I do agree though that it is good for teachers to be observed and to know that they are understanding what they are learning about but it is not a requirement in the CACHe course, Sorry, but it is part of the Cache courses, and without these observations, you cannot complete the course.

No, there seems to be some misunderstanding. There is one task which covers how you show how to conduct an observation of a child in your setting. You need to show evidence, reports, plan tasks and activities based on your findings. This is separate (think it's task MU 2.7?). The observations we are referring to and the ones where you are observed. As mentioned, you have three of these per course (one per term). They each cover the criteria you have covered in that term, and the observer wants to see them put into practise in your work setting. An assessor comes into the workplace and watches you. You will need to plan ahead and make sure your planning for that time covers all or most of what you have to demonstrate/show. You then have a 121 discussion with the assessor following this observations. It's not based on the number of hours you work over the duration of the course.

Just to add, going through EYES makes completing the course so much easier. Having to send the documents home will take a long time, especially if you need to make changes and resend. EYES use the Onefile systems, so you can upload your work and the assessors have it straight away and if any changes need to be made, you are informed immediately. So much easier than having to post everything and much quicker. Not to mention the support they offer you. Worth every fils!

But how are the observations conducted if completing online? As far as I'm aware (having just completed my Cache Level 2 and about to start level 3), the observations have to be done in the work setting by a qualified Cache assessor. I would imagine completing the course online in the UK for example would be easier, due to having easier access to the like to assessors to visit you at your nursery. Several of the units carry a large percentage of the final results based on these observations.

Highly recommend EYES in Knowledge Village. I've just completed my CACHE level 2 and starting my Level 3 next term. Can't comment on the others. EYES give you complete support throughout the course and I would have struggle without their help. Depending on what nursery you are working with, they may give you a discount a they have arrangements with certain ones. EYES for level three is approx. 16000AED (plus 1000AED registration fee, not sure if this is already included in the price). I get a 3000AED discount due the arrangement my nursery has with them. Give them a call and speak to Bev. You can also pay in monthly instalments with EYES, which is useful!

These present conditions are not new, that's the point I'm making. If these horrible crimes hadn't been brought to the World's attention, we would be non the wiser and the OP will be happily traveling to India. As all travel advise tells you, use your common sense and stick to busy and tourist areas. Take excursions booked through reputable tour companies (which the hotels will be affiliated with) and just don't draw attention to yourself by flashing cash, wearing expensive jewellery and dress sensibly. The attacks on tourist recently in the press show they were in isolated non-tourist areas, so the risk is unfortunately greater.

Of course it will be safe to travel to India, as long as you use your common sense and the advice RT has already mentioned about staying in 5 Star hotels etc. Although I disagree with changing your flights, and I doubt tourism will fall on the back of this, especially to the low levels that will make a difference. Just having the World's attention on how they will deal with these crimes will be enough for them to act, hopefully! Crime happens everywhere, just because we don't hear about it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Rapes in India have been sadly happening for years, it's only now, it's been brought to the World's attention, we are panicing over travelling there. It can happen just as well in Sri Lanka, even here. edited by Zannie on 22/03/2013

That depends on when the parents put their child's name down. JAPS for example doesn't offer FS1 (correct if I'm wrong, but they didn't when I enquired a year ago). I work in a nursery, and most children in FS1 there have now secured a placement for FS2 for this September. the only difficulties are when the parents have left it until now to put their child's name down for a school and are shocked to find out all placements have been made. The advantages of a nursery is, they are often cheaper than a school and the classes can be smaller. My son is in FS1 and only has no more than 14 in his class. He loves it there. He still seems so little to go to 'big school' and I love the small, family feel of the nursery. I suppose I lot depends on the nursery and what they have to offer, and if they're already familiar there, IMHO, I would choose to keep them there. It will give them another year to mature and be ready for 'big school'.

We've been to the Tilal hotel several times. Fairy new, so not run down at all. Lovely staff, rooms are very nice. I would request a ground floor garden room opposite the pool. Ideal for kids as they can come and go to the pool straight from your room. You can sit out on your little terrace and watch them. The resturant is very nice and the food pretty good. They offer a complimentary trip every afternoon to the camel farms around 3pm. Nice gym and steam room. They also have a small bar area at the top end by the pool. We were only a couple of rooms down from it, so we were able to leave the kids asleep and sit outside (we had our doors open and could see our room were we sat) and were able to enjoy a wee glass and a sheisha.

