When Im interviewing, I want the person to come across as confident and informed. When I ask a question, I have no issue with the interviewee taking a couple of seconds to think about their response - it makes me feel that they are actually seriously considering the question rather than just blabbing the first thing they can think of (which usually is something they later regret!). And if you dont quite understand the question, dont be shy to ask if they could expound on it a bit, so your answer will be in line with the question. If Im being interviewed, I usually also ask for some water - it gives you something to do at the very beginning, and also it really does help to calm you a little at the start. And finally, make sure that, without boasting, you put over all your skills and achievements. If you dont actively put it out there, they wont know your capabilities. Honestly, when Im going through CV's, very seldom will I actually read the full detail - its more of a skim, so its up to you to sell yourself to me. A great way to do this is to start with: "If you dont mind, let me talk you through my CV, and raise the particular high points in my career that I think are what you are looking for in the successful candidate..."

Hi PC and Twirl :) @Twirl - it just got a bit personal - there were a few trolls around who would take whatever you posted and twist it around, until eventually it just didnt seem worth it.... Its been a while though since then so hopefully it got ironed out! I have been on the odd once or twice to ask something or when a friend has advised someone was asking about cakes, but other than that its been quiet :D How are you?

LOL, about to start the build for the one in Mercato - will be open probably about mid January. There is one in Bloomingdales in Dubai Mall and also another one (a standalone store) in Dubai Mall also near to Galleries Lafayette - think its on the first floor. Next door to Starbucks...

It is crazy though - in one year similar property to ours has gone up by nearly 60K. We keep our fingers crossed that the landlord forgets to give us an eviction notice or the notice to increase the rent...

I have been going to Wael at The Edge in Wafi for a while now - great with colour and cut. He was the one who recently cut my looong hair (nearly to my butt) to short and I love it. Note it was me though that wanted the cut - he was very disbelieving! It was nice not to go to a hairdresser who automatically wanted to butcher, as they seem to be obsessed with here!

We are sitting here trying to remember a song from about 1998. Its a dance song and was massive. The music video for it has a young guy with blonde dreads and big headphones walking down the street listening to the song. WHAT IS IT?!?! Put me out my misery please!!!!

Thanks Outspan - hoping there will be someone else that says there is one in one of the malls as Im not usually out JLT side, but its definitely back up option thanks!!!

Hi All We are busy recruiting a Portuguese guy for work and as he will be new moving out here thought I would see if there are any Portuguese people that I can put him in touch with? Also, for the first couple of months I guess he will be in limbo whilst deciding where exactly he wants to stay etc, so I thought I would ask if anyone knows of someone renting a room in a shared house for him for a couple of months (think he would like to keep his costs down to save for furniture etc until he can find a flat and afford to kit it out). I would normally help out but Im in a 1 bed flat myself!!! Thanks in advance ladies - am sure someone out there can help!!!

Just had a look at the pic of izzy - if you have the rest of the body done, then the head should be ok. Make the head out of a solid piece of flesh colour fondant rolled into head shaped ball. Make the bandanna out of a pink triangle and stick onto the head. Take a very small piece of same colour and roll into a small ball, add on as nose by sticking on then "wiping" the top of the circle upwards and onto the head ball to create a bit of a bridge for the nose, use a toothpick to make the nostrils. Use a piping nozzle to create a half-circle pressed onto the head to make a smiley face. For the eyes, make a small pearshaped ball then push onto the head to flatten out. Paint on the eyes with either the colouring or edible pens. For the ears, take two small pieces of flesh colour fondant (make both balls at the same time so they will be the same size), roll into a small oval-shaped ball and use the other end of a paintbrush to make a dent in the middle. Stick to the side of the head. Earrings just make a thin yellow line of fondant and stick on. Draw on the eyebrows with colouring or edible pens. Make hair out of long shaped brown cones, use a little blob of pink stuck on the wide end of the cone then stick on to the head. Couple of thin strands at the top of the head. Little bit of lustre dust pink on the cheeks et voila... Izzy! Well, thats the way I would do it anyway :D

Hi All - I have to do update to my household insurance policy when Im back in UK soon. DH pointed out that none of my jewellery is listed on the insurance - I have the receipts for the rest of my jewellery, but for my 21 birthday my folks gave me a tanzanite, and Im really not sure what to value it at. It is a genuine AAA rated VVS inclusion VB5 colour rating, round set 2.85ct. Am hoping Aline or similar is out there and can put a figure on it for me :) TIA i knew the msg was going for me ;) give me little time i reply you ;) :D :D :D Youre a star thanks! edited by wikkid on 03/09/2012

another thing to do is to take it to the gold and diamond park and they will give you a price on it.... Thanks - only thing I dont want is to get a price they want to pay for it, not the actual price and then end up under-insuring... :). But will def keep in mind as plan B thanks!

