@ThirdCultureFamily OP concern is financial, I'm all for homeschooling, but with her concern it doesn't seem reasonable given that she's a full time working mum. We do loads of home based programs with my son during the holidays & they are time consuming. home schooling 1 child is not the same as homeschooling 3. I'm considering homeschooling for my 5 yrs old son but maybe later as he doesn't fit in socially at school and he is advanced but we will not look into it until he turns 8 when he can be assessed properly. His school is working on his social issues this is why we are sticking to sending him to school for now. Physical classes outside schools hours are costly, we spend $$$ per month for physical activities during the holidays, at school those are part of the school's fee, there are PE classes and free play ground time at school. We are trying to help OP in making the right decision with her circumstances, my full time working friends are struggling to entertain their children now during the holidays, their working hours are long, I fail to understand how OP can manage to tutor 3 young children, entertain them and work full time at the same time. If she decides to go for private tutoring + K12 fees + external physical activities all this will add up and it would end up similar to paying school fees.

With that price I wouldn't go for it. Children need socializing and interaction, for 18k per year you can find a good school. Children need to interact with people not screens & get some sort of physical activities. Dubai international school prices are reasonable, the curriculum is American, my friend's daughter graduated high school from there and was granted a scholarship by the American University in Dubai through her school. If your reason for homeschooling is solely the fee, you can find good schools with reasonable prices. My friends abroad who home school are stay at home mums and they spend all morning working with their children, then they enrol them in physical activities in the afternoons to socialize and exercise

I can't comment on offices, but I find the malls here to be pleasant and comfortable. Please don't mess with the air con in public places. As a hijab wearing Muslim, I'd be stuck at home if the malls and/or groceries were influenced by those few who get cold. I can't stand the heat anymore -- just fed up with it. This, I welcome the coolness after walking from the car to the mall/ supermarket. We're in full sleeves and head covers, we don't have the option to wear less ;)

mrsmoo - as far as I am aware the debts have not been fully paid off. My husband and I split shortly after our return home, I should have mentioned this in my original post. However, I am not yet divorced so this would probably not make a difference. I had assumed that our visa's would naturally expire as they were not renewed by the sponsor whose company went out of business. It is cancelled in my passport so I think that I may have done this at the airport when we left? It is hard to remember exactly what happened. If it's cancelled on the passport then there is no issue with entering.

Did you cancel your visas before leaving? I know your residencies have expired now but I think they need to be cancelled in the immigration system. if they are not cancelled you might not be able to enter the country without canceling your residency in the system. Residence visas automatically expire if you are out of the UAE for more than 6 months. So I think that it's automatically entered into the system. [b'>To the OP: [/b'> I would absolutely get a lawyer to help you with this because of the complexity and gravity of the situation. The only thing I can suggest is that you contact Ludmila Yamalova who does a show on Dubai Eye 103.8. She seems to do a lot of short Q/As on the show. I think people send in interesting questions/topics and she decides what to read on air. Or if you have the money (and especially because this is time sensitive), I would hire a reputable Dubai-based lawyer for a 1-hour consult on the phone. And lastly...no one has the right to judge you or your family for what you guys did. Good luck. An expired visa is not the same as cancelled visa.

You can get sued if you open the property without a court order. OP did you check with immigration if the tenant is still in the country with valid visa or not? It might accelerate the process but I don't know how easy it is to get info from them.

Birth control is OTC here & You don't need a prescription But I wouldn't start BCP without a check up 1st, my friend was pregnant while nursing without even knowing. You can go on the mini pill before having a period & it's safe to take while nursing, so if you want to take pills I'd suggest checking now with a Gyno even if you didn't start your period yet.

I don't dress in a "certain" way but I never had issued there, it is not Dubai mall, they were too friendly, I didn't even pay. My son was at a school trip there but he missed a part , when I asked if I can take him in after his school left they were so friendly and told me it's fine & I don't have to pay I took my son another time & I didn't notice any discrimination. Instead of conplaining her you can go to a newspaper as it seems you are never happy with anything related to this place. There are strict rules against discrimination here and those rules are issued by the ruler

It depends on the company, maternity leave is 40 days by law and you get insurance IF the insurer doesn't ask for a proof that you don't have another insurance from your husband's company. Annual leave is per labour law or company handbook (some companies have more leave days than the ones stated in the labour law but the status of you visa doesn't make a difference) If you work for government you don't get any benefits like schooling, insurance or housing if your husband works for a government company. But maternity and annual leaves are not affected. I'm not sure about ticket, I think in some private companies your husband should declare that you are working but again it depends on the company. I was working under my dad's visa, when I started to work my dad's company took away my ticket & insurance as those were provided by my employer. But all companies I worked for gave me all benefits including housing for singles.

How old is she? When does she wake up? The weather is too hot & even if she's indoor all day I wouldn't expect a child to not eat for almost 24 hrs. If I ask a child to fast I'd make sure this child sleep late, eat sohour & keep him sleeping until noon or a bit later in summer. My cousin is 9, he sleeps so late at 3 am and he eats before he goes to bed, he wakes up at around 2-3 pm, so practically he is fasting for 5-6 hrs , he doesn't fast everyday, if he gets tired he eats (he has full freedom not to fast). He doesn't feel fasting is a burden and he likes to fast like his older sisters (14 & 16)

We had it today yum! I add spices to 2 spoons of plain yoghurt then brush the whole shoulder with the yoghurt, then wrap it 3-4 times with foil then into the oven in an oven tray. After 30 mins I add water to the tray, it takes 3-3.5 hrs to cook. Serve with rice. I use lamb shoulder for stews, I cook it in the pressure cooker & use the broth & meat in stews It's the best part of a lamb, tender & soft

