I'd never renew the contract and pay for the renewal then send her on vacation. We sent our previous maid on vacation 1.5 months before her contract expiry date and we paid for returned ticket. She called saying that she missed her flight, when we tried to contact her back to arrange for a new ticket she didn't answer her phone then she switched it off. We couldn't cancel her visa until the expiry date and we couldn't start the process of sponsoring a new maid. She was "responsible", she "needed" the job as according to her she used to send all her money to her family, she didn't take all her stuff with her, she didn't even take or ask for her gratuity before leaving, but she decided not to come back. It wasn't planned and I have no clue why she decided not to come back. We even tried to contact her sister and family but none answered our calls. If you renew the contact and send her home on vacation and then she decides not to come back, it is a long process to cancel her visa, you'll have to report her as absconded, and I think you will have to wait 6 months before cancelling her visa then sponsoring another maid. edited by wickedangel_78 on 14/04/2015 edited by wickedangel_78 on 14/04/2015

Sharjah museum, al Qasba is nice in sharjah, there is also a circus that started recently in Qasba, emirates eye, a boat trip, al Majaz water front is also nice with nice restaurants and dancing fountain shows, it is close to the blue souq In UAQ there is a water park but not much to do. Nothing in Ajman to see or do. There is the china mall in Ajman. edited by wickedangel_78 on 14/04/2015

There is no law , they get 1 month paid vacation per year of service, but there is no law for gratuity, so it is up to you to decide on the amount.

I see many ladies who work from home without a license, and they use fb, but it is their main income and they can't afford a license, those are SAHM mums who don't have the option to go back home. But if it is something health related like selling unlicensed products or medicines I'd let them know that it is illegal and if they don't stop I'd report them. It is not about competition , someone was selling raw milk on FB through a farmer , another lady was selling unlicensed slimming drugs. I wouldn't report someone who's selling crochet or handbags, but if it is health related and can cause harm I would but I'd talk to this person 1st and make it clear that what they're doing is illegal before reporting.

Villas are kind of isolated in sharjah, there are no closed compounds other than the new Zahya which is too far away. What is your budget? Where is your work? Traffic is killing in Sharjah, so if your work in sharjah look into areas close to your work. If your work is in Dubai areas like al nahda, Taawon or Al Khan corniche are good.

Hi, Do you know what are the reasons he is falling behind? I honestly wouldn't go for a private tutor. There are institutes who work with children who are falling behind in education. Besides private tuition at homes is illegal unless it is through a licensed institute/ school Check this one http://www.thebrainworkshop.com HTH edited by wickedangel_78 on 25/03/2015

My 5 yrs old is an only child, he struggles socially at school as he prefers the company of adults. He is social but with older children outside school only. He is fine with sharing, he is not spoiled and he is very well behaved at school. But he talks to us (his parents) as if we are his age, if I raise my voice a bit he accuses me of shouting and he thinks he has the right to "discipline" me. We don't know if we're going to have more children, we're not young and ttc for a 2nd hasn't been a nice experience so far. I am sorry to hear that your DS is struggling socially... odd though that it is only at school? Is he generally happy there? What do his teachers say? Does he do any team activities? Have playdates? It is not uncommon for only children to spend a lot of time with adults.. however I certainly wouldn't tolerate my LO treating m as an equal or trying to discipline me... THAT behaviour is a slippery slope to problems later on... fast forward to when he is 16......!! He is happy at school and his teacher is working on his social struggles, he is advanced for his age and the fact that he is a November born (one of the oldest children in class) is not helping. He is fine with group activities, but when it comes to free play at school, he prefers to walk around the play area instead of playing with his peers. According to his teacher he is improving. Outside school he doesn't have those issues, he goes to after school group activities and he is social there. But again the children are older I agree about the discipline, this is why I am firm with him and I always explain to him that parents discipline their children, but it doesn't mean children can "discipline" their parents ;) edited by wickedangel_78 on 23/03/2015

If it's about your health y go for cheaper. After all health is wealth :) An expensive gym is not an indication to better health ;) I had a membership with one of the well known gyms here, classes were good but the trainer never bothered to correct postures or moves, in the weights section no PT bothered to help or show members how to use the equipments, but they using to push members to buy their overpriced PT sessions, after starting prices used to up without notice. Now I have a membership in a cheaper gym, the classes are nice and all staff are helpful. A good service has nothing to do with the price you pay

I don't like that area, it is an entrance/ exit to the city. There is always traffic in peek hours. I prefer Buhairah corniche in Majaz 3. What is your budget? How many bedrooms are you looking for? edited by wickedangel_78 on 19/03/2015

Did you check 7 oaks in Al Khan? It is a British nursery Many of my friends had their children in English rose and they all were happy with it. There is also Alwan daycare at al Majaz water front, it is not a nursery but the staff are so nice and it is not crowded. edited by wickedangel_78 on 19/03/2015

