The full story was on FB, It seems that the Egyptian actress was trying underwear & was walking around the shop with her underwear to change the sizes of the items she was trying. The Emarati lady asked her nicely 3 times not to walk around like this but she didn't listen & was rude to her. Then the shouting started

The video wasn't fully filmed, from what they were saying that woman covered up with the abaya later, what she was wearing was similar to a beach wear or underwear. I don't know who's right & who's wrong, I don't know how it started and led to this shouting & name calling

Have spoken to his teacher after seeing his report how aggressive was highlighting his writing !! after long chat with her i knew that she wanted to give him a private lessons which consider one to one after school, it seems she offers these private tutoring to other students at the class and she said this is confidential !! If she write such a report no school will except him. I will speak to the head of primary and see!! ;) She is looking for extra income, the school should work with your child & notify you from the second term on his struggles. And they can't fail a KG2 student unless he is severely behind in all subjects. My son can't write properly, his hand writing is bad although he is considered advanced ! When I raised this issue to school they told me clearly that he is still so young & fine motor skills are not fully developed at the age of 5, it is not even a concern before the age of 7. My son is given extra writing as it is his weak area, his teacher didn't offer private lessons, it is HER job to assess each student individually and report accordingly to parents! We work together to overcome his weakness at school, From your post I understand that your child is not even 5 yet!

My son is in FS2, most of the younger children in his class started to read cvc words this term and some children are still in picture books without words. I don't know which school your son goes to, if it is a school similar to SABIS then their assessment is not the norm & they do have high expectations at a very young age. My son can read well but he is November born & one of the older children in class and is considered advanced. He goes to IB school, what they cover is considered basic compared to his cousin who is in KG2 at Choueifat.

Can I ask what are they teaching him in KG2 to fall behind? How old is your child? Is he one of the younger children?

Our landlord is responsible of cleaning the filters & grills in addition to filling the AC gas. Ducts cleaning is not part of the maintenance they offer. They run the AC maintenance once a year. They are also responsible of repairing or changing parts if required without charging us.

Buy it online, it doesn't worth spending on the hard copy, books are quite expensive here. I bought the 3 books (kindle) over a year back but until now I can't get myself to read the last book.

Chuckecheese close to wafi is new but not sure if they do birthday parties. The play area at wafi is suitable for older children, there is also little explorers in Mirdif city centre suitable for the age range you're looking for.

Thanks Ladies, the choice for these 2 is because Rotana has a 48 hour sale on, so they're both rather chea.... inexpensive). I'm already flying his girls over as a surprise, but thought it would be nice to spend a few days out of Dubai for a change. There are offers on groupon & cobone for both with meals included.

Weather is better in Fujairah & less humid, I prefer Fujairah as the beach is closer to the rooms, we book the chalet type rooms in Fujairah. Coffee shops & restaurants are nicer at Cove, pool is nicer in Fujairah.

Update- school sent a survey yesterday about iPad use in education & the fee (surprise surprise, loool) I mentioned that I am not happy with the fee & it is very young for fs students to use iPads for education. I also mentioned that I don't like the idea of children keeping the iPads with them at home. DS is in fs2, so he doesn't get the iPad to take it back home, but at pick up I see older children with their iPads around the school sitting together & playing games. There were concerns list one of them was concentration & getting too involved with iPad & not listening to parents. Another one was related to behaviour, frustration & anger. I ticked all as potential concerns once my child get to keep the iPad full time.

They didnt ask us for any fees but the school only had a few iPads at the beginning of the year and have since seemed to have given up on acquiring any more. They have certain activities they use tablets on but I don't think they're branded. I'd rather buy an iPad than rent one especially at 2000 dhs per year, and as far as sharing if that's required then they should share the fees as well, that's my opinion. Each student has his own iPad labelled and kept at school from fs1- Y3, from Y4+ It stays with the students, all are iPads with educational apps & most apps are paid.

We do not pay extra for tablet/IT usage. I find it quite ridiculous and greedy that your school asks extra! Our school's fee is reasonable compared to other IB schools, with small number of students per class. From what I've read here it's either included within the fee or they ask the students to get their own. I was just curious to see what other schools do when I read the article in the National.

At my children's school, it is required from Year 1. My children each have an IPad and I have been told that for the children who don't have IPads, they are required to share theirs. I'd prefer to provide the iPad rather than paying an annual fee, this is why I am asking. We don't pay for books until middle school but all my friends pay for books at other schools. I don't know what is the norm when it comes to additional fees. My aunt told me that they asked them to provide the iPad & it's from Y3, but at our school the annual fee is paid from FS1. It was AED 1000 last year but this year we paid AED 2000 edited by wickedangel_78 on 27/04/2015

Android tablets are better than ipads anyway !! lol We don't use them at our school yet so sorry I can't answer Yeah they are better, but not all school apps work on android I guess. We were also asked for covers & headphones. At our school we pay the fee from FS1 !! edited by wickedangel_78 on 27/04/2015

7daysindubai.com/why-do-primary-school-pupils-need-a-top-tablet/61003 This got me thinking, do you pay a fee to your school for tablet usage at school? Or are you asked to provide the tablet to your children? My cousin was asked to bring an iPad to school (Y3). But at our school we pay AED 2000 per year for usage /technology without owning the tablets What is the norm in other schools? P.S. This is not debate about using tablets at school/ for education. edited by wickedangel_78 on 27/04/2015

Thank you Daza, I just feel a bit useless, as I am not working and can't be bothered driving them to things every day, although it's manageable :-( After the summer I will cut down on the ones they aren't that in to at least. I feel the same at this time of the year, for me it is the heat I guess, I feel too lazy to go from one place to another, I always plan to cut down on the number of activities when summer starts, but when the weather starts to get better I start to enrol him back in classes

Hello everyone, Thanks for all kind replies. We're living in Dubai and I just wanted my husband to feel like getting out of the city. Turns out that there's not much to do around those areas that I booked. Plus, the quality of services decreased the further we went from Dubai:) So, my advice, if your not interested at all about the authentic and original life around this territory, don't leave Dubai! How was the beach, pool & food there? I booked 2 nights there, we stay in Sharjah & kiddos school is in Ajman. We're only looking for a time to spend at the beach swimming, then dining & chilling in the hotel in the evening. We usually stay in RAK or Aqqah in Fujairah for beach stay, but we don't want to go far during school days.

