DS decided he didnt like them anymore, he prefered the cheap plain yoghurt :D I ended up eating all those fromage frais & fruits yoghurts

I went through an agency. The salary on the application was AED 800. As per of the agency agreement, she was paid for the 1st month of service through the agency. We paid her the same for the 1st 2 months during the probation period, then we increased her salary to AED 1500 when we decided to keep her. We also pay for her food, toileteries & clothes + extra money as a bonus during Eid, xmas, her birthday, etc. As for teachers salary, almost all Arabic private schools in Sharjah pay around AED 1800-2500 with no medical or tickets as most female teachers dont get a sponsorship through their schools.

Just adding to DC's initial post... I was told by paed that yoghurt is not to be given to babies under 12 months... so both DC and I have been using the "baby" yoghurt that specifically says it suitable from weaning. I think the difference is because it is made with milk powder as apposed to pasturised runny milk (if that makes sense)... so until 12 mths I didn't think we could use the normal adult full fat youghurt? You can use the normal full fat yoghurt from 6+ months. You can also use cow milk in cereals & cooking with no problems. I introduced yoghurt at 6.5 months when we started weaning with no problems. DS is suffering from reflux & it was great for settling his tummy & eleminate extra gases esp before bedtime. Now at 14 months, he dropped his bedtime milk feed & he eats a small pot of Marai yoghurt instead.

I have 3 pushchairs frm M&P, they have spare parts if you need to replace some, & they do check the wheels for you. I'm not sure about cleaning. I bought mine from here & they were still under warranty. A wheel of one of the pushchairs broke & they changed it free of charge, & they oiled the wheels or my Pliko & Cruiser after few months of using them. Dubai Mall M&P's service is good. You can give them a call & check with them.

I read the other day that the six-month thing may not be the right advice after all. I give up! loooooool, yeah, I read that. The best thing is to follow your LO's lead. DS was ready for solids at 6.5-7 months. I tried to start solids at week 20 but he started to drop milk feeds, so we had to stop & start again at 6.5 months. Until now (14 months) he only eats 1 main meal with 1-2 snacks.

Did it start just recently? There is a developmental growth spurt at this age, & separation anxiety (can cause bad dreams) + teething. DS was a good sleeper until it started at 8.5 months, & it lasted for a whole month until it finally settled & he went back to normal.

hi hun, yoghurt is fine but go for full fat. Fromage frais is also fine but the plain one. The fruity fromage frais available for kids (petit felous & the similar ones) here are full of sugar (a small pot has around 11 grms of sugar). You can use any full fat yoghurt & mix it with homemade fruit puree or just offer it plain. DS loves plain yoghurt. At 6+ months you can give ur LO from what you'r eating without the salt. I started weaning at 6.5 months by fork mashing from what we'r eating & it was easier than preparing puree. Shellfish, honey, nuts & cow milk as a drink should not be introduced before the age of 1 year. Other than that, if you dont have allegies in the family, any other food should be fine including eggs & strawberries. You can use cow milk in cereals & cooking. As for water, few sips with his solids should be fine to get him used to it's taste, he's still getting enough fluids frm BM, once he starts eating more esp animal protien & reducing his milk feeds he would need little bit more.

Thanks Ladies. I think it's just coincidental that at 13 months, I'm also trying to expand on her menu. Exciting times! But I do think it's the teething. Wickedangel - don't stress that your DS only has 4 teeth. A friend's LO only had 1 at 1 year! If I look at my LO at the moment, she seems to be getting 3 at the same time. They're all different. How did the switch off formula go? Did you start with half and half or just cold turkey? I need to do it too but am undecided between cow's milk (easier for us) and goat's milk (apparently easier to digest). Are you giving the toddler's milk at night to fill the tum? Thanks hun, I'm not worried about his teeth, he had his 1st tooth one week after his 1st birthday, but he's off his food because of teething non stop. I introduced cow milk at 11.5 months by mixing it with his formula at 1st, then I started reducing the amount slowly until he started to take cow milk only. You can try by offering her 1 oz without mixing & see how she takes it, if she's fine with the taste, you can start by replacing one feed at a time until she's fully weaned off formula. Offer cow milk at the same temperature she takes her formula. I'm giving him toddlers milk at bedtime because of his fussy eating, he's refusing to eat fruits for the past 2 months, & he only eats one proper meal at lunch which is around 2 tbsp. He doesnt snack or hold finger food, he's not interested. This is why we'r giving him toddlers milk as he needs the vitamins & nutrients in it.
