Better yet take the x23 express bus-usually no problem getting a seat in the ladies section and it is a quick trip there-not quite so direct on the way back as you need to take a connecting bus to the x23 now but still fine

Quite a few companies make fleecy throws-lap or bed sized-which can be personalised with photos: http://www.personalthrows.com/Photo_Fleece_PersonalThrow_s/303.htm They are both practical and personal-nice for your gran-made my auntie one and it was a gret talking point in her nursinng home

The problem here is the water is never cold and things like blood will set in warm water-you need to pretreat first-may not be the washing machine that is to blame here!

We will take back some lovely Syrian inlaid small pieces of furniture when we go-chess table, side tables etc-also our rugs-not expensive ones but they are so expensive to buy back home for some reason

The abra crosses the Creek between the gold and silk markets and costs a dirham each way-just be sure the attendant pulls in close and helps them on. The water taxi-the cheap red and white ones-are enclosed and go between Baniyas Station (Deira side) and the Textile souk-they cost 4 dhs each way-there are also private one which cost a mint. You can also hire an abra for an hour or so for your own private Creek tour.Parking near the Creek is problematic-we always walk down- so best to take a taxi-the museum and Bastikiya are also near by.

I'd never seen such deep sleepers until I flew for a living. Amazing how quickly people nod off, especially when jetlagged. Another common one is literally having to drag people off because they've taken a Xanax or Ambien and haven't timed it right!! :O Glad I am not alone! Mind you I never get jet lag or take anything (including alcohol)-plane travel just sends me to sleep!

Still seems unfair-not being paid for working I mean-will try and stay awake for the chocolates-I am somewhat ashamed to confess I generally sleep the whole way to Australia so no wandering down the aisles-I always have to put the 'please wake me for meals' sticker on-and even then they have to shake me awake- because I am fast asleep within 5 minutes of take-off! It's pretty standard in the US & Europe... I've only been paid for working from signing in back in Oz. US crew have the same. So if you wonder why they are eagerly ushering you to your seat and asking you to put your stuff away... now you know!! :D The other day I was trying to wake a guy up, i usually put a hand on someone's shoulder and squeeze gntly to avoid scaring them.... he grabbed my arm and just about yanked me over the seat before he realised what was going on, lol... Don't think I become violent-one hostess did tell me I couldn't possibly be so fast asleep as we had only been in the air 5 minutes!

Sorry should have said flight staff... not for all flights just during a few hours' window when they've got the mass departures taking place in between airshow stuff. Lol weird!!! Yeah lacto means there should be dairy in it so not sure why they take the cheese- having said that it can depend on where the food comes from as I have seen cheese on VL trays, def not on VG trays though... Try asking the crew am sure thye would be happy to offload it so htey don't eat it themselves! usually one or two extra trays from people who don't want to eat. Ditto on the cheese. When they come to pick up the tray just ask if there might be any left as you didn't get one on your (dairy approved!) tray!! Back to the original subject, don't worry all the airport people have to go to work early too!! grrr not being paid for that either!! haha Wouldn't bother to disturb anyone just for a choccie-hate passengers who ring th call bell every 5 secs.It would seem reasonable for you to get overtime surely.Are they expecting airport access to be bad in the morning too?

I wish I had that power.... my abilities only extend to sneaking in for a bit of garlic bread or a choccie every so often ;) Sadly it's not like home where the airport staff were authorised to upgrade as they saw fit... always took slight glee in upgrading a nice person right in front of someone who'd been stomping their feet and having a tanty at the counter... always drove them mad and hopefully taught the cranky ones some manners!!! :D Well failing an upgrade chocolates would have suited me just fine!!!! I never get the little chocolate in economy because i put down lacto-vegetarian and they seem to think that excludes chocolates-and cheese-go figure-grrrrrr

Have you looked in the Radley stores-good quality and in your budget I second that!! I was oh so lucky and picked up four Radley bags at their final sale in Dubai (thanks Simone :D ). One is now much loved by my sister, the other three are in regular use with me. Great quality at a good price, even full price is worth every penny, and I get nice comments about them all the time. :D Sent BH to that sale as I was back home-he was trying to describe bags over the phone to me so he knew what to buy! Luckily I did quite well-can't wait for their new MOE store to open

I have the largest cockroach ever in my bedroom and I want rid of it - NOW. My maintenance company said they can't come until tomorrow and also they will use a spray - I don't want sprays as i have a dog. I need a company today to get rid of it - its too high for us to reach. Can anyone give some recommendations please. Thank you Vacuum it up!

