FarmGirl, you are my hero, i love your post! I read tonnes of literature on healthy eating and doing pilates at home, I had pretty much the same routine as you are for a year, dropped 2 dress sizes, got some muscles, quit my arthritis medications etc...i felt amazing and looked better than in my twenties... But being inactive due to the summer heat, poor ramadan-vacations diet... Now i have to start over! I feel like a complete loser after achieving the unachievable!:( You wrote a real good stuff, it inspires me again!

We stayed there 2 years ago. The hotel is quite dated, unless it has been renovated since then. Anyhow, it`s clean and peacefull, rooms are comfy. Very interesting location- on top of the mountain. There is observation deck with telescopes, and generally the view from the hotel is very nice. Our room was facing the pool area which was very well made and beautiful. We liked pool the most, since there isn`t much going on inside of the hotel anyway. Staff was accomodating and i remember the rate was very reasonable too. Food was unmemorable, but again, the view from the buffet terrace was great.

Is it just me or is anyone else finding these UK/Dubai comparison threads old and tiresome now? And I know I can opt not to read them and when the thread title is clear that this is what it is about then I don't read those threads. I opened this one to read about house prices in Dubai! What has safety of the UK got to do with it?? And it's always the same people with the same opinions. You are not going to change each other's minds!!! Nope, it`s not just you...

Having my dinner in a smoke cloud bothers me a lot too. But Reem Al Bawadi has always been this way. I'm a smoker myself and despite that it`s revolting to have someone blow smoke at me while i am eating. So yeah, it`s not great especially for kids. The food is consistently good though.

Thanks for the feedbacks! We will be going to Reem Al Bawadi on Saturday. I thought they would be good for Iftar! The price is quite cheap, since dining a la carte will cost about 100 per head anyway. Fish and desserts is what i look for in a buffet, and i love Lebanese sweets:) I have a feeling that this one is going to be the best of all ''budget'' Iftars! I didn`t really enjoy Iftar in other places, food was very awerage i thought.

As someone whose religion forbids pregnancy outside wedlock as well, I still prefer seeing teenage pregancies rather than see a new mother locked up with a baby in a jail until she can get her attested marriage certificate.... You can have a mindset where people make mistakes and pay for it, or a mindset where every mother is an immoral woman untill proven otherwise with a attested marriage certificate edited by Arch on 17/08/2011 This reminded me of one moronic woman`s letter in 7 days. Who was screaming that all women who got impregnated ''unholily'' must be thrown in jail. Because it`s haram. And because she, as a mother and as a woman knows better. :\: That letter still haunts me!

I think we should respect people's opinion here. I think how much you pay your maid also depends on how much is your own income! If my salary was [b'>50,000 AED a month I would pay 5000AED to my maid! and If I was paid 5000AED a month I would try to find someone who is ready to work for me for AED 500!! [/b'>we should remember there are some people out there who need to stay here even if we only provide them a home and food since their condition at their home country is devastating! I am not defending anybody here , you know that there are laborers and cleaners here who are paid as little as AED 300 net! with a hopeless accommodation! I pay mine 1500AED plus plus plus, because I can afford only this much and if I could I would pay more to help her. she is lovely and very very happy. There are so many things in life that are not fair! and this is one ! that we can live lavishly and afford a maid and some people have to clean our house and still be happy! I wish we were all given the same! I agree with you completely. Great post!

Thank you all :) Yep, i`m feeling a lot better, temperature is 37.4 which is basically normal, hopefully it`s the end of story. [b'>summerdream[/b'>, because of your earlier posts, i did note down contacts/directions to Rashid hospital. It`s always good to have it even if i won`t be needing it this time. Honestly speaking, i wasn`t considering government hospital as an option, and i have been living in Dubai a decade! So the information i find on EW is kind of priceless really. Right, i don`t have medical insurance. I`m currently unemployed and feel guilty for being a burden on DH.

