Hi - thank you so much for all the advice and good wishes xx there was another post (reply to mine) yesterday, with a link, which I clicked on and saw that the American Hospital had CT scan facilities - I tried to reply and say thank you but I was on my tablet downstairs and didn't remember my password to login :( It's saved on my desktop upstairs, and we were in a bit of a rush to get going... Anyway, we went to the American Hospital and they did blood tests, urine tests, xrays and a CT scan - such kind, lovely, caring people there. Unfortunately the outcome wasn't too good :( tumour and spots on the liver as well as the ovarian cysts I am going back on Saturday to do MRI scans, which will apparently show more details and they said something about doing a biopsy The Surgeon there had only been there for two weeks and he suggested that I ask around and try and find a liver/pancreas specialist that he can refer me to as it would obviously be better for me to see someone who specialises in liver/pancreas problems than someone who sees one maybe two cases in a year. They did give me painkillers so I'm feeling a lot better :) thanks again for caring xx

thanks for your help - yes, I was looking for cheaper tickets for my daughter - Dhs 500 is a lot for a student to pay for two days... I feel maybe they should have cheaper tickets for school kids... Anyway, I found some on dubizzle, if anyone else is looking, there are still a few available :)

My son leaves Dubai for university tomorrow morning - can anyone please tell me if we have to do anything to cancel his visa, or is it automatic when he turns 19, as that is the expiry date. He turns 19 in a few months time and he would have to leave if he was here... Not too sure if he will come back for a visit before he turns 19, but someone told us he has to be here to cancel his visa?? Any input appreciated - thanks!

I'm trying so hard to lose weight - been doing the 5:2 diet for a few weeks and have lost 3 kg but I know I need to do more exercise and just move more! I'm sure the fitbit will help me get motivated if I have something at the end of the day to aim for - the sleep tracker might be interesting but not a necessity. I just wondered if anyone had good or bad feedback - we're hoping to go and look for one today. thanks for the advice Madge - is the Ultra no good then? I don't see it on the fitbit website...

I'm VERY impressed! the taxi driver found the keys and returned them to the address where he had picked up my daughter. I do think the phone call helped as they needed various details from us, and from those, the driver could figure out where to return them to - so happy! thanks for replies

I know this is a very long shot... but I'm desperate! we've spoken to taxi service, and from past experiences, - we have four children - most of them have lost things in taxis over the years :( ... I've called and enquired but never had any luck getting anything back ever. If by any chance, anyone found some car keys (one car key - usual black with silver, a remote car opener and a remote to open garage) in a taxi last night or this morning, please contact me. linindubai at hotmail dot com Thanks!

We've also been looking at property lately... Can anyone please explain why property in the the Green Community specifically states leasehold (and lots of people - estate agents, mortgage brokers etc have said to us that the Green Community is leasehold) and the other areas where expats may buy are termed as "freehold" I'm very confused...

I think one thing you have to be careful about - make sure that it's not ironed before trying to remove the stain as the heat "sets" it and then is impossible to remove

Hi I bought some a while ago in a little shop between Waitrose and the exit at Dubai Mall - I can't remember the name but its a small little shop that sells a few haberdashery items... I'm sorry if I'm being a bit vague but if you go there, there aren't many shops in that little area and I'm sure you'll find it easily.

If you check this link - you will see there was an earthquake in India around this time (I think they are an hour and a half ahead of us. 20.14 would take us to about quarter to 7 but maybe it takes a little while for them to travel...) - I wonder if it could've been aftershocks from that. We are in Jumeira 2 close to Dubai Ladies Club and we felt them too http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Quakes/quakes_all.html MAP 5.0 2012/06/19 20:14:05 23.631 70.214 22.5 GUJARAT, INDIA

My daughters' friend lost her i-phone on Thursday night - she lives in Sports City (I think or Motor City) I'm so hoping it might be her phone as it was her 21st birthday and she lost her phone and was so sad... She has gone back to the UK (she's at university) but her Mum and Dad are here Do you think you could e-mail me a number or an e-mail address and I'll get her Mum to contact you and describe the phone and see if its hers linindubai at hotmail dot com Holding thumbs thanks

Thanks BM - he did speak to a few taxi companies... unfortunately he can't remember what taxis he went in. He drove to Barasti and that's where he left the car - then caught a taxi to McGettigans and than another one home. They apparently aren't very helpful if you can't give them exact details...

yes - I ordered from them - was a bit wary to give credit card details so opted for the COD option. I received an e-mail immediately after placing my order and then a phone call and a few days later my goods arrived. A great service!

honey and cinnamon did the trick for my DH... CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any Chronic cholesterol is cured. As per information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol. Please check with your doctor first just in case... but we looked online when we heard this about honey and cinnamon story and there were so many sites that said the same thing he tried it and it worked!

Thank you those of you that understood what I was going through yesterday and supported me and made me feel a little better about the situation. We got confirmation today that he was accepted and went off to buy uniforms - needless to say, we couldn't get correct sizes at this late hour so I'll be spending the next few hours sewing... We fortunately had a back-up plan that we were all fairly happy with, if it had to be, but definitely not ideal as our family would've been split up. Some of his friends, however, were chatting yesterday and said they had been unable to eat or sleep worrying about whether they would get a place or not. I still can't understand the mentality behind the way the system works - do they not realise what they are actually doing to parents and students??? especially those who are told today that they don't have a place...

Exactly Vodkapops! Thank you! and what about the students (who have been there all along) who get very good grades, but someone on the waiting list gets better grades - do they get chosen before their own students?

Yes, I am having a bad evening - and who have I bitched at?? I am getting frustrated at people who obviously don't have a clue how it works at some schools and are having a go at me... I seriously don't understand how the system works and there is absolutely nothing you can do, except wait...

Why should I phone? They had interviews with teachers today and were told they'd know by tomorrow... That's cutting it rather fine to be at school in full uniform on Tuesday if they get accepted. Anyone who has been through this process knows how it goes and all I'm saying is I think it's a very poor show to keep everyone hanging on like this!!

Can you tell me how you know it is not normal policy - have you ever had a child of yours go to sixth form in the UAE? The results for the exams were only received about 10 days ago - the 23rd August actually. and then decisions are made...

I'm not tarring anyone or any school. I think it is a very bad policy and I know most schools in the UAE leave it til the last week or so before school begins to let students know whether they have a place or not in sixth form. IT IS BIZARRE!!
