I delivered in Al Zahra hospital, everything was coverd by insurance. Didn't take any packages. During the pregnancy I had a lot more check ups, a lot more scans, a lot more laboratory tests.... than what was offered in the package. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days, had normal delivery and everything was covered by insurance. Thanks a lot Hope1more for taking time to share your delivery experience w/ Al Zahra ;)

Hi! Were you able to use your Insurance Maternity Benefits in getting Antenatal or Delivery Packages in hospitals? My Insurance said as long as within networks, I can. But I called 2 hospitals here and was able also to talk 2 OB's I knew, they said no. If I have insurance, no need to get packages. It is only for self-paying. Your experience or knowledge on this will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance ;)

Just go to the teacher and tell her what you heard from your daughter. It's a very normal common situation. Once my youngest then age 6 kept complaining about someone hitting him at school; so i went to the school feeling very defensive, how dare anyone hit my DS; got to the school and the "bully" was about half my son's height, was all meek and mild and turned out my own son was strongly using his imagination. Not saying yours is the same, but I am saying things are not always exactly as are darling kids spell out. Any anyhow any of these situations can be discussed at school. Thanks ummmuhammad123! Yeah, that's what I am thinking. I don't want to be defensive when I'll confront the teacher because DD sometimes has tendency to exaggerate things. At the same time, I don't want to eliminate also the fact that there are teachers who will deny these kind of incidents that it happened under their watch(unless there's visible evidence).

DD came home from school saying " Mom, the boy punched me hard many times in the heart(she's referring to chest)". I tried to ask her what happened, she's just saying "boy is punching everyone. He don't like us. He don't like to love." I'm just so upset. She's just 4yrs old. How will I discuss it to the teacher? Sorry I am new to this kind of situation. I would greatly appreciate any thought. Thanks in advance!

I remember someone I know who was on her husband visa and had to change to work visa, she works in DIFC and was told it's mandatory there. If you don't have to change to employer visa I would stay in husbands visa, unless the benefits of employers visa are better. But then you need to consider whether your husband's company will sponsor you again if you loose your job[/b'>. Not sure what the rules are. Thanks a lot Marroosh! Will surely take note of this ;) You can be on Husbands visa at DIFC now, I work with ladies who are. It changed back a while back. Thanks for this info Sarah ;)

It could also depend on the company. I had no choice, but to switch to the company visa Hi GE! Can u share the reason why u were forced to transfer ur visa? Correct me pls if my understanding is wrong that as much as possible, ur soon to be employer will encourage u to have ur husband's visa retained for them to unload the responsibility of giving u these benefits? I am also thinking the same way w/ my husband's employer.. once they'll know that I am working, they will cut my benefits and give the burden to my new employer? Sorry for many questions :( I'm working in DIFC now, so no choice, but to be honest I'm better off on their sponsorship as DH company doesn't cover flights home. A previous company I worked for would only employ me on DH sponsorship though. It's swings and roundabouts really, so if I was you I would be upfront straight away when you find a job and if you've got the choice and can stay under your DH sponsorship I would, unless the new benefits really out weigh the ones you have already. Also as Maroosh says it may be beneficial in the long run if you loose your job. I certainly wouldn't have wanted to start doing visa runs when I was made redundant. Thanks GE for sharing ur experience and thoughts about my plan ;)

It could also depend on the company. I had no choice, but to switch to the company visa Also I think it depends in which sector. If BOTH companies are government, only one set of benefits is given. Certainly that's the issue my parents had. Yeah, I heard this info also FD. Thanks :)

Yes you would. Why do you need to transfer onto another companies visa? You can work and stay on your husbands visa, all he has to do is give you an NOC and they apply for your labour card. If you go on the sponsorship of a company, they then provide you with a ticket and health insurance instead. Hi FD! Thanks for the prompt reply! Is my understanding correct that the choice is MINE whether to transfer the sponsorship to employer or retain it under my husband? (After comparing which party can give better benefits?)

Hi ladies, Has anyone used 'O-Desk'? If so, would love to hear your thoughts. I am looking for work (but have a little one at home) so thought this might be a good option....? Carrie. Hi Carrie! I'm working here not quite long. I received payments but haven't withdrawn it yet coz of minimum earning requirement for withdrawal. A relative of mine who works here religiously is earning well(payments are being transferred to your registered account). It's free btw ;)

OP, I think you have to convince ur DH to learn how to say NO. You really cannot stop other people to ask financial favors from you.. You cannot control them. But you both can manage how you respond to those requests. Since there is a tendency that you will be more lenient towards ur respective sides, maybe u can both agree on "if it involves his side, you will be the one to weigh the situation and decide.. then vice versa". Hope things will get better soon!

I believe so, when I moved here 6 years ago HSBC gave me about 3 and started charging me for all of them even though never used, so I call them up - got them cancelled and got the charge back!! I will never pay for a cc Glad to know u got the charge back Polly :) Had one before, never activated, never used but charged me the annual fee. I contested but led me nowhere. Now, I received an Annual Fee charge for an expired card :( edited by eunice_dxb on 04/06/2014 edited by eunice_dxb on 04/06/2014

I asked the broker we use this same question last week and apparently if you have just passed your test here then you can't hire a car for 12 months. If you have a valid licence from your home country but had to take the test here to qualify for a UAE licence then I think you might be able to hire a car. Thanks Cornish! DH has valid driving license from home country unfortunately our country is not on the list where transfer is allowed. I guess we just have to rely on all the reviews from car experts and owners :)

@Beebers: It's for my DH. He took 40class and luckily he passed it right the first time in RTA :) Now he's doing test drive of the cars he wanted to buy but not satisfied with just a round turn at the showrooms block. So he is planning to go to car rental, maybe 1 day rent. You're right Suzy, just checked some car rentals in the web, and it has to be 1-year old. Though I understand also why :) Thank you ladies!

