I would cut my losses and throw it. In my experience the condenser driers are awful, take forever to dry stuff and constantly go wrong! I would get a normal drier maybe second hand or a cheap one from say Carrefore. You can always sell it again when you leave. I too like certain things tumble dried, especially towels. We like them soft and fluffy here.

I went there yesterday too and was told it's only closed for 2 days for refurb so should be open tomorrow. There is another one quite close by though, it's in the same street as Galadari driving school a few streets away. If you google the driving school for the street/area you'll find it.

A friend used 'fast maids' and had 2 maids for 2 hours just last week. Her experience wasn't great though as they sent one male with no experience and a somewhat bitter girl who by the sound of it was annoyed at having to do training at the same time as cleaning. If you use them remember this story and ask for 2 experienced ones.....my friend didn't think to, but will next time.

Hi. I very much doubt the agency will facilitate the maid with this. Many years ago we had a similar situation and the agency wanted around 10,000 dhs to cancel her visa, they then were planning to send her back with no ban, as a favour?! In those days banning was the usual thing to do. We were then supposed to bring her back..... So in other words they wanted money for nothing and were making things so awkward we decided not to take her. Maybe things have changed though? Good luck!

That's a thought Fandrew, I'll try to find out the landlord. Don't think the maid could help. Sadly from what I seen she's treated like the dogs too? Poor thing works every day till very late, yes I've seen it. Sometimes she's had to answer the door if madam isn't there, because the man of the house has never addressed the problem even when my dh asked to speak to him. I'd prefer to have the dogs living with us, at least they'd be cared for........ now there's an idea, lol. Thanks ladies x

Fandrew, their answers are often contradictory, silly, unhelpful or belligerent (even rude) unfortunately. We have honestly not gone there guns blazing, really not my style. But to nicely ask them to be considerate. We didn't want to involve authorities, I am upset to consider ever doing that now after what I've learned from mrsb. I suppose I posted here because it's becoming such a nuisance and I feel tired because of other people's behaviour. Thanks for reading and replying though. It's feels good o rant a little. X

Mrsb, I would hate for that to happen to the dogs. No, they are not western, they are Arabic of some description, not locals, but wouldn't like to guess from where? Something I wasn't going to mention, but will now add. The son who is an older teen actually told my dh, he likes to keep the dogs out to PxxS people off!! So perhaps there is no language barrier, just belligerence? Really don't know why some people have pets, to treat them like this? It's annoying but also a little upsetting to see. Especially when I look at our spoilt bundle of fur sleeping on 'his' sofa! Forgot to add, my dog barks like crazy when disturbed by these other's so it's surround sound barking, sometimes! X

Thanks for replying. Of course we suggested taking the dogs in. As I said they are left out and ignored ALL day and night. I know dogs bark, I have one, but I also know that you have to consider other's and deal with the situation. Seriously who likes to be disturbed on a daily basis, numerous times by barking? Some people it would appear, have them for status rather than pets. You wouldn't keep a family member out all day and night? And that's what having a pet is, isn't it? Unless of course we are talking about guard dogs, which in this case we are not. I would not be complaining if like you, my neighbours were reasonable enough to bring the dogs inside between 8 and 8, I wish...

Hi. I'm also a British qualified nurse with a lot of experience both in the NHS and in a private hospital here (not AHD though). From knowledge there has been quite a high turn over of European nurses at AHD, some of their ex nurses now work with me. I was offered a job there on a couple of occasions and decided it wasn't for me. The salaries for nurses there appear to be quite competitive with most other hospital's in the region, but conditions of work are apparently not that great. Mostly I'm referring to flexibility with your off duty and a few other things that was enough to put me off going, but may seem unfair to repeat as to be honest are based on hearsay. I think that you will find that nursing here is completely different to nursing in the UK. Professional development, autonomy, evidence based practice etc are not common place here. The bonds that you may have had with your colleagues at home will probably not be mirrored here. I hope that I haven't been too negative because there are some advantages of working here (I've worked here for 8 years now!). But I've been lucky as I have a good employer who recognizes the skills I have and I have been allowed to work part time to suit my family. With regard to the 2 year contract that is the norm here in most hospitals as is working 48 hours per week. I'm on my husbands visa though so don't know if that is the reason that I have yearly contracts? I suppose my advice would be to 'shop around' and see what else is available, it's not difficult to get a job here with your qualifications. You could also try to negotiate a little with regards to shifts etc, although I don't know if this would apply to AHD? Be open minded, don't expect it to be like any where else you may have worked but do give working over here a go. I don't think you'll regret it and if you really don't like it you leave, it's not forever. Good luck!

Electrolyte imbalances can be diagnosed with a blood and or urine test. Depending on the electrolyte and what the issue is, ie, too high or too low, treatments would be prescribed accordingly. For example, low potassium levels iv potassium could be given, low sodium iv saline could be given and restricting fluid intake. HTH.

To start the paperwork process you will need her passport, the sponsor's passport (your DH?), tenancy agreement, passport photo's of the maid (2 or 4?), sponsor's salary certificate and money. Go to immigration and start the process.

