Hi and welcome to Bur Dubai. You are in my neck of the woods. I would have you over for coffee but have visitors coming for a week and have studipdly emptied out all the cupboards to do a big clean up so you probably couldn't get through the door. Hopefully everything will fit back in. I think there a few EWs more around your age in Bur Dubai too

i checked out DragonMart... but they had just one print for the Disney Princesses and it looked quite ugly... was hoping for something more pink-ish... :) maybe silk-ish... :) thanks anyways Pity-they had some lovely Disney voiles-did you go to the shops behind the main aisle on each side? Have a great time decorating-loved doing my daughter's room way back when!

I would say Dragon Mart-was there last week and pretty sure I saw Disney Princess curtains and quilts-no promises though as I wasn't specifically looking for such things but they certainly had various Disney curtains

thanks for posting! it's a shame there are no prices (or are there?) There are-on the Where to Buy page-sounds pretty expensive-assume they are US dollars? Online orders are priced at $8 per approx. 90 gram bar excluding delivery

Thank you wuffles & AdviceSeeker. New owners gave him a new name for a fresh start. I checked on him this morning and they told me that they love him to bits :) and he slept with them on the bed :) He deserves a good home after all what he went through.. Great to hear he has settled so well-but I rather liked his old name!

I would definitely go and I would do a day trip to the Pilansberg Game Reserve which offers the big 5. The game park is located in an extinct volcanic crater www.pilanesberggamereserve.com. If you have never seen lions or elephants in the wild, it is a must. It is a 1 ½ drive from Sandton but well worth the drive for what you will see. Your hotel can arrange a day trip with an organised tour group and perfectly safe. Another trip is a tour of Soweto where you can visit Nelson Mandela’s old house and have lunch in a shebeen and get to see some of the diverse culture’s of Africa. http://www.goldreefcity.co.za is worth a visit, where you will have an opportunity to go down an old gold mine. The hotel where you are staying is in the Northern Suburbs which is the prettier part of Johannesburg and is part of the largest man made forest in the world. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_largest_man_made_forest_in_the_world You can always go and have tea at the Westcliffe which overlooks this suburb and the “forest”. There is also great buzz and energy in Joburg, which you won’t find in Durban or Cape Town. Can you recall the costs of visiting the game reserve-tour/driver/entry fees etc?

Youch! You can always use the ordinary bus system-it will take you to virtually all the places the Big Bus does without the double decker views of course. Still for a maximum of 14 dhs a day it is great value. Or combine it with the Metro and the 4dhs water taxis and 1 dh abras-lots of ways to see Dubai on a budget. Best yet if your boys are under 5 they will travel for free edited by wuffles on 14/04/2011

It is. I always get a bit emotional when is comes to SA's issue's. It isn't my home country, but I do love it very very much. The country as a whole has got so much potential! Going on holiday there this August and can't wait! I hope you have a great holiday-stay safe

To be honest, going to Jhb for 2 days and not having any more time to see the rest of the country is not worth it imo. I was there for one day and went to see a lion park which was lovely and the Sandton Mall which is nice too. I was however glad to get back on a plane and fly down to Cape Town for the rest of our stay. Talking about walking in Jhb, I was staying in the Holiday Inn Hotel and walked with one other person to the Mall, about 5 min walk. We were the only white people walking and I was very much aware of my surroundings and vigilant. It was fine, but not pleasant. I lived in the Cape for a year, and met my husband there but I could never live there again. Too much nonsense and violence. If that went away we would move in a heartbeat. Thanks for your honesty-how sad it must be for people to feel unsafe in their homeland If I were you I would go to Italy.

Could you not do some organized tours with other tourists Wuffles? I would definitely go, as there seems to be lots to do on Trip Advisor. Saying that, I have heard that it can be dangerous there, so would take organized tours and not go out too much alone. I don't know the place myself, having only been to Capetown and a tour along the Garden Route. Could your DH extend his stay so that you could go off somewhere together afterwards, such as on safari to Kruger, etc.? No-we can't extend as BH has work committments and I would feel bad doing anything too exiting while he was slaving away-if we could have gone to Capetown or done a safari I wouldn't be hesitating!

Yes-while the movie was on-they even cut it into tiny pieces for easy eating in the dark! I won an EW competition so didn't have to do anything-everyone had the same food- but when you go into the foyer there are menus so you can choose and order. Oh and blankets are provided to keep you warm in the air con edited by wuffles on 13/04/2011

There is a take away in the main food court (Automatic I think is the name?)-not bad but not heaps of variety. Their falafel on a plate-not in a roll-is cheap and yummy. Otherwise there is a sit down restaurant-the name escapes me-but I haven't tried it

Was at Dragon Mart today-it is I think The Golden Phoenix-located in the main aisle on your left hand side about half way up-near the textile section. Hope that is enough information. It isn't a corner store.

Kitty wants to play but older one doesn't. That's similar to my situation. My 3.5 yr old and 1 yr kitten have been together for 14 mths and they still fight and hiss. When I got the second one, it was similar age as yours. Except mine are 2 girls. Unfortunately for me, definitely no love between them! The coexist and tolerate each other, have very occassional moments of intimacy and the chasing/play once in a blue moon!! I wish someone would have told me when I got the second one that half persian (big cat) and arabian may street cat no. 2 don't usually get along. But I am stuck with them, even bringing them 2 brats with me to Shanghai when we move in June!! Wuffles - my kitty is like your younger one, bit thick, so will continue to fight for top cat position and lose all the time!! But its the older one that hisses and growl not the younger one. But who knows your 2 cats may learn to love each other in time to come. It The dumb one-a beautiful lilac Burmese-sadly recently died from a spider bite and the last few days of her life the Siamese was quite protective of her-took her a lifetime to be moderarely nice.....

First thing I wanted to do after catching up with my grown up children and cats was to take the car for a long spin on our empty Aussie roads-then treated myself to proper fish and chips with pumpkin and potato cakes........funny the things you miss-only eat them about once a year back home but had to have some regardless! One of my favourite things back home is hearing the postie zoom up the drive on his motorbike-miss the mail being delivered to the door here yes i miss the mail too.... we won't get any here cos it's being redirected...really weird not to see it on the mat every morning.. would have loved to go off in the car but sadly it's still awaiting repair.. I am sure you will have a great holiday regardless-pity you missed the lightning striking the Burj Khalifa-it was really something-even from a distance!

kids just told me to get off the laptop...apparently I will soon be frazzled Your laptop should have a surge protector, surely? If you're really worried, unplug your laptop from the power source and use battery power only. Plus I'd expect the master trip switches to go before it got that far. All my stuff is plugged in via fused extension cables - best way to go. Wouldn't trust trip switches given the quality of wiring here-using the laptop on battery to play it safe

sounds like the right thing, thanks waxmuch! - why the zip-lock bag? - where to find the acid-free paper? - where did you put the shoes on? on the movers box but inside the original boxes, i guess? I'd be worried about moisture getting trapped in the plastic bag in this climate if they weren't shipped immediately. You'd need to put those moisture absorbing sachets in if you use plastic bags wouldn't you?
