I made a scrap book for a road trip/holiday i did. I got the supplies in Deira City Centre at that bookshop near virgin...i think its a Magrudy's bookshop Just to let you know that particular Magrudys is now closed-grrrrrrrrrr

Depends if you have children too. We are in Bur Dubai-not the best place for schools-but otherwise wonderful-close to the older-and more interesting-IMHO-parts of Dubai like the Creek, markets and Bastikya-yet close to the malls and metro too. I can walk everywhere safely-have been here 6 years and we still don't have-or want-a car

Wear as much as you can-doubt they's have any idea of the value-have receipts for what you can't wear-or what is obviously new just in case-really can't see the problem unless you had a heap of brand new watches-but even then my husband have brought back multiple new watches for the kids, aunts, uncles etc without anyone saying a word PS My MIL is Arabic and takes her jewellery-all of it-with her whenever she travels and she has quite a lot-by my standards anyway!!!-never had a problem taking it in or out <em>edited by wuffles on 14/02/2011</em>

That's a new one to me too-unless you have a load of watches in new boxes I wouldn't think they's look twice. I always understood if it was for personal use it was fine. I know in the past when my mother in law bought bracelets and such back for wedding/engagement gifts she simply wore the lot! Might be helpful if you have receipts to show it hasn't all been bought prior to your flight maybe

Oh-how sad-wish there was something I could say or do to make it better-sending cyber hugs your way for you and your DH xxx Just to add-just because the heartbeat was fine doesn't mean all is well sadly-I nearly lost my now 22 year old son at 8 weeks with a threatened miscarriage-he was born at 26 weeks with a rare syndrome and had 2 years in hospital and countless surgeries-he still suffers everyday-so sometimes nature has reasons we just don't understand at the time. Yes I still have him-but I wouldn't wish what he has suffered on any baby <em>edited by wuffles on 14/02/2011</em>

Ooh, I'm envious. To add to all the great info you have been given, the wonderful Turkish people will make your trip. Second shaf's suggestion of the Sari Konak in Sultanhamet, family owned, I recommended it a few days ago on another thread. Enjoy Don't be envious -yet-only up to the subtle hint stage! :)

Did you soak them prior to washing them-otherwise you may have set the smell in perhaps. Regardless give them a good soak in napisan or some such and then wash and air dry them

and I loved the way she was with her handler and him with her... she would look around making sure he was still there, and when he'd come over she would nuzzle into him... Very sweet and really nice to see. I was down there last weekend, and she was there along with a huge bucket of greenery munching away.. Shame the guys further up with the other camel and the 2 ponies don't take note.... not even a bucket of water in sight for them.. I did ask but suddenly not understanding me...:( I have seen the others with water-so don't worry too much-maybe they were still setting up?

Bastikya Area down by the Creek, next to the Rulers Court is the most beautiful camel and very well looked after I would say..... I agree :)

Presumably it was being thrown out because it was past its use by date. If this is the case the maid should not have given it to the dog as it may have been off and made the dog sick-in which case her employer had every reason to be annoyed

Trade center road bus stop it is in front of the tourist road/water bus office.... Think it is 10 ..The number is on the bus stop sign... If I am going to Craftland I get off at the Mercarto or opposite Spinneys if I am going to Classic quilts.. If it isn't number 10 you will just have a mystery ride.lol edited by lesley65 on 09/02/2011 Thanks-done plenty of magical mystery tours here already! I assune the Craftland stop is opposite Mercato-or does the bus do a U-turn and enter the centre? Also is that the Spinneys down Umm Suquim way-sorry have never ventured to Jumeirah Plaza so am unsure which of the malls along bBeach Road it is-and DH has hidden the Explorer somewhere!!!

Warched a show on the Dubai pearl industry sometime back-if memory serves me correctly genuine natural Dubai pearls are now rare-and extremely expensive and usually bought singly-I think any necklace you could buy that was in any way affordable would be of imported cultured pearls-but I may be wrong-or your friends may be very rich! The museum has a display on pearl diving if you are interested too

bathing a cat requires a magnetic shower curtain (so it sticks to the tub and makes the cat think there is nowhere to go) a pair of long sleeved oven mitts (this is a requirement - do not attempt without this bit of kit) CLOSE THE BATHROOM DOOR BEFORE STARTING. Have at least 3 fluffy dry towels to rub down kitty afterwards, DO NOT USE SOAP on the head - I use a face cloth that has only been moistened with water and forcibly wiped over the face, ear and chin areas - they don't "appreciate" it but it gets the worst off. As for the "body" a soft spray from the shower head or just using a cup to dip and rinse will work - THE OVEN MITTS ARE KEY to success. Good luck and lay in a supply of hydrogen peroxide and band aids. OR-if you have a cat like mine just fill up the sink and watch it hop in-keeping her out of water is much harder!!!!

