Hi, Don't be scared, just make sure you have enough oil in your tank and hit the road. At first you'll get lost missing the turns and signs, give yourself some time and you'll be the master!

We're in Marina residences and we love it.. Except the fact that the closer you get to the sea, more humid problems you'll face, which we did.. Can't say, in terms of access or noise we've had a problem for almost 2 yrs. Nowadays we're considering Golden Mile park view apts are nice.

We've used Saniservice last time when we had heavy mold problem at our home. Very clean and professional. The pictures they showed of our infrastructure, after the cleaning was just amazing, it was shining like new.. Definitely recommend them. Expensive but worth for every Dirham.

I'm currently going through this too. Have tried 3 x different maids from the same company, so now think it's time I change company. But which one? I always prefer to work from recommendations. hi poshbird, I've been working with dubaihousekeeping since the time I've arrived to Dubai. It's been 1,5 years now, that I got services from heavy cleaning to kitchen assistance when I have guests. And this is not the first time I'm recommending them :) Btw, I've also tried other companies when I couldn't schedule help with dubaihousekeeping. As per my experience with around 5 different companies, I've found this one the most convenient. Customer service of the company is exceptional. Still, it comes to the point where the actual work is done by the maid herself. I've my regular, so that we get used to eachother in time and now everything is working like a clock. Just saying that it is a matter of fact that we're all coming from different cultures and habbits, so it is not also easy for the maids to perform at their bests from day 1 but it develops in time. I would recommend you to give it a try. Hope that helps :) can you recommend your cleaner please ? mine is going on holidays for 2 months thanks All of the cleaners that I've tried with dubaihousekeeping was good comparing to other agencies. With two of them it worked the best FOR ME: Sita and May Santillan (there're two cleaners named May)

Hi Roxan, Give it another chance. :) We're even living very close to where the new shopping mall construction is, passing by it min twice every single day for over 1,5 yrs now, don't remember a day that I thought the way you do. It must've been one of those unlucky days that happens to us all time to time.

Most of the time I buy them from Organic Market haven't experienced that much of a long process. Or try the brand named Green Valley - I think that was the name- it is a green package for all types of pulses. Can find them at Carrefour MOE.

Thank you all for your valuable comments and the time you spent typing them. We've called Sani AC Services and told our LL about the problem. Turns out that the AC infrastructure was already unhealthy and my opening the window to get some fresh air during humid weather, made it worse. Bought a dehumidifier, turned off the AC on the problematic room, now everything is fine! So no leakage, just typical humid problem. Waiting for Sani guys to come next week and clean the AC then we'll be back to happiness:)

Btw I just got the wall dry then, I turned on he AC while I left my balcony door open. I was trying to create some air circulation. Then the whole wall started to cry down with lots if water again.. Might sound stupid but I think I'm doing smtg wrong in here.. Will def. look for a dehmidifier but I was thinking that AC itself was drying the air in the apt?

We had a similar problem in a tower in the Marina, but it turned out to be a burst pipe from several floors above us. We never got it fully sorted without using a dehumidifier. But there is no pipeway from where we are having the water from the wall. :(

We live in Marina Residences and facing a mold problem.. It started in one of those highest humid days, like some humid on the wall-particularly only one wall- felt like the wall was crying for 1-2 days, now we have mold left from that. Has anyone experienced a similar thing nowadays?

Well, if you're planning to stay in Manhattan and if you'll use the room just to sleep, have a shower and dump in the items that you've shopped:) I can recommend you to go to Herald Square hotel. That was what we've done 3 years ago -my DH and I- . In Manhattan all the hotel rooms are quite small and you pity the amount you're paying for that tiny hotel room in the end. From that perspective, rooms size was better in Herald Sq. Location wise it was just perfect cause it was close to most of the areas that we've wanted to visit, we went most of the top places by walking. Plus it is very close to metro and this is such an important thing in Manhattan where finding a taxi might take time and you might shop a lot and need to get rid of your shopping bags sometimes. Also finding a decent toilet was such a problem to me in NY, so I found it more convenient to get back to the hotel for a short rest, freshen up and leave for a new sightsee. From that perspective we loved it. It is not a hotel that you would find fancy to stay, but it was clean, very organized and worth for the money. I know you asked for fancy places to dine as well. So I'll tell you my fav at Brooklyn: Peter Luger an old school steak house. I would recommend you to do your reservation today as they get full from months before.. And please don't forget to stop by at the Magnolia Bakery at Soho, you will see how different it is than the ones in Dubai.. <em>edited by xN on 22/04/2015</em>

Hello everyone, Thanks for all kind replies. We're living in Dubai and I just wanted my husband to feel like getting out of the city. Turns out that there's not much to do around those areas that I booked. Plus, the quality of services decreased the further we went from Dubai:) So, my advice, if your not interested at all about the authentic and original life around this territory, don't leave Dubai!