What about a nice set of wineglasses from somewhere like crate and barrel (assuming of course that they are non-muslim, otherwise maybe a set of drinking glasses). I did this for someone recently - C&B wrapped it up really nicely and it wasnt a huge amount of money either. At least with glasses, its something everyone uses (and has to replace regularly due to breakage) - and nobody can read too much into :)

Ahhhhh, good luck! I hate making people models for this exact reason. Unfortunately with people, you have to get the proportions right otherwise it just doesnt work, whereas say if you were making a dog, you could fool about with the rpoportions and still get away with it. Back in Muscat I actually have a people mould that I use as a starting point so I get the basic proportions right. Maybe someone on here has one of the moulds you could borrow?

We stayed at the Serene Hill Resort and loved it. Although it wasnt on the beach, we preferred it because it was up a little bit on the hillside so had really nice views and breeze etc. All rooms were ac etc, and the staff were lovely. We had breakfast there each day, but spent the rest of the day out and about on scooters anyway :)

Did a cake a short while ago and the person who ordered it did so for a friend. She got a really nice box for the cake from I think it was the beach road mall (Jumeirah) - cant remember the exact name of the mall but sure some lady on here can help. The box wasnt actually for cakes, it was a hat box, in case youre wondering why Im waffling on about cake boxes when you need a hat box!!!

Aramex would do it fast Thanks CA - last time I left my phone (I know, I know!!! Should be better at remembering by now!) and DH sent it by Aramex, it took 3 days. Was hoping a kind soul would take pity on me as I could really do with it not taking that long!!! 3 days?? i get consignments from qatar in less than 24 hours with DHL. Give them a try. Last time they promised to deliver in 24 hours - DH sent it on Sunday morning, it arrived on Tuesday evening and I went back to Oman on Wednesday evening - very frustrating. Will try DHL but hoping for someone who will take pity on me that DH can meet at the airport in Mct, and I can meet at the airport in Dxb :) Thanks for the info though - backup plan! edited by wikkid on 02/09/2012

Yes - and have you measured the temperature of your tap water? My "cold" tap water is 60 degrees centigrade according to my candy thermometer at midday. LOL. So that would be the next quote... "My cold water is hotter than my hot water"... or "I turn off my boiler so that I have cold water" :D

Sorry - been a way a while... I didnt say the army had told my DB to do this, my DB is CONTRACTED to them, and the head of his section (contractor), had told the team this. Its worth noting that the Head sent his family home the next day (back to SA) and put in his notice as well... DB phoned me to tell me this a while ago - some months back. Interestingly enough, he told me about the aircraft carriers and the mobilisation of the battalions from various countries as well, which has all since come to pass. Yes, its all tied in with the oil embargo... the fact that Iran relies on a single source export for its forex which from July will now be under embargo, coupled with the freezing of their assets in the world bank, well... no money = desperate people... wider unrest in the region also doesnt help, and there are definitely states out here that are, shall we say, not fans of the western powers. " You think people fighting for the right to govern themselves are terrorist gangs??? " Just as a side note also, Im Zimbabwean. I pose the question to you... Mugabe, supposedly fighting for freedom from "white oppressionist rule", massacred at least 20,000 Matabele and tens of thousands of others were tortured in camps where 2-3000 people could be detained for torture and interrogation at any one time. None of these Matabele were white. They just happened to be from a different tribe to him. Terrorist or freedom fighter?

Have to say that DH knows full well "The Line That Does Not Get Crossed. Ever. Never. Ever." And kissing someone else is on the far side of that line. So far on the other side of the line that you cant even see the line.... And since the door swings both ways, I'd make d*mn sure that I was not ever in a situation to see the door swing the other way... To be honest, Ive been leglessly drunk [shock, horror! Me? Never!'>, and even then, I still know where that line is. Do people really really get that drunk? How?!? What do you drink?!? I agree with other posters when they say that the problem seems to be more about what is at home (or not), and less about the fact that you kissed someone else. Just curious, was your marriage an arranged marriage?I think it can be hard to go looking for that feeling in a relationship if it never existed in the first place, and it seems as though that is what you are craving... I only ask as the whole "butterfly feeling thing" is not premeditated and therefore can only assume that it was an arranged marriage, otherwise why did you marry the man if he makes you feel more like his sister than his wife? Just my 5 cents, and please for those ladies who have come from an arranged marriage, I do not intend any disrespect - Im merely highlighting that some people have different expectations of what they expect to get out of their marriage. I know many people who have wonderful and loving marriages that were arranged, and quite frankly sometimes Im envious as they often seem much happier than me! They didnt however go into it expecting to have the "butterfly feeling".

You mean people actually do adjust to the heat?!?! Ive been here 7 years... LOL, I love warmer weather and hate the cold, and there are days that I think Ive totally got it down pat, then something happens to make me realise that this heat here really is something else... Was in Muscat yesterday, and the temperature was 48 degrees - I actually managed to burn my arm on the door of the car. And June isnt the hottest month...! I guess its more about being prepared than anything else. Remember to take water with you (especially when Ramadan is here as its very easy to not drink enough during that month). Rather do your running around before midday if you can, park your car in shady areas, leave the window a little bit open etc). And when all else fails, go to Baskin and Robbins and tell yourself its for health reasons!
