hi! as a family for 4 ( 2 adults 2 young children) we save money if: Go shopping every 2/3 weeks at vegetable and fruits market al Aweer and go at Union cooperative there as well ( other locations can be more expensive like Barsha mall branch as I discovered) to stock up on meat, and rice, cans etc.. I go to carrefour once a month as well to get the western products I like Go local mart for bread etc.. Bring coffee/sandwich/fruits to work instead or ordering Buy toys for kids second hand (dubizzle or baby baazar) Buy clothes only if needed and only if on sales or at MAX,carrefour etc.. Entertainment for the children having play dates, use the building pool, go to park, or at affordable play areas, offer on groupon/cobone Order food which I dont cook at home (asian food etc..) 1 or 2 times a month maximum Do things myself as much as I can ( cook, clean, repairs etc..) Limit holidays abroad ( last time was 3 years ago!) Limit the tips Sell what I do not need anymore Having simple activities at home : reading, decorating, activities with children, watching movies etc... hope that helps!

hi I am a mum of two young kids and working part time, yet I felt I was struggling managing home/work and have play time with the kids, couple time etc.. in a relaxed way. it has been exhausting as I had no help at all. since 6 months I got a part time agency cleaner to come at least 1 or 2 times a week so I can concentrate on my family once back home. I should have done it earlier. nobody will give you a medal for doing it all alone so unless you feel just fine with all the chores, get help if you can. if your kids are at school/nursery then you will manage just fine...

Hello Contact al Amal hospital in Dubai as they are dedicated for Psychiatry, and they are part of Ministry of Health so pay and benefits would be ok. You could also try your luck paying a visit to Rashid Hospital as your qualification and experience would be desirable there. There are Psychiatric wards and also home visit team which could be more interesting for you. Ask to meet the Nursing Director directly as its most likely your best chance to have a quick interview. Hope that helps Papaye

I didn't express myself well as I came for a coolant leakage and after they "fixed" it, announced me that my car doesn't start and that extent of damage is greater as another problem occurred when they tested it, with high estimate of repair. they didn't repair the great damage only the leakage. so leaving a car which works and been told now it doesn't is shocking to me. I wish I could understand the logic of mechanics to evaluate how this damage could have occurred. they told me that I should have come earlier to fix it, putting blame on me, while I could drive it fine and once it happens at their garage they don't take any responsibility. anyway thank you for your reply

Hello I post rarely but I need as I am shocked and angry. garage supposed to repair my car as it had a leakage, after they "fixed" the problem, they announced me that it doesn't start anymore and that new problems appeared, with of course a huge bill to pay. they deny any wrongdoing and responsibility for the damages. where can I complain? any advice? I am feeling bad that I may been taken for fool

Hi I was confronted with the same problem and I found only three options to safely travel in taxis with my baby from 9 months old to 2 years and a half. Google: combi coccoro car seat and stroller, sit and stroll ( I bought it but found it very uncomfortable and difficult to fit so sold it), and orbit baby toddler car seat and stroller. I used on almost daily basis the last one and found it from far the best, until your little one reach two years old, then it becomes a little a bit heavy to move around but manageable.the car seat alone weights around 12kgs so that gives you an idea. Hope that helps.

Hello ladies, I passed by a stand in Dubai Mall with lovely Emirati hand made stuff. There are small purses, wallet,Ipad cover etc... Its done by poor Emirati women, and it is distributed by Sougha, A Khalifa fund. It is on the Ground Floor, at the entrance of the Jewels Souk, very near by Lafayettes Galeries. They will be there until 5th December. Its a very good initiative and I wanted to share it here. Cheers.

Consumer beware of Market Day "discounts" at the local Spinneys. South African oranges are advertised as 11.95aed the bag instead of the regular 17.95aed... I am thinking great and I take two bags...Then when I pay and got my receipt I noticed the discount has not been applied. Its the fourth time it happened to me and I start to feel that I am on purpose ripped off as a customer... every time I come back to the cashier to get refund of the nonexistent discount. This time almost 15 aed!! please check your receipt! It cannot be a bad luck or mistake after 4 times!! Next time I will keep my receipt and lodge a complain to Dubai consumer rights .