I clearly lost my mind yesterda too and ventured to IKEA (glad I did though to get the Xmas stuff that is selling out fast) and JBR, The Walk.. Oh my goodness I have never seen so many people down there! Was there Christmas stuff other than that at the front of the market hall by the check-outs? Wasn't tempted by anything I saw-which is unusual for me! There were some pretty glasses in the kitchen section (every day drinking glasses, some champagne glasses and wine glasses) and some really pretty cake tins too (White and grey snowflakes). There were the usual napkins and holders, wrapping paper and bags, candles, star lights etc. I love my cake tins! BH would not be impressed if I bought more tins-did wander across the road to ACE though-they had some nice things too

It isn't a bad walk-but there are usually plenty of taxis at the station so you can get to Times Square for 10 dhs-easier to walk back though given the one ways roads which means the taxis have to do a round about trip to get you back

Pity you only have Friday morning-you won't find any fabric unique to Dubai in these stores-mostly imported cottons-the only way I have found something that is a bit different is to buy cotton rice bags like the Black Camel brand-bit like the old way of using flour sacks in the 30s-the bags have Arabic and English writing on and Middle Easter nimagery-just a thought-and at least available on friday mornings though you will have to dispose of a lot of rice as they are often 5kg bags!!!

I'm glad your son was not hurt when the glass broke. I would not be happy about her leaving a 4 year old unattended and she must understand that she's not to leave the children unsupervised in the future. Oh for godness sake you you mean that you NEVER leave your 4 year old unattended to play for themselves for a minute? - you never go to the loo? - never go to clean a different room while they are playing happily? - never pop to the kitchen ? Accidents happen - I don't think it's even healthy to keep a child under surveillance every minute of the day Furthermore she is a maid and not a trained nanny so no doubt had other work to get on with.

Well we went a couple of says ago at 4 pm, no problem. There were still about 20% still setting up, but a lot were up and running. It was 10 dhs to get in. Well worth it we thought. Thanks for that-love Global Village

The queue in to Global village from Mirdif direction at 6 pm this evening was at least 2 km,3 lanes wide, and stretching back onto Emirates road. Coming the other way the traffic was moving freely. It would have been much quicker to drive past the Global Village exit, turn around at next junction and enter from Motor City end. Is everything up and running once you get in?

I wish someone like AnonDubai, who is very familiar with the local culture would come join us in this thread and shed some light on this. Why on why, spend precious family moments, during a blessed holiday, at a mall?!??!!?:\: They are out enjoying time meeting up with their extended families-which is lovely to see-they are there to have a meal together and perhaps watch the fountains-it isn't just about the shopping-many are here from neighbouring Gulf States too-it has been crowded all week-we waited an hour and a half for a taxi last Thursday at about 8pm-can't imagine what the queues were like later

Always lots of room on a night flight we never book in and most times get upgraded - I always let Dh do the talking as he seems to have a way with the ladies ! ;) we always head to the business check in as most time he flies bc Lucky-the last night flight we took to GB was jam packed -and it was mid week and not during a holiday period either BA ?? No-Emirates

Get to know a pilot from every major airline ! That always helps lol I think arriving early is a major yes and also don't book in online prior to travelling that way you are unallocated and stand a better chance of being upgraded .. And being nice and friendly to the counter lady always helps ! Don't know what route you fly but flights to Australia alwaus seem full and if you didn't check-in on line you risk being stuck in the middle of a centre row down the back by the toilets-wouldn't take that risk on a long flight on the off-chance of an upgrade.....

Only been upgraded once and that was for the two of us-weren't dressed to the nines but we did arrive very early at check-in and BH has a gold card-but in reality I think it was more they needed our paricular economy seats to allow a group to sit together so we were probably just plain lucky

Hey they should be able to extend their stay by paying a fine. If they travelled on Emirates they simply go to their office pay a fine and have an extra month to stay. Otherwise, I believe they would pay the fine on their way out of the country at the airport. Pretty sure they would need to pay the fine AND pay for an extension on their visa-or do a visa run and pay that way

Meant to add last year when we went down the Creek the young Emiratis were dancing a dabke (traditional dance) and at the end of the line there was an elderly Emirati leaning on his walking frame, waving his cane and joining in enthisiastically-made my day ;)

Here you go http://en.uaenationalday.ae/ Just love National Day-so disappointed I am going home before it this year. We always go down the Creek-Bur Dubai side and watch all the locals heading down the Creek in decorated abras and all manner of water craft-lots going on along the Creek and at Heritage Village too and the local lads in incredibly decorated UAE themed cars- and the fireworks at night are wonderful too. Fun ro go down to Satwa too and see all the various outfits available for National Day-don't you just love the little girls all dressed up in the UAE flag dresses