Is your daughter starting FS1 in 2014? If this is the case, I wouldn't stress yourself out too much. All nurseries cover FS1, so that will give you more time. Both my children covered FS1 at nursery and had the advantage of smaller classes and lower fees! However, I would certainly get her name down on a few schools now. Where abouts are you looking? The likes of Kings, JESS and JAPS will always be busy and likely full. Safa is a great school and expanded last year. They are pretty full for spaces in Foundation for this September, but hopefully ok for next year if you act now. Also Star, but they have a single day for registration, usually around April, so find out and turn up early on the day with all your docs. You can get an application from them or possibly from their website. Star doesn't charge the 500AED waiting list fee, which is a bonus.

I'm sure each taxi will have a log of the journeys they have taken and the cost. Get DH to call the RTA with all the taxi details including journey pick-up/drop off and route destinations and the time/date. They should be able to retrieve all the costs and act on this. Tell them you will also log a complaint with the Police (Iwould threaten, even if I don't bother to go that far). Personally, I would!

That's perfectly normal. Most apartment buildings will request you do not store or leave items in the public areas, such as hallways, stairwell etc. It's a hazard to people using those areas, people can block exit areas, especially fire exits. Not saying you would, but others quite possibly will. We're not allowed to do this in our apartment block, and I also have a pushchair and kids bikes. I just have to fold my pushchair up and store when not using the best I can. The bikes, I just have to leave near the door.

I love her books too. Just reading Lady of the Rivers again! I think the White Princess is due to be released soon. Looking forward to the BBC1 adaptation, still no date of when it's due to be broadcast as yet. I would say English and British royal history is one of my main interests. Have loads of factual books as well as all the Phillipa Gregory books. Loved the Tudors too, but very historically incorrect in several parts!

Yes, some do. There are no three bed, but we've converted a small room (would be a large storage room) into a third bedroom for our 3 yr old DS. There is enough room for a toddler bed, small wardrobe and chest of drawers and some of his toys. The two other bedrooms are very large and both ensuite. We have a large open plan kitchen & living room, separate toilet and utility area. Friends are very surprised at the size of the apartment.

We live in DG and have he XXL 2 bed apartment. We pay 65k in 6 cheques and are very happy here. We overlook the pool, which is open and very well maintained. There are lovely green areas to walk around, the area is very quiet. I would highly recommend it here. I would agree a few of the Mediterranean Clusture buildings need tarting up, but that's down to the building owners. We're in Contemporary and the buildings and green areas are very well maintained. Ibn Battuta is less than five minutes by car and there is a shuttle bus service which runs from here to IB and the Metro station.

IMO, if the gardener was given or bought the bike, why is he hiding it? If he needed a place to store it, why didn't he just ask. Personally, I think it's stolen and calling the police was the right thing to do. Not saying it was your gardener that took these items, but he may be fooled by others to hide it for them. edited by Zannie on 09/01/2013

Forgive me here....but shouldn't you take the entire salary into consideration when accepting the positon?? As we all do!! Just because the school fees arent paid directly to the school but into your salary instead, isn't our problem! Emirates yes pay the school fees and housing etc, but the monthly salary is lower! When we accepted my husbands position we RESEARCHED everything! School fee costs, housing etc!! Weighed it all up to see if it was worthwhile, no nobody can predict such a huge increase in school fees rent etc...but please dont disrespect the Emirates contract and people because our salary structure happens to be different. We too are going to be out of pocket as the huge fee increase wont be covered by our "allowance" just like your "salary" wont include the increase. For goodness sake.....stop being so childish and next time before you accept a job read all the terms and conditions and research school costs etc if you have children, if you dont like it dont accept the job! [b'>Ahmen sienachick![/b'> We did the same as should everyone else and stop blaming EK for what they assume is this amazing package! Do your due diligence and make a decision from there. It appears that EK has an incredible package, and compared to some others, it is a good one. But, there are better packages out there, why not pick on them? edited by Rickadon on 09/01/2013 edited by Rickadon on 09/01/2013 Oh, here we go, the 'if you don't like it blah, blah blah' argument. Most people who come here DO research the expenditures that are expected with living here. However, when having to deal with a sudden massive and unacceptable hike in school fees, then that is unforeseen. Some of us are lucky to have their school fees, rent paid paid by our employers, most people I know in Dubai don't or now have their allowances capped. Due to the massive price hikes in rent and school fees over the last several years, many companies have scrapped or limited them. For many of us, these fees increased with such speed, most allowances couldn't keep up. Also many people couldn't just up and leave as they had commitments here. Out of interest, when researching 'everything' as you point out above, did you allow in your budget scenarios such as this? We all expect an increase in various fees here over time, it's normal. But this increase is ridiculous and you cannot criticise the people on here complaining about if.

