Just called up the clinic and they're asking me very cooly whether it's ok for them to give me the result tomorrow???!!! Wtf??!!! I could so scream right now! Anyway begged the nurse to touch base with the lab and ask for a result today itself! Does anyone here have any idea how long a beta hcg test normally takes? The test should only take an hour according to BH

How long have you and your son lived in Middle East ? I ask because m son has considered joining the armed forces. He is born and bred in Middle East - sees it as his home and has many friends who are from varius Arabic countries. We have long, long chats about what would happen when he is sent to Iraq or such a place to fight. He loves the Middle East and the people and for him it would be a big issue to go into these countries as a potential enemy. So that has been decided against. The latest saga in Libya has really turned him off the whole idea - not because he is scared but because he simply doesn't agree with what we are doing there. Having said that I have huge respect for those who do go out and live and work in awful conditions for terrible pay, putting their lives at risk on a daily basis. True heroes. edited by dmum on 30/05/2011 That is a great point you are making-I wonder whether the army considers that when enlisting-or just considers a knowledge of the region and language as an advantage-tough call isn't it

My fiancé said that he is taking him to his sister as he is smelling something fishy in my messages :) :) (like Me keeping him) but I am going to tell him that I need a week for a him to settle down and then I will start advertising for him or if he wants to take him to his sister.. Maybe he will get along with my 2 female cats.. I am totally in love with him and I think if I keep him this will be the last cat to come to my house for fostering :( My neighbour said that too-she is currently up to No 10 "last cat for fostering"-I suspect she will make it an even dozen one day!

Thanks everyone have looked in the pork section but no luck want to try my hand at homemade pork pie and need the gelatine to make the jelly to pour into it. Will try Lulu but really looking for non flavoured gelatine Has anyone seen it in any waitrose in Marina Mall or Dubai Mall? Waitrose at Dubai Mall had it but it may not have been pork-based-will do the same job though

OP- I am soo sorry for hijacking your thread..but feel an explanation is due as I hate the Jumeira Janes to think I am into returning used goods and getting by on freebies.. Ok- clarity's sake- I bought a pair of shoes (let me call them exhibit A) on 22 may at aed 275. on 24 may the store went on sale ( I presume) on 25th morning i went back to store to pick up something else- with daughter in tow( now wearing exhibit A) Noticed the whole store was on sale and found that Ex A was now priced at aed 205 Asked very friendly sales lady if I could get the sale price difference as credit for using in the store- as I had purchased Ex A 3 days earlier on full price and no one had told me a sale was coming on in 2 days ( usually shop there and get excellent service- no I don't return once used garments or shoes for a full refund and haven't ever done ) She asked me whether I had the receipt, I said yes- she asked me if I had the shoes- I said daughter is wearing them now- she said as they are worn, we can't do a refund, but if they were not worn, we could return them at aed 275 and I could either choose to buy the pair on sale at aed 205 or just stay happy with the refund. I said I do not want to return them- am just feeling cheated that no one told me about a sale when I bought those shoes and would have liked it if they had said that I could use the differential as store credit since I had asked. I said- I do not want to return the shoes, only get perhaps store credit or a credit of the differential. Phew!! Thanks-makes more sense now you have explaned more fully. I know when my daughter worked in a clothing store back home staff were never told of up-soming sales in case they leaked the news to customers and missed potential sales-so perhaps that is the case here too

Wow! Looks like I was away and it created a huge to-do about ethics- I said return and buy the same pair. Meaning, effectively, it gets returned at original price- [b'>without[/b'> my surrendering the pair and the refund gets credited- as I buy it back( the same piece)- this is normal in the States if there is a sale within 7 days of the original purchase- maybe it was way too much for the IQ of those on here to understand the logic:\: perhaps the same for the sales girl! Understood what you were saying-(nothing to do with IQ)just didn't agree with what you proposed to do-you are making extra work for the salesgirls because you missed the sale. Imagine the queues if everyone who had bought goods the week preceeding the sale did what you propose

Ow I see you buy a new thing return the new and ask for your money back. Of course, much better then waiting until sales are on and having the risk your size is gone... :\: Ok, colour me stupid, but I don't get the point of that - she'll be refunded the same price as she paid for the shoes in the sale, having just bought them for the sale price? What's the point? She would be refunded the price on the first docket so she ends up getting the shoes at the sale price-not right though IMHO

Enlarge and photocopy alphabet letters-trace them onto freezer paper (this is now your template)-use this as your template-iron double sided fusible webbing onto the fabric you are appliqueing-iron the freezer paper onto this-cut around your shape-peel applique webbing off the now cut out leters and iron it to the base fabric-sew around it if you plan to wash the item

Just a question- if you buy an item, and notice within 5 days that it is on sale, and you have started to use it, but now it is cheaper by say 40%( within 5 days) what would you do? Would you go back? I went to sun& sand- bought shoes for my daughter- this was last friday- 22nd. on 27th I went back to the mall and incidentally my daughter was wearing those shoes- I noticed that the price had dropped by 30%- i asked the sales lady, if she would let me return the shoes and buy the same at the sale price and she disagreed- she said they were worn already and she couldnt do so anymore. Was very upset as if she had done so, I would have saved 70aed. Can I do something about it as this thread brought this back to my mind.. Not once they have been worn-it is just bad timing on your part-annoying but if everyone tried to do that when sales started there would be chaos

Ended up going to the Blue Dental clinic on JBR cause I was scared to go to Karama at night on my own. It was an abscess so he gave me antibiotics and told me to come back next week to see what needs done. Gonna go back to your guy though cause he charged me 680dhs for 5 min look and x-rays! Thanks for thinking about me. :) Glad you got something sorted-don't think Karama is scary at night by the way-bustling and busy maybe-but not scary

Sounds like he will have a very supportive mum behind him which makes all the difference-and he is such a lovely lad I imagine he would fit in very well and cope with the demands of the training When would the next intake be?

