I guess it depends where you live but I always take my guests by Metro and bus-haven't found many places you can't get to by public transport. Both are efficient and the services are frequent in our area too.

Prices will be cheaper at the music stores around Fish Roundabout in Deira and those in Karama. There is still some room for haggling at the bigger mall based stores like Thomsun if you prefer but they won't be as cheap. Given the short time they play a quarter size for there isn't much point to buy a super expensive model anyway.

Glad I live in Bur Dubai then-never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a taxi-even when heading to the airport in the wee small hours. No shortage in our area for some reason thank goodness. We have been here 8 years now and don't have a car so hopefully it will stay this way.

We have been here over 7 years and neither of us has a car so we use a lot of taxis and the majority are excellent. Apparently one of the companies offers very little training-can't recall which roof colour but the other taxi drivers often complain about that particular company. I had one once who had arrived in Dubai the day before and been put behind the wheel. The poor guy was so stressed as he had no idea of directions and had been yelled at by disgruntled customers all morning. He was so relieved to have a passenger who knew where she was going. I suggested he got the number of one of the other drivers if he had to ask for directions-he hadn't even been provided with so much as a phone number to call.

and at the risk of getting run out of town !! I don't rinse - we have a dishwasher but if i wash anything up by hand i fill a bowl with water as hot as i can stand and washing up liquid..i wash the dishes - less mucky first - and let them drain. I sometimes run glasses under the tap to rinse, that's all..that's the way i've always done it and everyone else i've ever known... apologies to OP for going OT... :D Would you hang up your clothes after washing them in hot soapy water-or do you rinse them to get the soap residue off-surely anything washed in soap -be it dishes or clothes-needs to be thoroughly rinsed??? That's why i use washing up liquid which is specially made for the task as opposed to clothes washing detergent...and soap doesn't stick to hard surfaces like it does fabric... But you still rinse clothes washing detergent off clothes-and of course some dish washing detergent residue will adhere to plates if you don't rinse-how could it not? I'm not the manufacturer !! lol Everything runs off the plates while they are draining and there is the minutest amount of detergent making a lot of lather - watch what happens if you put the wrong detergent in your washing machine lol you can't really compare the two - hard surfaces and fabric aren't the same.. but this is how I do it and not how you do it - no point going on about it - neither is right or wrong, just different... OK-fair enough-truce!

Sadly don't own any designer clothes but each year during my husband's annual leave take back any impulse buys and sell on eBay-never had anything not sell. You can prepare the ad and take photos here and schedule the auction to begin the day you get back home-I find it a nice way to get some holiday spending money too.

Are the pink taxis more expensive?? No, they're the same price. I avoid taking them. The women I've gone with are terrible drivers, and never know where they're going. The male drivers are just slightttttly better. They cost 5 dhs more from the airport-total of 25 dhs flagfall-same as the larger cabs-smaller cabs start at 20 dhs. I won't take one as most of the lady drivers won't help load your luggage which I rather appreciate after a long flight

I would just be happy if they upgraded the toilets! I love the Burjuman do most of my shopping there, best Zara in Dubai IMHO! This is great news!!! Thanks, I will be patient! The toilets down the high fashion end with their own individual basins always rather impress my easily please visitors!!!

BH likes it for the music store-wouldn't bother going myself. We don't have a car so it is a pain to get to anyway. If you want a quiet mall Wafi is the one. At keast there is a Carrefour Express, M & S and some lovely restaurants. I like the underground market there though quite a few stores have sadly closed down Yes Wafi and also Bur Juman are very quiet these days and much much nicer I second Burjuman-once they finally get the cinema up and running and a few shops re-open it will be great Cinema, in Burjuman where?? Patience!!! The older half will be closed down come December according to the shop keepers and remodelled-part of which includes a bigger food court and cinema and also better linkinking of the old and new parts and the upper floors. You can buy Tim Tams and Vegemite here-you need to pack Clinkers, Jaffas, Cheezles, Twisties and Violet Crumbles though!! I too went to the doctors and had the tests about this. I do suggest every one makes this a first step in case it is a sympton of an illness. They can tell me exactly why it is happening. I have an auto immune disease called Pernicious anemia. This means my body doesn't absorb B12 naturally. So every 3 months I have a needle of B12. This is meant to make me more energetic and help with the hair loss. It makes no difference. Drats:( I also went to a hair loss specialist and that did help about 50%. They use shampoos, herbs, laser light treatment and Minoxidill that you apply to your hair. I have continued using the laser and Minoxidill at home and things are stabilised. I also started taking Silica tablets 6 months ago because I heard a specialist on the radio suggest it. But I have never been able to fully regrow and thicken my hair. I don't know why there are so many woman who come on this forum complaining of hair loss whilst living in Dubai but there are a lot. If these tablets help someone else then I will be so pleased for you as I know what it is like to have thinning hair. That is great they are available on the internet so they are easy to get. I did buy another 2 bottles today to start my stockpile. Wuffles forget the Tim Tams and Vegemite, my bag will be stuffed with this Hair tonic stuff lol. I did ask the naturopath today about the horse shampoo and he looked at me like I was crazy lol. I would be happy to but we are not moving to Dubai until January at the earliest. Sorry but DH's company are taking forever to get organised. I wouldn't be surprised if it is even March at the rate they are going:(. If you know someone coming to Australia it probably is sold in most Health Food stores. Should be easy enough to order on-line and get it posted here anyway-I googled it out of interest and quite a few places ordered postage and it was cheaper than the price you quoted too. Besides you will need all the spare room you have in your suitcase for Aussie junk food!

