Hi, We were DV 2012 lottery winners. I would suggest you go to the 2nd link given by Alismum and go to the DV lottery section. There is a plethora of information there and you may even find a thread for your home country. We had our interview at the Abu Dhabi embassy and it was pretty straightforward. I got through immediately and DH was put on AP but we received his after about 3 weeks. You just have to make sure you have all your documentation as per the list and be honest in the interview. I couldn't find much info on any interview experiences in AD specifically but it was similar to many other posters worldwide. Good luck to your friend! Its really nerve wrecking but well worth it. We already have our green cards as we went in last year to activate and are moving in 2 months time.

I find it easier to just leave the baby at home with DH and do my shopping. Cuts your shopping time in half as you not fussing with car seats and strollers etc. I usually schedule it while baby is either napping or just bathed and fed. Thats normally after 8pm. Luckily we have the luxury of supermarkets closing late here.

Hi Icedqueen, I might be interested in it, although I would prefer to do a course rather then self study. Can you tell me more about your experience? Did you find that the hypnobirthing helped with the pain and discomfort? I would love to hear more about how it worked for you. The self study was quite easy and I managed to do it at my own pace and during my own time (I have a very busy 3 year old whom I was potty training at the time as well). I had a slow labour from the Friday evening until Sunday morning and used the methods that I learnt in the hypnosis course to keep calm and manage the pain. Of course you do feel pain but you manage to "zone" into your special place. I don't know how to describe it though. It did help me to prepare for this birth as I knew much more and did not doubt myself and my body - the course teaches you and helps with confidence levels as well. All in all, I am glad with the outcome as I was terrified during my first birthing time which of course ended up in a c-section. This basically prepared me and gave me the confidence to have a successful VBAC.

I had a successful VBAC 10 weeks ago. From the day I found out that I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to have a natural birth for the second. Recovery with my first was terrible and I did not want to go through the same thing again. I found Dr. Raj at American Hospital and she was amazing throughout my entire pregnancy and during labour and birth. Of course I did so much of research during my 40 weeks that I ended up with a 4 page birth plan. The plan went out the window when I went into prodomal labour from Friday night and only gave birth on Sunday. By then I was so exhausted and in so much of pain as baby was OP that I opted for an epidural. She managed the entire process wonderfully. The epi did fail at 8cm so at the end I had kind of a natural labour. The recovery was amazing. 3.74kg baby and I ended up with 3 stitches which was nothing in comparison.... and absolutely no PND this time around. ETA: I took RRLT from around 25 weeks to strengthen my uterus as I understand that it does help to make your contractions more effective. Also took EPO from 36 weeks and did a Hypnobabies self study course from 32 weeks. <em>edited by Icedqueen on 10/09/2012</em>

Baby boy cakes was born on 24th may at 5.20pm. Forceps delivery after being induced at 9am on 23rd. He's a big boy 3.97kg. He's in ICU still as he is pretty bruised and has a fractured collar bone, hopefully he will be out tomorrow. I can't praise the medcare staff enough. Congratulations cakes. Hope baby cakes is doing well.

Fourways Gardens is quite a nice little area but traffic on William Nicol is a nightmare and thats the only road that leads to Fourways Gardens. Where is your job located? You may want to look at an area closer to your job. In terms of safety, there are no areas in Johannesburg that are 100% safe. Townhouse complexes are safer than stand alone houses. I think Fourways Gardens has access controlled boom gates at the entrance so it makes it a little safer. There are a few good schools in the area. The ones that I can remember are Crawford and Dainfern College - both are quite close to Fourways Gardens. You will need a car to get anywhere as you don't get taxis or public transportation in that area. Rule of thumb is to keep your doors locked at all times and make sure that there is nothing of value visible to street sellers or beggars as smash and grab incidents are quite high in that area (actually anywhere!). Keep your bag in your boot and cell phone out of the way. Don't wear any expensive jewelry or keep your windows shut.

Thanks for the info SweetLily. Will be placing my order by the weekend. I am drinking the tea at the moment but I cannot see myself having 4 cups a day from week 36. Figured it would be easier to just have the tablets on those days that I don't wish to drink the tea. Very interesting group on FB. Didn't really think of myself as a natural living parent but when I read about the groups' philosophy I can definitely relate. Everyone around me thinks I am crazy with all my ideas. They all say that I read too much lol. Lovely birth story btw under the notes section. I was in tears. I wish I could have a HWBAC but I am just so afraid that what if I am one of the 0.5% unfortunate people that could suffer uterine rupture.

