I have no experience with it but what I understood is that usually labour disputes are filed at the Ministry of Labour. What did your attorney advice you? hey there, as I was working in JAFZA it directly has to go to Dubai Court.

The labour law applies throughout Dubai, a free zone is the same, yes, you are entitled to be paid 3 months compensation if you are terminated with immediate effect, and have not been given the correct warnings. thanks sophie. they have given 3 months notice period as in the contract. however, people are telling that I can ask for compensation!?

Hi lovedubai Without a garden ours was a maximum of 1500 and that was leaving one a/c on all day for the pets. During the winter months is went down to 500 and that included the housing fee. wow, this is reasonable, seems totally okay. otherwise you are happy to live there? or are you facing any major issues there?

I am going to Khasab tomorrow. My plan is going to RAK/Northern Emirates in the morning, then continue to Khasab where we booked a room in the Golden Tulip Khasab. In the morning the next day we will go on a boat trip until 4pm and then going back to Dubai. Do I have to go back to Dubai over RAK again or can I drive back crossing the mountains and Dibba? Is it worth and how much time would it take? thanks!

Muscat is definitely worth it, in my opinion. It's a really fantastic place, beautiful and would be my #1 recommendation. Liwa is OK, I've only been once, personally I don't know that I'd consider taking visitors there. The Qasr Al Sarab resort is nice...but I wasn't really wow'd. A couple other options I'd recommend are Fujairah (take visitors there a lot and everyone seems to enjoy it) or the Desert Island resort on Sir Bani Yas island is another great option, I think. It's got an animal reserve and is a pretty unique place for the region, IMO. what do you think, 2 or 3 days in Muscat. Have only been once and its long time ago, so cannot remember very well. what are the top sightseeing places there and can go go into the mountains near?

I took my dad to Khasab and he loved it. Our family stayed one night at the Golden Tulip, enjoyed the mountains and took in a dolphin cruise. Its not luxurious but you get to drive through more traditional places and the mountains are beautiful. is it worth to go there without a 4x4?

Hi lovedubai, My friend's been working there for a few year and likes it very much, what kind of position are you looking at? For remuneration it depends on your work experience and such so Im afraid I cant help you there. Good luck though :) xx thanks. I know that it is depending on your experience and position. however, just wanted to know if you can slightly ask for more as it is a big company ;-)

Surprisingly enough there are 39 B&B's in Dubai according to Tripadvisor. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g295424-c2-Dubai_Emirate_of_Dubai-Hotels.html However on closer inspection they are all low budget hotels except one villa so I'm guessing you need to be an owner of a property to start a B&B. yes, most of them are low budget hotels. I have googled the other ones and it seems that only Villa 47 is still in operation.

My problem is that we will not separate on good terms, so my company will not do me any favour. However, getting a cheque will maybe help that the bank does not know immediately. Otherwise I should go to the bank and ask them straight away??? I think even without residence visa I can open a saving account, correct?

thanks everyone. I have been told that my final settlement will be paid in a form of a cheque, so the bank will most probably not realize that I am done with my company. For my rental I have given predated cheques and there will be enough fund on my account. The amount will still be deducted automatically, no? If they freeze the account or not?

It sounds wrong to me, but like I said, many companies over here get away with simply doing whatever they want to do, no matter how immoral it may seem. How can your weekend or public holidays possibly be classed as working days? It's insane. This is exactly what I also do not understand. If your leave is regulated in calendar days, it is clear that in case I would take leave for 2 weeks the weekend in the middle is counted as leave days as well. But in case e.g. you take off Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday with no weekend/public holiday in the middle then this is three days annual leave.