I don't think you'll find what you're looking for online. In Sharjah you will have to physically go to the area you're interested in , visit the building & view the apt. The keys are usually kept with the security guard. I don't think many properties in Sharjah are listed online. there are many areas with water view in Sharjah like majaz , Qasba & Al khan lagoons

Thanks for the Sharjah advices, I might finally brave it ? Wait until the weather is good, don't do it in summer, book a hop in 24 hrs bus ticket , it will take you to all those areas & you will not "feel" the traffic. There are 2 routes for the buses. You can use a ticket for both, one for new part of Sharjah (Majaz water front, Al Qasba, Sahara centre, Aquarium, etc) and the other route will take you to the old souq, museum etc. I wouldn't drive around Sharjah , I live there and I take a taxi when I go around as it's a killer to find a parking space everywhere. Sharjah is nice in winter. It is nice & friendly with loads of activities around Al Qasba & the water front. There are many nice reasonably priced food shops & sweet / chocolate shops there. We are never bored during winter, but now the weather is hot there isn't much to do other than going to the beach. As for getting bored, I am tired from seeing water looool , we live by the lagoon, when we drive my son to school we take the beach road, in winter it is nice, but now it is exhausting as it screams humidity. I need to see real natural greenery not only palm trees

In some schools there is Arabic A, B & C A - for fluent Arabic speakers B- for those who speak Arabic as a second language at home C- for none Arabs / none Arabic speakers Agree with Sey - if a child is exposed to some Arabic at home, s/he might be fine with Arabic A. I thought my son will struggle with Arabic at school, he's in FS2, but he is doing fine and he can already read & write in Arabic. His spoken Arabic now is much better since he started school. He was raised bilingual but English was easier for him when he was younger.

I don't think there is a standard curriculum for PYP, at my son's school the curriculum itself is British but they follow the PYP concept in teaching and it is an IB/PYP licensed school . There is something called the IB learner profile, it is a studying frame work not a curriculum. It is a holistic approach to teaching, students are assessed based on their overall development not only on their academic achievements. My son is a high achiever in academics but he had some social challenges, during this year his teachers were working on his social development, as he is advanced academically he is given school work based on his academic level and he doesn't follow what his peers cover in class as it is basic to him. His school offer IGCSEs in addition to IB in high school and the student chooses between the two. In primary & secondary they all study the same based on the PYP and MYP framework of teaching. As for teachers there is no dominant nationality at their school, last year his teacher was British this year his teacher is American. They all go through training and they have to attend PYP/ IB workshops

There is a brand called kabatilo (sp?) you can find it in coops. You can either cook it as a soup with chicken/ meat stock or you fry it with olive or ghee add hot stock/ water and cook it like rice. 1 cup takes apr 2 cups of water. Then garnish it with peas, fried nuts and meat/chicken The soup one is finer than the one for cooking. When you look for freekeh always go for the green one. It needs soaking & proper cleaning before cooking.

Hamriya free zone is closer to Ajman than Sharjah residential areas, it is located between Ajman & Um Al Quwain. It is own by the Emirate of Sharjah but it is in Ajman looool. it is better to live in Ajman and the rent is cheaper than Sharjah. Traffic is not pleasant in Sharjah, so it is better to find an apt close to your husband's work. There is a good British school in Ajman and the majority of students are Indians. It's the British international school http://www.bisuae.ae As for domestic help, there are rules to sponsor a maid, you should live in a 2 br apt with a maid's room, if you choose part time the hourly rate is 30-35 AED in Sharjah/ Ajman. Utilities bill is between AED 500-1000 for 1 bed room apt depending on the use of AC. I don't know about Indians communities in those areas as I'm not Indian. Rent in Ajman for 1 br apt is around AED 30,000-35,000 per year in a new tower, in Sharjah in a nice tower the rent is 40,000-55,000. But there are cheaper areas if you plan to live in an old building or a building with window AC, the rent in those buildings is 25000- 30000.

Well Buddha I thought Skynet was a great option, but maid doesn't want to do that. She's worried about stuff getting stolen! She's made a half hearted attempt at speaking to them and discounted it immediately. She wants to take the stuff on the plane with her excess baggage. I give up! Sometimes it's not worth wasting your time trying to help people. Whoever said she has little common sense is right - we've had this sort of rubbish quite a few times. I have asked her how she's going to pay for the excess baggage, which of course is when the request for salary advance came!! Starting to wonder if it's such a disaster if she doesn't come back after her vacation...but doesn't it cause problems for visa cancellation and getting a new maid? When will her visa expire? If her visa is new you will have to report her as absconded and then wait 6 month before cancelling her visa then process a visa for new maid. If her visa will expire soon , you also report her but it is not really needed as you can cancel her visa on the day of expiry. Just make sure to keep a copy of her passport. Cancelation is straight forward and on spot. It happened to us last year. Our maid travelled on vacation & didn't come back, she went end of March , she didn't come back in April, her visa expired on 12th May and we cancelled it on the same day & we got our deposit the next day. As long as she doesn't enter the country during this period cancelling her visa is straight forward.

I read this and just feel so very sad,,,, where oh where is your compassion ladies??? A few quid or dollars to help a young lass ,,,,put yourself in her shoes,,,she sees her family ONCE a year, no surprise she is excited and wants to bring them nice things from Dubai,,,,I'll bet a few of you take a bit extra home at Christmas etc to surprise your loved ones,,,, just saying,,,,,count your lucky stars. When I travel I make sure I don't go beyond the weight limit, I expect our maid to do the same, paying AED 75 for 1 kg does not worth it. When our maid went to the Philippines we didn't have an issue to pay for extra 20 kg but it only cost us around 150-200 for the 20 kgs as an additional package on Cebo airlines but paying per kg is way too much. It is bad planning from the maid's side, it is not the sponsor's responsibility.