DS school asked for 10,000 either in cash or current dated check to be paid before 27 March. They sent us a letter mid feb, if we decide not to enrol him before the start of the academic year, AED 500 will be deducted from the amount and they will refund the remaining 9500 edited by wickedangel_78 on 18/03/2015 When you say current dated check, I'm assuming they are cashing it right away then? 10k...per child...that's a lot of money! Yes it is cashed right away, I agree it is a lot of money especially with the 3rd fee check that was due at the beginning of this month. But the reimbursement policy is fair enough I guess, we have until the start of the academic year to withdraw and only 500 will be deducted. The school is new and they are expanding, so I guess it is strategy to increase their cash flow ;)

My DS tummy was the same at that age, now at 5.5 his tummy is completely flat and his rips show As for eating veggies and fruits, did you try smoothies? DS is fine with some cooked veggies in stews but he will not touch any raw veggies or whole fruits. I give him smoothies and I add flaxseeds, greens and 1-2 low GI fruits

The old tefal takes 40 mins , my mum has one, not sure about the new one. Philips takes 20-25 mins for 1kgs of fresh potatoes. I like it for samosa and kibbeh as those I can't oven fry them , with Tifal you can't fry samosa or kibbeh, they will end up mashed.

Hi - if your visa is Abu Dhabi but live and work in Dubai can you still go to the government hospital in Dubai and buy the health insurance card for any medical treatments in Dubai - or does the Abu Dhabi visa mean you are not eligible? Thanks! Yes you can if you provide a lease contract in Dubai, even if you don't live in Dubai or have a dubai visa you can still use the government hospitals ER.

You can use government hospitals but it is not free unless it is ER for a real emergency case, a nurse will see you free of charge at the ER and she will decide whether it is an emergency case or not. I went to Latifa with a missed mc to the emergency but I paid 250 as I was not bleeding and in my case it wasn't urgent, so they gave me another appointment for the next day and I also paid 250 for the consultation then 300 for blood tests and 2800 for the D&C The Iranian hospital is a bit cheaper than government hospitals for outpatient treatments and ER if the case is not that urgent Even if you don't have a health card in government or even a visa they will admit you to the ER but unless it is a real emergency you will have to pay. In government you can't see a specialist directly, you will have to see a GP 1st edited by wickedangel_78 on 16/03/2015

Do all schools keep on asking for useless stuff? During this year we've been asked for decorations, food, hats, costume for the world book day and now 2 costumes for the assembly! My question: where can I find a lion costume size 5-6 ? All the ones I found are for babies and toddlers. I tried the baby shop, the party centre, toys r us but I didn't find any TIA

I honestly think it depends on the transport company the school uses and the ride time. DS is 5 in FS2 we drive him to school, we live in Sharjah and the school is in Ajman. I wouldn't be happy to send him to school in a bus at 6.15 am, we leave home at 7.10 am and the extra 1 hr sleep makes a difference, we get exhausted with the 30-40 mins drive and we reach school with the busses, I can't imagine my son going around in bus for 1.5 hrs twice a day. They are at school until 2.40 pm, it is long enough for a 5 yrs old, with commuting time if he uses the bus he will not be back home before 3.45 - 4 pm

What are the rules in other schools for securing a place for the next academic year? I only have 1 child and this is his second school year, last year we only had to sign a letter to secure a place and submit the checks before the start of the academic year Last month we received a letter requesting us to pay 10,000 either in cash or current dated check before March 27 to secure a place for the next academic year I didn't find it very nice as the 3rd payment check is due this month and we also have to pay rent on April 1st. edited by wickedangel_78 on 01/03/2015

Many Syrians here are without residency, they can't go back home as many lost their homes, they can't enrol their children in schools and they don't even have income, they live on charities from other families around So unless you know their situation please stop suggesting reporting and so on. Not all expats have income or even have the option to go back home! And no the red crescent does not help families who are staying here illegally

My son is 5, I met many mums in toddlers classes , and many were not that young. I also met a mum recently at my son's school who's 7 yrs younger than me and we arrange play dates for our boys. Hi, I took metaformin for 2 months only around 10 years back, but I was on BCP since I was 23. I'm 36 now, I went off the BCP at 30 , got pregnant and had a baby, then I went back on the pill. In august 2013 I went off the pill , got pregnant in Jan, then miscarried in April. Since the D&C I've been having regular periods and no pcos symptoms. I was overweight during my teens, by I lost the weight by dieting and exercising. Now I regularly exercise, my diet is healthy and my weight and BMI are normal. edited by wickedangel_78 on 21/02/2015 edited by wickedangel_78 on 21/02/2015