Must be the day for it-my poor DD back in Australia was involved in a 5 car pile up caused by a polce chase getting out of control-luckily she is fine-just shaken-though her car isn't looking too pretty after being hit in the back by the Boys in Blue. She has been stuck on the side of the road for ages though as the driver who did the damage did a runner and the police told them to stay at the scene while they mounted a search. Al hamdililah she's ok. Thanks-she is longing to get home to a hot chocoate drink apparently!

Mirdif is also an easy and fast drive to garhoud and theres lots of accommodation there. Festival city can be very pricey and its difficult to find accommodation there as its very popular. Garhoud itself is also quite expensive and mostly old but large villas. The apartments that are there are quickly snapped up. Another option you might want to consider is Sheik Zayed Road apartments. They are a few minutes drive away as well and theres loads of them on the market at reasonable prices. The apartments there are quite big too. The OP's husband doesn't want to drive-so they need to be near a Metro station

What about the evening buffet at Bab Al Shams? Great desert location for visitors, good food, fab show with Arabian horses and "warriors", belly dancing etc. I think they also do pony rides for kids but can't remember. We went as a couple, no kids, and it was a lovely evening, but we also saw lots of families with kids enjoying it too. Could be a nice compromise? You can also hold the falcon and ride a camel-I seemed to be the only one doing so mind you-but I enjoyed it!

Thanks Wuffles, so does that mean that anyone could just go there (without checking in etc). Also if you have just landed, how would you find it? And lastly, is it 24 hour? Thanks. I think it is meant to be open 24/7 not 100% sure though)-no need to go through check in. Sometimes when they are short staffed they shunt you off to Terminal 1 instead which is a pest-you can either take the bus or metro down there. It is well sign-posted and there is always someone to give directions anyway

Not sure if this helps as I always do the round trip from Dubai but there doesn't seem to be a strict timetable-rather the buses fill up and leave when full for Rashadiya bus station.Those to Ibn Battuta bus station are less frequent. Check the RTA Dubai site for bus timetables.

if he doesn't have his driving licence he may find it difficult to get a UAE one and i imagine his employer will need to know why he doesn't have it ?? Unless he needs it for his job why should it matter to his employers if he has one or not? We both have UAE licences but have never driven in Dubai-the taxi works out cheaper for us

the smaller Indian supermarkets in Bur Dubai and Deira usually have them (under the counter or out the back)-you will need to ask-not sure they will be too forthcoming if they don't know you though. Diwali would be no fun without fireworks in the carpark!

No-I wouldn't buy it-or store any food in plastic dishes for that matter. Much prefer to use glass or ceramic containers-I never feel plastic is completely clean and it picks up the smell of whatever was previously stored in it-especially if it was something spicy.

Our villa came with a front loader too. It does a good job but the cycles are generally longer than my old top loader had. Also it is not good for soaking things and impossible to add that stray sock mid cycle too.

Probably not what you would like to do-loads of walking exploring the older parts of Dubai around the Creek where we live Oh, I did that for 2 years, when DH and I were on a job hunt, we had an apartment at Naif rd.. and that was alll I use to do in the evenings.. But a good idea/reminder though.. Hey what areas do you explore?? No particular route-both sides of the creek all the markets and of course Karama-don't usually have a direction in mind-aimless wandering on warm nights is rather pleasant!

You can iron over brown paper-but if the wax is coloured try applying ice instead-it will freeze the wax and you can carefully scape it off. I would be wary of applying heat to coloured wax