Children get dry at night when they are ready, you don't really train them. The sensor is used for older children (5+ yrs) who are not dry at night. I wouldn't disturb the sleep of a child who's only 2 yrs to potty train. My son was still in nappies during the day at that age. He was fully dry & out of nappies day & night with no accidents at all at 3.2 yrs. some of my friends children who are 5 are still not dry at night, and according to their paed it is normal & not something to flag as an issue before the age of 7 edited by wickedangel_78 on 22/04/2015

Complain to the building management, it is not allowed in our building to keep stuff near the doors or block the corridors. When you complain make sure they don't mention that you are the ones who complained. Some neighbours are nice but others are nasty, this is why I avoid direct contact regarding similar issues with neighbours I don't know & I speak to the building management directly

Totally agree with above advice... my DD gets very easily intimidated by kids... we teach her to hold her hand out and say NO loudly to any kid who tries to scare her or hit her... we shouldn't teach our kids to lash back but they should know how to defend themselves... and they should definitely not be getting immune to being hit which seems to be whats happening with your kids Zidu.... This! My son is 5.5 and he was bullied at school, he had a meeting with the HOD at school and she taught him to hold his hands out & say no if someone tries to hit him. She also encouraged him to report the bully to any adult around even if it's not his teacher He doesn't hit back as hitting is not nice. edited by wickedangel_78 on 16/04/2015

I have a dryer wickedangel! Got it from Sharaf DG recently, Samsung, 8kg, condenser dryer. I think it was around 2700. I'm pleased with it although as it's new I can't vouch for it's longevity. Prior to that I had an AEG dryer, it was great and lasted about 15 years. Great! Thanks.

Condenser tumble dryer is what I am looking for. It has a drawer for water collection not a vent. I'm looking for 8 kgs one (similar to the one I had but another brand) It is handy to dry curtains, rugs, comforters & bed covers & it saves ironing when you remove them hot or use the ironing setting. I have a huge kitchen so space is not an issue edited by wickedangel_78 on 15/04/2015

You can buy them from dragon mart & they are similar to the ones it Patchi for fraction of the price, then buy chocolate & tulle and wrap the chocolate & attach it to the gift. There is also Lee chocolate in Mirdif city centre, it is cheaper than patchi There is also a lady in AD who prepare gifts & baskets and she delivers to Dubai Look for Choco Tulip on FB

You can buy a dryer in Dubai but it is very expensive. The best thing is to hang your clothes outside. Now that it is getting hot, it doesn't take long for the clothes to dry. They get smelly from the humidity, and I live in an apartment, I have a balcony but the balcony is in the living room and I hate the sight of hanged clothes all day. It cost around 1700-2000 , my washing machine & cooker are provided by the landlord so spending on a dryer is not an issue for me. No one here owns a dryer? ;)

The sponsor can't get his deposit unless the maid leaves the country or transfer her visa. If she doesn't leave or find a new sponsor within the grace period the old sponsor will be fined. This is why he keeps the passport to make sure she leaves or gets a new visa before the end of the one month grace period edited by wickedangel_78 on 15/04/2015

AED 200 , birthdays cost parents a small fortune, it's a min of 100 per child and if the parents are staying with the child it's an extra cost for the meal. So AED 200 seems about the right amount to spend on a gift for me edited by wickedangel_78 on 14/04/2015

My son has a Yamaha keyboard. We bought it from Yamaha shop in wafi, we bought it with the stand. My advice go for a keyboard with the same number of keys as the piano she uses for practicing with her tutor. Ours has less keys & my son struggles with the left keys. Many keyboards come with piano option (weighted keys for a piano touch) Check with the sales person there, I am no expert, but so far the keyboard we have is fine, we paid around 1250 for it with the stand. My son is only 5, we are not planning to go for an electrical piano until he's 8-9 yrs.

I always hire maids through agencies, when they enter we have 2 months grace period to stamp the residency on the passport, we use the grace period before stamping the residency and paying the fee, so when the maid completes a year of service she still have 7-8 weeks on her contract and her residency, she travels for a month, and we still have 3-4 weeks when she comes back to renew her contract. The contract date & residency start from the date of stamping her residency on passport not from the date of entry.

DS is in FS2 and there is always something for parents. We have access to teachers without appointments, we can contact teacher via emails and classdojo, we get weekly reports on what they cover, there is parents workshop or seminar at least once a month, this is in addition to various events and sometimes they ask parents to help with food or setup. They update the school communicator and FB page regularly. We attended 2 seminars for his age group one about the importance of reading and another one for buckling up in the back while travelling in the car. In addition to the school related workshops. I always discuss my son's progress with his key teacher, concerns are always handled immediately with the involvement of the HOD when needed. I receive updates by email, my child is differentiated at school as he is advanced for his age, but he has some social issues but again his school is working on them and they send us reports regarding his progress in that area. We receive an official report every term covering his progress socially and academically. For me we are too involved and sometimes I wish it was a bit less ;) edited by wickedangel_78 on 14/04/2015
