We have lived in the Springs for a few months now and absolutely love it. As we intend to stay a few more years, we are considering buying a villa. I just wondered if anybody else on here had done the same, and could give us some advice? I am particularly keen to know how much the Service Charges are and if you find it much more expensive to buy than rent. Thanks. Hi LaLaLayla, Our 3E villa in the Springs is currently on the market for sale if you are interested let me know via forum and will share more info with you (e-mail etc). Cheers

I'm sorry to hear that but that's a bit of a sweeping statement. You will always get good and bad. I do trust my maid 100% but I never let my guard down, there is a difference. Just be alert. I could never leave my children with someone I do not trust. I agree, I have a maid and trust her, however she knows that im constantly checking things and I have my eye on her. I did the same, always check and monitor but when my son started going to nursery and while I'm out she had the whole house to herself... she was hired to do cleaning and only cleaning as I believe maids are not qualified nannies. I'm glad she is gone now and my wedding band is back (among other things)... edited by AusJor on 05/12/2012

Hi Babylons, I beileve all Breast ca cases diagnsed in Jordan are referred to the King Hussien Cancer Centre. The website is informative and has a drop down menu with names of specialist and area of interest. Medicine is very advanced in Jordan hence my suggestion would be to for your friend to make an appointment to see a specialist of her choice at the KHCC. http://www.khcc.jo/Physicians.aspx Does your friend have any support in Jordan? Will keep her in my prayers edited by AusJor on 06/11/2012

AusJor - you advise getting an entry stamp put onto a separate piece of paper. If the stamp is on the passport does this cause a problem getting back into UAE? Some friends mentioned this yesterday. Thank you. Hello April Flower. Yes. You may request Israeli immigration not stamp your passport. When you arrive at the immigration hall at the Israeli terminal ask the immigration officer for form 17L BEFORE handing over your passport. This form is completed and handed it over to the immigration officer with your passport and clearly tell them that you do not want your passport stamped. They will stamp the form instead of your passport. Be sure to keep this form with you, as it is your proof of entry to the country and to show at Israeli checkpoints if asked. edited by AusJor on 04/11/2012

I have just checked with a contact. Apparently there are 2 border crossings but the one to use for foreign passport holders is in an area called (Al Agwar Al-Shamaliah) in Irbid this bridge is called Sheik Hussien Bridge (crossing). Al Momayaz taxi service (within lands of Jordan) can take you to the border crossing for JD 45 (approx AED 210). From Jordan crossing you need another taxi (VERY SHORT DISTNACE) to get to the other check point so the fee for the other taxi is included as it will be negotiated by your Momayaz taxi driver. Once all formalities/ passport check completed there is a bus service called Jett to take you to Jerusalem. I would ask for the checkpoint stamps to be done on a seperate piece of paper. I have a number for a driver of the Momayaz taxi that is college educated and speaks good English if you are interested. The driver is the best person to check whether the crossing is open on the day you wish to travel on as sometimes authorities temporarily stops the flow from ech side. Safe travels! edited by AusJor on 02/11/2012

Hello Ladies heading to Jordan in few weeks and would also like to visit Jerusalem when staying at the Dead Sea. How to go there ? Is't safe ? Any tips ? TIA :) Hello there! It is a very safe country but best to keep a low profile. People are friendly and most people speak English. I believe there is a taxi service called almomyaz to get you to the border for less than JD40 Are you going with a group? I'm actually heading there mid Nov but will be staying in the capital.

Hi Jenc123, I presume this lady will be under your sponsorship, since she is a live-out perhaps a gentle but firm reminder that part time work is not allowed and illegal (explain consequences, hefty fees, deportation etc) Also, confidentiality and privacy of the house and family members. i.e family matters, business, workrelated conversations, I don't allow pictures of my young ones taken as I noticed that some nannies do like to share photos of the children they look after on facebook etc. Good luck! edited by AusJor on 30/10/2012

Thanks for sharing flydriver11. We are in the Springs and I see quite a few maids (nannies) caring for children as young as one continuously talking on the phone even playing cards. They obviously can't wait to go to the lawn areas to socialize, use their mobile phone let alone flirting with other non-resident gardeners/handymen!!!

That's unbelievable AusJor, 10hour working day for 4000 (presume that IS per month). Did you laugh in his face?? After looking for a part or full time position over the last 10weeks and applying for at least 10 on the EW job page where none had the courtesy to acknowlege my application, I am now onto a 2nd interview from a job advertised on line which I found totally by chance. Now my predicament is: How much is a reasonable wage! I'm happy to work for nothing as the job is fun and exciting (events organiser) and the hours are totally flexible but I don't want to sell myself cheap. Thanks for any advice. Fee It is PER MONTH! Ha ha to be honest I kept calm but you should have seen the look on his face when he asked what my min. salary expectation was!!! edited by AusJor on 29/10/2012

Hi Atlanticres1 I had zero luck finding those so had to invent something similar to use when we are out and about. I basiclly bought the disposable table covers from Co-op (I'm sure you will find them in all supermarkets). They are also called Sufra in arabic on the packaging. It is a roll of 50 perforated sheets (100x120cm) and folded so what I do is cut one sheet per use (in the middle), make half a circle and unfold (becomes a full circle) when I need to use and put my toddler on the seat. It covers all the toilet seat becuase of the size of the sheet which gives me even extra peace of mind that my LOs don't touch any part of the public toilet seat. To add, those sheets are OXO-Biodegradable and from memory the roll price is just below AED 10. edited by AusJor on 26/10/2012

Hi Crouchey. Apologies if this is a similar advise that somebody has already posted as I havent had the chance to read all post to your question. I had the same issue early Dec last year except we processed half of the visa (about 2,000) plus typing fees etc I sat with her and explaied, showed her all the receipts etc and she agreed to pay back all the money so her mother in the Philipines sent the amount via western union. Then we transferred sponsorship on to a new family (of her choice) as she has done the interview on her day off (how cheeky) I feel for you. Good luck with it and keeps your eyes and ears open while she is at your house and around kids if you have any.

Hi Ladies, I would like to post some presents to family in Western Australia. I just looked up some price/quote info online from the DHL website and almost fainted. So it would be great if you could suggest the best option for me to get the gifts there - what service do you regularly use? Does it work out a lot cheaper using Emirates Post services? And if so, does anyone know roughly how long they would then take to arrive at their destination? As a side note: I would like to be able to track the parcels from here to there. Thanks for any tips you can share. Sarah. Hi Sarah Joy Happy to help! My husband is going to be in VIC early next week and we can take your parcel and post it to WA via AUSPOST (so long you pay for local charges in Aust). Do get in touch via forum if you still need help. Cheers edited by AusJor on 09/10/2012 Hi AusJor, That is so extremely kind and generous of you! I will have a look into the skynet prices first before taking you up on the offer. Thank you :) :) :) No worries! Suitcase is not very full so weight is not a problem for him. If you're still hanging around the nursery almost 2 weeks later and the teacher has not discussed any plan to ease the process, do you not feel assertive enough to approach the teacher and ask yourself? I know you probably shouldn't have to, but clearly the teacher is not bothering to give it much thought... Thanks Ladies! Shelley. I did go and talk about next step. She said until she is comfortable enough with the teaching staff she would like me to stay IN the class with his. Although I did leave one time for less than an hour and I got a call from the school to tell me my DD is upset and I need to come back!!! What is really concerning me is that this school is one of the most desired/ dearest with very long waiting lists!! edited by AusJor on 02/10/2012 edited by AusJor on 02/10/2012
