How do you cope with your life? When do you find time for yourself? Is it possible in Dubai alone?

The area is not completed yet and you will definitly need a car. I do not have any info about the layout of the townhouses as I live in an apartment. However, they look huges on the outside with many cars. Therefore, I am assuming that many families are already settled in. The gate entrance is indeed a pain but eventually new gates will be opened. Hope this help

apart from allergies, what is wrong with children having a slice of cake for someone's birthday? Seriously they are children.... let them enjoy it. Oh yes don't start again... too many posters are so against it that they can't even see the logic in others threads...

I am one of those mother who likes the idea of having a little celebration with classmates and obviously a nice cake at school. Many posters here do not favor the idea of having a cake for many reasons. One of those is regarding children's allergies which is of course a good reason for the ban. I favor a specialised school for children with allergies problems. A school where the teachers are qualified for these cases, where the canteen offers appropriate or even personalized lunches, where the ban of a birthday cake will be implemented, etc etc... The other schools could have all kind of parties, different kind of cakes, etc etc... without any complains from any mothers. Anyway....

There should have specialized schools just for children facing the allergies pb. They should have specialized schools for people without empathy or common sense exactly... the one that you have specified will the one where cakes and celebrations will be allowed without any complains. wow, you seriously are something else... what my dad would classify as one with a few screws loose... Just hope for your sake that your child never has life threatening allergies... cause I seriously believe in karma. If my child has life threatening allergies, I would be pleased to send her to one of the specialised school. At least I will feel more secured for her life. In addition, why other children have to suffer by not having a piece of cake?? because of my child's allergies?? Oh and on the quotes Wendopia, JoyceB and IAMVP, your comments aren't better than mines.

Is it ok to give a nanny a gift or some money? I was thiniking about getting her nails done with probably a nice dress. Is this too much or should I just give her some money? there are a lot of deals on cobone or group buying websites..they are selling watches, pendant sets for decent prices. I have no clue about your budget but these are things these guys like and would definitely appreciate. yes, I was thinking about some makeover services using one of those deals... thanks

The best period to visit is the week before the salary comes in right at the opening hour (4 pm). What I really enjoy is that at the ticket counter, they give you a little bracelet for your kids where you will have to write his name and the parent's phone number just in case.

I have tried lively and health factory. Both of them are good in their deliveries and food selection. Almost the same price and very flexible with your schedule. I reco to take the week end off or at least one day each week so you can take a break from their food. I slightly prefer lively. Good luck

OP I am so sorry to hear that and understand how difficult this is. It seems that you have and are still trying to work this out but not him. I strongly believe that you should forget this idea as this will only add more pain. You are definitly not alone and probably have no clue about how strong you are and can be. Do something different like getting a good spa, a walk in a park, a glass of wine, a drive along the emirates, a paint... anything that can keep yourself busy. Hope you will get better. Good luck

These items were quite useful: -Car seat; -Phones: most parents won't bother buying it; -Babybjorn sling: very useful; -Play gym -Voucher to any furniture store for a nice and comfortable rocking chair; -New born bath tub The pre-paid cleaning service is a brilliant idea.

AD & Sharjah fines are already discounted. Dubai has made an exeption a couple month back (for a short periode) to encourage drivers to renew their registration.

I think the Lady in the White Lexus must have been Keila :)) lol... I do not have the privilege to pick up my LO :) Also, if I was there, I will make sure to have a little chat with the WIWL for the sake of my own child's safety (confident or not)... that includes waiting by her car if did not catch her before. Now expressing yourself on this forum is like having a chat to the principal. the impact of your message is different.

I understand the lack of confidence. I just don't understand venting her frustration on a public forum. Her specific post is a message that she failed to passed on when she got a chance. Now it is too late... therefore, her message is useless ok ok... I will stop now... edited by Keila on 15/11/2011

What I am about to say may not sound nice but it is only true. This is the way things will always be,you have married into an arab family and they live by their traditions. The sooner you accept this and look at it from a positive perspective, the sooner you will be at peace. Totally agree. He will never change... you and only YOU, will need to accept and adjust yourself. You can tell him how you feel but do not expect him to change his habbits. From my experience, it will be just a waste of time and effort. Just do like all arab ladies of the families. Go with the flow (lead by the men of the family) and keep your thoughts for yourself.

It is on Al Khail road but now, to access it, you will need to take Emirate road (direction AD) as they recently closed the big roundabout linking Emirates and Al Khail roads. Once you are on the Al Khail road (direction Dubai), you will find only one opened gate to your right hand side (gate 10) to enter this area. Lots of construction works. Good luck

Around 110 (wash & blow dry only). The ones offered by Hair Works are overpriced and generally not as good as others. How odd - I think the exact opposite. IMO it is one of the only places that the hairdressers actually listen and do a good job. I never come out looking over styled with "big" hair or with so much product on it is completely flat like a lot of places do here. I have been to cheaper ones but regretted it as it often end up looking like I could have done a better job myself. They are good in color, cut, treatment, etc... i also agree that they listen to you and do a good job. However, they blow dry is very basic and charge this service too much for this particular service.

If you do decide to go on with this idea; just make sure the day she will realize that she has precious 'skills'; she could ask for more in terms of money, living conditions, working hours, etc. I would definitly hire her if she decides to look around for the same position. A nanny with a UAE driver license (paid off) is rare on a market.