Guess I got you earlier than usual njj :) Tarabya is a very nice place, hope you enjoy it. Sorry that I don't know any maids who can work for you:( As I've always worked with locals. Try the agencies but still can't name any. Happy for you that you're expecting number 2:) My gynae was in Acibadem too. His name is Ibrahim Bildirici. He's very famous with his easing style and gave birth to the babies of a lot of my friends + some celebrities in Turkey too. Must go places: Gazebo Restaurant : one of my favs, dinner, afternoon tea Nusret: Best steakhouse in town, expensive but an experience Iskele Bebek: Fish Restaurant, fancy and touristic fish restaurant Revma: Where we always go, fish restaurant Incirli Saraphane: Vine House, just perfect Su Ada: Pick one of the restaurants, it is a good experience specially for dinner Kosebasi: The most known kebab restaurant, won't cost you a fortune, pick the one at Levent Lokma: Breakfast is very very important in Turkey, don't miss this one. Big Chef's Tarabya: International cusine, good for casual eating outs. Make sure that you've reservation for all of these. For grocery use MacroCenter. It is like Waitrose of Turkey. For food color, I've no idea, sorry for that. For online shopping: We used to use DHL for shipping. And Amazon also has shipping operations for some items. You can also try local online stores I'll give you the most reliable ones: Markafoni.com (the best) Morhipo.com trendyol.com Lidyana.com For home related shopping: evmanya.com nuev.com altincicadde.com perabulvari.com Online shopping is better than here in Dubai. Hands on shopping: Clothing: Vakko, Beymen, Network, Yargici, Hotic, Matras, Mavi Jeans are some of my favs. -You can find them all in Istinye Park Mall. Mudo is fair enough, too. Home: Pasabahce -the best for glassware-, Madame Coco, English Home, Linens I used a lot Furniture: Yatas, Koleksiyon, Lazzoni, Mudo Concept -Mudo has a huge store in Maslak, very close to you- we used a lot! In case you see any of these brands in one of the online shopping stores that I mentioned above, you can go for them. Jewellery: Atelye79 , ask for Eleni she is my friend and tell her about me, she will take care of you very well. Fruits and Vegetables: Just go to the closest bazaar:) don't buy it from super markets. Hope that helps. Love xN <em>edited by xN on 06/04/2015</em>

Turkish Airlines is the biggest airline company of Turkey and as a local, I always rely on their services, flew to a lot of destinations from NY to Amsterdam, and made hundereds of domestic fly, never noticed a leak of security. Also TA has been a member of the world’s largest airline group, Star Alliance-for like 7 years-, which makes them following several common regulations and standards. In terms of Airport services, it is totally a different company running Ataturk Airport ground services, where on earth have you seen an airline company responsible of the ground services of the airport that it landed? Even if you've seen any, that is not on Turkey, I can assure you that.. <em>edited by xN on 26/02/2015</em>

Hi njj, I am sorry that we've missed each other again.. Will answer your questions though, hope they would be helpful still. Zekeriyakoy is a good place to live, I would suggest you to check Gokturk as well. It is more developed and you will find much more thing to do around. -that was the place we used to live and we loved it!- For both accommodation areas, make sure you have a strong car as in winter those two are getting into serious tough weather conditions cause they are quite close to one of the biggest forest area of Istanbul -snow, roads getting icy, heavy rains..-, even for 15-20 days in a year, I can tell that it is worth it! I would suggest you to live in a gated community, it is not like living in Dubai, at least we used to live like that. Having maid rooms are not so common, limited with in a few gated community areas, check for Kemer Country -in Gokturk again- or rent an apt - villa with one more additional bedroom than you need just for yourself. Use sahibinden.com for house hunting. Or I can advice you to use our real estate agent, World of Kemer, worldofkemer.com, find Dilek Hanim there and let me know if you get in touch with her. I can call her personally so that she will take care of you differently:) we've sold one and rented one apt with her services. Professional lady. I can suggest 2 hospitals, 1 American hospital at Nisantasi, 2. Acibadem Maslak Hospital -which has a branch in Gokturk as well- Sorry no idea about your maids visa as my experiences are with always local people. Hope that helps, Good luck!

SequinQueen, We've rented our apt 6 months ago, so I still consider my experiences quite current. In terms of housing, I experienced that it was not as hard as it has been told to find a rental for multiple cq. In 20 days I've found 3 apartments that I could pay in 4 cq. 2 in the Palm Jumeirah 1 in the Arabian Ranches. But I ran and search around lots of options. In the end, we are paying in 4 cq, -touch the wood- and I am sure that you can find something like this too. Especially, the news are telling that the rentals should be divided or stabilized in this peak point of the market. Just needs some digging. Good luck!

