There's 24 hour security patrolling (or there was when we camped there). I'm not sure how you get hold of them, but I bought a book of Dreamland vouchers for AED 99 (I got mine at Manar Mall in RAK from some salesmen.). There are about 20 BOGOF admission vouchers in the book (max 2 at a time can be used), and a voucher for 25% off a cabin. The book refers to Expo Marketing www.expomarketing.com 06 747 9681 edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 28/09/2011 Thank you for the info. Dreamland website doesn`t mention cabin prices, but according to the old Gonabit deal it`s 1000 per night for 2 adults :\: Wow, this must be the most expensive ''camping'' in the world...

If the maid`s room is not ''connected with anything'' as you said, what about the shower/ toilet etc...?! I`m just wondering about her living conditions in general..

At Kempinsky MOE`s - cheap and great, herbal teas, scones, salmon sandwiches... ummmm:) Plantation at Sofitel JBR-rubbish, great location and view but food is a total letdown. I am going to try Platos in Atlantis next, must use the Entertainer vouchers:) edited by Wild Mint on 28/09/2011

Hello ladies, How can i find out the prices for the Dreamland`s stayovers? Also, isn`t it unsafe to stay in a place with not a soul around, no security guards etc...?

Sounds like shakshouka, which is super tasty! Breakfast buffet at Mazina has it. I think it`s a traditional Jewish dish or something like that...

I know someone who was over 40 and did it. Honestly age shouldn't come into it! Everyone is too focused on age, it is just a number! [b'>To be a promoter it boils down to personal presentation, experience, confidence and personality! Go for it! [/b'> Yes! But the interviewer is often male, then certain physical attributes is a deal-maker or a deal breaker...

Thank you a lot, ladies. You made me feel so much better! After turning 30 i started to have that sulking feeling that i`m no good for any kind of ''public'' job anymore, i thought that everyone wants to look at 20-something girls only. I shall get a facial and hope for an interview!

PN, great news, thanks! Yes, this job IS a lot of fun, i used to enjoy it a lot, even made a couple of friends who i`m still in touch with. Btw, do you know if she works for one company (has contract with) or does different jobs through the agency?

Thank you ladies! Now i`m even more confused... We don`t care much for the booze, just wanted some good food in a place which isn`t over the top fancy. Reviews on Time Out are rather good but old. I am looking for something similar/better than Flavours on 2, where we could use Entertainer vouchers...

there are ways how other countries / our mothers solved the baby sitting problem without maids. like asking the neighbor. here hardly anyone introduces themselves or talk or invite over the neighbors. we no longer "ask for the missing ingreadient" from the neighbor when cooking. or help out eachother. why is that? just an observation. That is why most people can never feel ''at home'' here. No sense of community, no family, you are just on your own...

This really, really winds me up. Companies here take absolutely no responsibility for training their staff and making sure they're doing what they're supposed to be doing and then they take it out on the staff themselves?! I hate the way we're all afraid to complain in case the worker in question is fined/fired/shot at dawn. It sucks. This is what makes me shut my mouth up each time i get p*ssy about the poor service, lazy staff etc. Out of fear of ruining someone`s life i just chose not to return to that place or distract myself with something else.

EJC, I think you made a wise decision. After our complain ''the management'' offered us a reimbursement which was not billing us for one month. It was 1000 or something like that. I thought WOW, great customer care etc! The next time made showed up in our house she started crying and telling us that she almost got fired and that this money will be deducted from HER salary, which was 600DHS(!!!), so the company will be pocketing HALF of her pay for 3 or 4 months. I felt horrible, DH accused me of not being able to handle the ''human element'' properly. Which is true but i, like the OP, didn`t get the chance to speak with a maid and simply didn`t know what to do. Since then i decided to remove the human element completely and do the job myself.

They will probably punish the maid big time. Make her pay for the damages etc... It happened to us a year ago, i am done with the maids since then. This is the unfortunate thing. If she told me I wouldn't have called the agency or asked her to pay from her own money etc. Accidents happen, but it's the fact she left without telling me that really annoys me. Waiting for the manager to call me back.... edited by EJC on 21/09/2011 Exactly. All i wanted from the maid is to TALK to me, i don`t bite! I think she was just too scared of everything, really... After we complained to the management things got so bad between her, us, the agency that we had to quit it altogether. I really liked her though:(

I agree with sarassister, Clarins is fantastic for mature skin. I have been using beauty flash balm as a treatment mask for ages! I love it despite that i can`t use this under my make-up (too shiny for my skin type) but it works miracles for people with dryer skins. Also, i think that experimenting and mixing the foundation in the palm of your hand with your day cream creates the right proportion of coverage-moisture for any skin type.

I would wear white knee-length bermuda shorts, it`s flattering for most people and looks great on the beach. Top will be a combination of blue and white, low contrast between upper and lower part of your attire will visually elongate your body. If you wear thin stripes you will get nautical inspired look:) I think blue-white nautical look is super stylish, and very retro chic. I so want to go on a yacht trip now!

The UK, Australia, Canada etc have more foreigners through their borders than the UAE will ever have. Every single person that is allowed to work in those countries are treated the same as the nationals. The point I was making earlier is that you can’t have a different price range for the same job based on nationality that is just blatant racism, especially when they are all classed as unskilled workers, it should be (for example) 1,400 DHS for all nationalities wanting to work as a maid. [b'>I found it quite enlightening to see the posters defending the wage differences were either long term residents of the UAE or married to Emiratis. [/b'> Good observations. Living in UAE can turn you into a racist.

I am an expat myself and I can never call UAE a racist country... wtf??? seriously??? come shopping with my husband and I any day of the week and see how we get treated in this F* racist country... i being a white person and him being Indian ;) then you can tell me if you still think its [b'>not [/b'>a racist country Hahah! I am white, DH is from the subcontinent, i know exactly what you mean. Everything gets sorted out so much faster when i`m around. He once was called ''a driver'' and myself ''the madame'' by a sales staff in Debs! LOL! We keep the copy of our marriage certificate in the car, just in case of a police check up or anything, because nobody believes that we are a couple! edited by Wild Mint on 15/09/2011

So much to Learn? The lesson to be learnt is the future of Middle east societies, maids and cheap labour will do nothing but damage for the long term of a country and its natural inhabitants. Look now at the obesity and diabetes rates in the region, blood pressure, heart problems, the list is endless and expats too. I overheard a rather large (obese) western lady today walking with her maid explaining she had to be careful as she had blood pressure issues!! Laziness, a culture of laziness creeping through producing generations of lazy people. Expats breeding like rabbits because the help is cheap, is this a reason to have children? Children who turn around when asked to do something and state it is the maids job, just had a child here today who stated that, her mother was mortified. Really this look how well i treat my slave/maid nonsense cracks me up, if they were treated that well they would not be working for an unfair wage and working the hours they are expected with no ownership. edited by QF2011 on 15/09/2011 The above should be awarded as the best post of the year.
