In any case, it's the Police's job to make sure we're all safe, and it's part of that. It's far better to act and be wrong than to sit by and do nothing. Mmmm-I know-I keep thinking of the photos of her young son she shared on facebook last week-he really liked my brother...

In Australia-but she has a very common surname-and I don't even know the suburb she lives in so no email or phone number either. I just got a weird Facebook message last week saying she had been hoping to go with my brother to my daughter's wedding last November-which sounded whacky as he has been with his new partner 4 years so would hardly of considered taking her but I thought perhaps he had kept her on the back-burner too so didn't like to pry). She also contacted 2 of his 4 daughters on Facebook and listed things like clothes and bags she had given my brother to pass on to them and they said they hadn't had a thing-no idea if she had but it would be like them to throw them out. She also asked them to get in touch so she could sew them some outfits-sounded a bit like she was desperately reaching out.

Thanks-been to al Qasr and it was too expensive for what I want plus the belly dancer was Russian! BH is Arabic and knows the real deal.......will see about Reem Al Bawadi but I suspect at most places the dancers come on quite late. Anyone know if it is near a metro station?

Best friend is arriving tomorrow!!! Can't wait, have missed her soo much!!! Not really doing anything Eastery (is that a word?), but will have roast Lamb tomorrow for dinner. Slightly worried about all the Easter egg hunts, how do you prevent them from melting before you little ones have managed to find them? I remember many years ago we lived in a house with a very very large garden and would find Easter eggs when mowing the lawn untill deep into summer. Guess Dad hid them a little too well ;) We used to love icing sugar easter eggs for the hunts back home-they never melted! Have a great time catching up with your friend

I think most genuine posters start off with something trivial like "where can I buy marmite?". Actually, I would be highly suspicious of anybody who asked for Marmite... we all know it is an inferior version of Vegemite;) I am with you-anyone who prefers Marmite over Vegemite should be carefully monitored

Once you are up you can stay as long as you want-so if there are spaces a while before sunset and you don't mind waiting I guess that might work. Otherwise maybe afternoons as it can be hazy in the mornings.

I have not had it done but was with my mum when she had this done. She said it wasn't as bad as she anticipated (she was a worrier like you) and it was over quite quickly. It sounds a lot worse than it is. Hope that helps. hers was a few years back and i am sure techniques have improved even more since.

Go up before sunset and you can stay till the sun goes down. To get a good overview of the Mall and fountains you can take a free trolley bus that runs every 15 minutes and stops for you to take photos. You can eat in the food court and just sit outside later and watch the fountains-no need to sit at a restaurant for that if you want to save money. Otherwise there are places with fountain views like California Pizza (think that is the name) that might appeal. I know what you mean-took the bus out there from Bur Dubai yesterday-timed it to get out there at 10 and was thinking I would be rattling round there alone as the bus was empty-I was very wrong-couldn't believe how busy it was for that hour of day

If it were me, I would find other ways to motivate him and make him come to me for help. For example, rather than taking away stuff when he doesn't want your help, I would offer to do something cool with him when his homework is finished. As in, "when your homework is all done and done correctly, I'd be happy to take you swimming," ... or to Hagaan Daaz or whatever. And "when you get an A in math, I will take you surfing." Glad mine never wanted to surf:)- sorry couldn't resist!

If he is struggling he will resent your help as he will feel more of a failure-not your intention but it is probably how he feels. As a teacher we need to see the areas where students are struggling and well intentioned parents 'helping' with homework can sometimes mask the real issues. I am not saying all help is wrong but I suspect a talk with the teacher might be in order. if he is simply being lazy he will end up failing his tests which may be the wake up call he needs.

hi all, thanks for the advice.. The agency name is Al Fattah Manpower in Sharjah. This morning my maid called her family. Apparently her husband is in a coma from head and eye injury. Then she started crying asking to be sent home because she thinks her husband might die!? I am still skeptical about the whole thing. According to the last employer, she said her husband leg was "cut". Sounded awful but in the end he found out it was cut as in injured, not amputated! Either the husband is a very reckless guy who managed to get into 2 serious accidents in 2 months or they are playing a game. Either way I just paid 13-14k AED for this!!! Purple, as you said, if this was our situation - we have to make sacrifices and pay everything from our own pockets. So I told her I symphatised with her situation and if she wants to go home, she (or her brother or family) will have to buy her tickets. But still I am worried... what if this is all true and we are just being cold-hearted and mean? Sigh.. I didnt know employing a maid could be so complicated! If we return her to the agency, they will replace her for free, but we will lose the visa fees and have to select a new maid, wait for her to come, train her and she might come with her own set of problems. Do you know anyone who would be willing to phone the hospital and see what the situation actually is? Ask the maid the name of the hospital and say your husband's colleague will phone them-call her bluff and see what happens

It isn't that unusual at that age-some of his friends may have left-others begin to have direction and focus on their studies-or girls!-and some just don't know where they fit in. Mine was similar at that age-he saw others he had been in a group with suddenly become totally focused on getting into uni while others were obsessed with their girl friends and he felt very left out so a dark room with an XBox seemed like the way he escaped-he will sort through things-but not as quickly as you would like perhaps. Just keep the lines of communication open so when he shows signs of interest in this or that you can be there for him

Someone once told me, "Only in America do people call themselves educated yet only speak/understand one language" Just saying...ccdoha... My husband is American. He speaks three languages. As do his siblings and most of his friends. Now. let's see here....how many Europeans or Australians, for example, do only speak one language? Many. Of course, you will find, in almost every country ,people who only speak one language...usually the one that actually is spoken in said country. Now, what does that have to do with Qatar? I loveMarina stuff, but they are mostly very expensive and have found them unwilling to budge on price, even on damaged last pieces. Why not try somewhere like Lucky's in Sharjah, which is a fraction of the price? Have bought several things from them and am very satisfied. Odd-we got 30% off a desk-it wasn't on sale and as they only had a display piece they brought us in one from Abu Dhabi with free delivery included-mind you I am a very persistant haggler!

We are moving to the new house and looking to buy majority of our furniture from "Marina". It would be a great deal of saving for us if we will get those pisces with a discount. I remember last year Marina was on sale starting from min 30% !! Which is great. Just ca not remember which month of the year sale starts there. Is anyone aware of the sale time in Marina store? For any info - even a closes guess - will be very grateful. Thanks! Why not just ask them-prices there are very negotiable anyway-don't hesitate to ask for their best price regardless of what is on the tag

Hi.. I live in the Bur Dubai area also (I think!) I'm very close to the Burjuman, if you would like meet up there for coffee etc.. I would like to go the EW coffee mornings also , I'm planning to go to the Festival city one on Wednesday , if anybody is interesting in going with me.. edited by nnekalb on 16/04/2011 Takes about 45 minutes by bus to Festival City-bus goes the scenic route! Wish they would bring back the Burjuman coffee mornings now the hot weather is coming back-used to be so nice to walk to a coffee morning!

Hi Nicky, welcome to Bur Dubai. Unfortunately the weather is getting warm (but thank goodness not humid yet), otherwise it is a good neighborhood to walk around, and you can walk to Karama for delicious food as well. Wuffles, I have never been to an EW coffee morning, and if you ladies trust my driving, I would be glad to be the chauffeur for Tuesday morning. We can meet at Burjuman?