We sponsored our Filipino maid a few weeks ago with no problems or questions asked. She's 22. She was already in Dubai, albeit for only a few weeks, so maybe the restrictions are for travelling out of the Phillipines? She has lots of older 'relatives' here and so far so good....

We eat around 6pm. If DH is home later he has to warm it in the micro. I really couldn't be bothered to stand and cook all evening to accommodate different coming home times, and the kids are really hungry by then, even with having a snack after school. We all sit there until we're all finished, that dates back from my childhood I think. Mum was very strict with table manners :-)

The overstaying fines are quite high. 200dhs for the first day, then 100dhs everyday there after. This was the case as of a couple of weeks ago. The initial visa you get is valid for about 60 days and isn't the full employment visa. You have to pay your deposit of 2000dhs plus 1000ish for this visa. So if things don't work out you can send her on her way before you do the full visa and get your deposit back, remember to keep your receipt! At least you won't be employing her illegally and it's not as bad as paying the full amount (5000dhs) and potentially losing at lot more money.

Is there a difference? I would have thought, but may be wrong?, that by transferring her visa is the same as starting anew. Her visa has to be cancelled by her previous boss before you can employ her, from what I understand, so you then start the new visa process. It doesn't matter that she has 6 months or so before the existing visa expires, no one benefits from that financially. Her old employer loses 6 months visa money and you pay the usual new visa costs. That's my understanding of it but interested to hear if there is another way.

Umm Ali, great explanation of both procedures. I like your style, I won't give in to these wrinkles either!! If done nicely then it's not even noticeable. I like a little expression, so don't like to be frozen. I don't aim to look like a wanna be 20 year old, just good for my age (well, maybe 5 years younger?). I always have gone back to the doctor twice, for a touch up. All the doctors that I have used have done this. I prefer this to having too much at once, as once there you can't remove it.

Good to hear and as Oopsiedaisy said, you need to nip the niggles in the bud in future ASAP. You're the boss, and if your DH is anything like mine, he'll not want to do the discussions in future. As mine so eloquently says, "It bothers you not me, so now you're bothering me?"....charming! To be fair though I don't have young kids, so moaning to him about things not being cleaned is the same as him moaning to me about football scores.......boring x

Yes, there is no grace period after expiration. The charges a few weeks ago were as follows; 200dhs for the first day of overstay then 100dhs for everyday after that. It could get quite costly so best not leave it for too long if possible.

Dr Maria Acosta in cosmesurge is great. I have used many different doctors for these treatments (I admit I work in the industry but am not biased by one clinic or doctor) but I have found her to be fab. She never over does it, and I've had a few experiences where the 3/6 month 'wearing off' period couldn't come fast enough! Lol! It costs about 1800 depending on amount used. Other good doctors if you want a couple of other good choices? Dr Imran Tahir, Dr Buthaina (little more expensive though). Just be aware of 'cheap deals', it's most often cheap for a reason and one should never compromise when using injectable's especially on the face! X

I love Botox and Fillers and anything else that keeps me looking 'fresh'. I don't go crazy with it, I'm certainly no Bride of Wilderstein. Apart from being cryogenically frozen, yes my DH suggested I look into this as an option, I will continue with my crusade of banishing the wrinkles. I know I'm not bio degradable any more though....

Too long hair (waist length) is never a good look, unless you're Amish. But shoulder blade length with layers looks great, think J Lo and she's over 40. I'm not in my 30's anymore, sigh, but with the great help of Botox, Fillers, IPL, facials, the list is endless, I think I'm getting away with my longish locks.....even if I have to get my grey roots colored every 2 weeks! Must add I'm not blonde or black haired....

Asked dh via the medium of txt as it seems it's yet another long day at the office, and I won't be awake at midnight to answer you. Think he had heart failure (thinking) that I was suggesting we go ourselves? Anyway if his memory serves him well, the banyan tree al wadi was the one we liked the best. The banyan beach resort and spa is the newer of the two which had the outside bath and the villa seemed less luxurious and spacious. Enjoy! X

I've been twice. The first time I liked it, not much to do but I'd never been before so just relaxed and enjoyed. The second time we stayed in a different part, newer, and have to say I was bored and to my dismay the bath was outside, in this particular villa. Whose idea was that? Really didn't appeal to me having a bubble bath in what felt like the open desert....but each to their own.

My eldest is off to uni this year, I'm proud of her but secretly I'm sooo sad, I will miss her. Even though she ignores me most of the time. That's another thread I think? His first wife went on to have 2 kids with her new hubby, people change their minds.... When mine were babies there were days that I thought what the h*** have I done!! Even now that they are teens I have days when I think that they seemed like a good idea at the time,lol...but as for longing for carefree days, no one to please but myself? Polly to be honest I don't they ever fit in when you have you have your life planned out, there always seems to be a reason to put it off. But if it's something you really want, at 35, maybe you should do it sooner rather than later? There are good times and bad times being a mum, but I think for most of us it's something that we never regret doing. I certainly couldn't imagine a life without mine. My friend is 37 and now wants a baby and is struggling to conceive. Not saying that this will be you (I hope not) but we are not fertile forever.