Have you discussed puberty with him yet? I personally start with that first if you haven't. Tell him what will happen (this might be better coming from Dad), and what feelings and urges he may experience and that they are perfectly normal and not wrong. As for discussing *** and relationships, I would wait a few weeks or months after explaining the above. It maybe all too much in one go. If he asks questions in the meantime, answer him honestly. This way, he'll never be embarrassed or worried to ask you in future. It's normal for children around this age to start to get curious as to 'where do babies come from'. This is how my parent's explained I all to me, plus my Mum got me a book and sat and went through it with me. I was about 9 or 10 years old.

I cannot imagine what you're both going through, but have had friends and family suffer infertility and had IVF with no success. Maybe try what both my Uncle and a couple of our friends did. They took a break from all the trying for a baby and re-evaluated their lives. I'm guessing this would have been a very hard and heartbreaking decision, but it was taking over their lives and slowly wreaking their marriages. They told their families, so there would be no pressure from them. They started to enjoy their lives as a couple, taking all the stress away from trying for a baby. They went on holidays and started to settle for what they had and the pressure and stress went. Then, amazingly, a year or so afterwards, they found out they were pregnant and have each gone on to have a family of their own. Lucky, maybe or just because they took all the pressure and stress away, nature worked her little miracle. It goes to show, with all modern medicine such as IVF etc, the stress of having to fulfil your duty to become a parent can effect your bodies so much, it can cause infertility. In my uncle's case, (this was thirty odd years ago), they were told they had no chance of having a child, so they did adopt a newborn boy. However, 18 months later my aunt was pregnant with another little boy and then two years later gave birth to a little girl. They are all very close, and you would have no idea their first child was adopted (he always knew, but it never affected him). The doctors told her then, she probably fell pregnant due to the lack of stress and pressure on her to have a baby. She had had adopted the baby she always wanted and all that went away.

Sorry, but I don't think giving up the right to democracy, freedom of speech and privacy makes a country more secure from terrorist threats and attacks. Plenty of examples of that it can easily happen in a country which much more restrictions. There is so much more being done in every country 'at risk' than we'll ever be aware of. Releasing a story to press every now and again helps make the public feel more reassured things are being done. Personally, I don't feel anymore reassured than before. Afterall, for every terrorist cell being discovered, there could be countless more. Unfortunately, we live in a time when anywhere, especially popular with westerners, can be a target and can happen anytime. I lived and worked in London during he height of the IRA attacks. There were lots of publicity regarding security, being vigilant etc. The difference is these terrorists weren't prepared to die for their cause, whereas these terrorists acting on their religious beliefs will.

The reason the rest of he Western World and Gulf States haven't had any attacks in the last few years is because all these countries are 'seriously clued up'. I don't think we're any safer here than in London or New York. Just think an attack in the middle of London just before Christmas, now that would be a target! Thankfully, due to our security forces, nothing has happened, and hopefully never will! However, I know it could happen, it only takes one individual. The difference is, western cities will recover reasonably quickly afterwards (and sadly we have the examples to prove it). If a terrorist attack happened here, how many expats would leave? And how will it effect the tourist and business trade here? We have no way of knowing what the after effect will be. I'm guessing a lot worse.

I know that, but from the OP's original post, I'm assuming both she and her husband were born in the UK (although she doesn't mention they were) from the way the post is worded. Afterall, she's talking about having a baby. What the consequences are for her children's children citizenship is a long way off, and rules and laws can change in that time.

You are both British and hold British passports, then any child you have will be entitled to a British Passport. Both our children were born in Dubai and they are classed as British. We took all the paperwork to the British Embassy here after the birth and registered them. They then received a UK Birth Certificate and then we were able to apply for their passports. No problems at all.

Firstly, before committing to buying a place here, I would do A LOT of research. Search though old posts on EW for pros/cons. Do you have a job here? How long are you planning to stay here? Do you need to get a mortgage? and yes, there are lots up front and ongoing charges to consider. Another thing to consider, if buying a "second hand" apartment, is the maintenance. Many places here will need a lot of maintenance due to the way they were built (quickly and cheaply).

I'm a nursery teacher and no way would I want to stop a parent coming in to collect their child. I understand there are security issues and nurseries have to be wary to allow to many people wanting around a nursery, but under your circumstances, certainly odd and I also would be worried. As for the nappy, totally unacceptable. They better have a very good reason for this! My children are changed at least twice during the morning (although most are toilet trained now).