I think your best bet would be to keep calling the driving school head office whenever you have a problem and try getting them to resolve it. That's what we did. Even when the instructor told us they wouldn't be able to help, they more often than not were. Oh and if you do find someone helpful on the other end, remember the name as you might be needing their help again. BOL! I'll note this! This is what we haven't done yet. Usually DH would call the instructor. Sometimes the branch where he enrolled at. Thanks :)

Thanks ladies for sharing! "It's normal" doesn't mean "It's right", right? :-) The 2nd time it happened, we called the driving school then they assigned a new instructor for DH. Unfortunately, after 2classes, the new instructor did the same :(

... to have an on-off class? DH enrolled for 40-classes but after he failed on his recent assessment, he is having an on-off class now.. 1-week or sometimes 2-weeks interval. It happened 4times already. The instructor will just say "You're schedule today is cancelled because I am busy. I will call you again when is your next class!" Any thought about this? TIA:)

Thanks ladies! Really appreciate what you've shared:-) I am not comfortable in getting a loan so we are planning to buy it in cash. But I kept on hearing/reading comments from people that it's not a wise choice to take. I'm thinking I am missing some points here. We are only interested in acquiring a compact car for my dh's daily use from home to work(within Dubai only). Rent to own is new to me, I certainly will search more of that Di@DXB:-) Thanks again all:-)

Similar experience I had recently but the guy identified himself as DU rep. Another call, saying he's from Emirates NBD(where I have an account with). He said, as I'm one of their clients, he wants me to be informed with their latest promo, but before saying the details I first need to give him my personal/acct info for identification. And I said "WHAT??!! Are you kidding? It's just a promo, YOUR promo! Why will you give me burden to prove my identity? Besides, you said you are from E-NBD, I guess you've seen my records!" I wonder a bit how that man knew I have an account w/ the said bank.

yeah, Civic for me also looks better than Corolla. Thanks Elmpark;) Loved loved loved my Civic. Had a 2009 model and had absolutely no problems with it, such a reliable car, and looks great too. When we leave the UAE and go back home I will definitely be getting a civic again.

Thanks much Lanarkwitch! Btw, may I know what model year of Civic you think is best? Civic, I've driven both and had about 10 different corollas as hire cars over the last while, once you've had the Honda you won't want to go back to Toyota, that said they are both fairly similar, but the civic is a better road handler, and feels better to drive.

Thanks ladies:) What happened to me was I went to typing to have my E-ID done then I attached the application form to my Residence Visa documents. After I finished with DNRD, I received an SMS from Emirates ID Authority saying my application for renewal is incomplete and they are giving me 5-business working days to proceed to typing center to have my New Residence Visa Sticker scanned or else my application will be cancelled. I called E-ID authority to inform them that my New Visa is currently on process. The Customer Service said he will put "on hold" on my E-ID renewal application. Once I received my New Residence Visa sticker, I need to visit typing center to have it scanned.

Its nice to have phillipino's reply and tell us what the phillipines are really like too often - a few bad experiences with oppurtunitistic / just plain dumb ppl - make ppl assume all philipinos are the same. Their are allot of smart and intelligent phllipino's with good values in the UAE - and it is sad that they are discriminated against simply because more people from their country work as maids Every race has its own "black sheep". And I stand firmly, no matter what your origin is/where you came from/what you've been going through in life, you still have no right to deceive/mistreat/hurt/abuse anyone. Though standards differ from one country to another, yet the basic concept of good/evil is almost the same. Peace:)

I understand the Phillipines has an exellent health care system. The gals usually wait for their yearly trip home to do their medicals as health care is free for the citizens.. Its not free but it is very cheap. Defnitely not the thousands that the maids in Dubai are asking. Also the medical standards and education is not up to par with western standards. They only go to school for 10 years and graduate when they are 16. To become a medical doctor you only study 4 years (where as in western countries it takes about 7 years),so they can be 'medical doctors' when they turn just 20 years old. I'm sorry to correct you with this! Education in Philippines comprises the following: 1yr- kindergarten 6yrs- primary education 4yrs- junior high school 2yrs- senior high school 4-5yrs- college 4 yrs- additional for MD

In case like this, I personally appreciate employer who makes effort to verify the real story, instead of straightly saying "NO". It simply means, he/she cares for the maid's welfare. But for me, if it's the first time, I would maybe give 50%(at most) of what she requested. The next times, whether it's true or just an alibi, I preferred to say "NO". Not because I don't want to help but I want to teach the maid's relatives not to "totally" depend to her financially. The maid's salary is just so little and if everyone is asking a part/whole/more than of it, what will happen to the maid herself after her contract? I am also a Filipino and I witnessed how this "sick thing" kills OFW(Overseas Filipino Workers). My last update with our Health Benefits, it's 50% off of the total bills. There are also outpatient medications that can be bought on a discounted price.

Nakheel own the properties they rent out as they built them, they have an organised office and everything is above board as far as the legalities of renting from them is concerned. You will not need to worry about the pitfalls that you can encounter with other real estate agents as they are the developer. So go ahead Thanks much Di@DXB!