For sure I don't want him to be trained to then be in the front line but I do respect his wish to get a career whilst in the Army. He told me his reason for joining that he would not get a career back home that would train him as well as the Army. I'm actually quite proud of him. Personally I think it will be the making of him but yes, I am afraid that he is then sent in to do other duties Would the Police Force be another option?

Have to selfishly say I am relieved my Boy Wonder will never be well enough to sign up-his rwo cousins did mind you and for one it was a good experience-though he has now left to join the Police as he suffered a back injury during active service-the other cousin did not fare so well

Happy Birthday, Ladies, hope the day improves for both of you. Out of curiosity, KB, did your husband completely forget it was your birthday, or just not get you any tokens to mark it? Oh he hadn't forgotten! According to him he just didn't have the time. Nevermind the fact that he's known for a whole year and just been on a trip and had hours in duty free. Hmmm...not impressed. Both my DS's and I have been quite poorly and still feel cr@ppy, so honestly, I was going to write today off anyway, so I don't know why I'm so upset?! Just a card would have been nice though:-( Anyway, I've just had 2 strong cold/flu tablets and I've left him downstairs with the boys. I'm off for a nice long soak in the bath. Lock the door and don't come out till he has dinner on the table then!

Wuffles, he loves it when I give him a massage and always begs for one so I had no idea he would react this way. I certainly would not book him for a massage if he hated one in the first place. Lets hope he ends up liking it. EvenStar, I sure do hope so! I'll update you if that will be the case! In that case I am sure he will end up enjoying it-and the thoughtful gesture behind it

Thanks for the nice words ladies. There’s just so much that comes on top of it... and I just don’t know what to think about first! I don’t want to stay here on my own, so will be moving back to my country. So have to resign, get my stuff out of here and most importantly my dogs. And I even had a nice holiday package booked for next week. What a waste :( So sorry to hear you are going through tough times-I am sure now the decision is made you will be feeling relief amongst all the other feelings-can you perhaps postpone the trip you booked and use it as a cushion between leaving here and going back home-just to get some 'me' time after the rush of packing and sorting all the loose ends

Be careful what you wish for Baffled, they do have a ladies only taxi service (or did) in Dubai. If you think the fellas are surly and uncooperative - try putting a sourpussed cow behind the wheel. I tried them a couple of times, went back to using the regular cabs. The other problem is the ladies have restricted times and places they can drive to-and one is the airport-which is a bit problematic as they often won't help with putting heavy suitcases in or out-otherwise have had no problems with their driving or attitude

So basically if you walk along the Creek from the Britsish embassy area-Bur Dubai side-you pass the dhow restaurants-then at the start of the mosque fence the Basttikiya area is to your left (usually a camel there-and a falcon in the cooler weather) and the coin and stamp museums and art exhibitions-past the mosque is the textile market-walk through that-keep walking -on your left is the architectural museum, horse and camel museums (the last two are further in-rarely visited and rather hard to find-not always open but the guard will often open them if you ask nicely!), cultural village, diving museum etc.......all open at assorted hours-and not always those advertised!!-keep going and eventually you reach the tunnel under the creek (security guards at either end and cameras in the tunnel) or turn back and take an abra across from the textile market to the spice and gold souks-remembering the spice souq shuts the earliest at around 9/9.30 pm <em>edited by wuffles on 27/05/2011</em>

aha do you mean the place on your right as you drive through Shindagha tunnel?... Is that on the Deira side then rather than the Bur Dubai side? Could you get to it by walking from the spice souk area? Don't drive-only walk but it is on the Bur Dubai side -if you are coming from the spice souq side in Deira you need to catch an abra across or walk under the Creek-the latter would be a fairly long treck.It is certainly walkable from the Bur Dubai side-though maybe not advisable in the heat of the day!

what about the heritage centre, its great albeit busy on a friday night, they sometimes have traditional dancing, they have ladies cooking food to sample for a donation, we had our picture taken in traditional dress which was fun, lots of things to browse around. a fun and informative time out. its lovely to walk along the creek especially if the weather was lovely like last night. i cant think of anything more relaxing than getting an abra ride up and down the creek for an hour, its bliss. get some pakora from one of the little shops near the abra station just at the end of the souk. yum yum Is that what those tasty nibbles are called?-they are yummy! They keep threatening to modernise the abras-I hope they don't

I used to use busses. I love public transport. Unfortunately my roots and timing no longer fit, but i refuse to buy a car, just hireing in the hopes that soon i can rely on public transport again! Keep checking-quite a few routes have been added or changed lately

Hi ladies I was thinking about writing about the buses in a new thread - to share my experience. I am here for a short while after travelling and have a teeny budget, so I have been having fun using the free buses which are provided by the malls. If you head to the Habtoor, or Movenpick in JBR and ask the concierge will give you the bus timetables. If Im heading to Bur Dubai i catch the Burjuman bus, and there are regular buses to the Dubai Mall and MOE. Very reliable and totally free! Even the buses you pay for are cheap, clean and reliable. Have used them for 6 years (no car) and have no complaints-except for the need for a few more air conditioned bus shelters-neither MCC, Burjuman or the feeder bus to Dubai Mall have bus shelters available
