I don't really know why I'm posting this...

I want to add the difference in the cost of gas. It is much cheaper here in Doha. Let's say you pay 60QR for a full tank here ,you'll be paying double there.

I was born in the U.A.E and lived there for 21 years before getting married and moving to Doha. If you want to compare rent and life expenses it's more like Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai. Doha is definitely more conservative when it comes to what expats wear but recently a friend's friend in Dubai got a fine for wearing a short sleeveless dress to the mall lol so I guess it's also not so free everywhere in Dubai. The biggest difference in my opinion are the number of things to-do with your family in Doha. There's really not much and you quickly get bored which is why I go to Dubai more than once a year.I agree that Doha is like UAE 15-20 years back...the roads and construction everywhere is frustrating :|

I don't have boxes but wanted to let you know that a friend of mine went to the nearest supermarket and got boxes they use for moving their goods for her move. Most of them don't mind giving away their boxes. They have lots of them.

The only thing I disliked was that she wouldn't help me with my baby bag. I was carrying my baby in her cot and diaper bag and holding my ODD's hand. When I asked if she could help with an exhausted look lol she said they aren"kt allowed to take any personal belongings :| so what are our passports? :P

Whenever I tavel, with my girls alone ,my hubby books us that service on the way back. As soon as I leave the bus I find a lady carrying a paper with my last name written clearly. It would be very nice of you to do that for them. Yes, 200 would be only for the service.

Hi Violetsky! I can't recommend little academy enough. My daughter went there for 3 years before school and I don't have one complaint. Wish they had a primary school! Amazing staff and teachers. Kids are always busy doing fun activities :) Hope you have a smooth move to Doha. Good luck :)

Not sure if I'll be any help. We always have our daughter's birthdays at home. I've been invited to many birthdays at fast food restaurants like BK,Mac, fuddruckers,Dairy Queen etc. Also once been to a place called "My gym" and another to Jungle zone play area. All the others have parties at their compound pool or club house.

Hi, my daughter goes to NIS Lagoon. We didn't like the west bay campus at all. I think that is the main difference. The Lagoon one has all the facilities like a swimming pool, gym, outdoor field, auditorium etc. West Bay one doesn't. More like a big Villa. They also have an outdoor garden area where the kids grow flowers, carrots and so on. Somehow, I also liked the feel of the classrooms in Lagoon much more.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I don't have any specific questions, just wanted to hear from someone who is actually in the school. Its nice to know that someone is happy with the school. My main concern was spoken language in the school, my son doesn't speak any other languages apart from English. When we visit one of the schools, we were told that even though official language is English, since majority is arab-speaking kids, they tend to speak arabic. My little boy would find it very difficult and I am just worried that it would put him off school if he can't communicate with children. Thanks again.:-) No need to worry about that. They have a strict English only policy on campus which my daughter told me about one day. So although a lot of the kids speak Arabic, they are asked not to. I've been to the school a few times and I watch my girl talk toher friends in English. Please let me know if you have any more questions :)

Hi, my DD is in foundation year @ NIS Lagoon. Like you, we tried Doha College and other schools with a better reputation last year but with no luck. Honestly, I am happy with the school.I don't have any complaints, although they can be a little more organized at times. Ingeneral my daughter is always happy to go to school, she loves her teachers, and is always excited to tell me about her day.I might be a little more helpful if you have more specific questions :) edited by MunchkinMommy on 01/05/2013

For those who are still looking for spots in schools, the Supreme Education Council has an exhibition going on starting today and running through Saturday at the Exhibition Centre. All the schools were advised that the had to have a booth (although I have heard some have ignored SEC's "request".) Anyway... if you are still looking for a school, you may wish to check out the exhibition centre (near katara) to see what is out there. The event takes place from Wednesday the 24th to Saturday the 27th April. Timing from 10am-8pm except on Friday it's from 4-9pm. Hi Deb, any idea if this is also an opportunity for teachers to drop off their Cvs?