That's the rule I was talking about. It's absolutely ridiculous, but obviously isn't the case in the OP's situation. Just ask your HR how they've come up with 5 days and take it from there. the answer from my HR department (which is not really a HR department...) is telling me the story with prefix und suffix, so that I have to take leave also for the weekend/public holiday before or after my leave days!?!?!?!

lovedubai I mean this in the nicest way and I'm not saying your company is right to be so strict with deductions but I would take it as a bit of a wake up call - lateness and sickness so often is not acceptable. 1hr is enough leeway to account for bad traffic / oversleeping etc - we have a guy at work whose excuse for coming in 3hrs (yes 3hrs!) late is that he lives in Sharjah! If they don't pay on time, I would also def start looking for another job, but be prepared it is SLIM pickings out there. What line of work are you in? i am in fmcg, sales and marketing

I recently left a company within JAFZA and was the HR there so here goes the rules.... JAFZA give 15 days annual sick leave which can be taken provided you provide a doctors certificate. The15 days are paid sick leave which include Basic, Housing, Travel, etc etc. If your company is not following this, please contact local authorities. Please check article Three, Point 3 where it clearly states the above. The doctors direction is basically a doc's certificate, Ive checked that with JAFZA in the past. Your company is in violation and BTW this copy is taken from the JAFZA site where all admin forms are put up... http://www.jafza.ae/media-files/2012/06/06/20120606_04-20120606-Employment-Contract-New.pdf and when they deduct it they calculate also on the gross salary not on the basic?

hey everyone, how does it work with sick leave? I am working in JAFZA and my company has deducted all my sick days (11 single days) from my salary. Do you need a docotor's certificate for 1 day sick leave???!!! And on what base they calculate the deduction, only on basic salary or on gross salary (means including housing allowance, car allowance, medical etc.)? Thanks for quick replies! You need a certificate from the first day sickleave as previously mentioned. Sorry to ask but have you been 11 times one day sick as this is how it sounds ... and it seems to be a lot ... 11 times one day, but they also count 1 full day when you are coming 1 hour late in the office! As the salaries are paid much too late, we are also sometimes late in the office :-) That's strickt rules for 1 hour deduction of a full day ... good luck with this. Legally they are absolutely allowed to deduct. Don't overdo the sick days, I have seen people being fired for "bad attendance". @Louise ... same thought I had... but first she might need a new job which eventually could take a bit. edited by Nyranee on 06/12/2012 thanks. yes, best would be a new job. so if anyone knows anything :-)

In that case I stand corrected - you are not on probation but that is still a lot of time off in 6 months hence why they are deducting probably. You normally have to be off for 3 days in a row before a Drs note is requested. I would speak to your HR department about this - did you have previous deductions for sick days? Have they taken the deduction of your daily rate as your basic salary or your full compensation? they have the deduction from as my full compensation Hello I have just spoken with a friend who is a Senior HR bod at the FZ You have to have a sick note from day 1, if you do not provide this they can deduct the money as it is classed as loss of pay No more than 15 days in 1 year and no more than 7 days in 6 months They should only deduct on your basic only thanks a lot!!! that helped me very much :-)

And on what base they calculate the deduction, only on basic salary or on gross salary (means including housing allowance, car allowance, medical etc.)? Thanks for quick replies! Outside of the FZ then it is 2 days Speak the JAFZA authorities they will be able to tell you Can your HR department not show you the JAFZA labor laws? How many sick days have you had in 1 year as i think there is a limit to what you can have? Sorry i couldnt be much help i am familar with outside FZ's only it is 15 days with full renumeration. but the question is if I need a certificate? When starting my period or having wrong food I do not run to the doctor, I better get some rest, no? Oh dear! Yes dear, you are expected to attend work when you start your period - we are grown women and can take Panadol for period pain. You cannot seriously take time off work for this every month? I believe with Tecom they start deducting once you have had 15 days sick leave in a year, it may be less with JAFZA. It is like you were on probation for the first 6 months (or you may still be on extended probation) hence they have taken it out of your salary. Still shocks me how many people on probation take sick leave, request holidays and generally don't see it as the time when they should most prove themselves. OP - sick leave IMO is there for if you are literally dying, not every month when you get your period! Oh dear! It was not always the period. And some women do have problems with that. Seems you are lucky and you do not know that problem. And no, I am not in the probation period.
