chips are chips ! and its IRN not IRON :D hang on, are you saying that you would accept a freshly cooked cod and 30 minute old chips on your plate for your dinners? I like soggy chips the best anyway! Takes me back to childhood walking home with them wrapped in newspaper and getting soggy with the steam while we burrowed a hole in the end to sneak some out hoping mum wouldn't notce!

Yes we did get down there last evening. Amazed by the fireworks etc...wouldn't have guessed they were illegal at all from last night! It was great soaking in the vibe..thanks for the recommendation :) So glad you made it down our way-lovely atmosphere was't it:)

Awwww thanks ladies! Wuffles...am headed in that direction shortly :) Terrible_twos...hmmmm.. rice powder and food colour..have just realised how inadequate my pantry is :) i certainly don't have those to hand. Fireworks going off everywhere, buildings all lit up, excited children in party clothes -and ladies in the most gotgeous saris-love this time of year in Bur Dubai

Ah, DD, you are American. That explains it. We Americans are the only ones who seem to think our home country is much, much better than Dubai. Erm....No Dubai, in many respects, is cheaper than Australia but you would be hard pressed to find an Aussie who says that Dubai is 'better'. Maybe Aussies are able to adapt more easily ( and whinge less ;) ) I don't know ... I'm married to an Aussie who seems to do more than his share of whinging! Maybe many Aussies come for the adventure rather than the money-financially we would be better off back "home" and the job market isn't bad there in my husbaand's field anyway-but it is nice to be here and a bonus to be able to travel to places that we could never afford to get to from home-doing my retirement travel now instead of later!

Here's wishing everyone a very happy Diwali!! May the year ahead be filled with joy and prosperity!! :) What are those who are celebrating doing today? For my first Diwali (in Dubai and since my wedding) I shall light a few lamps at home...and head in the Bur Dubai direction later this evening to find the Diwali vibe ( as suggested by some ladies on here) :)) Should be quite different than Diwali in London! Have a brilliant day!!:) Enjoy the celebrations-looking lovely all lit up Creekside in Bur Dubai-try the souks and Meena Bazaar for some Diwali atmosphere too-but watch out for the illegal firecrackers!

Lots of buildings around Karama and Bur Dubai are lit up-fireworks are illegal but you will see them being set off in all the carparks and on vacant lots. To enjoy the atmosphere walk along the Creek from around the Saudi embassy right down to the markets to see all the families dressed to the 9s and out celebrating-Meena Bazaar has a great holiday atmosphere just now too

I use my Aussie address (we still have a home there) and just change the shipping address to here-most sellers will be happy to do that but email them before bidding because the odd one won't as Paypal won't insure for shipping to a different address-at least that is my understanding

Good luck with the move though much as I love my home country I can't say I feel the same. Our landlord is wonderful-be it for a broken light bulb or something major-no car so no fines!- but love the metro and buses to get us everywhere. Wish the exchange rate for home was better but otherwise quite content

Went along this morning, it was a lovely 'field trip' from AD, beautiful venue of course, the breakfast was delicious, the speaker engaged us all, and was very interesting. Saw beautiful things, met lovely people and felt very special and pampered. Well done EW ! Will definitely attend next year. Lucky you-have always wanted to go but is is over my budget-plus was stuck at the dentist having a root canal today-also over my budget............Glad you had a great time

Yep- Bur Dubai is the place to be-buildings lit up like Chriistmas trees and heaps of those illegal crackers-but what I love best is walking along the creek and through the markets looking at the families all out together with the little ones in their new party dresses twirling about-so cute!

I had one done for myself and my daughter at the stand at Mercato-both have our own and husband's names entwined-daughter's was tear-drop shaped and mine a heart. Most jewellers do them too-but we were impressed by the calligraphy there-BH is Arabic so he was fussy about that aspect!

Ok I never time. Dropped my car off and got on at GGICO, came back to BB and it took AGES. Still love it though. Took the Green line the other night from Ghababia (sp) and then on to the red line to BB, not as quick as a taxi but for 2.60dhs (?) it's awesome. I love it. Me too-been here 6 years and we don't have a car yet-so spend lots of time on the Metro and buses

Yep-it takes just under 40 mins to MOE and Ibn Battuta is quite a way further-add in another 5 mins if you plan to walk to the dhopping centre too <em>edited by wuffles on 10/10/2011</em>

I saw a stall last week outside Book World on the 2nd floor of Dubai Mall but to be honest I can't remember if it was only Ferrari or for the Grand Prix. Maybe call Book World and ask them. Thanks -will tahe a look-didn't notice one on the weekend though

The shop in Ferrari World at Yas has by far the best selection in merchandise. The shop entrance is on the other side of the ticket desks to Ferrari World so you don't need a ticket to get in. Thanks but I am in Dubai-and we have no car-trying to find somewhere 'local' but maybe they have stopped promoting it in Dubai Still 5 weeks until the AD GP so am sure there will be plenty merchandise appearing soon. Fingers crossed-heading 'home' in 4 weeks so hopefully will find something soon

I don't know about in Dubai but usually in the week before the race they have 'F1 Fanzone' on the Corniche in Abu Dhabi and when I went there was a merchandise stall there. Thanks-no car so I am not sure I can get down there-bit far to go on the bus-even for a very nice son-in-law

i'd say the point of buying the merchandise at the race is that it's a souvenir of having been there so i wouldn't expect to be able to buy the stuff anywhere else tbh... I am inclined to agree BUT in the past they sold tickets and merchansise at Dubai Mall so I was hoping a promotion might be going on somewhere-son in law is in Australia so he has no chance of going

Has anyone seen any Grand Prix merchandise in Dubai-I have previously bought some at a stall In Dubai Mall but haven't seen any around this year. Son in Law is an F1 fanatic and I would love to find him at least a t-shirt and cap from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this year

You can catch a bus there from Khalid bin al Whalid Station for sure-and also I think Deira City Centre-bit of a meandering trip but fine if you don't mind taking the scenic route!
