Hi, [i'>Long story[/i'> short, I am out of Dubai (UAE) and need to cancel my maids visa. Will not be returning to Dubai, and her visa is good until July. Is there a way to cancel her visa from abroad?

tells me everyday how he doesn't like it here and misses our old home (in Canada). wow, your DS sounds just like me, except im 26 and scream and cry everyday how i miss Canada to DH.... thank-fully im moving back next week after 2 years of being here!!! (i know that was un-helpful, but want you to realize that what he is feeling is REAL, and not just about being a young and new person to this country- as me being the age i am feel the exact same way as your young son!) Best of luck to your little one!! edited by tdale on 03/10/2011

Hi, I'm trying to find a 4 or 5 drawer plastic storage unit that can be wheeled around (to keep makeup, jewlrey, hair stuff and be able to move it from bedroom mirror back to bathroom easily). I have seen something close to what I want at C4 for 300 AED, wondering if anyone had come across something similar at a lower price elsewhere? Just one of the many reasons I miss Target! Wouldn't ikea sell something like this?

1) yes 2) ALWAYS haggle here ;) 3) yes, i had to choose fabric to get quote (they sometimes have books of fabic you can borrow and take home to pick through) 4)yes, deposit then remainder (but remainder fee is VERY small compared to total amount). 5)1 month is plenty of time- it usually takes most places (that i have used) 1 to 2 weeks (unless the fabic is out of stock) 6)all my curtains are on tracks :) all that being said.... im sticking to ikea next time (but for personal reasons :)

not illegal if the pub has a licence not to go off topic.... But how many of you ladies actually have a liquor license, AND carry it with you out to the pub each time?

tdale, was that in the UK? yes it is- i attend a clinic in London :) When push comes to shove- find a Dr. that will listen to you, so you can get treated sooner, rather then later! (saves a lot of headache!!)

I know in the UK, they only really consider a couple to have issues after 2 years of active trying. sorry i had to comment, as this is incorrect. DH and I have been diagnosed as "infertile" after only 9 months of TTC, as we had 3 different things working against us which we were lucky enough to find out "early" on. If you EVER suspect something could be wrong, or treatments are not working, then PLEASE see your Dr. or find a new one who will listen! Happy to say i get to start IVF in December, now that i have saved $$ for it, after what will be 19 months of TTC! best of luck Zeynab! Hmmm, sorry. just what I've been told. thats okay :) live and learn.... edited by tdale on 18/09/2011

I started a year after marriage.... and now that was 2 years ago and still no baby! as pp said "Making babies should always be fun and the element of surprise is the best bit ever! " sadly many of us women dont get to have a family this way, as they get to see that starting a family goes from: fun, to clockwork, to visiting the dr. every few weeks. Im moving onto IVF this December :) and i suggest that if you think you are ready, go and see you Dr. to discuss what lies ahead!

we always have workers (not our workers) coming and sitting on our front lawn, so i made it a point today to take the dogs out front and pee all over where they had just been sitting (while they were watching) it was great to see the looks on their face :)

I am an expat myself and I can never call UAE a racist country... wtf??? seriously??? come shopping with my husband and I any day of the week and see how we get treated in this F* racist country... i being a white person and him being Indian ;) then you can tell me if you still think its [b'>not [/b'>a racist country Hahah! I am white, DH is from the subcontinent, i know exactly what you mean. Everything gets sorted out so much faster when i`m around. He once was called ''a driver'' and myself ''the madame'' by a sales staff in Debs! LOL! We keep the copy of our marriage certificate in the car, just in case of a police check up or anything, because nobody believes that we are a couple! edited by Wild Mint on 15/09/2011 OMG THANK-YOU!! My DH gets called the Driver ALL the time. And anytime he answers the door- they dont believe he owns the house!!! omg.... i could go on and on.... (but will save the rant for when i move out of this country :) )

Thanks for the replies (only just saw them-had to step out for a bit). @tdale - thanks had forgotten about Crate & Barrel - will check it out! OK, local [i'>pampered chef [/i'>supplier - is pampered chef the name of a store? or am I missing something. And have discovered Home Sense - my favorite so far as well. I know the others, Walmart etc. sell kitchen-ware - but not quite the same as a specialised store. google pampered chef, its easy enough to find. and the website helps you find a local sales person. HLH!

Quite sad that so many innocents people had to die to aid the US pursuit of oil that does not belong to them! Wow? REALLY???? Then should i now expect the US to go to war with Canada, who is second place in the world with the amount of oil they hold? *rolls eyes*

sniffmonster- so very sorry, but as mentioned this is a rescue being set up for Northern Breed Dogs (eg. Husky, Malamute, etc..). It will hopefully begin along with the new pet travel scheme to the UK, which starts January 1st. I will post again a link to the website, as soon as it is up and running. Thanks ladies!

I need to be clear about something, but dont want to start a mini-war :) Drivers in Canada so NOT all drive like they do in Toronto!!! haha... Actually it is greatly known in other areas of the country (i.e Ottawa, Montreal) of how BAD the drivers in Toronto are, compared to those other areas. I have lived 24+ years of my life in Canada and so speaking from experience.... Toronto drivers SUCK. Though, on the other hand, Ottawa drivers are so NOT aggressive, that sometimes you actually wish they were just so traffic could "move along" a little faster.... But anyway, as other posters have mentioned, you MUST learn to merge! :)

Thanks Ladies! Im in the process of opening a small kennel/ shelter in the UK for Northern Breed dogs. So, the idea is to send any northern breed rescue from Dubai to that kennel and then from there off to a good home :) Im currently the owner of 2 Siberians..... and am so sad/ devastated each day i keep them here in Dubai (thank-fully they are moving with me to the UK in a few months time) :) (i rescued one of the 2 while living here) I will post the web address to the rescue site, as soon as it is in working order over the next few months!

Could not agree more!! I will actually be starting a Northern Breed rescue here in Dubai; which will relocate rescued northern breed dogs to the UK / free of charge (and hopefully find them some homes ) I hope to have this set up by Janurary when the new travel scheme comes into play!

as far as i know *i could be wrong* when you have legall things like a will done here in UAE it is according to Sharia. Meaning, everything you have will go to your son (if you were to pass away) as in Sharia law it always goes to the eldest son. HOWEVER, you can have this changed, and things can go to other children/ family members- but it is a [b'>lot[/b'> of paperwork.... i know as i just had to do some for FIL :)
