Watch out Dubai, as Saudi is set to create the Riviera of the Middle East! It was announced on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia will create a new magnet for international tourists, with a luxurious destination that is a natural extension of the Mediterranean Sea –it sounds idyllic.

The destination has been named ‘Amaala’ and will feature opulent hotels, private villas, an academy of the arts, marinas, a yacht club and deluxe retail areas. The project will help to support the diversification of Saudi Arabia’s leisure and tourism industry, and will also encourage cultural conservation, ecological preservation and sustainability.

Found on Saudi’s northwestern coast, the location is already naturally beautiful –as those of us living in the UAE could have a new holiday destination to visit without travelling too far.

The plans were announced by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), as the Kingdom continues to invest in mega projects in a bid to diversify its income beyond the oil industry. Prince Mohammed is behind the idea of Amaala, as well as a whole reform programme called ‘Vision 2030.’

Chief executive officer of the new development, Nicholas Naples, revealed that "Amaala [will] represent a unique and transformational luxury experience," with culture, arts, fashion and sports to enjoy and explore. The new tourist destination in Saudi will be individually tailored for the uber-luxury lifestyle.
