JS-I am sure your mum loves you-even of she has an odd way of showing it. I nursed my dear mum through cancer-stayed home from work and cared from her 24/7. She was bed-ridden, in incredible pain and not the easiest patient. Once every couple of weeks my brother would turn up to visit and she pulled out all the stops-sat up in bed and was so animated and happy-to the extent he was stunned when she died as he really thought I was exaggerating her illness. Looking back I think she needed this though it did hurt at the time. My brother sort of symbolised how things were whereas I had seen her at her very worst and in some ways reminded her she was sick.I am sure your mum does apreciate all you have done and continue to do as mine did-she simply may not have the energy to focus on your younger brother's selfishness or do anything about it. Continue to try and build bridges with her-and please give yourself a big hug too-sounds like you have done everything you can and more over the years

DD never did anything wrong in public, she was terrified of strangers. DS was permanently connected to a 5 point harness until he was able to put it in writing that he would do as he was told. I was ticked off by women who questioned me attaching his harness to the seat at the front of the grocery cart....LIKE HELLLLLLLLLO......this boy can fly. Others always know best-my son needed suction every 5 minutes the first years of his life so I would lug his oxygen and suction equipment along when I went shopping-lost account of the number of times people physically tried to stop me when I was suctionning him and demanded to know what I was doing to my poor baby-when I asked if they'd prefer I let him die they generally backed off.......

This might seem mean but I didn't put the venue on invitations-then the parents had to call to find out where the party/event was being held-and i got a clearer idea of final numbers! Not sure-but speaking as a potential purchaser I would be more likely to seek information on the product/service offered or buy off a website-she could always supplement this with Facebook advertising but I think the website should be the main focus-just my opinion though

Did you store it in an air-tight container? I am thinking the starch in the flour has caused the darkening through contact with the air. Regardless I wouln't store batter longer than one day-better to make up all the pancakes and freeze any left over ones

I suffered thru an approximately 1 hour ride in Al Ain - I'll swear never again... Was black and blue in all unspeakable places! Ugh!!! I probably have more fat to cushion me though!

Pretty good I would say. I lefta very expensive hand embroidered pashmina behind at a crowded concert in Abu Dhabi a couple of weeks back-sent my reluctant husband back to look for it half an hour later and it had been handed in-hope you get the purse back

I'm from Melbourne-Adelaide is nice but dull in comparison! Depends what you want-the weather is more changeable in Melbourne-4 seasons in a week-but that isn't always a bad thing. Schools are excellent in both states but the restaurants and entertainment in Melboune are fantastic. If you are considering flights 'home' to somewhere else Melbourne will have more direct flights so that might be a small consideration.

Mine usually enjoy visiting the main museum-it is cheap -only around 3 dhs-they can have henna painting done there too-it isn't huge but is well set out. There are also the Horse, Camel and Architectural Museums-Cultural and Diving Villages-don't forget the camel and falcon by the mosque-though the falcon is more likely to be there on Saturday than Friday. Meena Bazaar is good fun too to look at the beautiful Indian saris and such. Don't forget to climb the wind towers in the Bastikiya for a nice view of the creek too

We average 200 dhs a week for the 2 of us-I tend to avoid canned and frozen/ready made meals and make things from scratch so I get change left over to save for a night out. I agree it is much easier to budget here than in Australia-basics like Arabic bread, rice and natural yoghurt are way cheaper here

my brother goes to aviation, he says its a 10 minute walk from GIGICO. Not a very pleasant walk in the summer though. My he sometimes gets a friend to drop him off at the station. So the route on the journey planner won't work? Thought it sounded a bit circuitous but so are most roads in Dubai!

It is really expensive-there are stations by the Creek and at Festival City-if you call the number on the stop boards they will give you the price-apparently you can wait qite a while for them to come-we were quoted an hour waiting time-but as the price started at 50dhs per person didn't bother Ordinary water taxis-they ones that have alawys been there (not the abras) cost 4 dhs to go from Baniyas Station to the Textile market-and usually we are the only ones on them!Fine for visitors and you get a good view of the creek in air condtioned comfort.

I love Aussie Masterchef. It is the only thing that gets me through a straight hour on the cross trainer (and I wouldn't eat most of what they cook). My kids wouldn't have either! Still fun to watch

I think the original UK Masterchef has got tired (and emotional ;) ) and has been going too long with the same formula. I just luuurve the new spin given in Australian MC, so long as I've recorded it and can fast-forward the dramatic pauses and repetitions:) The ridiculous presenter is an absolute joy :) Wuffles, thanks for that, recording now! It looks like the second series to me, so I can't spoil it for you :) edited by simpleasabc on 14/03/2011 I think it is the second series-somehow I nissed it back home-I really enjoyed the first series-the competitors didn't seem to back stab like in other shows of this nature

It is still on at 8 pm nightly (except Fridays) so you have time-if you manage it can you send me a link-all my friends want to hear the Arabic version! Which series, what channel, only in Arabic?!! Fox series-channel 258 on our set-and you just switch between languages with the remote control-oh and it isn't the current series so please don't tell me who won!!

Australian Masterchef-particularly the version dubbed in Arabic! haha I recorded the Arabic version to show everyone in Oz because EVERYONE loves the show there and thought the Arabic translation was hilarious! I wanted to do that but our TV and DVD are too basic sadly-everyone wants to hear Matt in Arabic!! I just got my mobile and recorded it with my mobile phone camera and uploaded it to facebook - it was simple - not the greatest quality but everyone got the gist and thought it was so funny! Bit tragic-my phone is basic too-no camera!!! Do you have a Facebook link to it I can pinch?

I just don't get the teabag in the sink/on the drainer thing. Can someone who does it please enlighten me? As I said below bh thinks it needs to drip into the sink before putting it in the bin-otherwise he risks it dripping en-route to the rubbish bin and giving ME work wiping the floors......He reasons it ultimately saves me work..... <em>edited by wuffles on 13/03/2011</em>

Mine virtuously washes his breakfast dishes -but doesn't touch any other dishes in the sink-and hopefully waits to be thanked-grrrrrrrr-also does the teabag in the sink thing-apparently it is to save ME work because if he puts it in the bin immediately it might drip on the floor en-route and I would have to wash the floor......................................

I had Freckles Jr at the AH and I was great. Everything was fine with one exception..the food. It was truly gross but Mr F kept me supplied with pate and snacks I like AH's food-their hummous is the best too!!!

why oh why have these themes and make the parents dress up. I actually don't even want to stuff my 6month old LO in that bear costume. I am sure he would be very uncomfortable in that. He is the happiest when he is in his nappies. He loves it when you take his clothes off... Fine-then he can be an earlier incarnation of Christopher Robin and you can still dress as his nanny.........just make sure they don't make you eat at the maid's table......:)

Wuffles, how on earth do you know what seasonal fruit and veg are here? Of course, I buy anything which is grown "locally", but other than that, I have no idea of what is seasonal in the shops here. Are dates seasonal all year round, for example - at home, they were only seasonal at Christmas? Fair point-shall I change that to buy what is on special-and ideally local produce which will be cheaper and fresher I wasn't trying to make a point, I was asking a genuine question :) In Geneva, most foodstuffs were related to the seasons, though out of season berries did come creeping in during the last five years, but I'm absolutely bewildered here, being in the desert on the other side of the world.. I suppose though that what is seasonal in other countries is cheaper to import at that time and so cheaper to buy here-maybe I am explaining myself badly