Wuffles All the Bernina's are compatible for both 120v and 240v. They have some converter thing in them(don't know exactly what). I have several friends who took theirs back to the States with no problems. Not sure about the plugs for Australia though-don't want to use an adaptor-besides I have a nice machine back home so BH might not be impressed if I buy a third one!

As far as I know they closed the Banks street shop after they renovated and enlarged the shop at Jumeirah Plaza. You can always phone them at 043497943 to make sure. It may save you some time. I'm sure it is a wild goose chase but I need an excuse for a walk!!!!! Have walked to Jumeirah from Bur Dubai too but it is a tad far............

The Classic Quilts shop is definitely now in Jumeirah Plaza. I go there quite often and was always helped immediately. I bought my latest machine there and must say I am very happy. As for Craftland, I must say the staff is not always very helpful and on the one occasion that someone helped me, I was given the wrong advice. On the other hand, they have supplies that are not easy to find somewhere else. When it comes to the sewing machine my advice is this: If you want to do very limited sewing, a cheap machine from Carrefour may be enough, but it is always better to rather go one step up in the choice of your machine to avoid being disappointed at a later stage. You may enjoy the sewing and want to try some other stuff and then is stuck with a machine with limits. Sewing should be a pleasure and if your machine is giving trouble it is stressful, not a pleasure. I personally have Berninas since 2004 and am very happy with it. I did sewing for a living for 17 years and ought to know! ;) I knew about the Jumeirah Branch-just thought they were keeping the other one open as well-will wander down tomorrow and double check just to be sure-Oh and I don't doubt the berninas are better but would rather get an expensive machine that is compatible with the power back home once I am home-only use the el-cheapo for basic piecing here <em>edited by wuffles on 09/02/2011</em>

Same issues wuffles.. I went to look at an embroidery machine very little info given , they didn't offer to show me how it worked so they lost a sale ....Yes I could of asked for then to get it off the shelf but I did say to them that I wanted to purchase a machine.. Didn't say I was just looking... Only ever go there if I can't get what I want at Classic quilts.. I agree-at Classic Quilts in Bank Street they are happy to help-wasn't impressed with the others at Craftland and I do make a lot of quilts so they put off a potential good customer-caught a taxi specifically to go there too so I was not pleased

does anyone know where you can go for basic sewing lessons? Craftland have sewing courses. Google it and their website should come up. Nothing to do with the thread but I went in there the other night after some supplies and not one of the 3 salepeople in the shop spoke to me or offered to help-not impressed-left without buying a thing-which had not been my intention.....

You are more likely to find a house than town house/flat in the suburbs. Real estae is a bit slow but no bargains-my daughter just bought her first home and they were eager to buy before houses went up again. Melbourne schools are good-personally I would go for the south eastern suburbs if your budget runs to that as there are some excellent public schools there and great hospitals. Prices will be higher near the sea/inner city etc of course <em>edited by wuffles on 09/02/2011</em>

We have had a very few drops-trying hard not to laugh at the police guard opposite though-he has donned a thick very new looking raincoat complete with hood and is strutting up and down waiting for the downfall........think he will be disappointed-he dived into his police box when the first drops came-presumably to keep the nice new coat dry!!!

Aim a hot hair dryer directly at them to soften the glue-they will lift off easily-then remove any residual sticky glue with eucalyptus oil ooh not tried that, Thats what i will be doing this weekend Thanks Wuffles :) Good luck-worked in my son's room when all else failed

They do get used to it-mine actually spread out their claws to make it easier-seem to enjoy the attention-try doing it when they are relaxed on your lap I just went to get the scissors out, the wee girlie saw them and has taken off at a rate of knots under the dining table :( She's far too wise that one. I'll keep trying. Use nail clippers rather than scissors-it is quicker and easier