Hi Mrs Smith, I highly recommend Dubai Housekeeping, they have this responsible manager named Param, he is doing his best for the sake of great customer service.. By the way, when it comes to changing the girls often, if you become a regular customer they don't change the helper -or shouldn't- without notifying you. In case you are calling for a maid randomly, it is possible that they send the maid available at that time. If this is your case.. Good Luck!

Dear MKZ, I had a similar experience years ago, but I was in the place of your kids. So the cheating husband is my BFs dad and her dad is BF of my dad. We used to be neighbors for a long time. The family fell apart, that bad woman done really bad things just to irritate the whole family -still doing by the way-..etc As I said similar stories. Well, I was a teenager who had the right to be annoying on those ages:) To defend my BF, I made it clear that persona non grata can't get into our house. My mum was just not approving to have the eye of that woman around us. My dad didn't want to her around, too. So it was a kind of easier situation for us. Now I am a married adult and I see things quite differently. If I were in your shoes, with all the experiences I've had before, I would support my husband, be there for him. It doesn't mean that you will enjoy it, nor the BF of your DH. People try to socialize after such changes, they can't stay between 4 walls-even if we want them to stay there so deeply- . They will keep on socializing if they enjoy it, if not they will find other ways to keep in touch for the sake of the mutual relationship. You will see.. Get more books with you, make sure that you will always have enough space for yourself in your holiday, create your own area of joy. You have kids, they will keep you happy and busy some times. Just direct your attention somewhere else, rather that what happened to your dear friend. I am sure there are thing that you'd like to do if you'd have some time. Consider this holiday as a period that you can do one of those things. Hope you will take yourself out of the situation. edited by xN on 02/02/2015 <em>edited by xN on 02/02/2015</em>

Hi Sababy, Before moving here I was a Marketing Communications Specialist, so I'd to make some works with low cost, good effect and customized material. Which made me learn lots of things in a short time as I had to struggle each problem by myself. What I could suggest you is to: 1. Define your targeted audience clearly 2. Learn their communication tendencies -looks like FB is not one of this- 3. Then look for a professional PR agency which had experiences about your target audience and the communication way you'd planned. This simple. The trinity of cheap- fast- good applies here. If you have enough time and energy to spare, you can work with your client itself for graphic design part of the job. But the content creation is something different. If you can create your own content, then it is easier for you. But if you need to build up a new corporate identity to be created from the scratch and then give shape to your content around that spinal, you will need professional support. Just go and find an agency, stay away from DIY if you are in such a beginning stage. Edited: One more idea, you can directly try media planning companies. Like Carat for example. As far as I know: once you become a client for them, their media planning staff is ranking the best ways to publish for your specific case. But before publishing you will need to have enough content to provide them.. Which will take you back to the steps I've mentioned above. Good luck <em>edited by xN on 02/02/2015</em>

Hi Figs, Try and see how much they will try to rob you at Nicolas and Asp, then you'll understand the real value of Dr. Madhu:) At Nicholas and Asp, you are just another brick to the wall of their summer houses for those senior -the ones closed their retirements- dentists. I had quite a complicated dental issue recently, long story short I am heading back to my home country for the treatment. With Nicholas and Asp I ended up with an aprox cost of 19 K AED for 3 root canals -among which I just need 1or 2 of them-, 5 crowns -which I don't need at all-, 1 dental operation -in which they don't understand the main problem there-.. I am so surprised by those who are going to Nicolas and Asp, they must've not seen a serious dental care and service in their lives! Such a fake clinic!

