She's leaving in April & also just have delivered my second baby with her I can say she's very overstretched with patient numbers & it has definitely affected the standard of care.

Put an appeal in & I honestly don't think they looked at it- rejected. It's pathetic really when you think that these ladies can get into every other major European country . It's not as if they're that exclusive about who they allow into ireland to live & exist on social welfare ..

Hi ladies, I'd really like to get my hands on some colorful Moroccan tiles to create a feature in my home. I know there are tile shops aplenty here but wondered if any in particular carry a good range of these tiles. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Xo

Hi ladies, I'm about 33 weeks gone now and just over 2 weeks ago I did the GD test. My doc said my numbers weren't high enough to be considered GD but still a concern. She asked me to buy a kit to monitor my bloods , which I've done since . My day time readings are fine but am finding it very difficult to get the morning readings below 100 ( doc says they need to be <95) . I've tried different solutions such as having a proteins/carb snack at bedtime, getting up during the night and having a snack and even having some ice-cream before bed ( some ladies on a uk pregnancy forum) but still no joy. I just wondered if anyone out there was in the same boat or has rectified the problem without having to take insulin. Also feeling a bit annoyed by the fact that nobody ( neither my doc or the endocrinologist ) has offered any real practical or nutritional advice , anything I've learned (and I'm totally new to this) has been through reading up on it. I met with the endo' a few days ago and he is giving me one week to get the fasting sugars down or if not will need an insulin shot at night . I do realize that sometimes this is the only solution to stab aliasing BS levels but feel like I've been given very little time , guidance on how this can be achieved through diet/ exercise. Any tips , experiences, advice great received xoxo

Hi ladies, A few years ago I was told I had a hiatus hernia, which is basically a condition that causes a lot of reflux and general discomfort. It was treated at the time with losec and since that I only get it on and off but nothing too severe. Since falling pregnant I had a few terrible bouts of it and it feels like the pregnancy has awakened the whole thing. I've had a terrible wend with it and am wondering if anyone has/ had this and do you have any advice that might help. To let u know what I've been doing to relieve it, I have a natural yoghurt every day, take Rennie or gaviscon when it gets bad (though it really doesn't help) and am trying to eat smaller meals. Unfortunately I can't say any of these things r having any major impact. I have spoken to my doc about and while she did give some of the above advice, she said its just part of pregnancy and hopefully it will get better as the pregnancy progresses. Any help greatly appreciated. X

Does anyone know how early they can detect the gender of your baby here? I know it's traditionally around the 20 wk mark but I've heard that there has been more advances recently and it's possible to tell at 12 wks. I just don't know if that applies to Dubai.......

Hi Ladies, Following a recent check up my nanny has been advised to have a Pap smear done. I've called the Iranian hospital 3 times but can't seem to get an appointment as they won't answer the phone!! I thought perhaps someone else has had this situation and could advise. Ps...she doesn't have health insurance, although we've taken her for her health card. From what we can figure out its of no rel benefit to her. Thank u

We stayed at Anantara Dhigu last April with our then 1 yr old. It was a fantastic trip, wonderful accommodation, service and the perfect place to reconnect as a family. We chose this island due to its proximity to Male by speedboat as we didn't want to be doing a sea plane or a long boat journey with the baby. Go for the all inclusive if u can coz otherwise it really does add up. The hotel were great to accommodate the needs of our child and some of the lovely Mauritian girls in the kiddies club babysat for us a couple of nights. No complaints.

Hi ladies, I've done a good bit of research on the above topic but there doesn't appear to be too much happening class wise for toddlers in the Jumeirah area. I'm not particularly fussed about the type of class more something to break up a day for my LO. Any suggestions or info' would be great . Thanks

Back again ladies with the latest update. I have removed the sides of her cot and she was involved in this. I explained to her that cots are for babies and we were making her a 'big girls bed'. She couldn't wait for her dad to come home to show him. I also let her choose which teddy she wanted in the bed with her. She's very happy about me reading the 2 books in the room , after this I turned out the main light and told her its time to go to sleep, I sat of the chair for a bit then left and repeated this for 20 mins by which time she was asleep. She seemed much less edgy when she knew I was going to sit on the chair, tho I know this cant go on forever either. That's aid she hasn't woken yet and even that is progress as she would often have woken 3 a 5 times between bedtime and now (10pm) . Lets see what the night brings, I just hope we don't have a 2 hr wide awake session during the night which we quite often do! While I realize this is far from the 'ideal' bedtime, it's certainly a lot less stressful for her and us and hopefully she will have more restful nights from now on. The bottle in bed is also gone tho strangely it didn't really bother her. I'll give an update in a few days when more of a pattern has developed. I can't thank u all enough for your advice. Xxxx