There is no difference between a business and tourist visa. Its normally stamped in your passport as a B1/B2 visa. There is a possibility that he has been placed under administrative processing especially if he has been traveling within this region as well. We were placed under AP and waited over 4 months before we were granted a 10 year multiple entry visa about 3 years ago. I know of some people that have had to wait about 6 months before they were approved. Did you not get a case number to follow up on? If so, you can go to the website and check your visa status: http://98.131.161.103/index.asp

Another vote here for Kenwood. Still the best machine around. I had (just sold!) the Chef Titanium 1400w. Makes everything from cakes to breads to anything you can think of. I will definitely buy another one when we settle in our next destination. You actually don't need any other machine like a liquidiser, coffee grinder, sausage maker, mincer, juicer, etc etc etc as the machine is powerful enough to be used for any of these jobs. The only drawback is that it is a heavy machine but I guess it is solid thats why? KithcenAid does look pretty and I was contemplating buying one. But when I looked at specs I realised that the Kenwood wins hands down... 300w vs. 1400w so there is no comparison.

Hi all, I am 31 weeks at the moment. Guess date is June 26 so I could be June/July depending on when my princess will decide to come. Pregnancy has been going well this time around. Have only gained about 5.5kg's which is great! I gained over 20kg's in my last pregnancy so I was about 12kg overweight to start off with unfortunately. Another girl so I haven't even bought much as I have loads that DD did not even wear. I can feel lots of movement... my tummy actually moves from side to side. Lovely feeling :D Hope everybody else is doing well.

Hi ladies. Don't know if it is too late to start looking for a doula. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and a VBAC hopeful. I'm with Dr. Raj at American Hospital. I started with the hypnobabies course last week and have decided that DH that he is definitely not going to be a helpful birth partner! (Disturbed me twice while I was in the middle of a session :() I have decided that I am going to need support from a doula if he cannot even understand the basic concept of hypnosis. Don't even know where to start or whom to contact. If anyone knows a doula or can pass a recommendation please do so. TIA.

I was with Dr. Shiva in 2009 for my previous pregnancy and like many others turned to EW for advice on which OB/Gyn to choose for my pregnancy and birth. I seen such rave reviews like the below of Dr. Shiva that I decided to go to her. It was the worst decision of my life. I would never recommend her to anyone. Only after discussing with DH today about the reviews, he mentioned that I should post because so many women would choose her based on these glowing reviews which was definitely not the case for me. All her appointments were late and rushed throughout the pregnancy. Felt like I was a cow in an assembly line... go in, weigh, wee in jar and wait for doc who takes 5 mins. Any questions dispelled by no problem or yes/no. I found that she did an unnecessary scan at every appointment and scared me every time saying that the umbilical cord is too close to DD's neck. I also saw that wonderful wall of appreciation cards and thought that I am in good hands. I also thought she was pro natural delivery hence the decision to stay with her. Needless to say I suffered an unnecesarian due to her mis-management of my labour and delivery. I would not recommend her or Medcare to anyone. I can write up my entire experience with the labour and delivery + non care @ Medcare but that requires another thread. Just wanted to add my bit. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have been with Dr Shiva since 12 weeks pregnant. In my initial meeting I wasnt expecting much as I've heard she is great at what she does but everything is rushed etc. my experience was the absoloute opposite. My appointment was 10 minutes or so delayed which really isnt a big deal for me. Its possible to run late. When walking into her office its fantastic to see one wall full of appreciation cards and photos of babies she has delivered. It really gives you a settling feeling that your in good hands. Dr Shiva took her time to get my medical history, did a scan to check on baby and asked what questions I had for her. We discussed a natural delivery etc and she was more than happy with this. Since then I've had minor spotting twice and each time was asked to come into emergency. I had no problem with this. I was seen by the on call emergency gyni who ordered a scan straight away to check on baby and me. Once i got back from both emergency visits I dropped a quick mail to Dr Shiva to update her as I was told the bleeding may be due to a low lying placenta. She called me personally the very same day on both occasions to let me know that she had been updated by the emergency gyni also and helped me with what I need to do next to ensure no more bleeding. I like small things about her for example I'm always greeted with a smile as I enter her room for my appointments. She will refer to me as 'darling' which is sweet and she speaks gently. This may mean nothing to some but I've encountered some outregeously rude gyni's so Dr Shiva really is a breath of fresh air for me. I think shes shes absoloutely fantastic, with a brilliant bed side manner and of course shes very profesional. I hope shes there when I give birth and I'm certain she will be if I need a c/s due to a low lying placenta. Otherwise Its not a deal breaker for me if she isnt as I've now experienced a few of the gyni doctors at medcare due to my emergency visits and I dont have any complaints.

