The only city in Mauritius is Port Louis, the capital with around 150.000 people. It is very different to Dubai, life goes still smoother and chilling there.

Broken AC is definitely major in this heat! I've only ever had one LL here and we were responsible for maintenance so I've got no personal experience. I have read on here that if you are planning on renewing keep all your receipts and renew minus the costs incurred. thanks for ur comments. maybe best is to (already) get in touch with the rent committee?!

Is your LL definitely liable for the costs? Check your contract, it should be written in there. 1st: the problems are existing from the beginning on or we realized some days after we moved in 2nd: contract says major maintenance is LL's responsibility...and broken AC in summer is definitiv major, no? even if he says he is not resposible for every little thing (oh yes, we will change our bulbs alone :-))

They normally just cover themselves in case it takes longer than expected. It depends which company you are using but most still only charge the hourly rate so if it only takes an hour or two you will only pay for the time taken. It may be worth checking this with the company you have chosen. Steer clear of M Plus, they told me they had to change the AC Motors and whilst it was quick to change the motors the A/C is still not working properly 3 months later, they have been every week to try and fix it and still there are issues...... not cooling, over cooling, water coming through the ceiling, the list goes on! Good luck! welcome to the club

PEST CONTROL NEEDED: I know there have been some numbers shared for pest control in various posts. However, can anyone please share them again? Non chemical preferred, but if needed some strong effective spray/pesticide against camel spiders coming IN our house? For residents in JVT: did you face some problem? Quick feedback appreciated. Thanks.

where can I buy cushions for outdoor furniture set, for bank and chairs? Like the ones which are normally coming with the rattan sets? In Dragon Mart no chance to get them separate. Thanks. I got mine made in Dragon Mart around 2 months ago I have a 3 seater and 2 chairs. The shop was at the very end of Dragon Mart on the right but I cannot remember the name. They did me 10 in total. 5 seat and 5 backs If you can wait till tomorrow I have the name and number on my fridge. They were so much cheaper than Satwa ( Almost 50% cheaper) great :-) yes, sure can wait until tomorrow. did you let them custom made or they were ready?

I have recently moved to a JVT villa and need some advices on these houses especially the ACs. The ACs, mainly the ones upstairs in the bedrooms are making lots of noise not allowing us to get proper sleep and the whole system leaving a annoying humming when operating. Its like being in a wind tunnel :-( what is ur experience and is the above described normal? is there anything what can be done? can anyone recommend a good technician who can maybe do miracles and fix them somehow? thx

Great thanks - will have a look on FB page You really need to turn all the ghost ac off as this will help save on your DEWA bill dramatically. turn off section Y4, R4 and B4, this is the ghost unit. People say it makes a difference in DEWA bill. I think the AC, especially the one upstairs makes a lot of noise, does not allow us to get proper sleep. Anyone else facing same issue?

it is a pity for the cycling track as well as the whole landscape out there. Going there on the bikes or for a drink in Bab Al Shams is so far a nice trip out of town to be in the nature where you can relax. If there are building big streets etc. it will never be the same any more :-( Development is fine, however, it is a shame that people give away their beautiful nature for that...

"The Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) awarded a contract of al-Qudra Road Widening Project extending 24 km from the Arabian Ranches Interchange to Bab al-Shams, comprising three lanes in each direction. The project comprises the widening of al-Qudra Road to three lanes in each direction. Widening works will include the existing dual carriageway extending from al-Qudra Road up to the approaches of Jebel Ali – Lehbab Interchange, and the single carriageway bound to al-Marmoom comprising three lanes in each direction. The project also comprises the construction of a new bridge over Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road in addition to the existing bridge such that each of the two bridges will be of three lanes in each direction, and a dedicated cycling track will be maintained in the bridge and fully separated from the vehicular traffic. Tunnels will be constructed for the crossing of camels and horses on both sides of the road." Since when is there so much traffic? A highway into the desert? Is that really needed? It is a shame to loose the naturalness of the landscape out there. A piece of still local land is going to get destroyed... :-(

UAE National Day is and ALWAYS will be the 2nd December!!!! You CAN NOT move the date, it is the 2ND DECEMBER - they even named a street after it. So stick to the 2nd December as the day off, this year it will fall on Monday and be done with it. edited by pollydxb1 on 19/11/2013 AGREE!!!

Have been to Decathlon, but do not like their stuff, should be little more "upgraded"...some endurance riding equipement would be great.

AXA do it as part of their insurance but you pay extra Pop to Barsha, go through the testing it Go inside, join the ladies queue and voila. I only had to give them my ID card and PO Box and they had all my insurance details/residence visa on screen Easy peasy thanks girls! So, I first have to do the test and afterwards I have to enter the building and join the ladies queue? Are they open on Saturdays as well?