Hi ladies, thank you all so much for taking the time to write about your experiences with your babies. Really appreciate this and soooo helpful. So week 1 is down now and we agreed at the start that this would be our cut off point if we saw no real improvements, which we haven't . Sydneygal I can't believe u only had 1 night of 20 mins crying ! That's amazing. I also thought the video monitor was a fantastic idea as one night I was in the kitchen and could have swore I heard a big thud and was sure she had climbed out of the cot and fallen on the tiles and I felt sick going in to check. Somebody also suggested introducing a bed which might work as in some ways I think the cot has become a negative place for her. Let me explain what I / we were doing in the past re bedtime, dinner approx 5.30/ 6, wash and pj's after that, read some books on the sofa in the kitchen, make a bottle for bed, into bed @ 7 / 7.30 where I would sit / stand next to the cot pat and shush. The problem was this could take up to an hr before she slept and even then she could wake up to 5 times before we even went to bed, and one of us would go in to settle her each time. She also woke during the night and after a while (we both work full time & wake @ 5.30 ev' morn) we would take her into our bed. In the end I felt like she was waking constantly in the hopes that it was time to get into bed with us. This has been happening since she was 16 mths and we felt she really wasn't getting a proper nights sleep , our whole evening and many nights were taken up with settling her, which is ultimately what drove us to sleep training . I think I should add that she is quite a nervous child who generally needs lots of reassurance, takes a long time to warm to new people, is very shy in company etc etc.. She has become very fretful about bed since we started the training and the minutes we start the routine or mention it she starts to cry, tell me please mummy no and is completely on edge. So..........I think what we were doing this wk is..... sit in the room but away from the cot, read 2 books, then tell her its time to sleep and mummy / daddy will be here but no interaction. hopefully this will give her the reassurnce she needs for now and then over time we can phase this out. Putting her down awake in her cot, explaining it was bedtime and leaving, then coming to the door every 20 mins or so to reassure) was too extreme for her. I forgot to mention that after the 2 / 2.5 hours of crying and eventually passing out she was still waking loads during the night and is at this point she is a very tired little girl .Thank you all again so much for ur ideas, support, time and sharing your invaluable experiences. .

Hi all, we are planning a move to Jumeirah in the next month 6 wks. Having spoken to some people and checking on dubizzle for the past 6 months, I get the feeling that a lot of the villas, particularly compound type ones, are not advertised on sites such as dubizzle. Is this the case and if so I would be very grateful if you could tell me of any good compounds with 3 bed plus maids accommodation. Thank u xoxo

Hi ladies, I've been trying many different ways to book a seat for our 17 mth old for our Christmas flights home. I'm finding it extremely difficult using either skyscanner or Klm which is the airline we will be traveling with. Because she's not yet 2 it's causing me major problems. I called the service provider on skyscanner but no joy.. Some airline websites are really well set up for this option but this particular one isn't. Unfortunately the other airline carriers are really expensive so we can't fly with them. Has anyone out there experienced or more importantly overcome this??????

Hi There. I was wondering if anyone could provide any advice re our situation for sponsoring a maid with regard to the tenancy contract rules. I am here in Dubai on a seperate work visa to my husband and I propose to sponsor our maid on my visa. My husband is starting a new job soon and hence his visa will not be processed for a few weeks. The issue is that our tenancy contract, DEWA etc. are in his name. Does anyone know if it is okay to sponsor a maid where the name of the sponsor is different to the name on the tenancy contract, DEWA bill etc. (we could provide attested versions of our marriage certificate if necessary)?

Sarah joy...I think that's a very good suggestion and he could really do with going out there and meeting new people. Men seem to thrive on challenges and love 'doing' so I'll def sit down with him and see what's out there for him... Also think the weekly support meet might be good so hopefully he won't feel too embarrassed about going along. Thanks a lot . Xx

Hello Ladies..Im planning on hiring a nanny this August (full time/live in)I would like her to be able to travel back home to Ireland next summer but I seem to recall some posts on here saying that nannies can't travel with their sponsers/family until they are employed for a full yr. Yes Burjuman offers a good selection but be prepared to pay anthing up to 3/4,000 dhs just for a head peace/hat. It's alot when u add in all the other expense that goes into the day out. Didn't go last yr but went the previous 2. The weather can have ahuge bearing on how the day goes...

As u say this may well just be his personality and Im really not trying cause u any undue worry, I am a mother mysel (as well as a special education teacher) and I know how protective we feel about our lo's. Does his behaviour impact on his school life? While all schools follow a daily timetable, there is often unexpected changes to this foe many reasons. Does that upset him? In early years education, socialisation is a huge component of their development, learning to share, co-operate in groups, try to see the world beyond themselves, respect for others etc...How is he doing with this? Has his teacher raised any concerns about this? The hyper sensitivity to change is probably the thing that I would be most concerned about. Do u think maybe there is a possibility he may be on the autistic spectrum ? If u are very worried it might help to see a clinical or behavioral psychologist. It might give u the answers ur looking for and as well as that offer some useful recommendations and ways to make your son feel less threatened by change etc....Best of luck with this, u sound like a great Mom.