I find Dubizzle is taking the pi*** these days asking ridiculous amounts of money for second hand stuff. I have sold quite a few items on dubizzle and have noticed that many people offer such ridiculous amounts that you have to hike the price a little to get a decent price for your item especially if it is in a good condition. I even had someone haggling the price down for an item from Dhs50 to something like Dhs10!

I bought one when we went on holiday to NY. Sadly, DD just refused to be in it. She quickly figured out that if she runs fast enough, we could not hold her back and she would be in the literally hanging in the air. It was fun for her but not for us as we got awful stares from everyone else. I still have it... maybe I should sell it? It looks like a backpack with a monkey on it.

Same here... quite uneventful but waiting to find out the gender so that I know what to do with DD's clothes. Now that the MS has eased up I don't really feel pregnant anymore. Just fat wearing maternity clothing already! Can't feel any movement as yet and it will probably be a while before I do since my placenta is anterior.

There are 2 different cards? Excellent just when I thought I'd figured it out :D. The clinic near safa is the closest to us. Can you go to any one of the clinics on either card or only on the MOH one? You can only use the Ministry of Health card within their network of clinics/hospitals. See their website http://www.moh.gov.ae/en/About/Pages/ServiceProviders.aspx. All Ittihad/Etihad (sp?) is somewhere in the list. Its the clinic near Safa gate 4 not the one that is between Al Wasl and Jumeirah roads. Hubby went to Al Baraha to get the health card instead of Al Bada thats how we ended up with this card instead.

Don't think its anything to do with the agencies but rather the individual that they send to you. Its a draw of the luck! I've been doing my own cleaning for the past few months after many horror stories with loads of agencies but since I am pregnant and have awful morning sickness I called in maids.ae today. Besides the fact they sent me someone fresh off the plane from Manila (like yesterday), she took 1 hour and 35 minutes to clean one balcony! The balance of the time was spent in dusting the main bedroom, the lounge and then cleaning the kitchen which was not even cleaned properly. No time to complete bathrooms or do the floors. If they going to charge Dhs35/hr and have minimum hours they should at least send properly trained ladies.

Did my DD's ears at 5 months at a place called Kiara (sp) in Dubai Mall. Even got a certificate of bravery and a little teddy. She squealed a bit afterwards but that was it. 2 years old now and has no clue that they are even there. My mom did mine when I was about 6 months and I cannot remember. I think its best to do it when they cannot pull at their ears so before 6 months is ideal.

DH made a mistake and took out the MOH card instead of the Dubai Health card but it worked out fine in the end. We did all DD's immunizations at Al Ittihad clinic near Safa Park. Its never full. We would just walk in and wait for 5 minutes while they found her card and sent us in. Whole process would never be more than 20 minutes. I will definitely take out the MOH health card for the second LO.

Oh you poor thing. I find ginger tea has been helping with mornng sickness. Hopefully you will be better once you get past the 12 weeks. Thanks. Nothing works for me... have tried ginger tea, ice chips, lemons, salty biscuits etc. I guess I am one of those very lucky women that suffer with morning sickness all day long :( . Everything irritates my senses right now. It eased off at around 14-15 weeks during my last pregnancy so I just have to wait it out. At the end of it all, I had a healthy little girl so thats something to look forward to :)

Open the movie in Quicktime and click on file - save as and select format "ipod" or "iphone". It will automatically convert to M4V which is suitable for ipad. Open itunes and then add the selected file to library. When you sync your device the movies will update to your ipad. Does this work if the movie is on a DVD? You need to first transfer the movie from the DVD to the Mac. Haven't tried it as yet but then I think you would need a DVD ripper. Google mac forums to get more info on transferring movies from DVD. I've only transfered avi files and other home videos directly from the SD card. Good luck!

I only use the synthetic wash function - 40 degrees wash cycle and 800 rpm. I rarely use any of the other programmes. I sometimes add the intensive function if the clothing is heavily soiled. Sounds like your washing machine has a problem if you are using the correct slot and the fabric conditioner is still left behind. If its still under warranty you should have LG replace the unit.

There seems to be a bit of confusion on the term PR - as in Public Relations vs. PRO as in the guy that does all the visa related stuff here. The article seems to be in reference to PR people. The term PRO is quite loosely used here and does cause confusion.