Hi kitkat89, We've moved to Palm this year and before moving here I've seen dozens of apartments in Dubai. I would suggest you to do the same cause it is all about your lifestyle + budget. You should feel the ambiance of the location and feel the value of it. We loved Palm! And even though we could've get a 3 br apt in Greens, we've chosen to live here in a 2 br apt. Is it over priced? YES. Is it worth it? For us. YES again. The reason why we've found it worth: 1.We're living in the Marina Residences and inside of the apt is in a much better quality, finishings and the layout plans are better than any residence we've seen. -rooms are definitely bigger, main decoration is better for our taste- 2.Not sure what it has been raised as a downside about the traffic here, cause I 've never seen any. Especially comparing to Marina and JBR, you wouldn't call it traffic. 3.It is close to the office of my DH, he's coming here without getting stuck in the traffic. 4.It is close to JBR, Marina, MOE, Ibn Batuta Mall, Souk Medinat, fair close to get a taxi if you'd like. But if I weren't driving, I would definitely pick an apt around Marina or JBR as Palm is a bit isolated area. I had never faced a difficulty of finding a taxi here -I need it very occasionally- , but I feel like it might be an issue on hotter days. There's no tram or metro here and not sure if the transportation to Atlantis hotel is connected to the Palm tram station. Even if it is, I don't see it as an easy option as you'll need lots of get ins-get ons. Good luck with the move! edited by xN on 02/01/2015 Dear xN- Thank you so much for detailed response, this is very helpful. We would definitely search and check out apartments before we sign off something. My DH's work location is also close to PJ, and from budget point of view Palm is within our Budget so we feel positive vibes so far about Palm. We both plan to buy 2 cars so reliance on Public transportation will be very minimum for us. Thanks again  Well, 2 more points about the Palm: -This area is one of the most expensive lands in the world, which makes car parking is an issue cause space is limited. Most of the 2 br apt/ or even some 3 br ones have 1 car parking place reserved for the apt. We used to have 2 cars back in our home country but here we have just one and it is enough, cause it is just the 2 of us-no kids for the moment-. Which makes us saving some more money:) Another thing is in the Palm District chiller fee which is avg.500 Dhs per month -for a 2 br apt, it increases with the sqft- , consider this as a hidden cost for living in the Palm. And most of the time it is the tenant paying CF, realestate agents seem to hide it but you'll end up with this cost. But it is negotiable -even the RE agents say the contraire- ask the LL to pay for it. I've found 2 apts in the Palm who'd accepted but we've ended up in another for which we are paying the chiller fee:/

Assuming that you are living in one of those communities you've mentioned: Just go out and run/jog! Nothing like a great cardio to get you in shape + you'll be flexible in terms of hours. Use Nike+ app it has a coaching feature as well and it motivates you. Bonus: you'll free your mind while moving in open air! Also, you can add some private pilates sessions to your schedule which you can get at your own apartment. Just my opinion!

Hi Firoza B, Whatever you do don't go with Diamondlease, we had our worst car lease experience, ever. I've given some details about the experience in older posts, you can search the word Diamondlease and see the story. Nowdays using National car lease -we haven't had any problems yet- as they give better rates to the company workers of my DH's. It would be a good idea to check if you can catch something like that. Good luck!

I a not sure on that.[b'> But contact the municipality and ask for a list of the licensed Eid butchers, as they slaughter. You may have to buy the entire animal though so will get a lot of off cuts (liver, stomach, tongue, etc.). [/b'> If yo would eat those pieces, it would be a cost effective alternative. Otherwise, it could cost around 1500dhs for an animal, and then you would get a lot of meat and could give the off cuts to the slaughterers (either as kindness or say if they give yo a discount, they can have them to sell). Or just ask the butcher if you can freeze it !! lol (They're used to being asked so won't mind) Well, I went to Co-Op thanks to you ladies:) and asked just like you have said Doubting Thomas. The butcher was far away from understanding my question so I gave up:) We need to consume the meat in 3-5 days, which we will.. But still looking for options about freezable meat:)

Londiamond that was helpful! And I am amazed the way you observe things but I understand it is your passion:) So I am throwing another question: Do you know a place where I can buy meat which has never been frozen? So that I can freeze it in my home. Cause the ones that I saw were all coming a loooong way from all over the world, I need fresh meat that I can be the first hand to freeze and defreeze it myself:)

Why don't you just take it to a garage with a car washing and cleaning facility - there are lots. Great, where do you think I can find one of those? Al Quoz?

I'm having difficulties about getting my car cleaned. Here is how: I don't want to give the car to the car cleaners in the shopping mall parking areas as I hate the clothes that they are using to rinse the cars. Searched for older posts about car washing options and people talking about 400 Dhs?! I am actually looking for other options between these 2 edges.. Do I have?

For daily usage materials I am also using home brands but I feel really bad about Carrefour's groceries. A tomato can't live even in the fridge for 3 weeks! Carrefour has such an image on me, of artificial add ons to fruits and vegetables. But definitely try Co-Op. Thanks Marroosh..:)

Haven't tried local meat here actually, with your suggestion I'll give it a try. Thank you Shazadien!

Hi Njj, What a pity that we can't get to catch each other.. I just saw your post sorry for being that late to reply. Post your questions in the forum, I'll keep checking and answering all of your questions. I won't be available to attend this weeks EW coffee morning at Emirates Golf Club, but if it is OK for you we can meet there on the 11th. Let me know.. Wishing you good luck with the move! <em>edited by xN on 03/12/2014</em>
