Hi Minegirl! I brought many bottles of glass paint as well as liquid lead, no problem getting them through. It's not a particular talent, just something I wanted to have in case...

I second the recommendation for Future Medical. The ENT there is Canadian, really good, and the equipment is top notch.

okay, I took them back again today right at 10 am. They had a great time, had lunch there (it didn't close) and were ready to go by 2:30 when it was getting too hot. There were no lines at all until after lunch so they got non stop fun. Only downside to no lines is hot pavement so water walkers may be in order if they're allowed.

I have used a guy named Noor on five different occasions including a move. He shows up on time and his english is not too bad He has a truck and I did not find him to overcharge. He was at 55458364 if he is here now. I used him as recently as May 1st. Good Luck!

Sorry, no idea, he just called it out and I was busy keeping them alive ;) , but you can go onto the Qatar government wbsite and link to the traffic violations and imput your licence number and it will tell you if you have been flashed. Maybe they aren't even live! That would be good! Good luck!

Specifically, where does that phone number reach, as it does not look like a Hamad phone number. Do they have a blood donor department?

For my son we went to future medical clinic on Al Waab across from Aspire Tower, it took 10 minutes, no problems. They just give you a letter with your type on it. I'm a blood donor in Canada and knew my type, and they just accepted that. The cost is minimal, maybe 100 QAR

Hi Rumers, Just from experience, we had friends in Al Khor, and from the very far side of Doha it took me way less than an hour to get to their house and from the North Road, (or D Ring ) I found it not to be an unpleasant drive. They shopped there mostly and seemed to have no problems getting all the good basics, and just came to Doha for the specialty items. It's definitely quieter there, which can be a plus, and although you would not walk, it's too spaced out, the licence bureau, post office and stores were a lot less busy than here, and when we bought our car we actually went to Al Khor to transfer ownership as it took 15 minutes instead of hours in a line up in Doha. If I lived there, I would be happy. Good luck

Hi redwine! We live at Y Village (www.yvillage.qa) and my hubby is with Qatar Airways. There are lots of other pilots here, both First Officers and Captains, Mainline and Executive. I can do an airport run in 20 minutes on a good day. Some have no kids, and ours is older. It's a beautiful compound and the facilities are awesome! I'm glad to answer any questions you have! Suzanne

HI JA GIRL, I wouldn't think it would be as big an issue as you might think, there are lots of latinas and Lebanese women that have gorgeous really curly hair and stores carry relaxers I have seen. I happen to have flyaway fine hair so I can't personally help. I also think you should not have problems in customs with the food unless you have liquids like Vanilla extract that has alcohol in it. Our container wasn't opened except for a box containing Canadian maple syrup. :\: I have tried to find a source to get Ting, cuz oddly that's something I really miss. Good luck with the move, and if you want to meet or have any questions I'm glad to accommodate ;) . Suzanne

My daughter is doing it frequently from Montreal, so "same same, but different". She is happy with it, they have menus even in the back, and toothbrushes and lots of movies, and she says its very comfortable compared to many of the North American carriers she has been on.

maybe they quote by the inch? DH will love that! I just booked an appointment for him to re-investigate, will report back costs in June. Word from his doc was that it is indeed done routinely here, and by many different nationalities and cultures..... You may not want to quote the actual price unless it's quite high or your DH may be embarrassed...:\:

Hi lalala, no special pull at all ;) I just called, asked if there was availability, he wrote the test, and ta da. Another child started the same day and he too was expat. Mine was 13, the other a bit younger, but don't know. I see many many small expat children there. I wonder how much of the rumour about only taking Qatari kids is just a rumour. Or a rule for a short time only. You all know how the "new rule" changes frequently. I'm just encouraging those looking to not rule it out, it is a fantastic school, I'm so glad he is there, and we were not put on any sort of waiting list.

Hi Clairesut, I'm almost there, started the move yesterday to continue today and tomorrow. I will look for you by the pool, too bad about the kids pool, I hope that's fixed soon! My house is the one with the ridiculous number of plants out front ;) And for shellsuk, I agree with everything Clairesut said, it is one of the best compounds in Doha, and believe me I have seen them all! It is a very easy commute to Al Saad, just drive up Al Waab.

Hi Dan Lou; for sure I got a great one at a shop under the Mercure hotel. It was in a little store with the word "America" in the name on the ground floor. They had step up/step down transformers for continuous use, which is what you should get. I was thrilled to find it, as it has worked great for months so far, doesn't get hot with continuous use, and was a good price compared to the one I was supposed to get in Canada before coming, but forgot to get. I believe there were also letters of appreciation from the US Military base on the wall. That's all I remember, sorry, but it's worth looking for.

Hi Emma! Welcome to Doha! I will be in London trolling Ikea when you arrive, but hope to meet you soon after. I have decided furnishing an entire house in a country (where 90 % of the styles are WAY over the top) is not as fun as it sounds. I've been here since late October, so if you think of any questions before you come feel free to email me. Let me know and I will post it. See you soon! Suzanne

Hi Clairesut; Sounds good! You talked me into it! ; ) Actually we have agreed on details to move there, but my husband works for the airline, so we just have to wait for the day he comes home to sign the paperwork. I'm from Canada by the way, and we move May 1st, so save me a spot by the pool! And for Alilaslett, the directions would be west on Al Waab, past Al Furousiya. Turn left at the first roundabout and go til you would run into the wall, so about 2 roundabouts, and turn right. It's about the third street on the right at the end of the road, (you would turn where the partialy built house is). I hope that house is never finished, or I won't know where to turn any more. Feel free to correct me or expand on that Clairesut! It is certainly the nicest compound I have seen for the price here yet.

Hi eflowers. To answer your question, I went there for my 14 year old's birthday in December, and it was fantastic! The food was grest, price was high as to be expected, the view was great, as you could see right into the stadium and the Arab games or some such thing was on. It does not spin as fast as advertised, as we were there about 2 hours and it went about 1/2 way around. The piano player was a nice addition, and they don't pack all the tables together so everyone gets a good view of the area. I will go again, maybe for my birthday, as the cake they brought out to him was the best I have had in Doha thus far.

Short answer is yes, that's what they should do! ;) Frustrating isn't it? I had someone tell me they used to put a map on the mail, so the delivery person would know where to do. Inevitably, with the construction, that too will not work as roads open and close more than my wallet does! Too funny though, sorry for your frustration, but you made ME laugh.

If anyone lives in a villa in Y compound I would love to hear feedback. We are serously considering a move there, and I would love to know how much you paid for your villa, how long a lease you signed, and your thoughts on the compound itself. I wonder how maintenance is and if anyone has has any problems. If you live in an apartment there I would love your thoughts on the place as well. Thanks so much! :)