Hi I am not the seller, but I know that its a five bedroom villa,in a very nice location (corner). Asking price 3millions negotiable. I will give a look to property finder...posting an ad on dubizzle is not free. Thanks for the suggestions! I am looking to buy in the villa! We have been looking all week and are just waiting on our pre approval (should be done Tuesday) then we need to choose. Which type are you selling? And the places we have looked are dubizzle and property finder but I think the ads get lost in the agents re-posts. Maybe a sign on the villa. Laura

I tried a new salon at U BORA tower, named la Parisienne for a hair cut. The hairdresser is French, from Paris, hence the name. I was very happy with the result and the price ( 170 AED for hair cut/care/blow dry/ after 20% discount as I presented a voucher) www.laparisienne.me HTH Just wondering if anyone has had there hair cut locally - either at Millionaire Spa or Tips and Toes? If so what were they like? Or does anyone have any other recommendations? I'm not after anything fancy, just a trim for long hair with layers. Thanks

hello I have used the Snugride 22 for my baby and was happy with it but my baby when reached 9/10 months hated to seat in his car seat as wanted to be more upright. You cannot adjust the recline. Happily my baby just reached the weight limit so I could change the graco seat for a better one. Just a piece of thought as snugride 35 meant to last longer but I have doubts about this.. Hope that helps.

Hello Gilly61 I am also a Registered Nurse. You need a license in order to work in UAE, depending on where you will work/ or which entity you will work for. There are three licenses for now: DHCC, DHA, MOH 1/Dubai Health Care city has its own license (visit DHCC website) but DHA license holder can get an equivalence or so. 2/To work in the private sector (any clinic/school/company in Dubai) or public sector ( government hospital and clinics) you will need the Dubai Health Authority license. Visit the website www.dha.gov.ae click on their licensing online services 3/Some hospitals depend from Ministry of Health and issue their own license but I dont know about the process. I know about DHA so I will tell you: you will have to create an account on DHA licensing services in order to get registered in UAE.Fill the forms and provide the documents they ask for. Get ready to pay at different stages hundreds of dirhams ( 210 aed,725 aed) During your licensing process , the equivalence of your UK degree and experience will be checked. You will also have to go through a test, done by Prometric, its computer based. They have a website just google it.(costs 624 aed) Once you will pass and succeed this test you will be given an eligibility letter and then you can officially proceed to the last stage of licensing, find an employer and you will be registered in UAE after few more steps. Regarding the experience of working as a Nurse here, I will not comment much but you can find better than 7000 aed a month. Visit the well known private hospitals and ask what you believe you worth nothing else. A good paycheck will be well appreciated once you will feel the gap between working in UK and in UAE. Some points mentioned by hilsbils are true. You can work on part time basis/per die or as a bank nurse as well as I have been told. Wishing you good luck

As a nurse in my home country and in Dubai also I never received a tip but appreciated that patients are grateful when happy with the nurse care. This could be with a simple thank you, smile. Sometimes they offer chocolates at discharge time which they say is for the all team. I find that very lovely but not a necessity. In Dubai there is a culture of tipping which is too much in my opinion. Some of my colleagues in Dubai used to receive gold from local patients in the old times, and it looked pretty normal to them...for me that is CRAZY! I use a lot taxi and i find myself tipping less and less as those who expect it are also the less who deserve it. I pay for a service and that is all. Many times I had to ask for my change, as drivers expected it as their due. Money is corrupting people s mind. Back to your topic, show your appreciation with something simple and meaningful if you like at discharge time but do not think tipping is a MUST otherwise it is expected that quality of care will be going down as SOME staff would then make a difference between patients.

hello, I have the Graco Stylus and I am globally happy with it. the pros: Its affordable, sturdy, has big basket, snack tray, you can choose wether 3 or 5 safety points for the harness. The cons: you cant remove the seat to wash it, my baby is sweating with this fabric, size of canopy is limited, the lock at the safety belt looks easy to open once baby gets older and I was afraid my baby would manage to open it. Regarding the car seat, the first months my baby used to have his head flipping forward due to the inclination of the seat itself so I thought a capsule (maxi cosi or so) would have been more confortable. Once he reached four months or so I didnt notice anymore this problem. I used the travel system the first year with the car seat but now not so much as I got a lightweight umbrella stroller which is more practical to use in bus and metro. I would advise you to look for the lightweight version of graco travel system if you plan to use it until baby is 2/3 years old. I think of the Graco Mirage Plus version. Good luck and happy shopping

Hello I think its nice to have a capsule with a snap and go or so to begin the first months, specially you dont like to move baby while he is asleep from carseat to stroller.I think Chicco and Graco have this kind of products. This system with the stroller frame is light, easy to put in/out of the car, and once your baby outgrows the car seat it takes no space to store. This coupled with a sling/wrap or baby carrier is the best...then later any lightweight stroller for your convenience is suitable. I had a Graco car seat and pram which I mainly used first 9 months together then once I used the pram alone II noticed it became heavy with baby growing and little bit difficult to push. I got a lightweight umbrella stroller now and happy with it (maclaren XT) Hope that helps Papaye