An indication to you if it is this is may be if you have had urine infection (burning etc) that you have left untreated. Its usually this that leads to the infection. This is the only symptom which i don`t have, so i was hoping this isn`t it... They got me to the hospital unconscious when i had pyelonephritis before. It was pretty bad, i was hospitalized for maybe a month or so. But it happened more then 20 years ago, so i wasn`t expecting it now... You are all scaring me to be honest. I was hoping that maybe there is some kind of home treatment or something, like antibiotics.. I will wait for DH to come home. It`s so awful! Going to the hospital means thousands and thousands of dhs will have to be spent again!!! :(

Actually you should have answered the door (with the bolt on if you are really unsure), showing someone is home is a deterrent, most thieves are opportunists, ask him what he wants what company he is from, ask for a contact number for you to check on and ask for ID. if He is legit he will give you the information you ask for, if he is dodgy you will soon tell and tell him you are calling the police. If you seem confident, positive and assertive he will back off and go elsewhere. Warn your neighbours that someone has been snooping and do not divulge any information about your schedule- ie holiday information etc. If you are really nervous then before you answer the door shout as if you are talking to someone upstairs so it appears someone else is in the house. Have your phone in your hand and do not let them distract you. Keep it as short as possible, a simple I'm no interested but thank you and close the door will do. Do not say come back when my husband is here as that clearly says my husband is not here. Thank you for your input. We don`t have the door bolt, but now going to install one. DH doesn`t want me to open the door to strangers when i`m alone, so i don`t. We asked the police a several times to take the fingerprints, but they obviously didn`t want to do it and instead kept asking DH what HE wants to do. Most of a dialogue was in arabic too, which we don`t know. This is the first time we dealt with the police and we didn`t know all the nuances such as we had to insist for fingerprints to be taken as Chocs said. We went to the security office, but no one was there. We will be going again in the evening. We already warned our neighboors, but there is no sence of community really, people won`t even open the door, we don`t even know how most of them look like and lots of people are away. Corridors are empty, which made me think that if a guy had a knife and stabbed both of us, no one will even come out to help. Nobody wants to get involved. edited by Wild Mint on 14/08/2011

Are break-ins rare or pretty common in Dubai? Been in Dubai almost a year and don't know anyone who has expereinced one.... I don't get why you wouldn't answer the doorbell or why the OP didn't call the police... I DID call them. They came 45 minutes later.

Went today to both-Mumbai Se and Khaadi in the Fest.City. Khaadi: for a rather simple embroidery, everyday kind of shalwars 200-300DHS, they are 100% cotton and overall nicely crafted, pretty colors. Worth the price IMO. Outfits for special occasions, weddings, etc.: absolutely STUNNING and luxurious, gorgeous colors and embroidery, pure silk, light as air, it was difficult to leave without one... These are more expensive, 1000+, but i had the impression that they aren`t expensive enough. I HAVE to have one for Eid! Mumbai Se: the style is totally different here, outfits aren`t meant to be worn on traditional gatherings, lots of short and tiny cocktail dresses, very glitzy and glamorous, and are twice as expensive as Khaadi: long party dresses 2500 or more. It's worth checking out even if you won`t shop there. HTH :)

Seeing bars in Bangkok packed with western 'domesticated' man, made me think that those are someone else`s husbands, are they not?? Or any middle-aged chap trying to hook up in Dubai`s DD, or bars in Westin, you name it... Are they all single? Or perhaps it`s one of those pleasure/taking time off trips? So why shouldn`t it be crossing my mind?

Khaadi is good. Panache? Adnan something? There is another one starting with B... can't recal the name. Pakistani ladies recommended to me Khaadi, they do nice outfits for special occasions, made of chiffon or silk-just what i need. There is a shop in Festival city, next to Nine West, I`m going to look for it sometime soon. Also, if you shop there during the sale, the prices are the same like in Pakistan, cheap.

Are Jumeirah village circle and Sports City really THAT far? How far is it from SHZ road, or, lets say, from the the usual landmarks - major malls...The rents are very low while the apartments are new and pretty big, so i am wondering what`s the catch. Any ladies living there or at least seen the areas? What`s your opinion? I've heard a lot of people saying that its not far at all, my DH is one of them, but when we went to see them i wanted to run away, its just "OUT" of everything, you can barely see Dubai, it doesnt seem too far when you drive, but to me it did seem like entering "Matrix"....:\: i just wouldnt be able to live there, maybe in a few years now its a whole big construction mess! Thank you. Not an option for us then, as i need to be able to walk out of the house and see the 'life'... There is always a catch!
